Glazier (nee Lell), formally of Philadelphia, PA and Avalon, the last surviving member of the Greatest Generation in her family, passed quietly to her eternal reward on Saturday, March 30, 2002. Glazier, Sr., her brothers, Dr. William A. and Dominic Lell and her sister, Miss Marie Lell. Jean was born October 23, 1912, the youngest of four children of Italian immigrant parents. Her mother died when she was four. Her father kept the family together by working three jobs and her oldest brother and sister helped in raising their siblings. The family lived in the Frankford, Holmsburg, and finally, the Bustleton sections of Philadelphia. Jean attended Frankford High School and graduated from the Moore Institute of Art. In 1943 she married her husband and they had two sons. Returning to work in 1953 Jean went into the teaching profession working at private catholic girls schools, Immaculate Conception Academy and Ancillae Domini Academy, both of which are now closed. She then went into the Philadelphia Public School system as a Long Term substitute teacher. She was stationed at many junior and senior high schools but her last eight years were spent at Penn Treaty Junior High. She was actively involved in fund raising for Boy Scouts, Somerton Youth Org. and Somerton A.C. She retired in 1973.

Moving with her husband to Avalon, NJ in 1974 Jeannette embarked on her second career. She involved herself in every aspect of community life at the shore joining the Avalon Gardening Club, Senior Citizens Club, Bible Club and the Democratic Club. When her grandson was born with a heart problem she joined and worked tirelessly for the Upper Cape Chapter of Deborah Hospital serving for many years as chapter president. When Avalon changed to a councilmatic form of government, Jean ran for office. She ran four times and was elected to two consecutive terms at the young age of 72. After leaving office she was appointed Borough Recycling Coordinator and at the age of 79 she was appointed Senior Citizens Center Director and given the task of filling a new empty building with equipment, chairs, tables, lights, games and most importantly people. Through her efforts and those of all her friends, donations came flowing in. The center became a reality and in 1999 was renamed in her honor. Her work in and out of politics made her many friends including former Congressman William Hughes, Governor James Florio, the Mayors of Avalon and other shore communities along with many other prominent politicians. Jean finally quit working in 1996 but kept up her contacts until the effects of Parkinson's Disease and a broken hip severely limited her activities.
