Robley W. Adams
Robley W. Adams, 75, of Easton, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 in Easton Hospital.
He was a licensed funeral director for over 43 years and former owner of Adams Funeral Home at 226 Bushkill Street, Easton. His father, the late Charles F. Adams, originally established their family funeral home on North Fourth Street in 1915 and later moved to Spring Garden Street. After Charles Adams died in 1940, his wife, the former Doretta Wittenberg became Easton's first woman funeral director by virtue of a widow's license. She operated the funeral home with her two sons, Robley and David until her death in 1967. The family funeral home closed in 1993 after seventy-seven years of service.
Robley attended Easton Public Schools and graduated Easton High School. He then entered the United States Navy in 1943, where he was a Fireman First Class. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the World War Two Victory Medal.
In 1950 he graduated from the American Academy of Mortuary Science in New York in October and became a license funeral director in December of the same year.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church on Spring Garden St in Easton where he was also a past president of their men's club.
He was once a licensed pilot flying small planes from Braden's Airport in Forks Twp.
In 1977, Robley allowed his Victorian-era styled funeral home, which was the former home of the Bull family of the former Bush and Bull Department Store in Easton, to be used for the television movie of Dashiell Hammett's "The Dain Curse", which stared actor James Coburn.
He was appointed deputy coroner in Northampton County in April of 1962 and Chief Deputy Coroner in January 1964.
In 1975, Robley was named as Supervisor of the Bureau of Parking in Easton, a position he maintained until retiring in December of 1992. While he was supervisor, Robley was named as fund-raiser chairman for the new Peace Candle in Centre Square by then Mayor Henry J. Schultz. In 1996, Robley was the recipient of the Gretchen Wrenshall Community Caring Award from Mayor Thomas Goldsmith for his efforts and dedication to the construction of the new Peace Candle. In December of that same year, he had the honor of being the person to light the candle during the candle-lighting ceremony.
Robley was active in Easton politics and twice ran for the democratic nomination for Mayor. He was a member of the first Democratic Fund-Raising Dinner Committee in 1964 and again in 1965 when he also served as Publicity Chairman; a member of the Democratic Society of Northampton County; Chairman of the Easton Johnson-Humphrey Headquarters in 1964. He was also responsible for Democratic Registrations in the Second Ward in 1965.
He was a former member of the Easton Lions Club, where he was voted Outstanding Lion in the City of Easton in 1964. He was a former member of the Dallas Lodge 396, Free and Accepted Masons, Easton and the Brown and Lynch American Legion Post of Easton.
His wife is the former Katherine M. Jones.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a step-daughter, Stephanie L. Creazzo of Lower Nazareth Twp., a step-son, Louis M. D'Angelo of Danielsville; two nieces and one nephew. Two brothers, Charles and David died earlier.
Private cremation will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2001 in Trinity Episcopal Church, 234 Spring Garden St, Easton. Burial will follow in Easton cemetery , Seventh St., Easton. There will be no calling hours. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the funeral arrangements.

Marie Alercia
Marie Alercia, 75, of Phillipsburg, NJ, died Saturday, July 12, 1997 in Easton Hospital, Wilson Boro, PA.
She retired from the Northampton Pants Co. In 1970, after working for 20 years as a sewing machine operator.
Born March 5, 1922 in Phillipsburg, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Maria Sinopli Tolotta.
She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church, Phillipsburg, NJ, where she was active in the Over Fifties Club.
She was also a member of the Altar Society of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Easton, PA.
She was a member of the Warren County A.A.R.P. and the Phillipsburg Senior Center Bridge Club.
She was a past member of the Porter School P.T.A. in Easton.
She and her husband observed their 55th wedding anniversary February 14th.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Margaret Ann Horn of New Cumberland, PA; two sisters, Rose Ritz of Lopatcong Twp., NJ and Kay Volpe of Phillipsburg; one brother, Anthony of Cape Coral, Fla.; and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m. Tuesday from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Entombment will be in the Holy Apostle's Mausoleum in St. Philip and St. James cemetery , Greenwich Twp., NJ. Calling hours will be held 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Elizabeth B. Allison
Elizabeth B. Allison, 95, of Mansfield Twp., NJ, died Wednesday, December 12, 2001 in her home.
She was an elementary school teacher for the Knowlton Twp. Elementary School in Knowlton Twp., NJ from 1958 until her retirement in 1981.
Born December 11, 1906 in Rotterdam, Holland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maria Van dam Boerledge.
She earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from East Stroudsburg University and an M.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from Kean University in Union, NJ.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Blairstown, NJ.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Loring George and Henry E. Allison, Sr.
She is survived by two sons, David George of Sun City, Fla. and Henry E. Allison, Jr. of Bath, Pa.; a sister, Maria Overholt of Piqua, OH; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was also a foster mother for over thirty children. A daughter, Deina Makatura, a brother Peter and two sisters, Cora Anderson and Deina Mabray all died earlier.
Private cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation period. A memorial gathering will be scheduled at a later date. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the arrangements.

Joyce B. Amy
Joyce B. Amy, 70, of Phillipsburg, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Easton Hospital.
Joyce was an operator for the former Bell Telephone Company, Easton, for many years. She also worked as a school crossing guard in Phillipsburg for twenty years.
Born March 9, 1937 in Easton, she was a daughter of Helen M. Vought of Lopatcong Township and the late Fred W. Miller.
She graduated Phillipsburg High School in 1955.
Joyce and her husband, Richard E. Amy, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary March 30th.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Richard and his wife Stephanie of Sweet Valley, Pa.; a daughter, Sandra Burgio of Wilson Borough; a brother, Fred J. Miller and his wife Joann of Phillipsburg; a sisters, Linda Geisberger of Phillipsburg; three grandsons, David and Sean Burgio and Justin Amy and a granddaughter, Kelsey Amy.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Phillipsburg.

Carl Armbruster
Carl Armbruster, 77, of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997 in the Care Center of Brakeley Park, Lopatcong Twp.
He worked in the Heat Treat Department of the Rock-Drill Division of Ingersoll-Rand Co., Phillipsburg. He started working in January of 1940 as a welder and became a foreman in 1961. He served in that capacity until his retirement in March of 1980.
Born October 19, 1919 in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Russell and Abigail Hartley Armbruster.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg.
He was also a member of the United Steel workers Union, Local 5503, Phillipsburg.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He was a member of the Merrill Creek Sportsman's Association, of which he was a life member; the Greenwich Sportsman's Association, the National Rifle Association, the Order of the Flea's and was a past president of the Warren County Rod and Gun Club.
He had also served as a Democratic Committeeman during Gov. Robert Meyner's term of office, as well as serving in the Civilian Conservation Corp. in Oregon in 1938.
His wife, the former Anna E. Hagerty died April 19, 1990.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas C. and Jeffrey A., both at home; one daughter, Carla A. Matviak of Plainfield, NJ., two grandsons and a brother, Arthur of Phillipsburg. Two brothers, Nelson and Thomas both died earlier.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. A calling hour will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services in the funeral home. Private cremation will follow the services and the interment of the cremated remains will be in the Fairmount cemetery , Phillipsburg.

Thomas C. Armbruster
Thomas C. Armbruster, 55, of Easton, died Sunday, November 9, 2003 in Phillipsburg.
He was a security guard for Advance Associates in Easton.
Born January 31, 1948 in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Carl and Anna E. Hagerty Armbruster.
Tom enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was of the Lutheran faith and had attended St. John's Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg.
Survivors include a brother, Jeffrey A. of Phillipsburg; a sister, Carla Matviak and her husband Greg, residing on a sailboat in the West Indies and two nephews, Ivan and Alex Matviak.
Cremation was private. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22, in the Fairmount cemetery , Phillipsburg. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the arrangements.

Rose B. Nattress Arnold
Rose Beatrice Nattress Arnold, 103, of Mansfield Twp., formerly of Phillipsburg, died Thursday, November 3, 2005 in her home.
She formerly worked for Transogram Co., Easton, retiring in 1966.
Born April 19, 1902 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude Ewadinger Gier.
Her husband, Victor Arnold died January 30, 1973.
She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg and the Over-Fifties Club of the church. She was a former member of the St. Anthony's HEAD Golden Age Club, Easton, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Easton 358, the Grace Lutheran Church Friendly Club, Phillipsburg and St. Mary's Golden Age Club in Alpha.
She is survived by a son, Donald C. Nattress of Lopatcong Twp.; two grandchildren, Lorraine Ruggiero and her husband Dominic G. and David Nattress and his wife Barbara and two great-grandchildren, Marissa and Dominic D. Ruggiero; and a sister Elizabeth Reda of Phillipsburg. She was pre-deceased by brothers, Francis, Jack, J. Paul, Charles and Carmen sisters, Ann Boylan, Charlotte Manieri, Catherine Altenbach, and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette DeThomas Nattress.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. in the church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery , Greenwich Twp., NJ. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Sandra A. Ashley
Sandra A. Ashley, 58, of Phillipsburg, died March 7, 2004 in her home.
Born March 10, 1945 in New York City, N.Y., Sandra was a daughter of the late John B. and Anna L. Goins Ashley.
Sandra earned high honors and graduated from both the Long Island University and Columbia University.
Professionally, she worked to establish the first minority musician's resource guide while working at the New York State Office of Equal Opportunity. She also developed a nursing program for AIM students at Hunter College of the City University of New York. She also worked for several human services programs and volunteered at an adult rehabilitation center, adult learning center and helping her friends and family.
An advocate for human rights, Sandra was a founding member of the Black Social Workers Organization and was a member of CORE and the NAACP. These beliefs went beyond her life, and she taught her sister, nephews and nieces many important lessons in human rights and ethnic pride.
Sandra was a Christian and as a child, attended the First Reformed Church of Astoria, N.Y. Her faith was important to Sandra and she attended several churches through her life, including the Phillipsburg Alliance Church.
Survivors include a sister, Barbara J. Ashley of Rockaway Beach, N.Y., two nephews, two nieces, three grand-nephews, three grand-nieces, eight cousins and many friends and loved ones. A daughter died prematurely.
A service celebrating Sandra's life will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in Mt. Holiness Memorial Park, Butler, N.J. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of services Friday in the funeral home.

Virginia A. Auchenbach
Virginia A. "Anne" Auchenbach, 73, of Phillipsburg, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 in Warren Hospital.
She formerly worked for Ingersoll-Rand, Cameron Pump Division in the Nuclear Parts Department for seventeen years and for Warren Hospital as a unit secretary.
Born June 9, 1934 in Danville, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Lena Walton Harp.
She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church, Phillipsburg. She enjoyed bowling in the mixed league at Warren Lanes, crafts, gardening, cross word puzzles, reading suspense novels, collected Marie Osmond porcelain dolls, spending time in the Poconos with her late companion, Robert J. Marzuoli, being at the beach and being with her family. She also was a Yankees fan and loved watching CSI. She will also be remembered for being proud of her Irish heritage.
She is survived by two sons, Michael A. and his wife Mary of Palmer Twp and Robert D. or Forks Twp; two daughters, Sally Weaver of Phillipsburg and Chris Symington and her husband Larry of Gulfport, Mississippi; a brother, Wayne of Newport News, Virginia; a sister, Dawn Filek and her husband Hank of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Ann Harp of Southern Shore, North Carolina; ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. A brother Thomas and Anne's companion of twenty-eight years, Robert J. Marzuoli both died earlier.
Services will begin 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m. in the church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. John R. "Jack" Bachman, Sr.
John R. "Jack" Bachman, Sr., 66, of Phillipsburg, died Thursday, October 17, 1996 in Easton Hospital, Wilson Boro.
He was a former patrolman in Phillipsburg from 1960 to 1972. He then worked for the Garden State Water Company as a meter reader until 1995.
Born January 21, 1930 in Alpha, he was the son of the late Theodore Ross and Marie Alice Rossnagle Bachman.
He was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Philip and St. James Church, Phillipsburg.
He was a corporal with the 88th Military Police Company in the Army during the Korean conflict from 1948 until 1950. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars and the United Nations Medal.
He was a life member of the Bernardine-May American Legion Post #457, Phillipsburg; Order of the Fleas, Easton; He was an active fireman from 1956 to 1963, serving as Vice President in 1958, and was a Life and Exempt member of the Lincoln Engine Company #2, Phillipsburg. He was also a member of the Exempt Fireman's Association of Phillipsburg.
Survivors include two sons, John R., Jr. of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Timothy J. at home; one daughter, Lori A. Bachman-Simons of Phillipsburg; two sisters, Jean M. Kearns and Dolly Duffy, both of Phillipsburg. He is also survived by a companion, Allison Gruhler, with whom he lived. In addition to his children, he is survived by Allison's three sons, Robert J, of Kearny, NJ, Richard A. of Easton and Jerry F. Gruhler of Phillipsburg.
Funeral services will be held 10:15 a.m. Monday from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:45 a.m. in St. Philip and St. James Church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in St. Philip and St. James cemetery , Greenwich Twp. Calling hours will be 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Shirley L. Bachman
Shirley L. Bachman, 66, of Phillipsburg, NJ, died Saturday, November 11, 2000 in Easton Hospital, Wilson Boro, Pa., where she was admitted on Thursday.
Born November 24, 1933 in Easton, she was the daughter of the late Russell W. and Tillie Reese Walters.
She was a member of St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg, where she was also a member of the Over-Fifties Club.
She graduated Easton High School in 1951.
She was instrumental in organizing many bus trips from the Phillipsburg area with a group she called the "Happy Wanderers". She also enjoyed ceramics and was a member of the Crafters of Twelve Ceramics Club in Phillipsburg. She was a member of the AARP, Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Catholic Daughter of the Americas - Court Warren, and the Warren County Election Board.
She is survived by a son, Marine Sgt. Gunnery John R. Bachman, Jr. of Quantico, VA; a daughter, Lori Ann Boyington of Phillipsburg; a sister, Arlene Price of Phillipsburg; three brothers, C. Jack Walters of Plainfield Twp., Richard F. Walters and Raymond D. Walters, both of Easton and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m. Wednesday from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Philip and St. James Church, 426 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Rev. Guy Sylvester will be the celebrant of the Mass. Burial will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp. Calling hours will be held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
