He and Sallie have been married
59 years.
Mr. Arning's career included being Senior Vice President of Operations for the New York Stock Exchange, Executive Vice President for the brokerage firm of Tucker, Anthony & R. L. Day, and President and Chief Administrative Officer of USLife Corporation.

Together with Bill Maruchi and Henry Peddle, they assisted the hospital during a challenging period of its history; their positive influence manifested in everything from policy changes to creation of a day-care/early childhood center for employee's children. Mr. Arning served the hospital for nine years.
Later in his life, Mr. Arning was intermittently a patient at Burdette Tomlin and was fortunate to receive a continuity of care that is Burdette's high standard. The Arning family is grateful to each and every Burdette employee.
Always a man dedicated to his Episcopal faith, Mr. Arning had attended St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Stone Harbor, even when only vacationing in Avalon. After retiring to Avalon and becoming a full-time member, he served on the Vestry, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and as a stewardship advocate. Mr. Arning demonstrated stewardship at St. Mary's with both his time and resources. The Arning family wishes to acknowledge the parish of St. Mary's and Father John Sosnowski and his wife Cynthia, for their ongoing love and support of Mr. Arning and his family.
