Charles Nobuto Ono
Upper Deerfield Twp Resident
Charles Nobuto Ono, 81, of Upper Deerfield Township died Saturday evening March 22, 2003 at his home following a one year illness.
The husband of Frances F. (nee Shirakawabe) Ono, he was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and was the son of the late Kuranobu and Miyono Nakama Ohono.
He moved to Sacramento, CA with his family when he was a year and a half old and graduated from Elk Grove High School in Sacramento County.
He worked on his father’s strawberry farm and his uncle’s grape farm and after the outbreak of World War II lived in the Manzanar Internment Camp.
He moved to Seabrook in 1945.
Mr. Ono lived in Seabrook until 1969 when he moved to his current Upper Deerfield Township address.
Mr. Ono worked at Seabrook Farms from 1945 until retiring in 1982.
He was a forklift operator at the Cumberland Warehouse section of Seabrook Farms.
An active member of the Seabrook Buddhist Temple, he was a member of the Temple board.
In addition, he was a member of the Seabrook Chapter of the JACL.
He enjoyed the outdoors and especially liked to fish and work in his garden. He also enjoyed playing cards.
In addition to his wife of nearly fifty-eight years, he is survived by two daughters, Linda M. Ono, at home and Catherine J. Robinson and her husband Gary, of Carlisle, PA, two grandchildren, Cristen and David Robinson, one brother, Morito Ohono of Chicago, IL, two sisters, Toshiko Kobayashi and her husband Kazuo of Upper Deerfield Twp. and Peggie Wada and her husband Jack of Gardena, CA.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Michael Ohono of Quinton who he helped raise.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning March 27th at 11 o’clock at the Seabrook Buddhist Temple, Northville Road, Upper Deerfield Township.
The interment will be made at Laurel Lawn cemetery, Upper Deerfield Township, N.J.
Friends will be received at the Seabrook Buddhist Temple Thursday morning one hour prior to the service.

Joseph Clark Loper
Teacher
Joseph Clark Loper, 67, of Upper Deerfield Township and a longtime resident of Hopewell Township died Friday afternoon March 28, 2003 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden where he had been a patient for four days.
The husband of Carol Harris Loper, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Chester G. and Dorothy McAllister Loper.
Mr. Loper was a resident of Hopewell Township for most of his life and after retiring lived in Virginia for thirteen years before returning to the area a year ago.
He was a graduate of Bridgeton High School with the Class of 1953 and received a degree in teaching and business from Salem College in Salem, West Virginia in 1957.
Mr. Loper later received his master’s degree in education from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University).
Prior to his retirement in 1990 he taught in the Bridgeton School System at the Bridgeton Middle School as a basic skills teacher.
During his teaching career Mr. Loper also taught in Alloway, Greenwich and Deerfield.
In both the Greenwich and Alloway school systems he had been a teaching principal.
He held memberships in the Bridgeton Education Association, the New Jersey Education Association and the National Education Association.
Raised as a member of the Woodruff United Methodist Church, Mr. Loper loved music and was a member of several choral groups including the Cumbrian Singers at Woodruff Methodist Church. As a youngster he was active the 4-H program in Cumberland County.
Mr. Loper also served as a Boy Scout Leader with the troop sponsored by Woodruff Church.
Most recently he was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Shiloh
In addition to his wife of nearly forty-three years, he is survived by three daughters, Ruth C. Oyler and her husband Russell of Fairton, Elizabeth “Betsy” L. O’Briant and her husband William of Pittsgrove and Dori A. Bryant and her husband Patrick of Vineland and one son, Steven J. Loper and his wife Regina of Marlton. He was “Grandpa” to six grandchildren, Joshua and Abigail O’Briant, Melissa Loper, Joseph Oyler and Nicole and Zachary Bryant. Additional survivors include one sister, Doris J. Loper of Woodruff, one brother, James R. Loper and his wife Pat of Elko, Nevada and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant sister, Mary Elizabeth Loper.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday afternoon April 1st at 2 o’clock at the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Shiloh, East Avenue, Shiloh.
Pastor Donald Chroniger will officiate.
The interment of the cremated remains will be made in the church cemetery following the memorial service.
Friends will be received at the church Tuesday afternoon from 12 Noon until 2.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Arthritis Foundation of New Jersey, 9 Tanner Road, Haddonfield, N.J. 08033.

Everett E. Powell Jr.
Bridgeton Resident
Everett E. Powell Jr., 68, of Bridgeton died Sunday morning March 30, 2003 at S.J. Hospital – Bridgeton following a brief illness.
He had been admitted to the hospital the day before his death.
Mr. Powell was the husband of the late Phyllis E. (nee Shrewsbury) Powell, who died in 1994, and was the son of Mary E. (nee Juliano) Powell of Bridgeton and the late Everett E. Powell Sr.
A lifelong Bridgeton resident, he had been a resident of Mt. Vernon Street all his life.
He was the owner of Powell’s Package Store on North Laurel Street in Bridgeton for several years.
The family business was established in 1936 and he operated the store until retiring in 1987.
During World War II, Mr. Powell served as a “messenger boy” for the local Air Raid Warden.
He was a member of the Deerfield Township (formerly Bridgeton) Elks Lodge #733, the Millville Loyal Order of Moose and the former Bridgeton Loyal Order of Moose Lodge.
In addition, he was a member of the Bridgeton Elks.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by four daughters, Robin L. Powell, Cheryl A. Powell, Mary J. Powell and Venessa S. Powell all of Bridgeton, two sons, Everett “Skip” Powell III and Daniel W.F. Powell both of Bridgeton, two grandchildren, Robert P. Sooy Jr. and Amanda Sooy both of Bridgeton and two sisters, Mary J. Day and Anna C. Durham also both of Bridgeton.
Private funeral services will be held for members of the family at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.
The interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Powell’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 1400 W. Landis Avenue, Vineland, N.J. 08360.
Samuel Fisher
Former Bridgeton Resident
Samuel Fisher, 95, of Sarasota, Florida and formerly of Bridgeton died Monday afternoon July 14, 2003 at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
He had been in declining health.
Mr. Fisher was the husband of the late Gertrude (nee Cotler) Fisher and was the son of the late Max and Pearl Lipitz Fisher.
He was a longtime resident of Atlantic Street in Bridgeton and later lived at the Indian Run Apartments before relocating to Florida nearly ten years ago.
For many years he was employed as a salesman at the former Fisher’s Furniture Store in Bridgeton.
He last worked at London Liquors in Bridgeton.
He was a member of Congregation Beth Abraham in Bridgeton for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald M. Fisher, MD of Sarasota, FL and Millard J. Fisher, PhD of Stone Mountain, GA, three grandchildren, Stephen Fisher, Deborah Rubin and Julie Feldt and four great grandchildren, Rachel Rubin, Alissa Rubin, Max Fisher and Benjamin Fisher.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Nathan Fisher and two sisters, Bess Kotok and Ida Gallner.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon July 17th at 2:30 at Beth Abraham Memorial Park, Vineland Avenue in Deerfield Township.
Student Rabbi Steven Kirschner of Congregation Beth Abraham will officiate.
The interment will follow the services.
