Steven A. Middleton lost his valiant fight with cancer on December 10, 2009, but he never lost his zest for life.
Since being diagnosed almost 5 years ago he traveled to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Cincinnati, Orlando, Denver, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, and Baltimore to exhibit his collections of Ferris Wheel and other medals winning first place awards at FUN, Central States, and the National Convention of the ANA.
He also liked traveling for fun and to visit grandkids and other relatives with his wife Carol and their peke-a-poo Zena who acted as his nurse. He especially loved camping out in Stokes State Forest.
Before his early retirement, Steven taught chemistry and physics, first at his alma mater Orange High School and later at Mount Olive. He was a firm believer that chemistry is magic and was known for wearing a magician's cape while performing experiments. He was named teacher of the year and won awards for his air-pollution research as well.
Steven is survived by his wife Carol of Denville, and mother Mary of South Orange as well as son Dwayne and his wife Sharon of Newark, son-in-law Joseph Hernandez and wife Monique of Orlando, grandchildren Kallel, Diani, Zariah, and Nasir. He was predeceased by his daughter Andrea and brothers Philip and John. He is also survived by his brother Larry of Landing, his wife Mary and nephew Lawrence and dear cousins Lynn and John Zisa of West Caldwell. He is also greatly missed by Zena his faithful companion.
Steven requested that friends and family gather at Rock Ridge Lake Community Clubhouse in January at a date to be announced for a celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers he requests donations to the ANA Summer Seminar scholarship fund at ANA, 818 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903-3279 or to your favorite charity in his name.
