Clarence F. Zimmerman
Cedarville Resident
Clarence F. Zimmerman, 85, of Cedarville and formerly of Bridgeton died Thursday morning November 21, 2002 at J.F. Kennedy Hospital in Washington Township. He had been in declining health and hospitalized for the last seven weeks.
Mr. Zimmerman was a lifelong resident of Cumberland County. He was born in Vineland and lived in Bridgeton for many years before relocating to Cedarville following the death of his wife, Agnes L. (nee Riley) Zimmerman in 1989. He was the son of the late Clarence F. Sr. and Rebecca Campbell Zimmerman.
He was well known because of his employment with Lance Crackers. As a driver and salesman he serviced many area stores until retiring in 1979. Prior to his work with Lance, he was a salesman and driver for Bond Bread.
Mr. Zimmerman was a US Navy veteran of World War II, having seen active duty in the Philippines.
He attended St. John’s First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bridgeton and enjoyed camping and golfing as hobbies.
He is survived by one daughter, Marsha F. Zimmerman of Cedarville and was predeceased by an infant son, Dennis Zimmerman, who died exactly sixty-one years before his father, and one sister, Mildred.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Zimmerman Saturday December 7th at 10 A.M. at St. John’s First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak and Giles Streets, Bridgeton.
Pastor Dale R. Johnston will officiate.
The interment of the cremated remains will take place privately at Greenwood Memorial Park in Millville.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. John’s First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak and Giles Sts., Bridgeton, N.J. 08302.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, Bridgeton, N.J.
Franklin A. Craddock
Retired Salesman
Franklin A. Craddock, 97, of Altoona, PA and formerly of Bridgeton died Friday November 22, 2002 at the Bon Secour Hospital in Altoona following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Craddock was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Charles and Ida May Beckett Craddock. He had been a Bridgeton area resident for several years before relocating to Altoona. He lived on 12th Street in Altoona for over twenty-five years before entering the Valley View Nursing Home in Altoona, where he had been a resident for over ten years.
He was employed as a salesman for the Egan Heating Company in Altoona before retiring in 1967. Prior to that he worked for the Holland Furnace Company for twelve years selling contracts to clean furnaces.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include five nieces, Margaret Mossman and Oleta Spear, both of Upper Deerfield Twp., Diane Reed of Vineland, Ethel Scholl of Newfield and Alice Hanna of Upper Pittsgrove Twp. and one nephew, Leon Craddock Jr. of Millville. He was predeceased by four brothers, William, Leon, John and Charles Craddock and two sisters, Flora Murray and Elizabeth Brown.
Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon November 26th at 3 o’clock at Laurel Lawn cemetery, Old Deerfield Pike in Upper Deerfield Township.
The interment will follow the services.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.
Georgeann Keufer Ayars

Georgeann Keufer Ayars (nee Duer), 84, of Bridgeton died unexpectedly Thursday morning November 21, 2002 at S.J. Hospital – Bridgeton following a brief illness.
The wife of the late Benjamin S. Ayars, who died in 1995, she was born in National Park and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie Strang Duer. A Gloucester County resident for many years, she lived in Blackwood and Westville before moving to Bridgeton sixteen years ago.
Mrs. Ayars was employed as a secretary at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury before her retirement. In her younger years she worked for Dunn and Bradstreet in Philadelphia.
She is survived by one son, William J. “Tiny” Keufer and his wife Betty Jean of New Gretna and three step children, Angela Ayars of Cherry Hill, Merle Gifford of Bridgeton and Michael Ayars of New Brunswick. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis R. Keufer in 1992 and her first husband, William B. Keufer in 1972.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning November 25th at 11 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.
Rev. Dr. Edward E. Martin, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Bridgeton will officiate.
The interment will be made at Overlook cemetery, Bridgeton, N.J.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday morning one hour prior to the services.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Mrs. Ayars’ memory to either the church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Ruth T. Cumming
Homemaker
Ruth T. Cumming (nee Temple), 80, of Fairton and formerly of N. Ft. Meyers, Florida died Saturday afternoon November 30, 2002 at S.J. Hospital - Bridgeton. She had recently moved to the area to be near her family.
The wife of the late William Cumming, who died in 1990, she was born in Jersey City and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Trucksess Temple. Mrs. Cumming lived in North Fort Meyers, Florida for twelve years and prior to that in Manahawkin for seventeen years.
She was a homemaker and she enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce M. Reiner of Greenwich and Lynne D. Colletti of Fairton, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two brothers, Robert F. Temple of Barnegat and Joseph Temple of Princeton. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Joseph Colletti in 1988 and a grandson, Michael Scott Trembly in 1997.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday morning December 3rd at 10 o'clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.
Pastor Woodson Moore of the Fairton Christian Center will officiate.
The interment will be made at the convenience of the family at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
Evelyn Jarrett Smith
Millville Resident Evelyn Jarrett Smith, 92, of Millville and formerly of Vineland and Bridgeton died Saturday afternoon November 30, 2002 at Millville Center - Genesis Elder Care in Millville where she had been a resident for the last five days.
Predeceased by her husband of seventy-one years, Francis G. Smith, who died in November of 2001, she was the daughter of the late Spencer and Elizabeth McCleary Jarrett. Mrs. Smith was a Vineland resident for thirty-seven years before moving to the Holly Commons section of Genesis a year ago. Prior to living in Vineland, she and her late husband were longtime residents of Bridgeton.
She served as the vice president of Smith and Richards Lumber Company in Bridgeton for several years until retiring in December of 2000.
Born and raised in Camden, Mrs. Smith attended the Camden Commercial College where she met her husband.
An active member of the Bridgeton community for most of her life, she was a seventy-two year member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
During the years, she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Wesley Choir and the Melody Chorus. She was also a member and leader of Circle 6 at the church and the W.C.T.U.
Mrs. Smith also held memberships in the Seven Oaks, Bridgeton Civic Club and the Matinee Musical. She was a past president of the Irving Avenue PTA and was a former member of the Cumberland Chapter - Order of the Eastern Star.
She loved to entertain and was well known for her gracious hospitality. Her family was most important to her and to them she was most dedicated. She also spent time visiting the sick.
Survivors include two sons, George D. Smith and his wife Angel of Upper Deerfield Township and Kenneth F. Smith and his wife Sue of Michigan and Vero Beach, FL, six grandchildren, Christina DeVitt, Douglas Smith, Donna Bosshard, Kenneth F. Smith Jr., David Smith and Kyle Chase and eleven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother Edwin Jarrett.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning December 4th at 11 o'clock at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 424 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton.
The church's pastor, Rev. Kevin G. Davis will officiate.
The interment will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
Friends will be received at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Wednesday morning one hour prior to the services.
