Gardina Wyckoff Armstrong Lipman, age 90, died peacefully on Friday, April 3 in Annapolis, MD where she had lived since 1998. Born in Keyport, she was a resident of New Brunswick before moving to Maryland.
Daughter of the late Gardina Wyckoff Hoagland and Lloyd Francis Armstrong and wife of the late Edward Voorhees Lipman; she is survived by a daughter, Gardina Wyckoff Mawhinney and husband Robert of Edgewater, MD; two sons, Jeffrey A. Lipman and wife Judith L. of New Egypt, NJ and Edward V. Lipman, Jr. and wife Anita of Farmingdale, NJ; a sister, Barbara Armstrong Musser of Prescott, AZ; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).

Geraldine R. "Gerri" Mercer

Geraldine R. Mercer, “Gerri” and “Meme”, age 85, of Jacobstown passed from this life to her heavenly home Tuesday, March 31 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly, surrounded by her family.
Born in Hutchinson, KS, she was a long time area resident. Gerri had retired from the Federal Civil Service, Personnel Department at Ft. Dix in 1984 and then worked as the Housing Inspector’s secretary for North Hanover Township until 1995. She was a Veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. Gerri was a member of the Shadyrest Bible Church in Chesterfield, member and past-president of North Hanover Twp. Senior Citizens, a member of the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt and past member of the Jacobstown Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Gerri is survived by her children and their spouses; Sheila and Gordon Graybeal of Vinton, VA, Nancy and Richard Peoples of Jacobstown with whom she resided and James and Marta Mercer of Richmond, VA; her grandchildren, Robert and Emily Mercer of Richmond, VA, Michael Mercer of Baltimore, MD, Sean Peoples of Washington, DC and Cara Peoples of Belleville, NJ who were blessed to have “Meme” active in their daily lives, and she had one great granddaughter, Libby Mercer. Gerri is also survived by her constant companion Benji.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 5 at 8: 00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Calling hours will be on Sunday evening from 6: 00 to 8: 00 PM at the funeral home. Interment services will be held on Monday, April 6 at 10: 30 AM at the Chapel of the BGWCD in Arneytown.

Marliese D. Fredlund

Marliese D. Fredlund, age 71, of Jacobstown died Monday, March 30 at RWJ University Hospital in Hamilton. Born in Germany, she was a resident of Jacobstown since 1969 and previously of Louisville, KY.
Marliese was retired from the State of NJ, Department of Labor, Workers Compensation Division in Trenton. She served for 25 years on the North Hanover Township Recreation Committee. She enjoyed Bingo and trips to Atlantic City, but most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Daughter of the late James K. and Lore Dalton and sister of the late Michael and Dieter Dalton, Marliese is survived by a son, Michael Fredlund and wife Terri of Littleton, CO; four daughters, Monica Fredlund-Goodnow and partner Paula Grant of Florence, Michele Fredlund of Jacobstown, Margaret Nixon and husband Chris of Jacobstown and Mona Fredlund and fiancé Ron Miller of Waterford; her longtime partner, Stan Getavesky of Chesterfield; a brother William Dalton and wife Diane of Panama City, FL; a sister-in-law, Helga Dalton of Mansfield Twp.; 13 grandchildren; a great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 1: 00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Calling hours are Saturday from 11: 00 AM to 1: 00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

Martin Paone, Jr.

Martin Paone, Jr., age 60, of Cookstown died Sunday, March 22 at his residence. Born in Perth Amboy, he lived in South Brunswick before moving to Cookstown ten years ago.
Martin had worked as a plumber for Roto-Rooter in North Brunswick. He was a member of Rolling Thunder NJ Chapter 2 in Forked River, he enjoyed farming, his animals and hunting.
Son of the late Martin and Gloria (Maul) Paone, Sr.; he is survived by his wife, Heidi (nee Renk) Paone; his three children, Martin A. Paone and wife Sherry of Syracuse, NY, Cindy Pawlyzyn and husband Nicolas of Cookstown and Craig Adams of Asbury Park; three grandchildren, Markus and Karlee Paone and Nicolas Pawlyzyn, Jr.; six brothers, Anthony Paone of Northampton, PA, Victor Paone of North Carolina, Frank Paone of Bangor, PA, Greg Rand of Pennsylvania, Mark Pane of Norwich, NY and Alan Paone of Mystic Island, NJ; two sisters, Jean Maul of St. Petersburg, FL and Anna Grimes of Parkertown, NJ and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Martin will be held on Thursday, March 26 at 3: 00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Calling hours will be on Thursday from 1: 00 to 3: 00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

Herbert L. "Buddy" Gilbert

Herbert L. “Bucky” Gilbert, age 77, of Maysville, NC died Friday, March 20 at Palm Bay Hospital in Palm Bay, FL. Born in Cambria County, PA he had been a longtime Jacobstown area resident before moving to North Carolina 18 months ago.
Bucky was a retired carpenter and an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a former member of the American Legion Post in Hightstown and the Sykesville Presbyterian Church.
Husband of the late Maureen P. Gilbert; he is survived by four sons, Brian Gilbert and wife Judy of Winter Haven, FL, Kenneth Gilbert of New Egypt, Bruce Gilbert of Cookstown and William Gilbert of Maysville, NC; a daughter, Patricia Hilliard and husband Buddy of Chiefland, FL; a brother, Charles Gilbert of New Jersey; a sister, Dorothy Weaver of Burlington; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 27 at 11: 00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Melvin R. "Bud" Ream

Melvin R. “Bud” Ream, age 79, of Cookstown died Thursday, March 19 at Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Holly. Born in Allentown, PA he had been an area resident since 1968.
Bud enlisted in the US Army Air Corp in 1948, serving in Europe during the Berlin Air Lift and the South Pacific during his early Air Force career. After numerous combat and peacetime deployments he retired with 28 years of service. During his career he received the following honors, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Oak Leaf, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army of Occupation Medal with Berlin Air Lift Device, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the NCO Academy Graduate Ribbon.
Bud was also a Past Troop Commissioner for Boy Scout Troop 112 and a member of the Burlington County Order of the Arrow. He was a member of the North Hanover Senior Citizens and the American Legion Post #455 in New Egypt. He was a Life Member of the Cookstown Vol. Fire Co., holding positions of Past Chief Engineer and Past Vice President of the fire company. He was also a Life Member of the NJ Fireman’s Relief Association. Bud was also retired from Institute For Defense Analysis in Princeton as a Captain in their Security Services.
Husband of the late Dolores J. Ream and brother of the late Estelle Price, he is survived by two sons, Michael Ream (JoAnne) of Cookstown and David Page (Phyllis) of North Hanover Twp.; a daughter, Donna Pianoforte of Newtown, PA; a brother, Robert G. Ream of Florida; five grandchildren, Heather, Nicole, Ryan, Kayla and April and a great grandchild, Isla.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25 at 11: 00 AM at the Chapel of the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road in Wrightstown with burial to follow with military honors. Calling hours will be on Tuesday evening March 24 from 7: 00 to 9: 00 PM and again on Wednesday morning from 9: 30 to 10: 30 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).

Raymond R. Helsel

Raymond R. Helsel, age 85, of Cream Ridge died Monday, March 16 at Bartley Health Care in Jackson. Born in Morrisville, PA he was a resident if Cream Ridge for the past 17 years and formerly of Yardville, Jackson and Inverness, FL.
Ray was a retired Auditor/Administrator for the State on New Jersey in the Division of Motor Vehicles and the Office of the Attorney General. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. Ray was a graduate of Trenton High School Class of 1942 and a graduate of Rider University. He was a member of the Yardville Presbyterian Church, the VFW Post 6590 in Cookstown, the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt, the Jensens Community Club in Cream Ridge and a former member of the New Egypt Chapter of Deborah.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, Raymond L. and Marie Helsel, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Helsel and a brother-in-law, Henry Szczepanski. He is survived by his wife, Irene (nee Szczepanski) Helsel; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond L. and Cheryl Helsel of Bordentown; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Andrew Dudich of Yardville; two grandchildren, Andrew M. Dudich II and Jared R. Dudich both of Yardville; a brother, Robert Helsel of Surf City, NJ; a brother-in-law, Kazmierz Szczepanski and wife Amelda of Brunswick, ME; a sister-in-law, Mary Szczepanski of Hamilton Twp. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23 at 10: 30 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with Rev. John Milne, officiating. Burial will follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Sunday evening March 22 from 6: 00 to 8: 00 PM at the funeral home with American Legion services at 7: 00 PM.

Peter F. Yarus

Peter Yarus, Command Sergeant Major of the US Army retired, age 83 of Orlando, Florida died on Thanksgiving Day Nov 26, 2009. Born in Somerville, NJ on Aug 12, 1926 Peter was a WWII , Korean War, and Vietnam War Veteran. Peter was a proud veteran who served his country in a long military career starting with his enlistment in the US Navy in 1943 as a young man then transitioning in 1946 to the Army where he served the US Army for over 33 years. His service to his country included combat duties and service in Samarn, Philippines, Korea (of Scarwarf), Eleuthera British West Indies, Greenland, Germany and multiple tours in Vietnam including hospitalization in Saigon before retiring from Oakland, CA. He was awarded numerous decorations including the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philipine Liberation Medal, Victory Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Professional Engineer Corp Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct and Service Medal 3rd Clasp and the Carbine Sharpshooter Medal. During his service time he particularly enjoyed his active participation in post activities and as a member of the Board of Governors of the Rod and Gun Club in Kaiserslautern German. After his military career he continued service to the Army as a civilian engineer at Fort Dix, NJ where he directed the restoration of the post training rifle and artillery ranges and was repeated recognized by the Dept of the Army Rifle Marksmanship and Field Artillery Committee for service, professionalism and expertise.
He was a long time resident of Browns Mills, NJ where he resided with his late wife, Helen Mary Yarus. Throughout his life Peter was an avid carpenter, outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman most often enjoying these times with his son, Donald. He was a member of the American Legion and the Handyman Club of America.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Mary Yarus of Sterling, Mass. He is survived by his two sons Richard A. Yarus of New Windsor, NY and Donald P. Yarus of Southampton, NJ and his daughter Donna G. Yarus of Orlando, FL along with his sister Olga Kane of Somerville, NJ and nephew John Watkins of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was preceded in death by his siblings, John, Steve, Catherine, Paul, Helen, Anne, Francis and Josephine and his parents Joseph and Mary Yarus.
The family would like to thank the staff and friends of Davita Dialysis Hunters Creek and St. Cloud FL for the kindness and care shown to Peter.
During his time of illness a personal note from Ret. LtCol Oliver North served as a credo, "CSM Peter Yarus, Soldier On!" He continues to do so in our hearts.
