BELL, JR., ALEX "Al", 62 - of Cape May Court House, died peacefully at home after a two year battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. He was born in Summit to the late Alexander L. and Edith (Molitor) Bell, Sr. and moved here in 1985 from Cranford. He was a Coast Guard Veteran of the Vietnam War. He previously was the owner of La Grandes Lawn Mower and Landscaping in Westfield. After moving to this area, he was the owner/operator of Alex Bell Jr. Landscaping. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Cape May County Party and Charter Boat Association. His family and landscaping were the center of his life.
Al is survived by his wife of 20 years, Martie; his children, Doug Bell of Roselle Park, Alex Bell III and his wife, Jeaneen of Westfield, Sheri Bell-Richelo of Cranford, Meaghan Bell, Kaitlin Bell, and Khrystine Bell, all at home; his sister, Edith Bell-Brown of VT; his granddaughters, Cindy, Courtney, Brittany, Amber, Sarah, and Madison; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in Cold Spring Presbyterian cemetery. LOMBARDO, SR., PETER J., 77 - of Woodbine, died on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. Born in Camden to the late Daniel and Angelina (Pescheta) Lombardo, he was a lifetime resident of this area. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of St. Casimir's R.C. Church in Woodbine, the VFW where he was past Post Commander, the American Legion, and the NRA.
Mr. Lombardo is survived by his wife, Margaret K. Lombardo; his son, Peter J. Lombardo, Jr., and his wife, Melody of South Seaville; his daughter, Kathy Zenyuk and her husband, Stephen of Woodbine; his son in law, Mebbie Hearon of Woodbine; his brother, Ed Lombardo of Danbury, CT; his sister, Claudette Liberto of Vineland; his five grandchildren, Jason Hearon and his wife, Courtney, Jeremy Hearon, Christy Lombardo, Daniel Lombardo, and Mary Beth Zenyuk; and his three great grandchildren, Samantha Lombardo, Orren Stewart, and Ryan Hearon. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Rene' Hearon and his brother, Daniel Pat Lombardo.
Funeral Liturgy will be said on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church, 304 Clay Street, Woodbine, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Casimir's cemetery, Woodbine. HYDE, MARION C., 84 - of Somers Point died Saturday after a lengthy illness. Marion was an area resident for over 75 years and was born in Philadelphia, PA. Mrs. Hyde attended the Somers Point Elementary Schools and graduated Ocean City High School. She was a Sunday School teacher in the Baptist Church, which now houses the Somers Point Historical Society. Long time residents of Somers Point remember Marion and her husband, Ray, as the owners and operators of the Soda Pop Caf‚ and Hyde's Pier. Predeceased by her husband Raymond S. Hyde. Survived by her daughter, Mary A. Rydzewski and son-in-law Matthew Rydzewski; two grandchildren, Matthew Rydzewski Ill and Michelle and her husband Devlin Morrison; and one great granddaughter Vanessa Hyde Morrison. Our dearest loving Nanna will live in our hearts forever. Services will be held Tuesday 2:00pm at the Middleton Stroble and Zale Funeral Home 304 Shore Road, Somers Point. ROMEO, KATHLEEN A., 57 - of Millville, died Sunday, March 13, 2005 at Elmer Community Hospital after an extended illness.
Born in Newark, she was a Vineland and Millville resident for most of her life and was a graduate of Vineland High School, Class of 1965. She also attended the University of Pennsylvania Nursing School.
Kathleen was employed by Newcomb Hospital and Rainbow Convalescent Center as a LPN. Prior to, she worked for the Prudential Insurance Co. in Millville in the Medical Department. She was an avid breeder of dogs and had many show dogs in various competitions.
She is predeceased by her mother and father, Thomas and Elizabeth Hall.
Survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Benjamin (Butch) Romeo of Millville; two sons, Thomas Romeo and wife Patricia of Harrisburg, PA, Peter Romeo and Melissa Luisi of Vineland; special friend, Gladys Curcio; many more friends and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11am at the DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 1019 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. Burial will follow in Siloam cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday morning from 9am to 11am at the funeral home.
FOGG, MARTHA J. 58 - of Villas, and formerly of Cape May, died suddenly Saturday in Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House.
Mrs. Fogg was born in Ocean City, and grew up in Millville. She had been a Cape May area resident for 36 years.
Upon graduation from High School, she attended the Hartt School of Music and the New England College of Conservancy Music in Connecticut, and the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
She was a longtime member of the Cape May United Methodist Church, where she served as their Choir Director for over 25 years. She had also served as Choir Director at the Seaville Methodist Church during the 1990's. She would help coordinate music programs in several area churches, sang with many other church choirs, and would fill in as an organist as well.
She had worked several years as a manager for Ranch Hope for Boys, in the Woodstown area. She was a former member of the Sweet Adelines. She was a former Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 85, in Cape May.
Mrs. Fogg was pre-deceased by husbands Arthur "Bud" Cohen, and Albert "Sonny" Fogg, Jr. Martha is survived by: three sons, Timothy Cohen, of Canaan, NH, Arthur Cohen III, of North Cape May, James E. Cohen, of Villas, 1 brother, John Breslin, of Millville and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12 noon in the Cape May United Methodist Church, 635 Washington St., Cape May. Relatives and friends may call at the Church Wednesday from 11 AM to 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Cold Spring cemetery, Lower Township.
As music was an important part of Martha's life, the family ask that any memorial donations be made to the music program at the First United Methodist Church of Cape May.
BARTHOLOMEW, WILLIAM S. "Sarge", 79 - of Egg Harbor Township passed away peacefully Saturday morning April 2, 2005 in the Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point.
Born in Wyoming, PA, he was formerly of Northfield and he had owned and operated the Northfield Esso for many years. A proud Marine he served his country during World War II. His tours of duty included Guadalcanal, Guam and Iceland, during which he received a purple heart.
Bill was a member of the Nor-Lin Lions Club, Seashore Gasoline Dealers and a vestry member of the Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Pleasantville. His legacy lives on through his favorite hobby, woodworking, crafting many items and furniture that were sold in the area.
He was predeceased by his parents Evangeline and Arthur Fortuna and William Bartholomew; a sister Carol and a brother Richard.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife Lois (Leopardi) Bartholomew; daughters Bonnie and her husband Paul Karvois of Voorhees; Betsy and her husband Stephen Baltera of Absecon, Maria Bartholomew of Egg Harbor Township; a son William of Atlanta, GA; grandsons, Michael and Marc Castellano; granddaughters, Brittney Smith and Kristie Bartholomew; great grandsons, Travis and Aaron. He will also be missed by his "little sweetheart", Taffy.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life to be held on Tuesday April 5, 2005 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial of cremains will follow at the Atlantic County Veterans cemetery in Estell Manor with military honors.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Northfield or Egg Harbor Township Rescue Squads.
DiLACQUA, SR., JOHN THOMAS 87- of Bradenton, FL, passed away on March 30, 2005 at the Lakewood Ranch Hospital. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was a resident of Brigantine before moving to Bradenton, FL 6 months ago. John was retired from the Customer Service Dept. at the Philadelphia Gas Company. He loved to play Bocce and Billiards. John is predeceased by his daughter, Janet Green who passed away on January 7, 2005. He will be sadly missed by his son, John T. Di Lacqua Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, four grandchildren, John, Michael, Susan and Andrew. ASTLE, W. CARLL, 91 - of Vineland, passed away on Saturday evening in the Lincoln Specialty Care Center, Vineland. Mr. Astle was born and raised in Norma and was a lifelong Vineland City resident. He was the son of the late Wm. J. and Bessie F. Carll Astle.
Before retiring, Mr. Astle was employed in the Glass Industry working at Owens-Illinois Kimble Glass Co., Kontes Glass Co. and H.S. Martin Glass Co. He was a member of the Single Parents Association, Somers Point. He enjoyed hunting and dancing.
Carll is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Irene Astle, CA, Michael and Norma Miller, Vineland; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were conducted by the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Rd., Vineland with burial in the Chestnut Grove cemetery, Elmer. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3 Eves Dr. Suite 310, Marlton, NJ 08053.
HAMILTON, EVELYN T., (nee THOMPSON), 92 - of Absecon, formerly of Atlantic City died Saturday, April 2, 2005 in Absecon Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Chester, Pa. and lived most of her life in Atlantic City until coming to Absecon 15 years ago. She worked as a clerk for the Atlantic City Loan Co. for many years. She was survived by many loving and caring dear friends, and special friends Dorothy Kreschuk and Joan Rishel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon, with burial to follow in Laurel Memorial park cemetery. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 10:00 until11:00 a.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Absecon Manor N.H. Activity Department or to the charity of ones choice.
McHUGH, JR, EDWARD J., "Butch" 71 - of Absecon, passed away on March 31, 2005. Born in Philadelphia, he has been a local resident since 1983. He graduated from South Catholic High School in 1952, and he served with the U.S. Army Rangers from 1956 to 1958. He worked for the United News Company for over 30 years, rising all the way to the position of Vice-President in charge of circulation. He later spent 10 years working in security for Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. He was a longtime volunteer for the Boy Scouts and enjoyed playing with the Broomall String Band. Mr. McHugh was President of both the Holy Name Society and the Bowling league for St. Stanislaus Church in Philadelphia.
Mr. McHugh is survived by his beloved mother, Josephine McHugh; devoted children, Brandon, Dante, Christian, Brittany, Shannon, Glenn, Gary, Rachel, Jessica, Peter, Kristen, Sean, Kevin, Kyle and Kasey. Family and friends may call for visitation at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 7th at Praise Tabernacle Church, 2235 Ocean Heights Ave, in Egg Harbor Twp., religious services will begin at 11:00 am and interment will follow at Atlantic Co. LOMBARDI, JAMES A., 97 - of Ocean City, on Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Ocean Point Health Care Center in Somers Point.
Born in Philadelphia, PA he had lived in Haddonfield before moving to Ocean City in 1976.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army and a member of the American Legion in Haddonfield.
Mr. Lombardi was a graduate of Wharton School of Business, Class of 1937, and was president for Fidelity Mutual Savings and Loan Association in Haddon Township.
He was a member of St. Augustine's R.C. Church in Ocean City.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Collette C. Lombardi (nee Cramer) of Ocean City, a daughter, Collette L. Smith of Baltimore, MD, a sister Dorothy McHale of Garden Grove, CA, a brother, Charles Lombardi of Cherry Hill, two grandchildren, Vanessa O'Mara, Matthew J. Smith, and two great grandchildren, Lily Susana O'Mara, and Finnegan Francis O'Mara.
Friends may call Thursday morning from half past eight until half past nine at the Godfrey Funeral Home, 809 Central Avenue, Ocean City. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at ten o'clock from St. Augustine's R.C. Church, 13th Street at Wesley Avenue, Ocean City. Burial will be held at 12:45 in the afternoon in Calvary cemetery, Cherry Hill.
EPSTEIN, ROSALYN, 77 - of Ventnor, formerly of Wilmington, DE, died April 3, 2005.
She is survived by her children, Marci Brenner Elliott, Laura Brenner, Marsha Epstein Gamiel and Dr. Matt Epstein; sister, Frances Bellak and seven grandchildren, Shara & Jolie Gamiel, Daniel & Gregory Elliott, Eric, Zachary, & Samantha Epstein. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005 in the Jewish Community cemetery on Foulk Rd., Wilmington. Shiva will be observed 6:15 PM, Thursday at 5605 Marshall Ave., Ventnor Heights.
