SHIELDS EDITH E. (Whitney), 86 - of the Victorian Towers, Cape May, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, July 11, 2004.
Mrs. Shields was born in Brooklyn, NY, and has been a lifetime resident of the area. She was a graduate of Cape May High School, Class of 1937.
She was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May. She was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 56, Cape May; a past member of the Cape May City Elementary School Board of Education; and a past member of the Cape May County Soroptomist Club.
Mrs. Shields is survived by: two sons, Michael Shields and his wife Linda, of Cape May and Terry Shields and his wife Beverly, of Cape May; her grandchildren, Michael Shields, of Philadelphia, PA, Corey and Casey Shields, Kimberly McGann, and Kelly McFadden and her husband John, and Shari Shields, all of Cape May; her great grandchildren, Courtney and Chaz McGann, and Andrew and Bryan McFadden; nephew, Steven Whitney, and niece Judith Vivian; and the many friends she made while living in the Victorian Towers.
Edith was a caring and loving Mother, Mom Mom, and Nana to her family, always thinking of them first.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Sudak-Danaher Funeral Home, 815 Washington St., Cape May. There will be viewings on Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral services in Cold Spring cemetery, Lower Township.

CAVALLO, ANTHONY, 76 - of Brigantine, formerly of Syracuse, NY, died Sunday, July 11, 2004.
Anthony is survived by his wife Catherine (nee Farruggio) and his son Joseph Granata and his wife Ann; his daughters Rosanne Granata and Jeannette Nickell and her husband Bryan, all of Brigantine. He is also survived by his grandchildren Carina and Angelina Granata and Jake and Katie Mae Nickell.

MATHIS, VEARL PRICE, 81 - of Beach Haven and Jupiter, Fl, died July 9, 2004, at her home in Jupiter. She was born in Parkertown, and was the daughter of the late Adam and Leona Price.
Vearl served as a Wave in the US Navy during WW II, and was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern star. She loved to fish and crab on her boat, "The Three Angels", then cook it all for her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ken Mathis; her sister, Betty Corlis of Cedar Run; three daughters, Sandra Tarpinian of Falls Church, VA, Vearl Harrington of Barnegat, and Charlene Liddy of Jupiter FL; and five grandchildren, Lee Hopkins, Megan Harrington, Bill Harrington, Jessica Liddy, and Joe Liddy.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00, August 8, at the Wright Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rt9, in Barnegat.

DAUBERT, JR. THOMAS G. 63 - of Ocean City, died Saturday at the Shores of Wesley Manor. Tom was an area resident for 20 years and was born in Philadelphia PA. Tom was the owner of Thomas Promotions in Ocean City. Survived by two daughters, Laurie (Dom) Rizzo and Lynn (John De Annuntis, parents Thomas and Eleanor Daubert Sr. on sister, Joan Bolvin, and seven grandchildren, John, Gina, Jackie, Nicholas, Alexandria, Katelyn and Rachel. A memorial service will be held Wednesday 2pm at the Middleton-Stroble & Zale Funeral Home, 304 Shore Road, Somers Point.
JANUSZKA, HELEN, M. (MC LAUGHLIN) 83 - of Longport, died July 11, 2004 at her resident from a long very serious sickness. Beloved wife of Edmund S. Januszka.
Helen was formerly of Kensington and Rhawnhurst sections of Philadelphia. In her early years of employment with the government, she worked for the Veterans Administration, Frankford Arsenal and retired from the Defense Industrial Supply Center, located at the
Navel Depot in the Northeast section of Philadelphia.
Survived by a sister, Rita McLaughlin, two brothers Thomas (Peg) McLaughlin, Edward McLaughlin. nieces and nephew, including a very close friend Ann Wilson.

DiJOSEPH, CALOGERA (Carrie) (nee Sava) 84 - of Hammonton, passed away Sunday July 11, 2004. Born in Sicily, Italy she lived in Hammonton for the past 54 years. She was a retired Handsewer for 40 years with Hammonton Park Clothes. She was a member of the Hammonton Senior Citizens. Surviving are her husband Criss, two daughters Sandy Renere (Pistol) and Judy Fields (Rich) all of Hammonton, two sisters Angie Sava of Toms River, and Jean LaRoss of Haddonfield, dear friend of the family Marie Policare, loving grandmother of Steven Ranere (Maritza), Russell Ranere (Liz), Renee Ranere, Mark Fields (Tanya), Brian Fields (Dominique) and Scott Fields, great grandmother of five. LEBENTRITT, JR., STEPHEN E., 76 - of Cape May Court House, formerly of Troy, NY passed away Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Crest Haven Nursing Home in Cape May Court House after a long illness. Born in Troy, he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He lived in the Albany, NY area for 69 years where he worked in maintenance prior to moving to New Jersey to be near his family.
Stephen was predeceased by his wife Alice (nee Rustin). He is survived by his three children; Denise Landset and her husband David of Ocean View, Edward and his wife Jolinda of Laurel, MD and Walter of Cape May Court House. He was the brother of Donald Lebentritt, Julia Soto Lebentritt and the late Doris Dwoncyzk. He was the grandfather of Jeffrey and Rachel Landset of Ocean View, and Laura and Maggie Lebentritt of Maryland. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

PEARSON, MICHAEL JOHN, 34 - of North Cape May, died on July 10, 2004. He was a clam boat captain. Surviving are his wife, Sharon A.; children, Michael, Jr., Jonathon Richard, Jordan Lee and Kathleen Nancy, all at home; his father, James L., Jr. of New Orleans, La.; two brothers James III of Alabama and Brian of NJ. He was predeceased by his mother, Kathleen Nancy Pearson. There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 1-3 PM at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., N. Cape May, followed by a service at 3 PM. Burial will be in Cold Spring cemetery.
JAMES, JUDITH CAHILL - died after a short but courageous battle with cancer on July 8, 2004. Born in 1928 and raised on the road by Vaudevillian Star parents, Elaine and James, Judy began to sing at the age of 6 and expanded her act as a headliner in many top theaters such as Copa Cabana, Latin Casino, and 500 Club in Atlantic City. She won a Philadelphia beauty pageant, at the age of 16, then married and raised three devoted children in 1948. Her exceptional singing and dancing talents, along with her ability to play the drums, entertained her fans across the country, as well as Canada. She retired in 1970 to take care of her ill, widowed father for many years. After his death, she moved to the Best of Life Park Taj Mahal Property, in Atlantic City in 1993. She is survived by her three devoted children: Judy Cahill D'Angelo, Veronica Cahill Brancato, and Walter Cahill, Jr.; her grandchildren: Veronica and Bianca Brancato, Susan (Brancato)Woodburn, Lisa (Imbrenda) Rodolico, Jeannine Imbrenda, Nicole Cahill and Matthew Cahill, and four great grandchildren. Friends and family can call Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at O'Leary's Funeral Home, in Springfield, PA or at a memorial mass which will be held on Wednesday 6:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, in Margate, NJ.
SHICK, DOROTHY, "Casey", 90 - of Brigantine, died Sunday, July 11. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, and has been an area resident for the past 50 years. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence and son John. She is survived by her daughter with whom she lived, Joan Speed; two sons, Clarence and his wife Sandra of Absecon and George of Egg Harbor Township. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, and lifelong friends, Elaine and Woody. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Laurel Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon, on Thursday. Donations in her memory may be made to the Holy Redeemer Hospice Assoc.
BARSE, AGNES "Bunnie" (Fichera) 76 - of Vineland & Ocean City, passed away at her residence in Ocean City, Monday morning. She was born in Philadelphia and was a resident of Vineland the last 52 years.
Bunnie was the widow of the late Eugene D. Barse who passed away in 1991. For 25 years she was manager and operator of Holiday Travel on Landis Avenue in Vineland. She was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish.
She is survived by son & daughter-in-law, Perry D. & Kathleen (Reuben) Barse, son Eugene D. PHILLIPS, WILLIAM L., 89 - a resident of Philadelphia and life-long summer resident of Sea Isle City, and Chief Clerk at the FBI's Philadelphia Office for nearly forty years, died at his home in Northeast Philadelphia on July 10, 2004. He was a 1934 graduate of Frankford High School. Mr. Phillips joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1936 after graduating from Pierce Business College. He also attended the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University. He was first appointed Philadelphia's Chief Clerk in 1937. From 1942 through 1944, he performed foreign service assignments at FBI offices in Ecuador, Argentina, and Chile. It was in Chile that he met and married in 1944 the former Margaret Wenborne, his wife of nearly sixty years. Mr. Phillips then served two years in the United States Army, where he was assigned to the Philippines and Tokyo, Japan, where he served in General MacArthur's administrative headquarters staff. Returning to Philadelphia in 1946, Mr. Phillips was reappointed Chief Clerk of the Philadelphia's FBI office and her remained in that position until his retirement in 1980. While Chief Clerk, Mr. Phillips supervised more than one hundred FBI support service personnel. He helped lead the expansion of the Philadelphia FBI office from the Liberty Trust Building to its present location at the William J. Green, Jr. Federal Building and the James A. Byrne Federal Courthouse, where is continues to be one of the largest FBI offices in the nation. Following his retirement from the FBI, Mr. Phillips provided administrative support to the 1986 Philadelphia Special Investigation MOVE Commission. An accomplished organist, Mr. Phillips also played the organ as a second part-time career at various restaurants in Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey including Busch's Seafood Restaurant of Sea Isle City.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; sons, Robert of Sea Isle City, Donald of Rockville, MD, Dennis of Ashburn, VA; and daughter, Margaret Humes of Philadelphia PA; also survived by eleven grandchildren.

MEDINA, HERMINIO, 93 - of Woodbine, died Sunday "July 11, 2004 at the Eastern Shore Nursing Home, Cape May Court House. Born in Puerto Rico, Mr. Medina has resided in Woodbine for over 20 years, and worked most of is life as a carpenter. He is survived by his wife Ramona, and three sons, Milo, Joe, and Papo, all of Puerto Rico. Also survived by his sister Blanca of PR, and many grandchildren. Mr. Medina also was a foster grandfather, at the Woodbine Developmental Center, for many years. Visitation will be Thursday July 15, 2004 from 10:00 until 11:00 at the Spanish Pentecostal Church, Franklin St. Woodbine. Service to follow visitation at the church. Interment will be in Head of the River cemetery, Estell Manor. Arrangements are by the Langley-Loveland Funeral Home Tuckahoe.
TOMPKINS, EDWARD E. - of Smithfield, Utah, died July 10, 2004 at his home surrounded by family. He was born December 27, 1924 in Atlantic City to Edward and Mary Tompkins. He served in the submarine service during World War II in the South Pacific for 3 1/2 years. In 1948 he married Arleine Gartner. They have two sons, Edward in Alaska and Thomas in Hyde Park. He joined the Atlantic City Fire Department in 1949. He was the third generation to serve. He retired after 27 years. Upon retiring he moved to Mendon, later moving to Smithfield. He enjoyed re-modeling houses and making furniture. Hobbies were fishing, hunting and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Arleine; and his two sons; five grandsons and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ed disliked traditional viewings and funerals. He desired cremation. There will be a Celebration of Life at his home, 244 West Center, Smithfield, Utah on August 1, 2004 from 3 to 8 p.m. His family invites his friends to gather and share food and memories.
O'NEILL, FLORENCE P. (nee SHAW), "FLOSSIE", 79 - of Millville, died suddenly Monday morning at her residence.
She was born in Philadelphia, and she graduated from Overbrook High School. She worked for A & P Food Markets in Philadelphia and the suburbs as a cashier. She moved to Millville in 1959, and she and her husband, Frank operated O'Neill's Grocery Store in the 3rd Ward for several years and then worked for A & P Grocery store.
She was a member of the Board of Directors of the 3rd Ward Advisory Council, and she was active in the Neighborhood watch. She and her husband were R.D. Wood School's adopted grandparents. She enjoyed the ocean and the beach, and wintering in Dayton Beach, Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Francis J. "Frank"; one step-daughter, Patricia Grokowski of Myrtle Beach, SC; one grandson, Timothy Grokowski of West Chester, PA; one great granddaughter, Alexandria Christine Limpias of Baldwinsville, NY; and one brother, Marvin "Reds" Shaw of Millville.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 1 a.m. in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. Viewings will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.
