Herchenrider, Sr., Milton W.
Milton W. Herchenrider Sr. of Avalon passed away early Monday morning April 5, 2010 surrounded by his three loving sons. Born in 1924 and raised in Philadelphia, he was a proud graduate of Penn State University where he earned his mechanical engineering degree. Upon graduation, Milt served in the United States Navy as an ensign. He soon met his dear love, Susanne Larimer. The couple married in April of 1949 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Milt and Susanne raised their three sons in the Gulph Mills area of Pennsylvania where as a professional engineer Milt owned and operated his engineering firm, Engineered Heat. Upon retirement, the couple's love of the ocean led them to divide their time between homes in Avalon, NJ and Great Harbor Cay, Bahamas. Milt loved to go boating, fishing, and golfing, and to cheer on his Nittany Lions. He was a true gentleman who always wore a smile and had a kind word for anyone who passed his way. He simply had a cheerful approach to life. Above all, Milt was a family man. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law and uncle, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Susanne. He is survived and will be dearly missed by sons Milt Jr. and wife Ann, Stephen and wife Barbara, and Thomas and wife Barbara. Five grandchildren, Stephen Jr, Christine, Kelsey, Thomas Jr, and Andrew also mourn the passing of their dear, sweet granddad. An adored "furry little son", Honey Bear, will be missing his daddy as well. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Wells Presbyterian Church, 9th Street and First Avenue, Avalon with a luncheon to follow. Adams, Edward Joseph

Edward Joseph Adams, 84, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia to the late Clarence and Helen Adams, he had lived here for 23 years. He worked at Sears Roebuck in Philadelphia and was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church.
Mr. Adams was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He served on the USS Whitehurst and was recognized as a hero. A Japanese plane hit the ship and he put out the fire, saving the lives of the people on the ship. President Truman sent a letter to him acknowledging his actions. His name was added to the World War II Monument.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat; his daughters, Donna Alullo and Carol Bakley; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be said on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery.
Forster, Isaac C.

Isaac C. Forster, 78, of Cape May Court House, NJ, entered the life eternal on Sunday evening April 4, 2010 from his home with his wife and son by his side after a valiant struggle with illness. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late Isaac and Marie Forster, Jr., he lived in Cape May County since 1958. He was a teacher at Wildwood High School for 35 years, teaching many business courses. He also directed the Senior plays and assisted with the proms. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Order of the DeMolay; the Shriners, and a 32nd degree Mason.
Mr. Forster was a coach and board member of the Wildwood Little League. He was a volunteer for the Wildwood Crest Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He enjoyed listening to music especially Frank Sinatra. He was very interested in sports.
Mr. Forster is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth; his three children, Sheryl Wagner of Pittsburgh, PA, Kimberly Bergeron of Mays Landing, and Isaac David Forster of Cape May Court House; his brothers, David Forster and Arthur Forster, both of Harveys Lake, PA; and his grandson, Brian Huff, Jr.
Isaac will always be remembered for his love of family, life, and faith in God.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 9212 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ 08247. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Johnson, Marie A.
Marie A. Johnson, age 88, of Swainton, NJ, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2010 after a short illness. Marie was born in Millville, NJ on April 23, 1921, the daughter of the late Eva and Edward Lawrence, and moved to Avalon, NJ with her family in 1927.
On September 24, 1941, she married her best friend, the late Charles "Pete" Johnson and they had a long and happy marriage. Marie was employed by the Cape May County Board Of Elections for thirty one years before retirement in 1989. She was a trustee of the Asbury Methodist Church in Swainton for many years before becoming a senior member of the Greater Vision Bible Fellowship Church in Marmora, NJ.
In her spare time, she loved to crochet and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was passionate about reading in addition to doling on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Annamarie Gilman and son, Rod Gilman of Swainton; four grandchildren: Rod (Linda) Gilman, Jr., Alice Marie (Jim) Lees, Cory (Tracey) Gilman, and Susan (Derek) Garner; and great grandmother to Jasmine, Jason, Morgan, Evan, and Jordyn; a sister, Marguerite Flaherty of Holbrook, MA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of forty six years, Charles "Pete", she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Beers; her sisters Marguerite Booth, Marion Rice, Betty Flaherty and her brother, Edward Lawrence.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Noon at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Av., Cape May Court House, where friends may visit 11:00 a.m. to Noon. Esher, Linda R.
Linda R. Esher, 70, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Crest Haven Nursing Home. Born in Harrisburg, PA to the late George H. and Caroline A. (Fishburn) Poorman, she moved here in 1964 from Boston, MA. She was a middle school teacher at Cape Christian Academy and was a member of the Christian Women's Club.
Mrs. Esher is survived by her husband of 49 years, Warren W. Esher; her four daughters, Karen Lange, Wendy Esher, Robin Conley, and Julie Alghrary; her sister, Carol Lesser; eight grandchildren; and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at The Lighthouse Church, 1248 Route 9 South, Cape May Court House, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private at the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Russo, Carmella "Mildred"
Carmella "Mildred" Russo, 84 of Sea Isle City, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at her home. Born in Somerdale to Salvadore and Elizabeth DeVaro Russo, she later worked as a beautician. For many years she was the owner of the Sea Aire Motel and Bel Aire Apartments in North Wildwood. She was a member of AARP Chapter #710 of Sea Isle City, a member of the Sea Isle City Garden Club, and a Sea Isle City Beach Tagger.
Mildred is survived by her cousins: Jennie Arno Hadfield, Danille Panaseny, Paul Arno, Mary Deal, Donna Hadfield, Michael Hadfield, Joseph Hadfield, William Maatje, and many other dear cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 4308 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be at New St. Mary's cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ. Kresge, Olympia
Kresge, Olympia, 76, of Avalon, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at her home. Born in Lebanon, PA to Theodore and Victoria Kutcher Axarlis, she later lived in Woodbury and moved to Avalon in 1995. She volunteered much of her time, especially for Volunteers In Medicine. She enjoyed handcrafts, particularly quilting and knitting. She was an excellent cook. She traveled widely including several years living in Italy and Japan.
Olympia is survived by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth, her sons Charles (Catherine) of Michigan and Michael (Linda) of Woodbury; her daughter Lori (Steven) Rolston of Maryland; her brothers Charles and S. Theodore Axarlis of Pennsylvania; her grandchildren Selena, Alexander, Colin, Benjamin, Gregory, Grace, and Alison; and great grandchild Joscelyn Olympia.

McMullin, Mary E.
Mary E. McMullin, 83, of Cape May Court House and Estero, FL, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2010. Born in Philadelphia to the late John and Bridget (Ward) Hopkins, she was a graduate of Little Flower High School Class of 1944. She was a very active member of Our Lady of Light Church, which was founded by her late brother Fr. Thomas Hopkins OSFS, in Estero, FL and attended Our Lady of the Angels in Cape May Court House. She was past president of the Ladies Society at Our Lady of Light Church
Mrs. McMullin is survived by her children, James P. (Cynthia) McMullin, Mary A. (Thomas) O'Donnell, Matthew (Mary Jo) McMullin, William McMullin, Thomas McMullin, and John (Karen) McMullin; her sister, Agnes (William) MacFalls; her nine grandchildren; and her seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Francis McMullin on May 30, 1989 and her son, Mark McMullin on March 1, 2001.
Memorial Mass will be said on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 4308 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City, where visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial services will be held in Florida. DeLancey, Freda
Freda DeLancey, of South Seaville, passed away on Friday morning, March 19, 2010 at Cooper Hospital. Freda was an employee of Mac's Restaurant for 32 years. She is predeceased by her husband of 40 years Howard, her parents Anna and Conrad Reising, and seven brothers and sisters. She was the best mother, grandmother, and great grandmother anyone could have.
She will be sadly missed by her son Howard (Linda) of Antioch, CA; and three daughters Barbara (Lou) Bufalo of Sea Isle City, Helen Biggs of Marmora, and Dot Johnson of Rio Grande. She was a loving grandmother of two granddaughters Barbara (Gerry) Smith and LouAnn (Michael) VanLiew; five grandsons Camillo (Melanie) Bufalo, Donnie (Cheri) Biggs, Dan (Susan) Biggs, John Mathis, and Michael (Melissa) Mathis; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Seaville Methodist cemetery.

Hamway, Samuel J., 84, of Swainton passed away on Friday, March 19, 2010. Born in Patterson to James and Frieda (formerly Azar) Hamway, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later worked for the Nabisco Co. in Fairlawn. He moved from Totawa to Swainton in 1996.
He is survived by his wife Carmela (formerly Pisano), son Joseph (Cora) Hamway of Long Valley, daughter Yvonne (Lee) Bromfield of Bridgewater, his sister Jenni Nabba of Totawa, grandchildren Samuel and Joseph along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Angels Church, 35 Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House. Sullivan, Joann, 42, of Lillington, NC passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. She is survived by her daughter Melissa. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's cemetery, 1056 Seashore Road, Cape May, NJ 08204.
Watson, Mabel Vera Champion
Mabel Vera Champion Watson, 83, of South Dennis, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Goshen to the late John C. and Mary E. Champion on July 14, 1926, she later moved to South Dennis before entering Oceana Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mabel is survived by her brother John S. Champion of South Dennis; two nephews, John H. Champion and Vernon D. Champion; two nieces, Martha Sue Cella and Dorothy L. Smaniotto; and great nieces and nephews, Anna Champion, Stephanie, Fran, and JJ Cella, Alex Smaniotto, and Shelby Montgomery.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave., Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Union cemetery, South Dennis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family for the burial fund.
Germer, Jr., Edgar H.
Edgar H. Germer, Jr., of Avalon, NJ and La Quinta, CA, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Eisenhower Medical Center in California. He was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Collegeville, PA, and San Marino, CA, before living in Avalon and La Quinta. He was a risk manager for ARCO for over 30 years.
Mr. Germer is survived by his sons, David E. Germer of Alaska and Scott J. (daughter in law Cheri) Germer of California; his brother, Edward Germer; his sister, Ethel Kleinz; and his grandchildren, Jennifer, Brandon, Benjamin, Kathryn and Emma. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora on October 21, 1998.

Sjostrom, Brenda F.
Brenda F. Sjostrom, age 76, of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Monday, March 15, 2010. She was born in Providence, RI, the daughter of the late Harry and Martha Hurwitz Fowler.
In 1968, she moved to Cape May Court House from Vineland, NJ with her late husband, John W. and was a retired legal secretary for her husband's law firm.
Brenda was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House and a long-time member of the Philanthropic Educational Association. She enjoyed being a "Granny" to her granddaughters: Stephanie and Lauren; going out to dinner with the "Dinner Belles"; knitting; going to the beach and just hanging out with all her friends.
In addition to her granddaughters, she is survived by her daughter and son in law: Carole and Jack Miller of Cape May Court House and her sister, Maureen Fowler of Brookline, MA. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill and her sister, Barbara Swartz.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010, at 11 am at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ where friends may visit from 10 to 11 am.
