Dowdell, Thomas J.
Dowdell, Thomas J., 78, of Sea Isle City passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010. Born on March 28, 1932 in Philadelphia to Thomas Dowdell and Annamae Wayne, he soon after moved and grew up in Sea Isle. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later owned Roma Bros. Contractors for 25 years in Philadelphia working as a Contractor and Master Tilesman. He moved back to Sea Isle in 1983 and was a member of VFW SIC Post 1963 and loved boating, fishing, and crabbing. He will be missed by his family who loved him as an amazing father, businessman, caretaker to all, and mentor.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Eleanor Oryl and Patzy Van Dyke; his wife, Dorothy Dowdell; his daughter, Linda Wayda; and his step-daughter, Lisa Vassallo.
Thomas is survived by his children: Sharon (Jesse) Quintero, Colleen (Lee) Dowdell, Patricia Mulcahy, and Thomas J. Dowdell III; grandchildren: Stephen and Sean Wayda, Cassandra Wiggins-Dowdell, Amber Mulcahy, and Thomas J. Dowdell IV; nieces and nephews: Robbie, Michelle, Susie and their children; his companion Pauline Taylor and her children Frank, Cynthia, Debra, and her grandchildren; and Tom's long time best friend Michael Stafford and his daughter Patricia who the family expresses deepest gratitude for their kindness and support.
A Funeral Mass will be said on Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 44th St. and Landis Avenue, Sea Isle, NJ 08243. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Donations may be made the Lupus Foundation of NJ, 1873 Rt. 70 East, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 in memory of Lisa Vassallo.
Bliven, Donald Rhodes

Donald Rhodes Bliven, 72, of Dias Creek, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Manteo, NC to the late Herbert C. and Lucetta Marie (Mann) Bliven, he moved here over 40 years ago. He was formerly employed at Monaghan Tire in Rio Grande. He loved to work on old cars, especially Fords, and collected antique Falcons.
Mr. Bliven is survived by his companion of over 30 years, Hazel Weaver; his daughters, Melanie Nebbeling and Donna Bliven; Hazel's children, Jerry Hand, Donald Hand, Joyce Weaver, and Dorothy Mason; his brother, Herbert; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eddie.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Union cemetery, South Dennis.
Crews, David Shaw
David Shaw Crews, 50, of North Cape May, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Born in Philadelphia, he moved here in 1988 from Glen Riddle, PA. He was the owner/operator of David Crews Painting. He was a member and usher of Our Lady of the Angels Church. David was a devoted father to his children, taking them to their piano lessons, church, soccer, hockey, and other sports events. He was very proud of them and loved them dearly. He was a loving son and brother and was a friend to many. He had a wonderful sense of humor that he shared with his family and friends.
David is survived by his mother Jessie Crews Rantz; his children, Mary Beth Crews and Daniel "Danny" Crews; his sisters and brother, JoAnn Downes, Wayne Crews, and Nancy Douthwaite; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Crews.
Memorial Mass will be said on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House. Interment will be private. Pierce, Hazel Louise
PIERCE, HAZEL LOUISE, 79, of Vineland, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010. She was born in Philadelphia and was formerly employed at Woodbine Developmental Center. She is survived by her children, Brenda J. Young, Mary P. Padilla, Yvonne Pierce-Smith, Barbara Alston, and Eddie Alston; her sister, Joyce V. Thompson; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2411 Memorial Avenue, Port Norris, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mt. Olive cemetery, Cape May Court House.
Clark, Harry Edward
CLARK, HARRY EDWARD, age 50, of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the City Division of AtlantiCare Medical Center.
He was born in Sea Isle City, NJ, the son of Harry "Jake" and Claire (Elliott) Clark and lived most of his life in Stone Harbor. He was a housepainter.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Pamela (Jeffery) Lyons and a nephew, Samuel Lyons all of Cherry Hill. Services and interment are private.
Pfeiffer, Albert R.

Albert R. Pfeiffer, 80, of Stone Harbor, NJ, formerly of Cedars, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. He was the former owner of Pfeiffer's Cedar Tavern in Cedars, PA. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Herman Humbolt Masonic Lodge and member of the 7-Mile Singers, and served in the United States Marine Corp.
Mr. Pfeiffer was the devoted husband of Elsie (nee Buehl); loving father of Albert G. (Vickie) Pfeiffer, Karen (Gary) Davidson, Lisa (John) Musselman, Gale (Paul) Klause, and Susan (Kevin) Mott; grandfather of Liana and Evan Musselman, Kevin and Brian Klause, and Benjamin, Jennifer, and Olivia Mott.

Brennan, Dorothy R.
Brennan, Dorothy R., 87, of Stone Harbor, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Born in Marlton, NJ to the late William and Eva Duncan, she moved to Stone Harbor from Marlton in 1948. She was a member of St. Paul's Church and the Stone Harbor Seniors Club. An avid reader and Philadelphia sports fan, she retired as the Clerk of the Borough of Avalon after serving as Deputy Clerk for 16 years.
Mrs. Brennan is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Deibert and husband, Roy of Seaville; her son, James R. Brennan, Jr. and wife, Sandy of Budd Lake; her daughter in law, Irene Brennan of Cherry Hill; her sister, Edna Wells; and her six grandchildren, James R. (Kari) Brennan, III, Josie (Augustine) Brennan Staino, Jason Deibert, Andrew Deibert, Susan Brennan, and Thomas Brennan. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Brennan, Sr. on July 27, 2007 and her son, Michael G. Brennan on January 30, 2007.

Emma Lashley, 81, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2010. Born in Seaville, she was a lifetime resident of this area. She sold strawberries, wreaths, and blueberries on Dennisville Road in Cape May Court House.
Mrs. Lashley is survived by her sons, Leonard Lashley, Eli Lashley, Jr., Joe Lashley, and David Lashley; her daughters, Emma Lee, Paula Jones, Betty Jean Meyer, Rhoda Lashley, Lilly Moore, Rae Ann Frank, Mary Lou Horton, and Diane Lashley; 46 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. There will not be a viewing after the service. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family.

Bell, Jr., John H., 38, of North Cape May, NJ, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2010. He was born in Woodbury, NJ and moved to North Cape May seven years ago after living in Wildwood for three years. He loved everything about cars, but it was his family that was most important to him.
John is survived by his wife, Colleen; his father, John Bell, Sr. and wife, Ann of Galloway; his mother, Gloria Fleming of Malaga; his step children, Crystal M. Jones, James J. Jones, Jr., Joshua S. Hoffmann, and Noah J. Hoffmann; his sisters, Kelly Williams of Monroeville; Cindy Klingberg of Blackwood; Lucille Bell-Carpinelli of Clayton; Angel Bechard of Lake Monroe, FL; Sonya Fleming of Malaga and Emmalee Bell of Galloway; four nieces: Luann Bell, Gloria Bell, Stephanie Klingberg and Nikki Williams; four nephews: C. Daniel Williams, Jr., William Klingberg, Jr.; Timothy Klingberg and Sean Klingberg.

Dorothy B. Ullrich, 72, of North Wildwood, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. She was born in Philadelphia, PA and moved here in 1986. She was a salesperson at Fams P&S in Wildwood.
Mrs. Ullrich is survived by her daughter, Dottie Mahoney of North Wildwood; and her two grandchildren, Jessica Mahoney and Matt Mahoney.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 333 County Line Road, Lower Southampton, PA. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. Carlson, Robert C.
Carlson, Robert C., "Captain Bud", 68, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Wildwood to the late Harold and Louise Carlson, he was a lifetime resident of this area. He enjoyed designing boats & building boats at Yank Marine Boat Works in Tuckahoe. He brought the modern day speedboat industry to Cape May County in 1990. Presently operating the Thundercat speed boat and dolphin watch in Wildwood Crest with his family members at his side. He also was a commercial clammer & entrepreneur. He loved spending time with his granddaughters and going to their crew races and swim meets and enjoyed his home in Fort Myers Florida when not building boats or operating his business.
Bud is survived by his devoted wife & best friend of 40 years, Kathy A. Carlson (Stocker); his daughter, Jill Fluharty and husband, Tom of Mays Landing; his three granddaughters, Emily, Madison, and Mae; his brother, Jim Carlson and wife, Bonnie of Wildwood Crest; his sister, Jean Illingsworth and husband, Ted of Cape May Court House; his mother in law, Betty Stocker of Easton, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. Richter, Helen M.
Helen M. Richter, 91, of Ocean City, passed away August 31, 2010 at Court House Convalescent Center surrounded by her loved ones.
Born August 30, 1919 in Philadelphia, she lived in King of Prussia until moving to Ocean City in 1966. While residing in the shore community, she was one of the prime forces behind the Ocean City Community Theatre where she participated as its director for many years. She also participated and eventually became president of the Ocean City Colony Club where she remained an honorary member.
Mrs. Richter was an avid bridge player, artist, and collector of miniatures. She created, by hand, many of the miniature pictures and accessories for her doll houses.
Her employers in Ocean City consisted of Hogates Restaurant (1966-1972) and The Flanders Hotel (1980-1992) where she assumed the position of dining room manager in both locales. Mrs. Richter and her family had also operated a seasonal restaurant Preps in Ocean City.
While living in Pennsylvania, she and her late husband, Alan, were founding members of the King of Prussia Players, a drama theater group.
She was known as being loving and caring to all, whether they came on two legs or four.
She is predeceased by her husband Alan; survived by six children, Joanne Wilkie, Susan Myers, Alan Richter, Jr. (Penny), Jacquelynne Tarves (James), Patricia Likens, and Madeline Stetser (James); 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 30th Street and Bay Avenue, Ocean City. Donations may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Bishop, Wilma S.
Wilma S. Bishop, 99, of Bethlehem, died on August 30, 2010 in Stone Harbor, NJ, where for over 50 years she enjoyed spending summers with her family. Mrs. Bishop was born in Johnstown, PA, June 17, 1911 to Louis R. and Anna Burggraf Steuer. A graduate of Bucknell University, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben L. Bishop. They had been married 68 years.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her daughters, Anne Yetman of Lawrence, Kansas, and Barbara Popovsky of Ridgewood, New Jersey; their husbands, Norman Yetman and Gerald Popovsky; and her son, Ben L. (Buzz) Bishop, Jr. of Mansfield, Ohio. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9 North, Swainton, NJ 08210, or a charity of your choice.
English, Thomas Richard
Thomas Richard English, 74, of Avalon, NJ and Delray Beach, FL, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2010. Born in Oil City, PA to the late Charles and Margaret (Garvey) English, he has summered in Avalon since 1979 and lived in Florida for the past 25 years. He previously resided in Audubon, PA for 16 years. He was a member of Maris Stella Church in Avalon and St. Lucy Church in Highland Beach, FL. He founded Air Dimensions, Inc. in 1971 and was the President/CEO. An avid fisherman and traveler of the world with his wife, he was a wonderful husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren.
Mr. English is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joanne (Schmalzried) English; his children, David, Michael, Gregory, and Kryn; his brother, Charles English; his sister, Helen Bohn; and his grandchildren, Erin, Megan, Morgan, Luke, and Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret "Peg" Ward.
Funeral Mass will be said on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Maris Stella Church, 50th Street and Dune Drive, Avalon. There is no viewing time. Interment will be private.
