Becmer, Stephen M., 81 - of Cape May Court House passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011. Born in Bayonne to Stephen and Henrietta, he earned an athletic scholarship to Seton Hall for football and track. He later served in the US Army before working for Chevron Oil. He moved to the area in 1985 after living in California and North Jersey.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edythe (formerly Pieper); his sons Stephen III (Joanne) and Robert (Mary); 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Viewing will begin 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.

McVey, Irma F.

McVey, Irma Friesenborg, 75 - died peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 2, 2011. She was a lifelong resident of Cape May County, a graduate of Phillip P. Baker School, Wildwood High School and Beaver College. She was very proud of her Wildwood heritage and was a 30-year media specialist in the Lower Township School System. She enjoyed traveling, especially with her grandchildren, being a Master Gardener, birding, the beach and of course reading.

Irma is survived by her children, Diane McVey (Rick) of Wildwood Crest, David McVey (Carol) of Erma and Linda Sterrett (Tom) of Franklin, NC, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, a sister, Inge Laine (Gus) of Rio Grande and a brother, Siebo Friesenborg (Doranne) of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert McVey and her parents Ehlko and Meta Friesenborg. She leaves behind an abundance of friends and was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support during her brief illness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irma's name may be given to "Love of Linda Cancer Fund" PO Box 1053 Wildwood, NJ 08260 or to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 2810 Atlantic Ave, Wildwood, NJ 08260. A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011.

Sweeten, Judith

Sweeten, Judith, 70 - of Rio Grande passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. She was born in Philadelphia to Joseph and Loretta Piriano. She proudly graduated from St. Maria Goretti High School in 1958 which was the first graduating class of the school and later moved to this area in 1970. Judith was a member of Our Lady of The Angels Church and a member of the Cape May Village Haiti Relief and Java For Jesus Committees. She was an avid Phillies fan and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Judith is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert; her sons Robert (Janet) of Erma and Richard (Karen) of Rio Grande; her sister Loretta (Richard) Olivieri of Philadelphia; her grandchildren Hannah, Richard, Jared, Diane, and Kelly; and nieces Michelle and Lisa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of The Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Cold Spring cemetery in Cape May. Donations may be made in Judith's name to Our Lady of The Angels Church/House of Charity at the same address.

Palombi, Jean H.

Palombi, Jean H., 88, of Green Creek went home to the Lord on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at home with her family by her side. Born in Canandaigua, NY to Burrell and Margaret Sterling, she later lived in Riverside before moving to Cape May in 1973. She worked as an Admissions Clerk at Cape Regional Medical Center and was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of The Sea Church in Cape May. She was predeceased by her husband Felice in 1980.

Jean is survived by her daughter Marge (Ed) Panny of Green Creek; nephews Michael (Adele) Zenzel of California and Richard Zenzel of Mississippi; grandchildren: Eric, Michael, and Kathleen; great grandchildren: Jason and Joseph; her 'adopted' daughters: Barbara (Rick) and Donna (Greg); her cat 'Sweetie'; and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of The Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic St., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery in Riverside, NJ on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. Donations may be made in Jean's name to the Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, 4 Moore Road - DN 501B, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.

Graham, Barbara Lee

Barbara Lee Graham, 79, of South Dennis, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011. She was born on July 12, 1931 in Millville and was brought up on a farm in Eldora, NJ. She moved to Bridgeton at age 13 and graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1949. She worked at Woodruff Drug Store during high school and after graduation worked at the Cumberland Hotel as a desk clerk until 1953.

Barbara met her husband, Vernon in her sophomore year in high school and was married on August 16, 1951 while he was serving with the U.S. Air Force.

Barbara lived in Bridgeton and moved to Swainton, NJ in 1971. She was the owner/operator of Chatterbox Nursery School for 22 years and was known for her graduation programs. She and her husband have lived in South Dennis for the last eleven years. She was a volunteer at Cape Regional Medical Center for seventeen years and was an active member of the South Dennis Trinity Methodist Church.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 59 years, Vernon Graham; her sons Gary (Kay) of San Antonio, TX and David of Sugarland, TX; her grandson Michael (Jen) and the lights of her life great granddaughters Michaela and Kylie Graham; and her Goddaughter Rose Marie (Sam) Manno of Elmer, NJ.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Eldora Methodist cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 1031 Route 22 West, Suite 203, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 or to a charity of one's choice.

La Grace, Thomas Robert

Thomas Robert La Grace, age 81 years, of North Cape May, NJ passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Born in New Brunswick, NJ to the late Dominic Antonio La Greca & Antoinette Paladino he was a long time resident of North Cape May. He was a proud Marine Corps Veteran of WW II, member of St. John of God Church and Lance Corporal George L. Dramis USMC League Detatchment. He was first and foremost a United States Marine at heart.

He was predeceased by his five brothers, sisters & his son Stephen. Tom will be sadly missed by his daughter Christine La Grace of Houston, TX & two grandsons Ian La Grace and Dylan Dusebout.

Relatives and friends are invited to graveside inurnment service at 3:00 pm, Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House, NJ.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Lance Corporal George L. Dramis Marine Corps League, c/o Bob Bethel, 28 E. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210

May, Sherie L.

Sherie L. May, age 47, of Cape May Court House, NJ, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011. She was born in Cape May Court House, the daughter of the late Paul W. May, Sr. and Edna Streaker May. Sherie was a graduate of Middle Township High School, and the Cape May County Vocational School. She was employed in the bakery of the Vocational Technical High School kitchen.

She was a member of Our Lady Of The Angels Church. She was a volunteer at the former Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital for 15 years.

With her mom by her side, she enjoyed dancing, swimming, biking, and going out to eat, and enjoyed exercising at Miracle Fitness.

She is survived by her mother, Edna M. Tretter; a brother, Paul W. May, Jr. and his wife, Judy; and two nephews, Brian and Jeffrey. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul May, in 1999.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, June 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ, where friends may visit 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Baptist cemetery, Cape May Court House. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Lee, Emma

Lee (formerly Lashley), Emma, 65 - of Goshen passed away on June 21, 2011. Born in Seaville to Eli and Emma Lashley, she was a lifelong resident of the area and formerly worked as a Nurses's Aide at Oceana Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert in 2009 and her son Herbert Wayne Lee.

She is survived by her children: James Turner, Maureen Mutebi, Willie Lashley, Joanne Lee, and Albert Lee; her brother and sisters: Eli, James, Lewis, Joe, Rhoda, David, Leroy, and Leonard Lashley, Lillie Moore, Mary Lou Horton, Rae Ann Frank, Paula Jones, Diane Van, and Betty Meyers; as well as 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Viewing will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Seaville Methodist cemetery.

Farina, Sr., Joseph A.
Army

Joseph A. Farina, Sr., 84, of North Cape May, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011. Born in Haverford Township, PA to the late Joseph D. and Louise (Fiano) Farina, he moved here in 1977 from Bridgeport, NY. He was formerly employed at Leesburg State Prison. He was a member of Ponderlodge Golf Club and loved golf, playing cards, and shopping at the dollar store.

Mr. Farina was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Louise Farina on March 30, 2008. He is survived by his loving children: Ron and Debbie, Carol, Joe Jr. and Peg, Ted, Bob and Laurie, Debra and Paul, Joanie and Dave, Harry and Cindy, Donny, Louann and Don; his precious grandchildren: Sarah, Julianna, Gwendalyn, Joe III, Jennifer, Ted Jr., Tonya, Tyler, Carly, Matthew, Paul III, Chris, Kimi, Shaun, Shane, Zeth, Austin, Isabella, Grace, Sophia, Darrien, Brandon, Emily, and Dylan; his adoring great grandchildren: Kayla, Mariah, Carlos, Ryan, Teddy III, Morgan, and Baby Royce on the way; his brother David, Ida's brothers and sisters, Elizabeth, Carolyn, Ted (Peg), Jack (Marlene), and Barbara; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9 North, Swainton, NJ 08210.

Stattner, Steven Allen

Steven Allen Stattner, 66, of Avalon, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Born in Washington D.C. to the late Milton and Marion (Roth) Stattner, he moved to Avalon in 1980. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Avalon. He was also a member and president of the Avalon Fishing Pier. He was a real estate developer and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Stattner is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his daughters, Allison, Jodi, and Karen; his sister Susanne Gartner; and his eight grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Avalon, 34th Street and Dune Drive, Avalon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steven's memory may be made to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, P.O. Box 016960 (M-867), Miami, FL 33101.

Goodwin, Margaret Mary

Margaret Mary Goodwin, 86, of Wildwood, passed away on June 17, 2011. Born in Trenton, NJ, she was a local resident for the past 53 years.

She was a member of St. Ann's Parish and Church of the Assumption. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by her two sons, Frank Goodwin (Joanne Bukenas) and Bill Goodwin (Barbara); five grandchildren, Frank Goodwin, III, Stephen Goodwin, Krista Goodwin, William Goodwin (Emmy), and Anthony Goodwin (Heather); one great grandchild, Gabriella; and her dear friend, Stan Higgs.

Burial will take place at St. Mary's cemetery, 1056 Seashore Road, Cold Spring on Wednesday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Margaret are asked to be made to the VFW Post 5343, 6 East Delaware Parkway, Villas, NJ 08251 (609-886-3488).

Norbury, James Ross

James Ross Norbury, passed away on Wednesday, June 15th, at Crest Haven Nursing Center. Ross was born and raised in Green Creek, and lived his entire life in the home where he was born. He attended Middle Twp. Public schools, and graduated from M.T.H.S. in the class of 1943.

Ross was a builder by trade, starting in the business with his father, as Heath Norbury and Sons.

He was a charter member of the Green Creek Community Church, singing in the choir, serving on the board, Superintendent of Sunday School, and church trustee, for many years. He also helped in building the current church and facilities.

Ross enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and wintering in Florida.

He is survived by three of his eight siblings and a brother-in-law, Vivian Hickman, of Woodstown, Janet and Albert Weeks, and Rodney Norbury, of Green Creek. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, and their children.

Services will be on Monday, June 20th, at the Green Creek Community Church. Viewing at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Green Creek United Methodist cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Green Creek Community Church, P.O. Box 245, Green Creek, N.J. 08219.

Maguire, Eileen

Eileen Maguire, 72, died on June 14, 2011 at her home in Cape May Court House.

Eileen (the former Eileen Timofeeff Ballinghoff) was born in Hamtramck, MI. She graduated from Pershing High School in 1957 and worked for Household Finance Company in Detroit after graduation.

Eileen and her family relocated to Cape May County in 1972. Eileen worked for First National Bank of Stone Harbor, and impressed the County Treasurer with her professionalism. Eileen began work at the Cape May County Treasurer's Office in 1975. She was promoted to Director of Personnel in 1987.

Eileen received her certification as a Certified Public Manager from Rutgers University in 1990. She retired as Human Resources Director in 2006. Eileen was also appointed by the Office of Attorney Ethics of the Supreme Court of New Jersey to the District I Ethics Committee from 1995to 1999, and the District I Fee Arbitration Committee from 2008 to 2009. Eileen was a trained mediator, and served on the Board of Directors of Cape Mediation Services from 2006 to 2009. However, she was most proud of her accomplishments as a mother and wife. Eileen loved to travel the world, dance and go to the casinos as well.

Eileen is survived by her husband Thomas Maguire. She is also survived by daughter Renee (Ballinghoff) Scrocca and her husband Jay of Tuckahoe; her son John Ballinghoff and his wife Debbie of Great Falls, VA; her stepdaughter Monica Maguire of Moorestown, and her stepson Matthew Maguire of Moorestown. She is also survived by grandchildren Joe Scrocca, Jack Ballinghoff, Daniel Maguire and Thomas Maguire. Eileen was predeceased by her husband John Ballinghoff Sr. in 1992.

Eileen's family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses of Holy Redeemer Hospice and Synergy Homecare for their compassionate care during her final weeks.

Friends may call at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 17, 2011. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Of The Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House at 10 a.m. on June 18, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9 North, Swainton NJ 08210 or Love of Linda, P.O. Box 1053, Wildwood, NJ 08260.
