Rosemary Elizabeth Kranyak (nee Jones) of Hammonton, New Jersey, age 74, born June 9, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA, died on October 10, 2009 from cancer. She died peacefully at home surrounded by family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, John S. Kranyak; devoted children, Rosemary E. K. King and her husband Scott T. of Maple Grove, MN, Karen Hallahan Kranyak of Brigantine, NJ, and John Thomas Kranyak of Columbus, OH; adoring grandsons, Michael Scott King and David Thomas King. Mrs. Kranyak was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Thomas (H.T.) Jones and Rosemary Hallahan Jones, and brother Thomas Shade Jones.
Raised in Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd, PA, Rosemary was a 1953 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic Girls' High School. She studied at the Moore College of Art and Design. Mrs. Kranyak was a gifted artist who, as a young woman, did artwork for the American Red Cross, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Burroughs Corporation, Wanamaker's, Westinghouse and many other Philadelphia area establishments.
In 1964 she married John Stanley Kranyak of Chester, PA and the couple moved to Hammonton, NJ where Mrs. Kranyak continued her passion for art by volunteering her talents to St. Joseph Schools, the Catholic Church and other charities and civic organizations. Many will remember her help at St. Joe with costumes, stage sets, the Mummers Parade float, lettering and painting the buttons, programs and materials for school events, and her calligraphy works, many of which still hang throughout St. Joseph Elementary School today.
Rosemary fostered a love of the arts and sciences, and a love of creating art in her children and grandchildren, always encouraging personal style through her guidance and teachings. Her artwork never had a limit. She spent her summers at Brigantine Beach, NJ, where her sand sculptures were admired by many!
Rosemary was the gracious, generous and loving matriarch of her family. An elegant and gentle woman with an intense curiosity for learning, she brought joy, love, and wisdom to everyone she met. She lived with cancer with the same optimism, inner strength, and vitality that were the hallmarks of her life. Rosemary, who brought so much beauty and genuine love to us all, will be deeply missed by her family and many dear friends. Her legacy lives on in our hearts.
