PHELPS, JOSEPH F., 70 - went home to be with his Lord on September 25, 2003 at Sea Crest Village Nursing Home, Little Egg Harbor Twp. Mr. Phelps was born in Camden and resided in Northfield and Atlantic County most of his life. He was a current resident of Atlantic City. He was an Insurance Sales Representative for the Prudential Co. in Linwood for 12 years prior to his retirement. He was a Graduate of Holy Spirit High School Class of 1952. He attended the Philadelphia College of the Bible for two years. He was a hard working loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his five children and their families. Mr. Phelps is survived by his dearly loved wife of 50 years Dorothy, nee Andrews, sons Joseph Jr. (Cheryl) of Waterford CT, Stephen of Waterford CT, William (Cindi) of Wenonah, daughters Joan (Peter) Deckman of Manahawkin, and Dorothy (Bradley) Heaney of Saratoga CA, his brother Michael (Lois) Phelps of National Park and sisters Marguerite (Tom) Hurry of FL and Agnes Butler of Silver Springs, MD, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict from 1953 - 1955 in the US Army. A Service of Memorial and tribute for his life will be held Saturday October 4 at 11 a.m. at the Baptist Tabernacle Church, Redbank & Hessin Streets in Thourofare. At the completion of the services a luncheon will be served at the Adelphia Restaurant, 1750 Clements Ave., Deptford. Services have been entrusted to the Maxwell Funeral Home, Manahawkin. Memorials are being requested to your local Humane Society.
MAROTTA, MARIA "MRS. TONY MART" - September 26, 1918 to September 27, 2003.
Known to many friends and business associates as the wife of the famous nightclub owner, Tony Mart, Maria "Mary" Marotta passed away at the Crozer-Chester Hospital on Saturday, September 27, 2003. Mary was born and raised in the Ducktown section of Atlantic City where she met Anthony Marotta, an immigrant from Sicily who came to Atlantic City through New York to meet several friends and families who had also came to Atlantic City from Sicily.
She was the daughter of Concetta Ventura Basile, and Natalie Basile and resided on Blake Street in Atlantic City before she met and married Anthony Marotta and moved to Somers Point in 1944 when the couple acquired, what was then known as "Schick's Tavern" on Bay Ave. Prior to acquiring the land on Bay Ave. that ultimately became the famous nightclub, Tony Marts, Mary worked with Tony as a sandwich girl at their luncheonette that was located on the boardwalk at Columbia Place where Trump Plaza now stands.
She was a classic Italian American woman, and known as a phenomenal cook who prepared huge meals for several generations of managers and employees of Tony Mart's.
She is survived by her brother, Anthony Basile, owner of the world famous White House Sub Shop in Atlantic City, and her sister Lena Capone, who resides with her daughter, Elsia, in Broward County, Florida. She is predeceased by a brother Peter Basile, of Atlantic City. Mary Marotta leaves three surviving children; her daughter, Catina who resides in Somers Point, her son Carmen, and his wife Nancy, also residing in Somers Point, and her son, Anthony (Tony Mart, Jr.), residing in Tucson, AZ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point. Visitation will be held at the Church from 10:00 a.m., until time of the Mass. Burial will be at the Atlantic City cemetery in Pleasantville.

McGRAW, HELEN M., 92 - died Sunday, October 5, 2003. Formerly of North Wildwood, she resided in Annandale. While living in North Wildwood, she was active in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was the wife of the late Leo McGraw and mother to the late, Richard P. McGraw. Surviving are a daughter, Carol and her husband, Dan, of Annandale; a daughter-in-law, Linda, of North Wildwood; a brother, Paul Mayer, of Oaklyn; and a sister, Emily Dry, of Harleysville, PA. She was the cherished grandmother of Richie, Danny, Lyndsay, Adam, Douglas, and Drew. she was the loving great-grandmother of Adam Richard.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend the services for Helen McGraw on Saturday, Octob4er 11, 2003 at 11:00, in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2810 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood. Calling time is from 10:00-11:00. Burial will follow at Cold Springs Presbyterian cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be given to the church.
BEEBE, JOSHUA "JOSH", 13 - of Millville, beloved son of Dawn and Bruce Beebe, went to be with the Lord on Sunday. Josh, who had just turned 13 in August was an 8th grade student at Millville Memorial.
Josh loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed off road motorcycling.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Colby at home; paternal grandmother, Lillian Beebe of Millville, maternal grandparents, Louis and Doris Clendaniel of Millville; uncles, Larry and Dave Beebe of Millville and Louis and Jill Clendaniel of Tampa, Florida; cousins, Kyle, Merrin, Tara, Larry and Brian.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Rocap Shannon Memorial Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant cemetery
D'AUGOSTINE, JAMES V., 85 - of East Vineland, died Saturday afternoon at home after a brief illness. Born in Rosenhayn and raised in Vineland, Jim graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School. He was one of eleven children born to the late Russell & Josephine Danna D'Augostine. He was pre-deceased by his son Bernard in 1997.
Before retiring in 1981, Jim was employed as a Glassworker for Owens-Illinois Kimble Glass Co. in Vineland for 35 years. He also operated his farm on Oak Road. for many years. Jim was a US Army veteran of W.W.II. He enjoyed both hunting & fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Josephine (Asaro); daughter and son-in-law, Ilene and Dave Perna, Mays Landing; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob D'Augostine, AZ, Pat D'Augostine, CA.
His Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM in the Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 1010 E. Landis Ave., Vineland with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart cemetery. Relatives and Friends will be received on Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Rd., Vineland, and again on Thursday from 8:30-9:30 AM. GANDY, KATHERINE M. (NEE CAMAROTE) 81 - of Newport, died Sunday afternoon October 12, 2003 at The Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Township.
The wife of the late Joseph Gandy Jr., who died in 1999, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Pauline Berner Camarote. A lifelong Bridgeton area resident, she was born in Bridgeton and graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1941. Mrs. Gandy lived in Newport since 1978 and prior to that lived in Bridgeton.
She worked as a waitress several years ago at the former Cumberland Hotel and also at Fiorani's Town Tavern Restaurant in Bridgeton.
Mrs. Gandy was a member of the Newport Baptist Church and attended the Cedarville Senior Center. She was also active at the Newport Senior Center. Several years ago she was a volunteer at Bridgeton Little League. In addition, she was an avid reader and she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and crocheting.
She is survived by four children, John A. Nichols and his wife Joanne of Upper Deerfield Twp., James L. Nichols and his wife Joyce of Cedarville, Cynthia J. Sloan and her husband Bruce of Hopewell Twp. and Jay Joseph Gandy III and his wife Judi of Hopewell Township; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Smith in 1999 and all her brothers and sisters, Michael, Charles, James and Walter Camarote, Theresa Peterson, Anna Cramer, Pauline Camarote and Margaret Myers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 16 at 2 o'clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Pastor Michael Pangburn of the Calvary Baptist Church of Bridgeton officiating.
The interment will take place at Cedar Hill cemetery in Cedarville.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday afternoon one hour prior to the services.

BANCHERI, CALOGERO - of Cologne (formerly of Atlantic City) went home to be with the Lord at sundown on Saturday, October 18, 2003 following a battle with a sudden case of encephalitis.
Calogero was born in Delia, Caltanissetta, Sicily, Italy on August 6, 1925. In 1963 he and his wife Angela and three small children emigrated to the U.S. He did this to afford his family a better life and pursue the American dream. Calogero loved America and instilled in his children a true love of this country while preserving their Italian heritage. Calogero and his wife Angela raised their children in the Ducktown area of Atlantic City in the shadow of St. Michaels Church. They were always very active in the St. Michaels Parish and when they move to Cologne they were involved in the Assumption Church of Pomona as well.
Calogero, "Charlie" as most folks called him, was actively involved in the Circolo Delia and the Italian Center Social Circle. He was also proud of being a member of Local 415. He worked extremely hard as a concrete laborer with Fabi Concrete and Feriozzi Concrete contributing much labor in building the casinos in Atlantic City. Calogero loved working with his hands. He was an awesome gardener who transformed four acres of pine brush into a beautiful orchard of 100 plus fruit trees, many grape vines and a bountiful luscious vegetable garden. Most falls he pressed his own grapes for an excellent wine.
Calogero loved his family, his friends, the Lord and his country. His wish was that we would all have respect for one another. His favorite words echo with us all -"God Bless America!".
He is predeceased by his son Vincent and daughter-in-law Debbie. Calogero was a loving and loyal husband to his wife of 48 years, Angela, who survives him. He is also survived by two sons; Joseph Bancheri and wife Natalie of Smithville and Steve Bancheri and wife Mindy of Northfield, three daughters; Josephine Mellon and husband Kevin of Mays Landing, Luigia McFarland and husband John of Mays Landing and Grace Dorn and husband Matt of Massachusetts, 12 grandchildren; Christina, Vincent Jr., Tina, Joey, Tammy, Diana, Jennifer, Breanna, Christopher, Leah, Luke and Julia.
The Funeral Mass for Calogero Bancheri will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2003, at St Michael's Church, 10 North Mississippi Avenue. Friends may call from 9 a.m. at the Church. Rite of Committal will be in Atlantic City cemetery where he will be entombed. RUSSELL, JR., BRUCE W. "BURR" 29 - of Winslow Township on Saturday, October 18, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident.
Born in Voorhees, formerly of Atco, Burr has been a resident of Winslow Twp. for the past 13 years. He was a graduate of Edgewood High School in 1992. He was a co-owner of Russell's Pic II on the White Horse Pike in Winslow Twp. He played Semi-Pro Ice Hockey in Wyoming and coached youth and high school ice hockey. His hobbies included traveling, dining, movies, casinos, golfing and was an avid sports fan.
Beloved son of Bruce W., Sr. and Sandra Russell. Dear brother of Heather (Shawn) Gudauskas. Loving grandson of Charlotte Kimley. Loving uncle of Larry and Garrett. Very special friend of Elizabeth Runner. Also surviving are his many relatives and friends.

HERMANN, JR., JACK ROY "JAY", 51, of Egg Harbor Township, passed away on June 15, 2002 at the Burdette Tomlin Hospital in Cape May Court House. He was born in Somers Point. He was a lifelong area resident.
He was a clammer and he also enjoyed welding.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara and is also survived by his three children: Barbara Hermann of Egg Harbor Township, Shelly Hermann of Las Vegas, NV and Sonday Posnansky and her husband Steve of Egg Harbor Township; his mother, Mae (Carmen) Hermann of Egg Harbor Township; his predeceased father, Jack Roy Hermann Sr.; six grandchildren; four brothers, Paul Hermann and his wife Tracy, Gary Hermann, Mark Hermann and his wife Joanne and David Hermann, all of Egg Harbor Township; two sisters, Katherine D'Arpe and Terry Hermann, both of Lady Lake, FL; 13 nieces and nephews; his truly great friend, Jim Daisey and his dog, Jack.

KEAVENEY, JR., WILLIAM P., 75, of Sea Isle City, died early Monday morning at the Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William P., Sr. and Margaret (Martino) Keaveney.
William was a graduate of St. Joseph's Preparatory School, he was also a graduate of the Class of 1950 from St. Joseph's University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He later served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. For 23 years, William owned and operated Keaveney's Bar and Restaurant of Philadelphia. After which he was employed by the Claridge Hotel and Casino of Atlantic City for 21 years, several of which he served as the head bartender, retiring in 2002. A summer resident of Sea Isle City for many years, he moved here permanently in 1971.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Catherine (nee: Livingston); his two sons, William and Patrick; his two daughters, Christine and Jane; his grandson, Joshua and his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and William Rawls.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Joseph's RC Church, 44th and Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City, where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. The Interment will be made at the Cape May County Veteran's cemetery, Cape May Court House. HALL-FEARCE, DORIS 80 of Atlantic City died at the Atlantic City Medical Center Mainland Division on May 23 2002 Born in Atlantic City Doris moved to New York City sometime after high school and worked for Bell Telephone for more than a decade. Returning to Atlantic City Doris continued working for Bell Telephone (Verizon) until her retirement.
Doris leaves to cherish her memory: a sister Kathryn Cooke; a brother Stanley Hall; a daughter-in-law Frances Hall; and a host of nieces nephews grand and great grandchildren.
