Dora Wimbush
Dora Irene Wimbush, 66, of Roselle died June 4 in Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Born in Henderson, N.C., Mrs. Wimbush lived in Roselle fro 41 years. She was a machine operator at National Tool and Die Co., Kenilworth, for 20 years. Mrs. Wimbush was a member of the choir at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Roselle.
Surviving are three sons, Belden, Jerry and Bengee; two daughters, Shontae and Sherri; four brothers, Charles, Ellis, Walter and Larry Durham; four sisters, Lelia Brown, Alberta Jefferson, Rosa Jennings and Vivian Joseph, and eight grandchildren.
Nelson Rodriguez
Nelson Rodriguez, 22, of Roselle died June 5 in St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Rodriguez lived there before moving to Roselle three years ago. He was a courier for the Suburban News, Clark, for the past two years.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Blanca and Jolver Machuca; his father and stepmother, Nelson and Sandra Rodriguez; four brothers, Nelson Cruz Guevara, Victor Guardado, Anthony Rodriguez and Jolver Machca; a sister, Michelle Rodriguez, and his grandparents, Maria Guardado and Fermina Gonzalez.
Suzanna Brennan
Suzanna E. Brennan, 56, of Linden died June 5 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. Brennan lived in Linden for most of her life. She was a kitchen supervisor for Meals-on-Wheels, Linden, for 21 years.
Surviving are her husband of 26 years, Frank G.; two stepsons, William and Daniel; a stepdaughter, Theresa Brennan; her mother, Anna Galuppo; a brother, Angelo Galuppo, and a sister, Lorraine Romano.
M. dos Anjos Marques
Maria dos Anjos Marques, 96, of Howell, formerly of Linden, owner of stores in Linden and Elizabeth, died June 7 at home.
Born in Vila Boa de Mondego, Portugal, Mrs. dos Anjos Marques came to Elizabeth and lived in Linden and Colonia before moving to Howell two years ago. She owned Joe’s Poultry Market, Linden, for many years with her late husband, Jose, before retiring in 1967.
Earlier, they owned a deli and convenience store in Elizabeth. Mrs. dos Anjos Marques was a member of the Portuguese Instructive Social Club and its affiliate, Portuguese Old Youth, in Elizabeth.
Surviving are three sisters, Rosaria Veiga-Lourenco, Anna Veiga-Louro and Amelia Veiga Branco.
Winifred Roemmele
Winifred K. Roemmele, 91, of Clark, formerly of Linden, died June 6 at home.
Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Roemmele lived in Linden for 20 years before moving to Clark five years ago. She was a press operator with Gemex Co., Union, for 20 years before retiring many years ago. Mrs. Roemmele was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Irvington.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise O’Neil; a son, Charles V. Jr.; two sisters, Mable Reeves and Ruth may; five brothers, William, Robert, Manfred, Richard and Donald Manrodi; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Alice Madden
Alice E. Madden, 94, of Linden died June 9 in the Genesis ElderCare, Westfield.
Born in New York City, Mrs. Madden lived in Linden for six years. She was a telephone operator for AT&T in Brooklyn for 35 years before retiring in 1977.
Surviving are two daughters, Carole Orleman and Alice R. Flandrup; two sons, William F. and Robert E.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Donata DiFede
Donata M. “Donna” DiFede, 88, of Rahway died June 9 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Staten Island, Mrs. DiFede lived in Rahway since 1972. She was a seamstress at Maidenform Co., Bayonne, for 30 years before retiring in 1975.
Surviving are a son, Salvatore J.; a daughter, Vivienne Rinelli; a sister, Beatrice Marino, and two grandchildren.
Joan Chapin
Joan Chapin, 78, a lifelong resident of Rahway, died June 12 in the Manor Care Nursing Home, Mountainside.
Mrs. Chapin received a bachelor’s degree in French from Douglass College, New Brunswick, in 1949 and her master’s degree in library science from Rutgers University in 1969. She was a member of the Merchants and Drovers Tavern Association, Rahway, and the Association of University Women at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Mrs. Chapin was a founding member of the “Save the Theater” group dedicated to preserving the Union County Arts Center in Rahway.
Surviving are a son, Paul; a daughter, Rebecca Oakes; a sister, Marie Barcaly, and three grandchildren.
Veronica Paterek

Veronica “Ronnie” Paterek, 86, of Linden died June 10 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. Paterek moved to Linden 50 years ago.
Surviving are two sons, John and Raymond; a sister, Ceil Bratkowski; four brothers, Leon, Adam, Joseph and John Cioban, and four grandchildren.
Jamesetta Robinson
Jamesetta Robinson, 63, of Linden died June 14 in the Barbara E. Cheung Memorial Hospice, Edison.
Born in South Carolina, Mrs. Robinson lived in Linden for 33 years. She was an assembler with Economy Color Card, Roselle, for 20 years.
Surviving are her husband, Huey; three sons, Brandon and Huey Robinson and Darren Blakney; a daughter, Shalonda Robinson; a brother, Billy Blakney; two sisters, Mildred Arnold and Louise Reed, and three grandchildren.
Irmgard Damerau
Irmgard W. Damerau, 97, of Linden died June 14 at home.
Born in Germany, Mrs. Damerau emigrated to the United States in 1925 and lived in Brooklyn before moving to Linden 73 years ago.
Surviving are two daughters, Delores I. Wolf and Joyce I. Wright; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Elsie Macintyre
Elsie F. MacIntyre, 91, of Linden died June 15 in Overlook Hospital, Summit.
Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. MacIntyre lived in Linden since 1947. She was a salesperson for Steinbach’s Department Store, Elizabeth, for 15 years before retiring in 1880.
Surviving are a daughter, Diane, and a sister, Dolores Groppe.
Edward Hering
Edward H. Hering, 82, of Linden died June 14 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Bayonne, Mr. Hering moved to Linden 70 years ago. He was a maintenance man for Anchor Motor, Linden, for many years before retiring in 1986. Mr. Hering was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 469 in Hazlet. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served with the 501st Bomb Group, 485th Bomb Squadron on Guam. Mr. Hering served as the Northeast director of the 315th Bomb Wing Association.
Surviving are his wife, Alyce; a brother, Richard, and a sister, Eleanor Nelson.
Shirley Wittke
Shirley A. Wittke, 69, a lifelong resident of Rahway, died June 14 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway.
Mrs. Wittke was a cost control manager for J.M. Huber Co., Edison, for 20 years before retiring in 2002. She also was employed by Woolworth Five and Dime Store in Rahway and Menlo Park for 20 years. Mrs. Wittke was a greeter on Sundays at the New Dover United Methodist Church, Edison, where she also served on the weekly flea market committee. She crocheted many afgans as donations for the Linus Program for Chronic and Terminally Ill Children at Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Herbert H.; a daughter, Debbie Boyle; two sons, Greg and Herbert; three sisters, Charlotte Nickell, Hope Dingfeld and Sue Wright, and two grandchildren.
Mary Spellman
Mary E. Spellman, 93, of Westfield, formerly of Roselle, a retired teacher in Roselle schools, died June 15 at home.
Born in Haverhill, Mass., Mrs. Spellman lived in Roselle before moving to Westfield in 1979. She was an elementary teacher in various schools in Roselle, where she began the Head Start Program, before retiring in 1975. Mrs. Spellman was a 1935 graduate of Bridgewater State Teachers College in Massachusetts and a member of the Westfield Woman’s Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Sperling and Elaine K. Spellman; three sons, John H., D. Andrew and Philip E., and 15 grandchildren.
Mary Gillis
Mary Louise Gillis, 72, of Linden, formerly of Roselle, died June 14 in Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.
Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. Gillis lived in Roselle before moving to Linden four years ago. She was a dietitian at the Jefferson Park Day Care Center, Elizabeth, for 19 years before retiring in 1993. Mrs. Gillis was a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
Surviving are a son, Stanley Mitchell; three daughters, Barbara Mitchell, Elaine Thomas and Darlene Washington; two brothers, Leroy and Richard Taylor; a sister, Dorothy Williams; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Louis Scotto
Louis Scotto, 80, of Rahway died June 16 at home.
Born in Staten Island, Mr. Scotto lived in Elizabeth and Colonia before moving to Rahway this year. He was a production papermaker at Engelhard Corp., Elizabeth, for 20 years before retiring in 1986.
Surviving are his wife, Eileen; two sons, James and Michael; a daughter, Sharon Sortizza; a sister, Anne Brown, and five grandchildren.
Tawana Whetstone
Tawana M. Whetstone, 38, of Roselle died June 15 in Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.
Born in Jersey City, Miss Whetstone moved to Roselle eight years ago. She was a self-employed accountant.
Surviving are a son, David; a daughter, Shadonna; her mother, Patricia Baskerville; her father, Nathaniel Whetstone; her stepfather, Donald Baskerville; two brothers, Nathaniel and Michael Whetstone; a sister, Donnette Whetstone; a stepbrother, Ishmael Coleman, and a grandchild.
Hazel Ference
Hazel Ference, 78, of Rahway died June 15 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Ference lived in Rahway since 1959. She was a member of the Rahway Junior Service League.
Surviving are a son, Frank Jr.; two daughters, Linda Colgan and Kathleen Konops; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
