John Roberson
John E. Roberson, 63, of Linden died March 4 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Durham, N.C., Mr. Roberson lived in Roselle before moving to Linden in 1966. He was a courier at the Choice Courier Co., New Brunswick, for 10 years. Earlier, Mr. Roberson was a machinist at Reynolds Metls Co., Woodbridge, for 15 years. He served in the Army during peacetime.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Joyce; two sons, Derrell and Marcellaus; a daughter, Tia Johnson; a brother, Alexander; four sisters, Catherine Lewis, Lorena McAllister, Louise Allen and Lula Linder; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Barbara Dureka
Barbara B. Dureka, 99, of Linden died March 6 at home.
Born in Blairsville, Pa., Miss Dureka lived in Linden for many years. She worked in inventory control at Singer Sewing Machine Co., Elizabeth, for 30 years before retiring in 1984.
Surviving is a brother, Paul.
Anita Smith
Anita J. Smith, 81, a lifelong resident of Linden, died March 10 in the Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Smith was a clerk for the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles in Rahway for 20 years before retiring in 1991. Earlier, she was a crossing guard for the city of Linden of seven years. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Women’s Guild at the Reformed Church of Linden.
Surviving are her husband of 46 years, George; two daughters, Donna Zawatsky and Kathy Leff; three sons, Robert Gonor, a former Linden city council president; Kevin Gonor and James Smith; a sister, Elizabeth Wager; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Charles Crowell
Charles E. Crowell, 85, a lifelong resident of Rahway, died March 9 in the Southern Ocean Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Manahawkin.
Mr. Crowell was a draftsman for Fellows Read Weber Inc., Toms River, for many years before retiring in 1987. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Crowell was a member of the American Legion Post 5 and the Knights of Columbus Council 1146, both in Rahway.
He was a councilman for the 5th Ward of Rahway from 1964 to 1968 and a councilman-at-large in Rahway from 1970 to 1974. Mr. Crowell was a past president of the St. Mary’s Holy Name Society in Rahway and the St. Francis Holy Name Society on Long Beach Island.
Surviving are two sons, Charles E. and James R.; two daughters, Marjorie Caulfield and Maureen Abrams; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Rohelito Villanueva
Rohelito Villanueva, 18, of Rahway, formerly of Linden, died March 8 in Rahway.
Born in the Philippines, Mr. Villanueva lived in Linden before moving to Rahway six years ago. He was a junior at Rahway High School.
Surviving are his mother, Normita Badenas; his father, Roger Villanueva; two brothers, Ronelio and Rodelio, and a sister, Maria Theresa.
Anna Grablachoff
Anna Grablachoff, 92, of Rahway died March 12 at home.
Born in Embroa, Macedonia, Mrs. Grablachoff lived in Tarrytown, N.Y., and Iselin before moving to Rahway 58 years ago. She was a self-employed caterer for more than 50 years. At the age of 75, Mrs. Grablachoff received a bachelor’s degree in urban and outdoor recreation from Kean University, Union. She was a volunteer at Rutgers Extension Service in Westfield and a member of the American Persons Chapter 607 in Rahway.
Surviving are two sons, Frank and Victor; a daughter, Joann Merrick; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
J.A. Carter-Baskerville
Julia Ann Carter-Baskerville, 52, of Linden, formerly of Roselle, died March 10 in the JFK Hartwyck Nursing Home at Oaktree, Edison.
Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. Carter-Baskerville lived in Roselle before moving to Linden five years ago. She was a teacher at the Gray Charter School in Newark for two years and before that, she was a teacher at Montclair High School for a year. Mrs. Carter-Baskerville was a 2002 graduate of Kean University, Union. She received a bachelor’s degree in education.
Surviving are a daughter, Kimberly Shepard; a son, Jermaine Baskerville; four brothers, William, Charles, Richard and Gregory Carter; two sisters, Marion Dortch and Diane Fullman, and a grandchild.
Frank Reksc
Frank A. Reksc, 80, of Linden died March 11 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Reksc lived there before moving to Linden more than 50 years ago. He was a truck driver for the Department of Public Works, Linden, for 30 years before retiring in 1988. Mr. Reksc was a Navy veteran of World War II. He served on the USS Decker. Mr. Reksc was a member of the American Legion Post 0102, Linden.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Dorothy; three daughters, Susan Caliguari, Linda Spano and Donna Weber, and seven grandchildren.
Marie Tagliaboschi
Marie L. Tagliaboschi, 94, of Linden died March 10 in the Delaire Nursing Home, Linden.
Born in Anagni, Italy, Mrs. Tagliaboschi came to Newark in 1921 and moved to Linden in 1950.
Surviving are a son, Lawrence R.; a daughter, Barbara Sabat; a brother, Albert Scarselletta; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Richard Plinio
Richard Plinio, 41, of Hillside died Feb. 25 in University Hospital, Newark.
Born in Sayreville, Mr. Plinio moved to Hillside 16 years ago. He was a stockbroker with Gunnellen Financial, Hazlet. In 1985, Mr. Plinio received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
He was an avid bowler and played with both the Thursday Mixed Nuts and the Joe HRYC Pro Shop Scratch Trios leagues at Mid-State Bowl in East Brunswick.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Clara M.; a daughter, Cristina V.; a son, Matthew L.; a sister, Ann Deavenport, and a brother, Anthony.
Helen Fogler
Helen Fogler, 84, of Union died Feb. 12 at home.
Born in the Ironbound section of Newark, Mrs. Fogler moved to Union 29 years ago. She was a clerk at Munches for many years before retiring 34 years ago. Mrs. Fogler also was a seamstress at Century Gloves, Newark, for five years.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph, Richard and Lawrence; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Lawrence Rosello
Lawrence S. Rosello, 78, of Roselle Park died Feb. 14 in Overlook Hospital, Summit.
Born in Newark, Mr. Rosello moved to Roselle Park 41 years ago. He was a receiving foreman for Drakes Bakery in Irvington and Wayne for 37 years and retired in 1993. Mr. Rosello was an Army veteran and served during World War II and in Korea.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9119, the American Legion, the Welfare and Human Resource Board and the Retired Associates, a former Cub Scout and Webelos leader for Cub Scout Pack 54 and a former Democratic District leader, all of Roselle Park.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine; a son, Lawrence F.; a daughter, Janine Kaulfers; a brother, Mario; a sister, Millie Fiorentino, and five grandchildren.
Agostinho Valente
Agostinho T. Valente, 43, of Hillside died Feb. 14 in University Hospital, Newark.
Born in Estarreija, Aveiro, Portugal, Mr. Valente lived in the Ironbound section of Newark for 20 years before moving to Hillside seven years ago. He worked for the Construction Laborers Union Local 472 in Newark for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Anna, and three sons, Michael, Richard and Brian.
Chaim Krajcman
Chaim Krajcman, 85, of Union died Feb. 16 in the Care One, Livingston.
Born in Kalish, Poland, Mr. Krajcman lived in Israel and Elizabeth before moving to Union 27 years ago. He was a warehouse manager for Halper Brothers, Elizabeth, before moving to Union 27 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Pola; three daughters, Marsha Buchwald, Roslyn Covello and Ruth Ringler, and eight grandchildren.
Marjorie Ressler
Marjorie M. Ressler, 79, of Union died Feb. 16 in St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston.
Born in orange, Mrs. Hessler lived in Hillside for 10 years and Orange before moving to Union many years ago.
She was a nutrionist aide for the Union County Senior Nutrition Program in the Union County Senior Center, Hillside, for 20 years and retired in 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Frederick and Conrad; three daughters, Linda Alcorn, Debra Silva and Marjorie Glurlay; three sisters, Mary Battista, Lucy Bonanno and Rosemarie Corbe; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Joseph Spampinato
Joseph Spampinato, 80, of Union died Feb. 6 in Union Hospital.
Born in Newark, Mr. Spampinato lived in Irvington before moving to Union 40 years ago.
He was a laborer affiliated with the New Jersey Building Laborers Union in Newark for 20 years before retiring. Earlier, Mr. Spampinato was a butcher at the Pathmark, Belleville, and a self-employed butcher in the Newark area. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Spampinato was a member of the Elks Lodge 1583 in in Union.
Surviving are a daughter, Loretta Rake; a sister, Grace Van Note, and two grandchildren.
John E. Sievers
John E. Sievers, 50, of Roselle Park, formerly of Union, died Feb. 5 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Born in Newark, Mr. Sievers lived in Union before moving to Roselle Park 21 years ago. He worked in the real estate industry for many years, most recently, at Weichert Commercial Realty, Woodbridge, for two years.
Mr. Sievers received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Kean University, Union, in 1978. He was involved with the Roselle Park Youth Baseball League.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Eileen; a son, Christopher; two daughters, Nicole and Jessica, and three sisters, Joanne Levendusky, Patricia Lorusso and Linda.
Helene Zorn
Helene E. Zorn, 86, of Union died Feb. 8 in Union Hospital.
Born in Germany, Mrs. Zorn lived in Union for many years.
She was a jeweler at Binder Brothers, New York City, for 20 years and retired in 1972.
Surviving are a son, Werner; two daughters, Kathy Dambres and Lilo Wolfe; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
