Mary Wysocki
Mary G. Wysocki, 82, of Elizabeth died Feb. 25 in Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.
Born in Birmingham, England, Mrs. Wysocki settled in Elizabeth 60 years ago. She was a sunshine girl at Singer Co., Elizabeth, before retiring. Prior to that, Mrs. Wysocki had worked at Evan’s Rule, Elizabeth, and American Can Co., Hillside. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Elizabeth Post 91 of the Polish Legion of American Veterans.
Surviving are two daughters, Pauline Serrante and Joanne Wysocki, and three grandchildren.
Barbara Frank
Barbara A. Frank, 52, of Linden died Feb. 28 in Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.
Born in Camp Kilmer, Mrs. Frank lived in Roselle before moving to Linden in 1978. She was a master probation officer for the state of New Jersey in Elizabeth, where she worked for 29 years. Mrs. Frank was a 1976 graduate of Trinity College, Washington, D.C., where she received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She was a member of the Probation Officers of New Jersey. Mrs. Frank was a former Boy Scout master with Troop 32 in St. Elizabeth Church, Linden.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Albert; two sons, Jason and Stephen, and her mother, Nancy Wolan.
Emil Vatter
Emil C. Vatter, 63, a lifelong resident of Roselle, died Feb. 26 in University Hospital, Newark.
Mr. Vatter was an engineer with Bethlehem Steel, Dunellen, for 18 years before retiring in 1981. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. Mr. Vatter was a member of the Mason Cornerstone Lodge 229 in Linden.
Surviving are a daughter, Tahitha Miakar; two sons, Emil Jr. and Daniel, and three grandchildren.
Betty Colby
Betty L. Colby, 75, of Roselle died Feb. 28 in the home of her daughter, Cathleen Carolan, in Rahway.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., Mrs. Colby lived in Irvington before moving to Roselle 40 years ago. She was the manager of the snack bar at Bradlee’s in Clark for many years before retiring in 1999.
Also surviving are her husband of 56 years, Charles R.; another daughter, Marjorie Haba; three brothers, a sister, seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Chester Kloepfer
Chester Kloepfer, 88, of Linden died March 1 in Overlook Hospital, Summit.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Kloepfer lived in Linden for 56 years. He was a shipping clerk for Aluminum Co., Mountainside, for 21 years before retiring in 1982.
Mr. Kloepfer was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific for three years.
He was an ordained deacon and assisted with the LPC Mission Project at the Linden Presbyterian Church for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Susan and Pamela; a son, Andrew, and two grandchildren.
Monica Plungis
Monica R. Plungis, 95, of Linden died March 2 at home.
Born in Witherbee, N.Y., Mrs. Plungis lived in Clark for 19 years before moving to Linden 74 years ago.
She was a member of the Rosary Society of St. John the Apostle Church, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Social Seven Club, all in Linden. Mrs. Plungis also was president of the Linden Parent-Teachers Association at both School 3 and the high school.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan Lyons; a son, Bernie Jr.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Vito Gallicchio
Vito Gallicchio, 63, of Elizabeth died March 3 in the Cornell Hall Nursing and Convalescent Center, Union.
Born in Vallata, Italy, Mr. Gallicchio came to the United States in 1955 and settled in Elizabeth.
He worked for the city of Elizabeth in the water department for 16 years.
Surviving are his wife, Giuseppina; two daughters, Paula Kaltman and Frances Rosa Gallicchio; a sister, Maria Rosa Gallicchio, and three brothers, Nuncio, Frank and Carmin.
John Stefanick Jr.
John “Rob” Stefanick Jr., 57, of Rahway died March 2 at home.
Born in Rahway, Mr. Stefanick moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1984 and returned to Rahway in 1994. He was a department manager at the Home Depot store in Linden for two years before retiring in 2004. Mr. Stefanick served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 681 in Rahway and a member of the Clark American Legion Post 328. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Post 1146 and the Honorary Police Benevolent Association Chapter 31 in Rahway.
Surviving are a son, Joshua; a brother, Richard, and a sister, Linda Locher.
Stella Lysko
Stella Brostoski Lysko, 93, of Elizabeth died March 1 in Union Hospital.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Lysko lived in Maplewood, South Orange, East Orange, Irvington, Hillside and Kenilworth before moving to Elizabeth 20 years ago. She was a member of the Senior Citizens in Kenilworth. Surviving are two sons, Casimir and Robert Brostoski; a sister, Tillie Sobka; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Raymond Perlitz
Raymond Perlitz, 77, of Linden died March 23 in Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Perlitz lived in Linden since 1959. He was an accounts supervisor at Phelps Dodge Copper Products Co., Elizabeth, where he worked for 41 years before retiring in 1988. Mr. Perlitz was a member of the Linden Knights of Columbus Council 2859.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Josephine; two sons, Robert and Thomas; a daughter, Kathleen Giesco, and nine grandchildren.
Magdalene Tussay
Magdalene G. Tussay, 73, of Rahway died March 2 in the Delaire Nursing Home, Linden.
Born in Ungvar, Hungary, Mrs. Tussay came to the United States in 1949 and lived in New York City, Newark, Elizabeth and Roselle before moving to Rahway many years ago.
Rita Cuevas
Rita Cuevas, 65, a lifelong resident of Elizabeth, died March 1 at home.
Mrs. Cuevas was a teacher’s assistant and employed with the Elizabeth Board of Education for 21 years.
Surviving are her husband, Miguel; two daughters, Karen Marie Rosa and Lisa Marie LaSpata; a son, Tony; a brother, Salvatore Spinella, and eight grandchildren.
Vera Gordon
Vera Gordon, 82, of Linden died March 2 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Erhardt, S.C., Mrs. Gordon lived in Linden for 35 years. She was a self-employed seamstress.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Jacobs and Marilyn Wiggins-Green; a sister, Louise Johnson; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Emanuele Gurrieri
Emanuele Gurrieri, 91, of Elizabeth died March 5 in the Briarwood Nursing Home, South Amboy.
Born in Ragusa, Italy, Mr. Gurrieri came to the United States in 1955 and settled in Elizabeth.
He was a street mechanic for Elizabethtown Gas Co., Union, for 23 years before retiring in 1979.
Surviving are his wife, Rita; a daughter, Giovanna Vescera; a son, Mario; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Edward Mitchell
Edward M. Mitchell, 86, of Roselle died March 4 in Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Mitchell lived in Roselle since 1976. He was the manager of cost estimating at Breeze Inc., Union, where he worked for 45 years before retiring in 1985. Mr. Mitchell joined the company as a tool and die maker.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Charlotte; a son, Mark, and a grandchild.
Andrew Pancurak
Andrew Pancurak, 89, of Waretown, formerly of Linden, died March 4 in Manhawkin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Mahoney City, Pa., Mr. Pancurak lived in Linden for 48 years before moving to Waretown eight months ago. He was a shipping clerk at Robuon Backing Ring Co., Elizabeth, for 24 years before retiring in 1981. Earlier, Mr. Pancurak was a coal miner in Pennsylvania for 16 years. Most recently, he worked at Town Tavern, Linden. Mr. Pancurak was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. George Byzantine Catholic Church and the MOD Club, both in Linden.
Surviving are a son, Andrew J.; two daughters, Virginia M. Adasczik and Carolyn A.; four sisters, Ann Ondek, Elizabeth Wade, Olga Tyburczy and Veronica Bukunas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Herdle Bartee
Herdle L. Bartee, 92, of Rahway died March 4 in the Rahway Geriatrics Center.
Born in Montgomery, Ala., Mr. Bartee lived in East Orange before moving to Rahway in 1956. He worked for Worthington Pump Corp., Harrison, for 25 years before retiring in 1976. Mr. Bartee was a member of the Men’s Club of the Friendship Baptist Church, Rahway.
Surviving is his wife, Annabel.
Rebecca Lanza
Rebecca F. Lanza, 85, of Elizabeth died March 6 in St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Mrs. Lanza came to the United States in 1962 and lived in Newark before moving to Elizabeth in 1978.
Surviving are four daughters, Rebeca V. Trautner, Ninou A. Hardaker, Aimee C. Alfaro and Lia Hempel; a son, Jose L., and nine grandchildren.
Robert Tisdale
Robert H. “Bobby” Tisdale, 74, of Edison, formerly of Elizabeth, coach and athletic director in Elizabeth, died March 2 at JFK Medical Center, Edison.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Tisdale lived in Edison for many years. He was an accomplished coach and athletic director. Mr. Tisdale started his coaching career at Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth, where he coached freshman, junior varsity and varsity basketball and later coached at Rahway High School, Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair and Colonia High School, where he became the athletic director.
During his career, he won six division titles, two state titles and one Middlesex County championship. Among many other rewards, Mr. Tisdale received the New Jersey Inter-scholastic Coaching Association Award. He was inducted into the Elizabeth Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
He received a bachelor of arts degree from Delaware State University and a master of arts degree from Trenton State University. Mr. Tisdale played basketball for Delaware State University and with the Cranford Clippers. He also played in the National YMCA Tournament Team and the National AAU Tournament Team. Mr. Tisdale served in the Army during the Korean War and was selected to play on the Armed Services Tournament Team. He served as president of the Usher Board and taught Youth Sunday School at the Mount Teman AME Church, Elizabeth, and served as a deacon at Mount Carmel Church.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores; a son, Robert Jr.; two daughters, Tracey Moore and Nicole Tisdale; a sister, the Rev. Alicia Cambridge, and two grandchildren.
