Shirley Gillman
Shirley E. Gilman of Clark died Feb. 25 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Gillman lived in Hillside before moving to Clark 30 years ago. She was a bookkeeper for various local companies many years ago. Mrs. Gillman was a member of the Sisterhood of temple Beth Or, Clark.
Surviving are a son, Joel, and a daughter, Wendy Sleppin.
Katherine Maloy
Katherine C. Maloy, 89, of Hackettstown, formerly of Cranford, died Feb. 25 in the House of the Good Shepherd, Hackettstown.
Born in Albany, N.Y., Mrs. Maloy lived in Cranford for 50 years before moving to Hackettstown. She was an officer manager and bookkeeper at the Cranford Hall Nursing Home, Cranford, before retiring.
Surviving are three sons, Dennis, Thomas and Brian; a daughter, Catherine Moreno; three sisters, Loretta Justice, Betty Parker and Mildred Rimmer; two brothers, Alan and Edward Connell; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ralph Thomas Sr.
Ralph H. Thomas Sr., 84, of Clark died Feb. 25 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Thomas moved to Clark 57 years ago. He was the director of packaging for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Hillside, where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 1982. Mr. Thomas received a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York.
He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Thomas served from 1944 to 1946 as an aviation metalsmith first class. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Clark, the American Legion Post 363, South Bound Brook, the Holy Name Society at St. John the Apostle Church, Clark, and the Society of American Inventors.
Surviving are his wife, Genevieve M.; a son, Ralph Jr.; two daughters, Diane Strus and Eileen Leitzell; a brother, Jack; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Gennaro Marciano
Gennaro J. Marciano, 74, of Clark died Feb. 25 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Providence, R.I., Mr. Marciano lived in Wall before moving to Clark 15 years ago. He was a road repairman for the Union County Road Department for 28 years before retiring in 1985. Mr. Marciano was a school crossing guard for the Clark Board of Education. He was a volunteer at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. Mr. Marciano was a member of both the Senior Citizens and the American Association of Retired Persons in Clark.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Joan; a daughter, Gail Grzyb; three sons, Kenneth, Jeffrey and James, and nine grandchildren.
Edith Schirmer
Edith Schirmer, 91, of Cranford died Feb. 27 in Overlook Hospital, Summit.
Born in Hartford, Conn., Mrs. Schirmer lived in Cranford for many years. She was an elementary school teacher in the town of Short Hills before retiring. Before that, Mrs. Schirmer was a secretary for a real estate agency in Newark. She was a graduate of Kean University, Union, where she received a bachelor’s degree in education.
Stanley Trela
Stanley L. Trela, 85, of Clark died Feb. 14 in JFK Medical Center, Edison.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Trela moved to Clark in 1980. He was a security guard for the county of Union, primarily in the rotunda of the Union County Courthouse in Elizabeth for 15 years before retiring in 1987. Earlier, Mr. Trela was a construction laborer for the Laborers International Union of North American Laborers Local 526 in Millburn and a 50-Plus Year gold member of the LUNA Laborers Union Local 593, Hillsborough.
Surviving are his wife, of 65 years, Genevieve; two sons, Stanley L. and Robert E.; a daughter, Carol Ann Reinhard; a brother, John; a sister, Caroline DeMarco; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Maria Squillace
Maria J. Squillace, 71, of Clark died Feb. 27 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Mrs. Squillace came to the United States in 1948 and lived in Quantico, Va., before moving to Clark 36 years ago. She was a volunteer at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway for 35 years.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Gaetano; a son, Guy; a brother, Augustin Jerez; three sisters, Grace Ginesi, Juanita Hamilton and Margaret Debenedictis, and four grandchildren.
Helen Marotta
Helen J. Marotta, 69, of Cranford died Feb. 27 in Union Hospital.
Born in Passaic, Mrs. Marotta lived in Garfield before moving to Cranford 46 years ago. She was a registered nurse for 47 years. Mrs. Marotta was a case manager for 12 years at Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Newark before retiring in 2004. Before that, she was a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital, New York City, and the former St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, now Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth, and at Schering-Plough Corp., Kenilworth.
Mrs. Marotta graduated from Mount Saint Vincent College, Riverdale, N.Y., in 1958, where she received a degree in nursing. She taught CCD classes at St. Michael’s Church, Cranford, and was a member of various nursing service organizations.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald D.; three sons, Ronald M., Robert J. and Thomas W.; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann, and six grandchildren.
William Ryan Sr.
William T. Ryan Sr., 85, of Westfield, formerly of Rahway and Cranford, died Feb. 26 in Overlook Hospital, Summit.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Ryan lived in Rahway for 55 years and Cranford for two years before moving to Westfield. He was a laboratory technician for Exxon Corp., Linden, for 39 years before retiring in 1981. Mr. Ryan served in the Navy during World War II.
Surviving are four daughters, Naureen Bateman, Ellen Shramek, Marylou Schultz and Betty Jane Steitz; five sons, William T. Jr., Joseph, James, Michael and Patrick; a brother, Edward; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Vincent DeMicco
Vincent J. DeMicco, 84, of Berkeley Township, formerly of Cranford, died March 2 at home.
Born in New York City, Mr. DeMicco lived in Elizabeth and Cranford for 38 years before moving to Berkeley Township. He held two full-time jobs for nearly 30 years. Mr. DeMicco worked for his family’s produce business, the State Fruit Market, Elizabeth, for many years. He also worked for Wakefern Food Corp., Elizabeth, where he began working nights as a selector in the company’s produce warehouse. Mr. DeMicco finished his career as chief produce buyer before retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. DeMicco served in Europe.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Helen; 10 sons, Vincent Jr., Daniel, Michael, Andrew, Stephen, Mark, Scott, Christopher, Paul and Rick; four daughters, Dianne Adlassnig, Christine Kugele, Nancy and Karen DeMicco; a brother, Angelo; four sisters, Josephine Prillo, Constance DeRose, Gloria Pasquale and Irene DeRose; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Carmela Cimato
Carmela L. Cimato, 77, of Lakewood, formerly of Clark, died March 2 in the Paul Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Cimato lived in Clark for 50 years before moving to Lakewood three years ago. She was a meat wrapper for Mayfair/Foodtown, Westfield, for 25 years before retiring in 1995. Mrs. Cimato was a member of the AFL-CIO Local 464-A in Little Falls. She also was a member of the Italian-American Club in Roselle and the Rosary Society of St. John the Apostle Church, Clark.
Surviving are her husband, Frank J.; a son, Dr. Frank J. Cimato; a daughter, Mary Ann Wonski; two brothers, Dr. John Primamore and Lou Primamore, and five grandchildren.
Regina Labbate
Regina Labbate, 91, of Cranford died March 3 at home.
Born in Monteferrante, Italy, Mrs. Labbate lived in Cranford since 1968. She was a member of the Ferrantese Club in Cranford.
Surviving are a son, Gino; two daughters, Sabina Massa and Dina Califano; a sister, Philomena Pazienza; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Alan Kaufman
Alan Kaufman, 48, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Cranford, died Feb. 27 at home.
Born in Newark, Mr. Kaufman lived in Hillside and Cranford before moving to Tampa. He was an accountant at C.P. Ships, Tampa. Mr. Kaufman was a graduate of Kean University, Union.
Surviving are his parents, Audrey and Milton Kaufman, and two sisters, Linda Castine and Rhoda Kaufman.
John Weber
John T. Weber, 50, of Carteret, formerly of Clark, died March 2 at home.
Born in Newark, Mr. Weber lived in Clark for 20 years before moving to Carteret seven years ago. He was self-employed and worked in the home improvement industry for the past 20 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Kelly; a son, Jake; his parents, Charlotte and Jack Weber, and three sisters, Janice Ross, Lynda MacDermant and Peggy Weber.
Victoria MacBeth
Victoria MacBeth, 33, of Tinton Falls, formerly of Cranford, died March 3 at home.
Born in Rahway, Mrs. MacBeth lived in Cranford for many years and Little River from 2997 until moving to Tinton Falls in 2003. She became a licensed social worker in 2005. Mrs. MacBeth interned with the child study team at Red Bank Regional High School from 2002 until 2003. Earlier, she managed group homes for the ARC of Morris County and Community Access in Elizabeth. Mrs. MacBeth received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Douglass College at New Brunswick and a master’s degree in social work from Monmouth University in Long Branch.
She was a member of the Monmouth Rugby Club of Red Bank and former president of the women’s rugby team. Mrs. MacBeth also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 2003, she completed the New York Avon Walk for Breast Cancer four months after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce; two daughters, Harleigh Knight and Kelsey Rayn; her mother, Veronica Jacobi; her father, George Knight, and her stepfather, Ralph Jacobi.
Michael Ray
Michael G. Ray, 47, of Cranford died March 5 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.
Born in Rapid City, S.D., Mr. Ray lived in Garwood before moving to Cranford in 1982. He was an engineer for Klingelhofer Corp., Mountainside, for the past 29 years. Mr. Ray was a coach for the Cranford Soccer Club and a volunteer for the New Jersey Youth Pheasant and Quail Hunt.
Surviving are his wife, Maureen; a daughter, Amanda; a son, Brian; his parents, H. Gordon and Shirley Ann Ray; a brother, Darren, and two sisters, Diane Kincaid and Susan Fish.
Sarah Telesco
Sarah Telesco, 76, of Brick, formerly of Clark, died March 6 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Telesco lived in Irvington and Clark before moving to Brick eight years ago. She was a volunteer at the Primary Learning Center at Brick.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Vito; two daughters, Catherine LePore and Maryann Rizzo; a son,William; a sister, Kathleen DeAngelis, and six grandchildren.
Joseph Blaze
Joseph J. Blaze, 88, of Toms River, formerly of Clark, died March 5 in Community Medical Center, Toms River.
Born in New York City, Mr. Blaze lived in Clark before moving to Toms River. He was an engineer for 37 years with New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. in various locations in New Jersey before retiring from the Toms River location in 1978. Mr. Blaze was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a first lieutenant in the Army during World War II in the European Theater.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph J. and Thomas, and two grandchildren.
Katherine Boehm
Katherine T. Boehm, 89, of Clark died March 4 in Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth.
Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. Boehm lived in Plainfield, Iselin, Elizabeth, and Waretown before moving to Clark in 1993. She was a social worker and a volunteer clerical worker at Bayway Exxon Community Center in Elizabeth for many years before retiring. Mrs. Boehm was a member of the Exxon Choristers and a volunteer at the Elizabeth General Medical Center, now Trinitas Hospital.
Surviving are a son, Robert W., and two grandchildren.
