Clara Baier
Clara C. Baier, 100, of Livingston died March 9 in the Merry Heart Nursing Home, Roxbury.
Mrs. Baier was a travel agent for the Globe Travel Agency in East Orange for 10 years and a clerk for the Prudential Insurance Co. for 15 years before retiring.
Surviving are a son, Arthur J. Krozser Sr.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Nathan Appelbaum
Nathan Appelbaum, 84, of East Orange died Feb. 13 in Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston.
Mr. Appelbaum was a bakery driver for Pechters in Harrison and, earlier, Zimmerman’s Bakery in Elizabeth. He worked for 30 years before retiring in 1991.
Mr. Appelbaum served in the National Guard during World War II. He also was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons lodge in Livingston, the Teamsters Local Bakery Drivers in Union and the Men’s Club of Temple B’nai Israel in Livingston.
A Newark native, Mr. Appelbaum lived in East Orange and Irvington before returning to East Orange 25 years ago.
Surviving are a son, Stephen; and a grandchild.
Joan Bailey
Joan Bailey, 69, of Plainfield died Sunday in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, Plainfield.
Mrs. Bailey was a surgical technician at Orange Memorial Hospital, later called the Hospital Center at Orange, for 20 years before retiring four years ago. Prior to that, she worked at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Mrs. Bailey was a church mother, missionary and usher at the Greater Refuge Church of Christ.
Born in the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago, Mrs. Bailey settled in Orange before moving to Plainfield 30 years ago.
Surviving are daughters, Diana Watson, Ancilla Rishmawy and Jacqueline Jefferson; sons, Ronnie Smith, Robert, Vaughn, Glen and Berry Scott; and a sister, Jean Calendar.
Marian Cory
Marian J. Cory, 103, of Lakewood died Feb. 13 in the Harrogate Nursing Home, Lakewood.
Mrs. Cory was a member of the Westfield Women’s Club, the Westfield Historical Society, the Women’s Club at the Westfield Presbyterian Church and the American Red Cross.
Born in Orange, Mrs. Cory lived in North Plainfield and Westfield before moving to Lakewood in 1988.
Surviving are a son, Richard; a sister, Carolyn Wallace; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Renee Fernandez
Renee Ines Fernandez, 61, of Orange died Feb. 13 in St. Michael’s Medical Center, Newark.
Mrs. Fernandez worked in the maintenance department of Novartis Pharmaceuticals, East Hanover, for the past 12 years. Born in Uruguay, she came to Orange 30 years ago.
Surviving are her husband, Nedo; a son, Ruben; sisters, Ana, Maria, Dora, Christina and Alba; and a brother, Adolfo.
Frank Marucci Sr.
Frank D. Marucci Sr., 75, of Eatontown died Feb. 13 in the Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, Fla.
Mr. Marucci was a partner for Marbro of West Long Branch for many years. He also served in the Army during peacetime.
Recognized on several all-state and all-metropolitan high-school football teams as a player, Mr. Marucci was a graduate of Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pa., and attended Seton Hall University Law School and the Newark College of Engineering.
Born in Orange, he lived in West Long Branch before moving to Eatontown nine years ago.
Surviving are Francine, his wife of 50 years; sons, Frank Jr. and Joseph; a daughter, Rosemarie Morello; brothers, Salvatore and Anthony; sisters, Sally Ricci and Ruth Ann Marucci; and seven grandchildren.
Nicholas De Finis
Nicholas A. De Finis, 70, of East Hanover died Feb. 14 in Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. De Finis was a truck driver for JTC Services for the past five years. Previously, he owned and operated Nicky D’s Distributing in East Hanover for several years and New Jersey Paving and Contracting in East Hanover for 37 years until 1996.
Born in Orange, Mr. De Finis lived in East Hanover for 39 years.
Surviving are Cecelia, his wife of 44 years; daughters, Teresa Moscatelli and Toni Marie; a sister, Rose Ruoto; and a brother, Anthony.
Marjorie Ressler
Marjorie M. Ressler, 79, of Union died Feb. 16 in Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston.
Mrs. Ressler was a nutritionist aide for the senior-nutrition program in the Union County Senior Center, Hillside, for 20 years. She retired in 1996.
Born in Orange, Mrs. Ressler lived in Hillside for 10 years and Orange before moving to Union many years ago.
Surviving are sons, Frederick and Conrad; daughters, Linda Alcorn, Debra Silva and Marjorie Gourlay; sisters, Mary Battista, Lucy Bonanno and Rosamarie Corbo; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Willie McCloud
Willie Jerold McCloud, 55, of Parlin died Feb. 16 at home.
Mr. McCloud was a language-arts teacher at the Carpe Diem School in Jersey City for two years. He earned his teaching certification and a bachelors degree in English literature from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford.
Mr. McCloud was a member of the New Jersey Education Association.
Born in Dothan, Ala., he lived in Orange before moving to Parlin three years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Pat; a daughter, Kimberly; and brothers, Michael, Wayne, Eric, Glen and Paul.
Frank Arace
Frank G. Arace, 63, of Millington died Feb. 16 in Overlook Hospital Summit.
Mr. Arace was the co-owner of Arace Brothers Disposal Service in East Orange, a company started by his late father, Andrew, for many years before retiring 10 years ago.
He was a member of the Elmwood Tiger Association and the Civic Association, both in East Orange, and the Knights of Columbus Council 4504 in Union.
Born in East Orange, he lived in Union for 30 years before moving to Millington eight years ago while maintaining a residence in Ortley Beach, and Deerfield Beach, Fla.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra; daughters, Elizabeth Arace Lockward and Catherine Appolonia; his mother, Elizabeth Arace, and four grandchildren.
John Meslar
John Richard Meslar, 73, of Dover Township died Feb. 16 at home.
Mr. Meslar was a claims adjustor with the New Jersey Manufacturer Insurance Co., Roseland, for 32 years before retiring in 1994. After his retirement, he worked on the Point Pleasant boardwalk as a miniature-golf course operator.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a volunteer fireman in Kinnelon.
Born in Orange, Mr. Meslar lived in Kinnelon before moving to Dover Township in 1994.
Surviving are Phyllis, his wife of 53 years; a son, James R.; a daughter, Carol A. Boyce; a brother, Robert; a sister, Ellen Scanlon; and six grandchildren.
Anne Rodgers
Anne S. Rodgers, 69, of Chatham Township died Feb. 16 in Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston.
Miss Rodgers was an assistant accounting manager with the General Motors Acceptance Corp. in Fairfield, where she worked for 36 years before retiring in 1993.
Born in Orange, Miss Rodgers lived in Harrison before moving to Chatham Township 20 years ago.
Rocco F. Quarto
Rocco F. Quarto, 80, a lifelong Orange resident, died Feb. 17 in St. Cloud Rehab Center, West Orange.
Mr. Quarto was a general mechanic with the U.S. post office in Orange for more than 30 years before retiring 15 years ago.
He served in the Army during World War II and was an usher at Mount Carmel Church for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Frances; and a brother, Pasquale.
Gertrude Hart
Gertrude Hart of Orange died Feb. 14 in the Parkway Manor Health Care Center in East Orange.
Born in Forsythe County, N.C., Mrs. Hart moved to Newark in 1939.
She is survived by a son, Charles Rush.
Margaret Kiernan
Margaret C. Kiernan, 81, of Clark died Feb. 16 in Union Hospital.
Mrs. Kiernan was a teacher at St. John the Apostle School in Clark for 10 years before retiring in 1973. Before that, she taught at Blessed Sacrament School in Elizabeth for four years.
She was a graduate of the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station with a bachelor’s degree in English.
Mrs. Kiernan was a member of the Senior Citizens Club, the Sun and Fun Club and the Rosary Society, all at St. John the Apostle Church.
Born in Orange, Mrs. Kiernan lived in Elizabeth before moving to Clark for 55 years.
Surviving are daughters, Jane C. Kiernan and Virginia Thompson; a son, Thomas P.; a sister, Regina Ducey; and four grandchildren.
