Wendell Fortier
Wall Township resident Wendell Fortier died early Thursday morning, Jan. 25, in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 85 years old.
Wendell was born and raised in New Hampshire, where he was an all-star basketball player in high school. He married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Keith, and moved to Wall Township shortly after World War II ended, where they raised their family.
He was particularly proud of being a World War II veteran and serving his country. Upon graduating high school, he joined the Navy and fought in the Mediterranean theater aboard the USS Philadelphia as a turret captain. After his military service, he worked his entire career at AT&T and retired in 1981.
He spent many of his later years tending to his garden until his wife died in April 2001. He was active many years in Manasquan Little League and Manasquan Fire Company.
Wendell is survived by his beloved sons, Dr. Keith Fortier and his wife Barbara of Waterford, Vt. Kenneth Fortier and his wife JoAnn of Manasquan, and his beloved daughter Deborah Morton and her husband Clyde; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Orender Family Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements. Cremation was private.

Daisy Carlotta Richardson Keyes
Lake Como resident Daisy Carlotta Richardson Keyes died Wednesday, Jan. 17 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 90 years old.
She was a lifelong resident of South Belmar/Lake Como and was educated in the West Belmar/Belmar Elementary School system and Asbury Park High School.
Daisy was the last surviving sibling of 14 children. Her family are members of the Cherokee Nation; the family was forced to emigrate from the Oklahoma Reservation during the “Trail of Tears” [1838-1839] forced migration. They were welcomed by the Lenni-Lenape tribe [Delaware River Indian Sub-tribe] and became members of the Lenape.
Daisy met the love of her life, Robert James Keyes Sr., of Atlantic Highlands, where they married on July 17, 1939 and raised seven children.
She was predeceased by her parents, all of her siblings; one son, Gary Justin; and her husband in 1986.
Surviving are her children, Daisy Russell-Wilson of Brielle, Robert James Jr. of Cottondale, Fla., Harvey George of Lake Como, Steven David of East Windsor, David Norman of Lake Como and Kevin Keith of Lake Como; one son-in-law, Donald Wilson; two daughters-in-law, Julie Keyes of Cottondale, Fla. and Jannifer Keyes of East Windsor; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of arrangements.
Entombment was at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
Ralph Anthony Russo
Manchester resident Ralph Anthony Russo, whose daughter lives in Wall Township, died Thursday, Jan. 25.
He was 72 years old.
Ralph was born and raised in Bronx, N.Y., and previously resided in Jackson and Howell townships before moving to Manchester six years ago.
He was employed as a lead programmer analyst for Continental Insurance Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1992 He was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church in Jackson.
He was a Navy veteran who served during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1955 aboard the USS Blackwood DE 219, and USS Everglades AD24.
Ralph was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years, Violet, in 1994.
He is survived by his second wife, Carol Mannino Russo; his children and their spouses, Madeline and Lee Rochelle of Wall and Ralph Jr. and Monica Russo of Oakland, Maine; and four granddaughters who were his life’s blessings, Stephanie, Christine, Whitney and Alexis.
He is also survived by his stepchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Tom Seery of Jackson, Mike and Gena Lonigro of West Long Branch, Joann and Ron Meredith of Freehold Township and Vicky and Gerald O’Donnell of Toms River; and their children who brought much laughter to his life, Tiffany, Kristina, Andrew, Francesca, Elizabeth, Aidan and Ava.
Orender Family Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements. Entombment was at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

Evelyn R. Anderson
Tinton Falls resident Evelyn R. Anderson, formerly of Bradley Beach, died Monday, Jan. 22 in Jersey Shore University Hospital, Neptune.
She was 84 years old.
Mrs. Anderson was a registered nurse at Bayonne Hospital before retiring to raise her three children. She was a graduate of the Bayonne Hospital Nursing School.
Born in Bayonne, Mrs. Anderson lived in Bradley Beach for 34 years before moving to Tinton Falls two years ago.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harold H. Anderson; her son Robert M. Anderson of Tinton Falls and his wife Lisa, her daughter Joyce Marie Clarke of Pipersville, Pa. and her husband Bob, her daughter Karen Irene Anderson of Bradley Beach; four grandchildren, Marissa Lee Anderson, Nicole R. Clarke, Jennifer N. Clarke, and Melanie M. Clarke; sister Lorraine L. Ozarowski of Madison, and several nieces and nephews.
Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar was in charge of arrangements. Interment was at Holy Cross cemetery, North Arlington.

Charles J. Mahoney
Sea Girt resident Charles J. Mahoney died Monday, Jan. 22 in his home.
He was 81 years old.
Mr. Mahoney was a self-employed sales representative before retiring.
He was a US Navy Veteran during World War II and a Communicant of St. Denis Roman Catholic Church in Manasquan.
Born in Danbury, Conn., he had lived in Shrewsbury before moving to Sea Girt.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary Smith Mahoney, in 2001.
He is survived by his three sons, C. Timothy of Knoxville, Tenn., Mark B. and his wife Noelle of Charlotte, N.C. and Keith E. and his wife Margo of Breckenridge, Colo.; a daughter Barbara Jane and her husband Lamar Cravasse of Gainesville, Fla.; and three sisters, Kate Kane of Stratford, Conn., Anne Knee of San Antonio, Texas, and Jane Nobes of Southbury, Conn. Mr. Mahoney also leaves behind five grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Route 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church in Manasquan. Interment will be private.

Judith Ellen Blanken
Bayville resident Judith Ellen Blanken, formerly of Wall Township, died Thursday, Jan. 25 following a courageous 15-year battle with cancer.
She was 62 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant, she was raised in Wall and was a graduate of the Wall High School class of 1962 before moving to Bayville in 1984.
Mrs. Blanken served as the Parent Teacher Association President of the H & M Potter School of Bayville, she was a devoted child care provider for neighborhood children Kelsey Kuch and Samantha Wolfsandle, along with being a day care provider with the Cherry Lane Day Care Center of Toms River before retiring due to complications of her advancing cancer.
The daughter of the late Robert Brewer and Elizabeth Layton Brewer, Mrs. Blanken was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Brewer, and two sisters, Nancy Brewer and Anna Kessler.
Surviving is her loving husband of 40 years, Anthony H. Blanken; her two loving children, Craig Blanken and his fiancee, Kate McBride, and Rachel Burkhardt and her husband, Kevin; in addition to being the proud grandmother of Logan Burkhardt.
Mrs. Blanken is also survived by three brothers, Edward Brewer of Wall, George [Richard] Brewer of Barnaget and Raymond Brewer of Florida; two sisters, Jean Honan of Brick and Betty Gardner of Florida.

William J. Manning
Manasquan resident William J. Manning died Thursday, Jan. 25 in his home.
He was 56 years old.
Mr. Manning is survived by his wife of 33 years, Catherine Codey Manning; his daughter, Kim, and her husband, Michael Heim, of West Chester, Pa.; his son, Matthew, and his wife, Tracy, of Verona; and his beloved granddaughter Bridget Codey Heim. He is also survived by his parents, William and Ruth Manning, of Lecanto, Fla.; his brother, Walter Manning and his wife, Diane, of Seminole, Fla.; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Claire Codey of Kiawah Island, S.C. and James and Carol Lott of Spring Lake Heights.
He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Frank J. Codey.
Visitation is today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.
On Friday, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Montclair at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception cemetery in Upper Montclair

Edward D. Wahlgren
Newark, Del. resident Edward D. Wahlgren, formerly of Sea Girt, died on Monday, Jan. 15.
He was 65 years old.
Services were private.
Interment at Arlington National cemetery will take place at a later date.

Audrey Winifred LaVance
Avon-by-the-Sea resident Audrey Winifred LaVance died Saturday, Jan. 27.
She was 93 years old.
Born in Roselle Park, she resided in the Shore area, before moving to Ohio in 1952 and then returning to Avon-by-the Sea in 1986.
Mrs. LaVance was a graduate of the Asbury High School Class of 1933.
The daughter of the late Ernest Edward Boetticher and Emily Ann Pettit, she was predeceased by her husband, George E. LaVance Sr., in 1989; and by her son, George E. LaVance Jr., in 1990. Mrs. LaVance was also predeceased by her brother, Ernest Edward Boetticher.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Wilson; her grandson Michael Wilson and his wife Allison of Washington, D.C.; her beloved great-granddaughter Marissa Wilson; and two nieces, Judith Leve and Valerie Hill.

Alfred J. Manutti, Jr.
Wall Township resident Alfred J. Manutti died Saturday, Jan. 27 in Waterford Glen Assisted Living, Wall Township.
He was 62 years old.
Born in Neptune, Mr. Manutti was a Shore area resident all of his life, residing in Wall Township since 1973 and confined mostly to his home due to a long illness.
He attended St. Rose Grammar School in Belmar and Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft.
He was predeceased by his ever-loving and caring mother, Louise M. Hahn Manutti; and his aunts Dorothy [Babe] C. Hahn of Wall, Anna M. Hahn of Wanamasa and uncle and aunt Joseph and Doris Hahn of Neptune; ever-loving aunt Sylvia and uncle Bud Gager of Belmar, and Aunt Irene Twidle of Belmar.
He is survived by his ever-loving and caring father, Alfred J. Manutti Sr.; ever-loving and caring aunt and uncle Jack and Erma Manutti of Belmar; and many cousins.
He was a member of the Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach.
