Nancy M. Coffey MacKenzie
Former Belmar resident Nancy M. Coffey MacKenzie died April 14 at Sunset Ridge, Frederick, Md.
She was 83 years old.
Mrs. MacKenzie was born and raised in Newark. She resided in Belmar for over 30 years, before moving to North Carolina. She relocated to Frederick, Maryland in 2005. Mrs. MacKenzie was a graduate of Saint Vincent Academy and Saint Elizabeth College, Convent Station, and then received her R.N. degree from Martland, Newark City Hospital, thereby continuing a long family tradition of medical service. She was part of the nursing staff of several hospitals and later retired from the Methodist Home in Ocean Grove.
Mrs. MacKenzie was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Michael Joseph and Anna [nee] Bridgett Coffey, R.N.; two brothers, John Roderick and Dr. Michael Joseph Coffey, Jr.; and her son, Michael Kerry Mackenzie, in 1998.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Candace MacKenzie and J. Rollins, Washington, D.C.; three gran-daughters, Jessica, Columbia, South Carolina, Hope and Mariah Rollins, Washington, D.C.; her brother, Edgar Bruce Coffey; and nephew, Edgar Jon Coffey, of Wayside.
Arrangements were handled by McDonough Funeral Home, Manasquan.
Ray Sanse
Spring Lake Heights resident Ray Sanse, also known as Raphael J. Sanseverino died Friday, April 14 at The Arbors, Spring Lake Heights.
He was 91 years old.
Ray had also resided in Manhassett and Brooklyn, N.Y. He had been self employed for most of his working life in the oil industry. After this he was employed by the New York Yankees for 16 years. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y, he had lived in Long Island, N.Y., Heathrow, Fla., for 12 years and then in Tinton Falls, N.J. before moving to Spring Lake Heights three years ago. He had been a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army.
Mr. Sanseverino was predeceased by his wife, Agnes Mahoney Sanse, in 1998.
Surviving are his two sons, Raymond Sanseverino, Chappaqua, N.Y. and Raphael Sanseverino, Carrollton, Tx.; his loving daughter, Anita Sanseverino-Galan, Manchester; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service Thursday, April 20 at 8:45 a.m. from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall Township, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake. In lieu of flowers Ray’s family requests donations be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn.,38105-1942.
Ruth Veronica Kernahan
Wall Township resident Ruth Veronica [Fitzpatrick] Kernahan died peacefully Friday, April 14 in Wall Township.
She was 85 years old.
Born July 22, 1920, Ruth was much loved and will be missed by all who knew her. She grew up in Elizabeth and lived in Avon and Spring Lake Heights before moving to Wall Township in 1999. Ruth was a graduate of Linden High School and the Katherine Gibbs school, New York City. She worked as an administrative secretary at the Monmouth County TB Clinic and at Camp Evans before retiring in 1988. Ruth loved her family, the Shore, and her home. She will be lovingly remembered for her sense of humor and her smile, her love of fashion, and her enjoyment of chocolates, coffee ice cream, and a great cup of coffee, as well as for her care and love of her family.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Susan Fitzpatrick; her brother, Donald Fitzpatrick; and her son-in-law, Hugh Griffin.
Ruth is survived by her brother, Gene Fitzpatrick, Atlanta, Georgia; her daughter, Peggy Griffin; son, Dennis Kernahan and partner, Jeff Price; son, Martin Kernahan and wife, Barbara; and daughter, Mary Ann McGevna and husband, Tom; and her beloved grandchildren, Timmy and Moira McGevna, whom she loved with all her heart In addition, Ruth is survived by her compassionate and caring home health aid, Anita Bryant.

Nathaniel Jefferson Belger
Manasquan resident Nathaniel Jefferson Belger died Thursday, March 30 at Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.
On August 18, 2005, Nathaniel Jefferson Belger was born at Jersey Shore University Medical Center to proud parents, Jeff and Kristin Belger [Hagan], of Manasquan.
Nathaniel was born at 25 weeks gestation, 1 pound 11.3 ounces, 12 1/2 inches long. At one month of age, Nathan was helivaced to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he spent the next 6 1/2 months being lovingly cared for by the nurses and medical staff of the NICU. Although Nathan’s life was filled with many complicated surgeries and constant intense medical care, he gave us 7 1/2 months of true love. The miracle of one life, however short, traveling so far and touching so many. Our precious miracle, Nathan.
Nathaniel Jefferson was also known as, My Little Fighter Pilot, my Boy, Cutie Boy, Nathan J., ‘thaniel, NJ, Muffin, Pumpkin, Peanut, Lil Man, Nate, Nate the Skate, Nate the Great, Miracle Child, Nathan.
Surviving are great-grandparents, Marion and Kenneth Hagan, Jacksonville, Fla.; grandparents, Brenda and Roland Hagen, of East Brunswick, and Bonnie and Donnie Leyko, Melbourne, Fla.; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and all of the lives he touched. To bond this journey we have all gone through together we would like to create a very special headstone for our only child, Nathan. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 4, at St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan. Burial followed in Greenwood cemetery, Brielle. Neary-Quinn Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Marian McSpiritt
Manasquan resident Marian McSpiritt, formerly of Newark, died Sunday, April 16 in her home, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Newark, she was a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel Grammar and High Schools. She received a degree from Caldwell College and continued on to Fordham University’s School of Social Work and then to Seton Hall University. She was a social worker in the Newark Archdioces for three years and then moved into education for the next thirty-five years as a teacher at Broadway Elementary School, Newark. She was a member of the Newark Teachers Union, and the Alumni Associations of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Caldwell College, Fordham University and Seton Hall University. She had a lifelong love for Ireland, which prompted her to co-author The Irish Cottage Cookbook and The Irish Heritage Cookbook with her Irish cousin, Mercedes McLoughlin. Another cousin, Mary MacNeely, operated an Irish tea room in Castlebar, County Mayo. It was Marian’s wish to thank her brothers and sisters and her cousins, Mercedes Paton, Michael and Karen Long, the VNA Hospice and Dr. Susan Greenburg for their tender care during her illness.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles H. and Anna E. [nee] MacNeely McSpiritt.
She is survived by her siblings, Charles H. and Rev. John P. McSpiritt, S.T., Anita and Thomas McCudden and Catherine Kelleher and numerous nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at 8:45 a.m. from the McDonough Funeral Home, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, on Thursday and then proceed to St. Denis Church, Manasquan, for the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., followed by interment in St. Catherine Cemetary, Wall. Matilda Marie Sidley
Toms River resident, former resident of Nutley, and mother of Sea Girt resident, Matilda Marie [nee Devins] Sidley died Thursday, April 13 at Burnt Tavern Nursing and Rehab Center, Brick.
She was 82 years old.
Mrs. Sidley had been employed as the the office manager for Dupont Corporation, Newark. She was a Communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Toms River. Mrs. Sidley had also served on the PTA of St. Joseph’s Grammar School, Toms River, and had served as President of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, St. Joseph’s Council # 4969, Toms River. Born in Newark, she had lived in Nutley before moving to Toms River in 1960.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Sidley, in 1980; her son, Shawn A. Sidley; her sister, Marie Folena; and her brother, William Devins.
Surviving are her two sons and their wives, Sea Girt Police Chief Edward J. Jr. and his wife, Kelly Sidley, Sea Girt, and Anthony E. and his wife, Lisa Sidley, San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Anthony and Donald Devins; and five grandchildren, Edward J., Caitlin, Timothy, Anthony, and Shawn.

Joseph Gerard Passaic
Brielle resident Joseph Gerard Passaic died Monday, April 17 at Wellington Regional Hospital, Wellington, Fla.
He was 77 years old.
Born and raised in Newark, Joseph served in the U.S. Navy and continued to serve the public as a Newark police officer and subsequently as a Lieutenant Detective with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. He graduated William Paterson University with a master’s degree in public administration.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Pignataro.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gertrude Passaic; his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and James Berry; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Margaret Passaic and William and Kasey Passaic; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Leigh and Allan Raffauf and Elizabeth and Steven Varellas; granddaughters, Devon Berry, Lindsey, and Lauren Passaic, Amy Pignataro; grandson, Barrett Passaic; great-granddaughter, Lily Raffauf; and many devoted friends. He will always be loved and remembered for his great love and devotion to his wife and family.

Donald W. Voorhees
Spring Lake Heights resident Donald W. Voorhees died Tuesday, Jan. 2.
He was 50 years old.
Mr. Voorhees was born in Point Pleasant, where he was a lifelong resident of Spring Lake Heights. He was both owner and president of Voorhees Plumbing and Heating Inc. of Spring Lake Heights. He was a member of the Monmouth County Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Contractors Association, as well as an avid cyclist. Mr. Voorhees was also a parish member of Saint Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Spring Lake.
He was predeceased by his father Russell Voorhees. Surviving are his beloved wife Patricia; his loving daughter Casey and his son Jeffrey. He is also survived by his mother Loraine Voorhees of Brick; his sister Valerie Crossman of Spring Lake Heights, and his brothers David Russell Voorhees of Hopewell, and James Voorhees of Rogersville, Tenn.
Friends and relatives were received at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall. Mr. Voorhees was laid to rest at the Wayside Methodist Church cemetery in Wayside, Ocean Township, on Saturday, Jan. 6.
John B. Moran
Wall resident John B. Moran died Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
He was 73 years old.
John was the Director of Auditing for Prudential Insurance in Newark for 32 years. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of the City College of New York.
John was born and raised in Bronx, N.Y., before residing in Jersey City, Matawan, and then Holmdel for 30 years. He eventually moved to Wall 9 years ago.
John was a true “family man”, and lived for his family and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary McCusker Moran of Wall; his son John and wife Heidi Moran of Colts Neck,; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Peter Reno of Jackson, Mary and Russell Romeo of Millstone; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Thomas and Madeline Moran of Riverdale, N.Y., Patrick and Kathleen Moran of Wall, and a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Samuel Hager of Palm City, Fla. John is also survived by five grandchildren, John Moran III, Conor Moran, Jacqueline Moran, Caroline Moran, and Michael Romeo.
Friends and relatives were received at the Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Saint Martha’s Church in Point Pleasant. Henry Allen Heidt II
Brielle resident Henry Allen Heidt II died Friday, Jan. 5 at the Sunnyside Manor Nursing Home in Brielle.
He was 89 years old.
Mr. Heidt was a retired senior vice president of Noville Essential Oils in North Bergen, before retiring in 1986.
Mr. Heidt, known to his friends as Bob, was a lifelong New Jersey resident. Born in 1918 in Jersey City, he then moved to Upper Montclair before starting school. He graduated from Kingsley School in Essex Fells, where he was a member of the varsity football team. He also attended Bucknell University. When World War II threatened in 1940, he enlisted as a private in the Army. After the war, he was discharged as a captain.
In 1946, Mr. Heidt married Nancy Schoonmaker of Caldwell. The couple resided for 15 years in Upper Montclair, then 15 years in Essex Fells, and 25 years in Mantaloking before settling in Brielle in 1997.
Being an avid tennis player, golfer, and sailor, Mr. Heidt had memberships at clubs in Essex Fells and Mantaloking. He was also a member of the Bay Head Yacht Club and Manasquan River Golf Club. Mr. Heidt was also a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Bay Head.
Mr. Heidt is survived by his wife Nancy; two sons, Henry Heidt III, and David J. Heidt, both of Silverton, and a daughter Darcy Heidt and granddaughter Rachel Heidt of Beaufort, S.C.. He was predeceased by his brothers the late Christian Heidt III and William J. Heidt.
Van Hise and Callagan Funeral home in Point Pleasant Beach was in charge of arrangements, with a private memorial service held.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggested a contribution to be made to one’s favorite charity.
Charles J. Wheat Jr.
Spring Lake Heights resident Charles J. Wheat Jr. died Wednesday, Jan. 3 at the Monmouth County Care Center in Allenwood.
He was 82 years old.
Mr. Wheat had been employed as a Senior Loan Officer for Jersey Mortgage Co., in Elizabeth for many years before retiring in 1989.
He had been a Councilman for the Borough of Spring Lake Heights from 1976-1977 and had volunteered as a Little League coach for the Borough for many years. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII serving from 1943 until 1946 and had been present for the Invasion of Normandy. He was a Communicant of St. Catherine & St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake. Mr. Wheat was also an avid golfer who made three Holes in One during his life.
Born in Newark, he had been a resident of Spring Lake Heights since 1957. He was also a graduate of Saint Benedict’s Prep, Newark and Seton Hall University. He was predeceased by his parents Charles J. Sr. and Emma Fallon Wheat and his two sisters Betty Boynton and Etta Tadayeski.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret O’Rawe Wheat; his six children and their spouses, Kevin and Jeannie Wheat of Manasquan, Daniel and Julie Wheat of Brick, Mary Kathryn and Mark Berner of Jensen Beach, Fla., Margaret Rose and Joseph Kotran of Toms River, Colleen and Charles Jasperse of Brick, and Terence and Carole Wheat of Wall, and 16 grandchildren.
Relatives and friends were received at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Mon. Jan. 8, at Saint Margaret’s RC Church in Spring Lake. Mr. Wheat is laid to rest at NJ Veterans cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, family asked for donations to be made to Oceans of Love, 1709 Rt. 37 East, Toms River, 08753.
Augusta Banghart
Brick resident Augusta Banghart died Wednesday, Jan. 3 at the Geraldine L. Thompson Care Center in Wall. Her son John Banghart and daughter and son-in-law Linda and Jack Eisnaugle, currently reside in Wall.
Mrs. Banghart was 87 years old.
Mrs. Banghart was born in Hackettstown, where she lived most of her married life in Newton before moving to Brick in 2002. She worked for many years for the Selective Insurance Company in Branchville. She had been a member of the United Methodist Church for Newton for all her married life. She was also well known in her Care Center as an avid Yankee fan.
Mrs. Banghart was the devoted wife of Clarence “Jack” Banghart who died in 2002. They had been married for 63 years.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law William and Roseanne Banghart of Allentown; a daughter and son-in-law Janice and Joe Ippolito of Waldwick; four grandchildren, Donna McGonnell, John Banghart, Jamie Banghart and Joe Ippolito, and one great-grandchild Patricia McGonnell. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law James and Ella Beatty of Bend, Ore.; sister-in-law Millie Beatty of Hackettstown, and several nieces and nephews who affectionately call her “Aunt Gussie.”
The funeral was held Tuesday, January 9 at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan. She is laid to rest at the Tranquility cemetery in Green Township.
Rosemary Maldjian
Interlaken resident Rosemary Maldjian died Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Her son and daughter-in-law Peter J. and Patricia, reside in Brielle.
Rosemary was 78 years old.
She was born in Asbury Park, and lived there before moving to Interlaken in 1964. She graduated from Asbury Park High School and attended Monmouth College where she studied art. She was a communicant of Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in West End.
Rosemary is survived by her husband of 49 years, Joseph A. Maldjian; son and daughter-in-law John P. and Laura of Rumson; two daughters and sons-in-law Bernadette and Glenn Davis of Oakhurst and Jeanette and John Keegan of Oakhurst; two brothers and a sister-in-law Peter Coppola of Interlaken and Anthony and Kay Coppola of West Long Branch. Rosemary also had 13 grandchildren, Ashley and Shannon Fitzpatrick, Glenn Davis Jr., Kate, Maggie, Sean, Meghan, and Kevin Maldjian, Paige, Matthew and Taylor Keegan, Kyle and Alex Maldjian.
Visitation was held Sunday, January 6, at the Buckley Funeral Home in Asbury Park. A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, January 8. Rosemary was laid to rest in Saint Catharine’s Mausoleum in Wall.
