Raymond F. Conniff
Sea Girt resident Raymond F. Conniff, Esq. died Sunday, July 2 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 86 years old.
Mr. Conniff was born in Jersey City, resided in Bergen County for 38 years, before moving to Manhattan to gain admission to the New York Bar. He summered in Sea Girt for many years, before moving there 15 years ago.
He graduated from New York University School of Commerce Accounts and Finance, attended New York University School of Law, and received a juris doctor degree from New York Law School.
Mr. Conniff was associated with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, New York, for many years, handling a volume of heavy litigation in courts of unlimited jurisdiction and on the appellate level. He was appointed a small claims court arbitrator in the Civil Court of the City of New York.
Twice a candidate for United States Magistrate for the Southern District of New York, Mr. Conniff was presented in 1968 with a Scroll of Honor from the Trial Lawyers Division of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York at a dinner in his honor at the Essex House.
Of all of his accomplishments he was most proud of his service during World War II, where he served in the Navy in the South Pacific.
His past and present memberships include, the American Bar Association, the New York Bar Association, the Metropolitan Trial Lawyers Association, Phi Delta Phi, International Legal Fraternity, former president of the Washington Square Village Association, the Bergen County Historical Society, the American Legion, and a Perpetual member of Sea Girt Lighthouse Citizens Committee.
Mr. Conniff was predeceased by his wife, Frances Menschik Conniff in 1984; his brothers, William J. Conniff Jr. and Robert P. Conniff.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth E.C. Dwyer, Branchburg; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 8 at St. Rose Church, Seventh Avenue and E Street, Belmar. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sea Girt Lighthouse Citizens Committee, P.O. Box 83, Sea Girt, 08750. The Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, is in charge of arrangements.
Frances Paduano
Neptune resident Frances Elizabeth Paduano, formerly of Belmar, died Friday, June 30, surrounded by her loving children.
She was 96 years old.
Frances was born in Lakewood and raised in Belmar, where she lived most of her life. She was a loving, unselfish and nurturing wife and mother to her husband and children. Looking for the best in people, she was an excellent listener who always gave good advice to anyone that came to her for help. She took pleasure and happiness in the simple daily tasks of life for her family. An excellent cook, she was always in the kitchen preparing a delicious meal or making a dessert that would please everyone. Sunday dinner was always special with family, relatives, and friends.
Her strong belief in our Lord gave her strength to handle life’s problems. She was a devout Catholic who, along with her devoted husband, Nicholas, practiced their faiths and led their family by example. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were an immense joy to her.
Frances was in the first classes of St. Rose Grammar School. married early in life, she was hard working and at the age of 19 was the floor lady in charge of over 200 women in a dress factory. It took two women to replace her when she retired. Her five children attended the St. Rose schools where she was very active including PTA duties and working the cafeteria at lunch. She loved both the school and the children.
Frances was predeceased by her loving husband, Nicholas R. Paduano in 1977 and by her daughter, Patricia Sylvester. Frances was the daughter of the late Peter and Harriet Grand [Kelty], and was also predeceased by her stepfather Thomas Kelty and stepsister Ella Africano; her son-in-laws, Frank Sauta and Charles A. Sylvester Sr.; and her grandfather Andrew Estelle.
Surviving are her beloved children, Dolores Sauta, Neptune, Nicholas and Janice Paduano, Glendola, Eugene and Rosemary Paduano, Interlaken, and Stephen G. Paduano, who lovingly devoted wonderful care to his mother during her last years. Also surviving a sister-in-law, Helen Paduano; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:45 a.m. today at St. Rose Church, Belmar. Interment will be in St. Catherine’s cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Rose Church.
Catherine ‘Katie’ Amadruto
Spring Lake Heights resident Catherine “Katie” Amadruto died Saturday, July 1 in her home.
She was 83 years old.
Born and raised in New York City, she had been a resident of Spring Lake Heights for 58 years. Mrs. Amadruto was a real estate investor, owning several properties in the Shore area. Widowed at a very early age, she raised her four children as a single parent. She was also a volunteer at the VNA Consignment Shop in Manasquan for 20 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Amadruto.
Mrs. Amadruto is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Craig Graham and Lucy and Norris Frost; her sons, Frank Amadruto and his wife, Dianne, and George Amadruto; her grandchildren, Cynthia, John and Mason O’Connell; and her sister, Irene Pappas.
Funeral from the O’Brien Funeral Home Route 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall Township, today at 9 a.m. Funeral service at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church Asbury Park, 10 a.m. followed by committal at Mount Calvary cemetery, Neptune.
Marilyn Ann Watkins-Emmens
Spring Lake resident Marilyn Ann Watkins-Emmens died Tuesday, July 4 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after a courageous battle against cancer for the past 10 years.
She was 51 years old.
Marilyn was the owner of Lizzybee Toys LLC., Belleville for the past six years. She was also a member of several toy-related associations, namely; Women in Toys, American Specialty Toy Retailer’s Association, and the Toy Industry Association. She was a communicant of St. Catherine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she had lived in North Bergen before moving to Spring Lake in 1998.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Michael and Sophie Melniczek.
She is survived by her loving husband, Christopher Emmens, Spring Lake and her step-son Scott and wife Sara Emmens, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren and many loving friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 7 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 5:00 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall Township. Committal will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, N.J. 07702, would be preferred.
Kathleen Lillian Doherty
Sea Girt resident Kathleen McCarthy Lillian Doherty died Tuesday, July 4 in Sunrise Assisted Living, Wall Township, surrounded by her loving family.
She was 81 years old.
Mrs. Doherty has been employed as a real estate agent for many years, working for the Ken Twiman Agency, Sea Girt, and later in her career for the Schweir Agency, Sea Girt. Prior to this, she was employed as the executive secretary for Peter Grace of the W.R. Grace Lines, New York City.
She was a former communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach and had also been a member of the school P.T.A. Since moving to Sea Girt she was very active St.Mark’s Church and had served as eucharistic minister, CCD teacher and was a member of the St. Mark’s Social Concerns Committee. Once of her proudest accomplishments was as a eucharistic minister, she would bring Communion to parish members in the local hospital two times a week. This she was able to do until very recently in her life.
Born and raised in Jersey City, she moved to Point Pleasant Beach in 1955 and resided there until moving to Sea Girt in 1977. As a resident of Point Pleasant Beach, she was very active as a Girl Scout leader. In Sea Girt, she was active in the school PTA. She was also a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club and the 18 Holers Club at the club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Daniel T. Doherty, in 1991.
She is survived by her children, Daniel T. Jr., of Elmhurst, Ill., John K., of Point Pleasant Beach, Susan Fitz-William, of Gainesville, Fla., Maureen Doherty, of Springfield, Va., Eileen Smith, of Point Pleasant and Pittsburgh and Kathleen Herman, of Sea Girt. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas McCarthy, of Miami Lakes, Fla.; her sister, Patricia Teehan, of Red Bank; and 18 grandchildren, Sean, Patrick, Michael and Katie Mallon, Matthew and Caroline Herman, Erin, Melissa and Laura Zoller, Walter Robert, Deirdre, Tim and Simon Fitz-William and Cristi, Daniel III, Megan, Patrick and Michael Doherty.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the O’Brien funeral home, Route 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall Township, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. only. Interment will be at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Wall.

Joseph C. Stansbury
Avon-by-the-Sea resident Joseph Charles Stansbury died Monday, July 3 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 81 years old.
Mr. Stansbury was the president and owner of Sterling Account Services in East Hanover before retiring five years ago.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Stansbury served on the ship LST 356. He received the American Theater Medal, the European Theater Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus in Livingston.
Born in Newark, Mr. Stansbury was raised in Irvington. He lived in Livingston for 39 years until moving to his summer home in Avon 10 years ago.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helene Stansbury; his two sons, James J. Stansbury of West Belmar and Glenn J. Stansbury of Avon; his daughter, Lynne A. Dunne of Tinton Falls and her husband, William; and his five grandchildren, Alexandra Dunne and Caitlin, Joseph, Parker and Paige Stansbury. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Stansbury, of White House Station; and his daughter-in-law, Diane Stansbury, of Avon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar on Friday at 8 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church, Avon at 9 a.m., followed by internment at Brig. General William A. Doyle Veterans cemetery, Arnytown.

Charles E. Hurley
Spring Lake Heights resident Charles E. Hurley died Monday, July 3 in Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove.
He was 78 years old.
He was truck driver for almost 50 years, working for Sterner Lumber, Jersey Seaboard Lines and Freehold Lumber. Charles also worked for the Borough of Spring Lake at the recycling center for 10 years.
He was a Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He enjoyed to hunt, was an avid baseball and stock racing fan. Born in Spring Lake, he was a lifelong resident of the Shore area.
Charles was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Alva Wooley Hurley in 2003; a daughter, JoAnne Hurley in 2004; and three brothers, Willard, Francis and Leroy Hurley.
He is survived by a son, Richard Hurley of Spring Lake Heights; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Thomas and Shirley Hurley, Lakewood and Kenneth Hurley, Jupiter, Fla.; a cousin, Marion Brand, of Ocean Township; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Orender Family Home for Funerals, Wall.

Joseph F. Filodoro
Belmar resident Joseph F. Filodoro died Friday, Aug, 18 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 56 years old.
Mr. Filodoro worked as a sales representative for the Arvey Corporation in Jersey City and Cedar Grove. He was a member of Club 900 of Belmar. He loved life, his family, the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.
Born in Jersey City, he was raised in Bayonne before moving to Belmar 28 years ago.
Mr. Filodoro is survived by his wife, Mara [Gledich] Filodoro; his son, Joseph G. Filodoro of Belmar; his sister, Mary Ann Schiavello of Holland Township and her husband, Dominick; his two sisters-in-law, Pamela Roesch of Pennsylvania and Danica Ables of Florida; his brother-in-law, Nicholas Gledich of Florida and his wife, Nora; his mother-in-law, Marie A. Gledich of Florida; and five nephews, John and Dominick Schiavello, Matthew Roesch and his wife, Trish, Andrew Roesch and his wife, Heather, and Nicholas Gledich.
Entombment was at Trinity Mausoleum, Wall Township.

Helen Marie Jobes
Ocala, Fla. resident Helen Marie Jobes, formerly of Wall Township died Tuesday, Aug. 15 in Legacy Hospice of Marion County.
She was 73 years old.
Mrs. Jobes worked for Two Guys Department store, Neptune City, for 18 years and Central Jersey Bank, Neptune City, before retiring in 1984.
Helen and her husband, Robert, together enjoyed working in their yard and camping by the beach. Helen was born in Bloomsburg, Pa. and lived in Wall Township before moving to Florida 20 years ago.
She was predeceased by her parents, Herbert B. and Mamie Steinruck Wolfe, and a brother, Herbert Thomas Wolfe.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Robert I. Jobes; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert I. Jobes of Ocean Township, and James Richard and Rhonda L. Jobes of Brick; and a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy S. and Harold J. Harris of Ocala, Fla. She is also survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, William and Cathy Wolfe of Manasquan, James and Barbara Wolfe of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Isabel and Joe Miller of Florida, Nancy Burke of Florida, and Carol Heldreth of Wall; four grandchildren, Robert [Robby], Jennifer, James and Jamie; five great-grandchildren, Danielle, James, Robert, Christopher and Tanner; one step great-granddaughter, Paige, and a host of other family members.
Interment was at Glendola cemetery, Wall.

Harrison L. Pearce
Manasquan resident Harrison L. Pearce died Friday, Aug. 18 in Community Medical Center, Toms River.
He was 73 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant, he was a lifelong area resident, living in both Brielle and Manasquan.
A United States Navy, Korea veteran, Mr. Pearce was employed by Jersey Central Power and Light, Point Pleasant, as a meter service representative, for 38 years, retiring in 1995.
A member of the Manasquan Hook and Ladder Company, No. 1, he served as assistant fire chief from 1976-77 and as the fire chief from 1978-79. He was a member of the Brielle Fire Company; the Manasquan Shade Tree Commission from 1984-2003; the Manasquan Firemen’s Bowling Association; the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen’s Association; and was a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manasquan.
Mr. Pearce is survived by his wife, Harriet [nee Anderson]; two daughters, Lee Ann Woolley and her husband, Daryl, of Manasquan and Laurie Pearce and her husband, Kim Kowalczyk, of Jackson; and five grandchildren, Allyson, Katelyn and David Woolley and Alexandra and Payden Kowalczyk.
Interment was at Greenwood cemetery, Brielle.
