Reginald Burdge
Wall Township resident Reginald Burdge died Friday, May 5 in his home.
He was 81 years old.
Mr. Burdge was born in Neptune and remained a resident of Neptune until moving to Wall 15 years ago.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class. Mr. Burdge received the Honorable Discharge Button and Service Lapel Button.
Following his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Burdge was an auto mechanic with Park Chevrolet in Asbury Park from 1949 until 1969.
He received his master’s degree from Rutgers University in 1980, served as a teacher and principal of the Monmouth County Vocational School before retiring in 1989. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader in Neptune City and served as a member of the Masonic Lodge of Neptune.
Mr. Burdge is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margie Feucher Burdge; one son, Wayne Burdge and his wife, Joanne, Clifton Park, N.Y.; two daughters, Linda Burdge, Wall Township and Karen and her husband Alfred D’Agostino, Baltimore; his sister, Gloria,and her husband ,David Drout, Neptune. Also surviving are his seven special grandchildren: Anna, Andrew, Chris, Peter, Michele, Matthew and Eric.

Ethel Burns
Manasquan resident Ethel Burns died Tuesday, Nov. 15 in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Eleanor Burns, in Babylon, N.Y.
She was 95 years old.
Mrs. Burns was born Oct. 29, 1910 in Philadelphia and was the second child of Alfred and Lillian Blauvelt. She grew up in Bound Brook and worked for the Pathé Films, first in Bound Brook and later in New York City, N.Y. Mrs. Burns spent her married life in the Bronx, N.Y. with her husband William before his death in 1959. She walked the Manasquan boardwalk almost every day during the years that she lived on Ocean Avenue.
She was also predeceased by her son Jimmy, a long active member of the Manasquan VFW, in 2001. She was also predeceased by her son, John Patrick, who died in infancy; her sister, Iris Blauvelt, and her brothers, Charles Blauvelt and James Englesbe.
She is survived by her grandchildren, William Burns, Nesconset, N.Y., Margaret Burke and her husband, Carl, Quakertown, Pa., Mary Madsen and her husband, Carl, Babylon, N.Y., and Ellen Burns, New York City; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Burns, Spring Lake Heights; her great-grandchildren, Franklin and Daniel Madsen and John and Elizabeth Burke; her nephews, Charles and Bruce Blauvelt, James Englesbe and John Reilly; and her nieces, Gail Horton and Allison Fusco.

Mary Blumenstock
Manasquan resident Mary K. Blumenstock died Tuesday, Nov. 22 at her home.
She was 83 years old.
Born in Rostraver, Penn., Mrs. Blumenstock resided in Rutherford before moving to Manasquan 20 years ago. She was a telephone operator for the Bell System for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Mrs. Blumenstock was a communicant of St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan and a member of the Manasquan Women’s Club. She also enjoyed the Curtis House in Brielle and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Mrs. Blumenstockwas predeceased by her husband, Frank, in 1984.
She was survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Lee Blumenstock, Allenwood, and Gary and Linda Blumenstock, Point Pleasant Beach; her sisters, Helen Mogan, Stoughton, Mass., Peg Butera, Charleroi, Penn., Agnes Fidnarik, Belle Vernon, Penn., Dolores Snyder, Fairview, Ohio, and Ann Jeffers, Westchester, Ohio; her grandchildren, Christopher, Lauren, Lindsey, Tracy and Jason; and her granddaughter, Chloe.

Russell Henderson
Wall Township Russell E. Henderson died on Friday, Nov. 18 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was a 1937 graduate of Manasquan High School. A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp 15th Air Force. 97th Bomb Group and the 341st Squadron. He was a B-17 Flight Engineer/Top Turret Gunner flying 50 missions from African to Italy including two missions to Ploesti, Monte Casino and Anzio Beach Head. He was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a letter carrier for the United States Post Office. Delivering mail in Avon-by-the-Sea from 1947 to 1974. In 1955, while working his route, Mr. Henderson rescued a six-year-old boy who had fallen through the ice on Shark River. For this, he received the National Safety Council’s President’s Medal and Certificate and the Post Office Department’s Superior Achievement Award. He was also a security officer the clubhouse of Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport from 1976 to 1984. He was a member of the V.F.W. post in Spring Lake Heights, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 24 in Asbury Park and the 97th Bomb Group Reunion Association.
Mr. Henderson was predeceased by his parents, Edward F. and Edith Henderson, and his brother, Alvin C. Henderson.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Miller Henderson; a son, Robert E. Henderson, Wall; a daughter, Lynn A. Kanaby, Flemington; a sister, Gladys C. Banner, Wall; and two grandchildren, Robert Russell Kanaby and Kate Lynn Kanaby, Flemington.

Antonuzza Bertucci
Manasquan resident Antonuzza Virdo Bertucci died Monday, Nov. 28 at her home.
She was 96 years old.
Born in Mileto, Italy, Mrs. Bertucci came to the United States and joined her family in Manasquan in 1958. She was a communicant of St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Giuseppe [Joseph] Bertucci, who died in 1994.
Mrs. Bertucci is survived by her son, Frank Bertucci, Manasquan, her daughters, Angela Rabeni, Wall Township, Cathy Garruzzo, Brielle, Aida Incolla, Manasquan, Maria Bertucci, Millstone, Lina Lingenfelter, Howell, and Susan Bertucci; Manasquan; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated today at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan. Interment will follow in St. Catharine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

Charles Fasulo
Brielle resident Charles P. Fasulo died Sunday, Nov. 27.
He was 51 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Mr. Fasulo lived in Point Pleasant and resided in Brielle for fifteen years. A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Boston, he was a pharmacist and was the former owners of the Brielle Pharmacy. Mr. Fasulo was a member of Rotary International, Spring Lake-Brielle Club; the Manasquan River Country Club; and was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan. He had the distinction of being listed in both the “Who’s Who among College Students” and the “Who’s Who among Young Business Men.”
A beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Mr. Fasulo was predeceased by his father, Henry.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Debra Jarest Fasulo; his son, Charles H. Fasulo, Brielle; his mother, Rita Fasulo, Point Pleasant; his sister, Maria Elena Canetta, Marlboro; and his nephew, Michael Canetta.
In lieu of flowers, contributions made in his memory to an organization benefiting the homeless would be deeply appreciated.

Mary Sweeney
Wall Township resident Mary Agnes [nee Burke] Sweeney, also of Jersey City, died Sunday, Nov. 27 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 90 years old.
Born and raised in Jersey City, Mrs. Sweeney was a resident of Wall Township for the past eight and a half years. She had been employed as a clerk for the Metropolitan Life Insurance and later for the Fabrege Company. Mrs. Sweeney was a graduate of Dickinson High School, Jersey City, and a member of the Merry Knitters. She was a former Communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Jersey City, and of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Church, Spring Lake.
Mrs. Sweeney was predeceased by her husband, Frank J. Sweeney, on Dec. 29, 1994, and her siblings, Thomas Joseph, Francis and Robert Burke and Anne Barrett.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Michael F. and Katrina, Long Valley, Denis F. and Joanne, Fair Haven, James F. and Colleen, Dunellen, and Patricia M. Sweeney, Wall, with whom she lived; and eight grandchildren Keely, Brian, Claire, Timothy, Kevin, Joseph, Patrick and Cathleen.

Edward Newman
Jackson resident Edward L. Newman, who has a mother-in-law in Wall Township, died Sunday, Nov. 27 at his home.
He was 45 years old.
Born in Newark, Mr. Newman was a lifelong resident of the shore, living most of his life in South Belmar before moving to Jackson in 1996. He loved golf, travel and hiking. Mr. Newman was a graduate of St. Rose Grammar and High Schools and Seton Hall University. For the past 23 years, Mr. Newman was with the state of New Jersey as a probation officer working out of the Asbury Park Office.
He was predeceased by his father, Edward Newman.
Mr. Newman is survived by his mother, Mary McIntyre Newman, Neptune City; his wife, Katherine Fenton-Newman; his daughter, Alexandra Fenton at home; and a step-daughter, Ashley DeLucia, Cream Ridge; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Gus Goodwin; his nephew Daniel Goodwin; and his niece Tara Goodwin, all of Neptune; and his mother-in-law, Maureen Fitzgerald, Wall.

Ann Petro
Former Sea Girt resident Ann [nee Heilos] Petro of Virginia Beach, Va. died Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va.
She was 45 years old.
Born in Sea Girt, where she attended Sea Girt School and was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Mrs. Petro earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Medical Technology as a graduate of Hood College, Frederick, Md. Mrs. Petro served an internship with Hartford Hospital after graduating from Hood College. Mrs. Petro worked as senior research manager for Pfeizer Pharmaceuticals, Groten, Conn. She was also a member of the St. Mark’s CYO Group, where she did work for the diocese of Trenton, and was given the “Eagle of the Cross” award, a national award for excellence in work done within the CYO group. Mrs. Petro was also part of the St. Mark’s folk group for 12 years. In 1978, she was selected as part of the Heilos Family “Family of the Year” award for the third Congressional District, given the diocese of Trenton. She was on the board of trustees for Ocean Tumbler’s Gymnastics and a member of the Dolphin Scholarship Board.
Mrs. Petro was predeceased by her beloved brother, Norman Heilos Jr.
She is survived by her loving husband, Capt. George Petro; her two children, Brianna and Daniel Petro; her parents, Norman and Betty Heilos, Sea Girt; her brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Karen Heilos, Spring Lake Heights; her sister-in-law Kathy Straus-Heilos, Oceanport.

Richard Rued
Neptune resident, formerly of Union, Richard R. “Ralph” Rued, who had family in Wall Township, died Thursday, Nov. 24 at his daughter’s residence in Wall, surrounded by his family.
He was 78 years old.
Born in Irvington, Mr. Rued lived in Union before moving to Neptune eight years ago. He was a bologna maker and watch maker in Union before retiring. Mr. Rued served in the Junior police in Union and was a veteran of the armed forces serving in the National Guard.
Mr. Rued was predeceased by his wife, Diane.
He is survived by his son, Richard R. Rued, Rockville, Md.; two daughters, Kathleen Rued Hussey and son-in-law, William Hussey, Wall, and Diane Karen Hammon, California; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Carol Rued, Tobyhanna, Pa.; six grandchildren, Erika, Victoria, Joshua, Andrew, Kenneth and Richard; and one great-grandchild, Barak.

Terrence Butler
Spring Lake Heights resident Terrence J. Butler died Friday, Nov. 25 at his residence.
He was 47 years old.
Born in Irvington, N.Y., Mr. Butler had lived in Ossinning, N.Y. before moving to Spring Lake Heights 28 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.
Mr. Butler was predeceased by his parents, Gerard T. and Elizabeth P. O’Sullivan Butler, and a sister, Elizabeth Butler.
He is survived his brother, Timothy P. Butler, Hazlet; a sister, Bonnie Maloney, Congers, N.Y.; and his two aunts, Margaret and Kathleen O’Sullivan, Spring Lake Heights.

Joseph S. Mayo
Belmar resident Joseph S. Mayo, formerly of Newark, died Monday, Nov. 21 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born, raised and educated in Newark, where he resided for 73 years, Mr. Mayo was a member of the Amalgamated Lithographers Union, Local 1 of New York City. He was employed as a roto-gravure with Reynolds Metal and Aluminum of Kearny, retiring of 1982. Mr. Mayo served in the U.S. Army and the W.P.A. He was a member of the Italian American Club of Newark, the Democratic Club of North Newark, member of the Holy Name Society and usher of Immaculate Conception Church, Newark. After moving to Belmar in 1985, he was a communicant, usher and member of the Holy Name Society of St. Elizabeth Church, Avon. Mr. Mayo was dedicated to his family, community and the needy. He was known to have “a heart of gold” because of his adherence to the “golden rule of life.”
Mr. Mayo was predeceased by his parents, Dominic and Carmela Scarano Meo; his wife of 74 years, Lucy E. Pastore Mayo; his daughter, Lucille Mayo Poiani; his brother, Fred Mayo; and his sisters, Rose Sofia and Ida Mayo Lupino.
He is survived his daughter, Ida Ann “Dolly” Hood; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
