Esther Lillian Dewey

The Fairways at Lake Ridge in Lakewood resident Esther Lillian [nee Koehler] Dewey, formerly of Clifton and Mantoloking and who had relatives in Wall Township, died Monday, Oct. 24 at Mountainside Hospital, Glen Ridge, surrounded by her loving family.

She was 85 years old.

Born in in Newark, Mrs. Dewey lived in Clifton and Mantoloking for many years and more recently had lived in Lakewood and Paterson. She was the wife of the late William Dewey, the former Passaic County Republican Chairman, Freeholder and Paterson attorney. Mrs. Dewey was a dedicated homemaker, wife and mother. She loved cooking, entertaining and being surrounded by family and friends. Mrs. Dewey had been employed at the Public Service Company and, during World War II, worked at Arlington Hall Station while her husband served his country. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clifton and was active in Republican politics with her late husband.

Besides being predeceased by her husband, William, Mrs. Dewey was also predeceased by her sister, Ruth Boyle.

She is survived by her loving children, Marilyn E. Campbell and her husband, James B., of Voorhees and Forked River, Linda J. Dewey, of Paterson and Lakewood, Lorraine A. [Lori] Dioguardi and her husband, Kenneth J., of Wall Township, and William D. Dewey and his wife, Cheryl, of Cranford and Normandy Beach. She will also be missed greatly by her six grandchildren, James B. and William D. Campbell, Kenneth W. and Alison J. Dioguardi and Alexa L. and William J. Dewey. She was the sister-in-law of Walter and Janet Dewey, of North Haledon. Mrs. Dewey is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Clifton, 303 Maplewood Ave., Clifton. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn cemetery, Paterson.

Memorial contributions may be made to School for Children, 270 Industrial Way West, Eatontown, 07724 or First Presbyterian Church of Clifton, 303 Maplewood Ave., Clifton, 07013.

Roger Austin Sharp

Brielle resident, formerly of Spring Lake and Glen Rock, Roger Austin Sharp died Sunday, Oct. 23 in his home.

He was 74 years old.

Born in Teaneck, Mr. Sharp lived in Glen Rock before moving to Spring Lake in 1968. He then moved to Brielle seven years later. Mr. Sharp was a graduate of St. Peter’s Prep, Jersey City; Seton Hall University, South Orange; and St. Louis University School of Dentistry, St. Louis, Mo. He was a self-employed dentist in Glen Rock for over 40 years. Mr. Sharp was a Communicant of St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, Sea Girt, and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was also an avid gardener and was known for his beautiful gardens and flowers at his oceanfront home in Spring Lake. Mr. Sharp loved his nieces and nephews as his own children and was Godfather to many of his friends’ children.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harold A. and Helen Byrne Sharp, and his sister, Joan O’Rourke.

Mr. Sharp is survived by his brother and his wife, Dr. Austin R Sharp and Nancy Sharp, of St. Louis, Mo.; his sister and her husband, Janet M. Thomas and Glendon Bell, of Sea Girt; nine nieces and three nephews, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and family are invited to call today from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Bedford Road, Wall Township, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt. Internment will follow in St. Catherine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mr. Sharp’s name to St. Mark’s Church, 215 Third Ave., Sea Girt, 08750.

The O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Trevor Allan Dickson

Trevor Allan Dickson, 23, of Manasquan, died on Oct. 7 in Waimea, Hawaii, while downhill skateboarding at Paauilo.

Trevor was a loving son, caring brother and amazing friend.

He is survived by his loving parents, Allan and Margaret Dickson; a sister and brother-in-law, Abbey and Adam Holloway; two grandmothers, June Wark and Grace Dickson; an aunt and uncle, Mary and Robert Skokos; an aunt, Bonnie Dickson; five cousins, Ian, Jesse and Kate Skokos and Heather and Robert Merriken; his best friend, Catherine Devine; his dog, Emma; and countless friends he touched in his lifetime.

A memorial was held for Trevor on Sunday, Oct. 9 on the Big Island in Waipio Valley, Hawaii.

A memorial will be held locally on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. at the Manasquan Inlet Beach followed by a gathering at Manasquan Volunteer Engine Co. No. 2, 111 Parker Avenue, Manasquan.

Trevor filled others with the happiness he found while surfing, skateboarding and riding his Harleys. His smile and hugs will be missed. Aloha!

Scott T. MacConchie

Wall Township resident Scott T. MacConchie died Monday, Oct. 3 in his home from a massive heart attack.

He was 42 years old.

Mr. MacConchie was a plumber for Pizzolato and Sons Excavating, Belmar. He graduated from Neptune High School and also from Lincoln Tech Institute with a certificate in Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration [HVAC]. He worked for Neptune Township Road Department several years ago. Mr. MacConchie was a member of Hamilton United Methodist Church, Neptune. He was a past member of Shark River Hills Fire Co. Mr. MacConchie loved coaching youth sports. He coached in North Wall Little League Baseball from 1996-2003 and Wall Pop Warner Football from 1998-2004. Mr. MacConchie made an immediate impact on all the children he coached because he made it fun for them. He was an avid golfer. Mr. MacConchie was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a hard worker, a true friend, a real family man who loved spending time with his family.

Mr. MacConchie is survived by his wife, Eileen Cavanagh MacConchie; his two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer MacConchie; his two sons, Anthony and Nicholas Delisa; his mother, Janice M. Rummel, and stepfather, Ray Rummel, of Neptune; his father Thomas MacConchie, of Lakewood; his maternal grandmother, Luella Queen, Neptune; his two brothers, James MacConchie, Neptune, and Thomas MacConchie, Belford; his sister, Lizzie Hendricks of Leonardo, and many nieces and nephews.

John A. Pomianowski

Spring Lake resident John A. Pomianowski died Sunday, Oct. 2 at Neptune Rehab and Care Center, Neptune.

He was 77 years old.

Born and raised on Staten Island, N.Y., Mr. Pomianowski had lived in Holmdel for 27 years before moving to Spring Lake in 1985. He had been employed as a communications consultant for E.G. & G., Fort Monmouth, and prior to this, Mr. Pomianowski had been employed with Sun Oil Co. and NY Telephone Co. He was a member of the Alumni Association of Curtis High School and Wagner College, both of Staten Island. Mr. Pomianowski was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. While living in Holmdel, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America. While residing in Spring Lake, Mr. Pomianowski was a member of the Spring Lake Environmental Commission, serving as a commissioner. He was a member of the Keyport Yacht Club for over 40 years and was also a member of the Shark River Yacht Club and a Communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.

Mr. Pomianowski is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dolores M. Borger Pomianowski; three sons, John C., of Montauk, N.Y., Mark S., of San Francisco, and Eric N., of Red Bank; a grandson, Colin H. White, and two sisters, Helene Gladis, of Monmouth Beach, and Dorothy Faison, of Staten Island, N.Y.

The arrangements were made by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Maryanne V. [Parisi] Kelly

Brick resident, formerly of Spring Lake Heights, Maryanne V. [Parisi] Kelly died Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 72 years old.

Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Kelly lived in Bronxville, N.Y. and Spring Lake Heights before moving to Brick in 1997. She was self-employed as a Home Health Care Aid for 20 years in Brick.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by her husband of 16 years, William M. Kelly; a son, Ronald J. LoPinto, M.D., of Manhasset, N.Y.; a daughter, Linda Vincent, of Madison, Conn.; four stepdaughters, Maureen Sakura, of Hawaii, Mary Costello, of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., Margie Moore, of Wall Township, and Monica Blieler of Falmouth, Mass.; a brother, Rocco Parisi, of Stratford, Conn.; a sister, Diane Cuomo, of North Haven, Conn.; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her honor to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd St., New York, N.Y. 10016.

Dr. Juan Ruperto Ravens

Father of Avon-by-the-Sea resident Lucille “Lucia” Ravens, Juan Ruperto Ravens, M.D. died Monday, Oct. 3 at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.

He was 84 years old.

Born March 27, 1921, in Casa Grande, Peru, Mr. Ravens received his degrees in Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine and Surgery in his native Peru. He traveled to further his studies and research in the areas of neuro-anatomy in Argentina and Europe. Dr. Ravens spent several years in Germany and Spain before coming to the United States in 1950. Upon his arrival in the U.S., he worked at the University Hospital and Graduate Hospital of Penn State University, where he remained for twelve years. Dr. Ravens moved on to Bowman Gray Medical School, Winston-Salem, N.C., where, in 1962, he was teaching courses in pathology and continued his work in research. Dr. Raven was one of the founding members of the Rutgers Medical School in Piscataway, later re-named the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey [UMDNJ]. He held the post of staff member, as an associate professor in pathology, at Rutgers Medical School, New Brunswick, until his retirement in 1992. In 1985, Dr. Ravens was awarded the highest decoration the government of Peru can bestow on a civilian, “The Order of Hipolito Unanue,” named for the founder of the San Fernando Medical School, Lima, Peru. The award was given in recognition of his 35 years of contributions to medical education in the field of neurosciences by the President of Peru, Fernando Belaunde Terry. Dr. Ravens was a busy researcher, giving conferences, lectures and presentations throughout the world. His book “The Cerebrovascular System and its Intraparenchymanl Anastomoses” was published in 1987. In 2001, he was honored with a bronze plaque, placed in the Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo Hospital in Peru. This Lifetime Achievement Award was in recognition of excellent in the study, teaching and research of neuropathology by the Institute of Neurological Science, Lima. He is also the recipient of several medals and awards for his work in the field of neurology: the Rudolf Virchow Award and the Order of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella from the government of the Dominican Republic as recognition for his years of work in that country. Dr. Ravens was granted the title of honorary professor at Trujillo University, Peru, as well as honorary professor at the University of San Marcos, also in Lima. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick.

Dr. Ravens is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucille A. Ravens; two sons, George Rupert Ravens, of Montclair, and John Rupert Ravens, of Bayonne; two daughters, Lucille “Lucia” Ravens, and her companion Rich Menzel, of Avon-by-the-Sea, and Ann Marie Ravens, of Los Angeles; two grandsons, Everett Rupert Ravens and Gavin Rupert Ravens, both of Montclair, and several family members in Peru.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to a non-profit organization being started in Dr. Ravens’ honor by his children to help individuals with brain injuries: J.R. Ravens Neurological Injury Foundation, P.O. Box 43491, Montclair, 07043.

Peter T. LaVance

Spring Lake resident Peter T. LaVance died Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 73 years old.

Born in Spring Lake and a life-long resident, Mr. LaVance was a U.S. Army Veteran, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a former captain, president and secretary of the Spring Lake First Aid Squad. Mr. LaVance was also a member and exempt member of the Spring Lake Fire Company No. 1 since 1957. He was a member of the Asbury Masonic Lodge and the Spring Lake American Legion Post No. 432. Mr. LaVance was the Teenage Trophy Winner at the Gravel Pits. He was the 1955 Wall Sportsman Champion. Mr. Lavance flagged the Daytona Time Trials in February, 2005. He was an original member o the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club and the Shore Auto Race Club, a flagger and driver at Wall Stadium, and a NASCAR Official at Wall Stadium.

Mr. LaVance owned and operated Pete LaVance & Sons Auto Repair, Neptune, for 36 years, retiring in 1998. Prior to that, he worked for the Borough of Spring Lake, Department of Public Works, from 1954 to 1959 and for Alan Thiele Tire from 1959 until opening his own business in 1962.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January, 2005. Mr. LaVance is also survived by two sons, Richard T. LaVance, Wall Township, and Peter G. LaVance, Brick; a daughter, Gayle LaVance, Ocean; a brother, John LaVance, Manasquan; and four grandchildren, Peter, Jason, Cody and Jessyka LaVance.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions made in the memory of Mr. LaVance to the Spring Lake First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 94, Spring Lake, 07762.

Donald R. De Graaf

Brother of Brielle resident Ruth Harms, Donald R. De Graaf died Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Mercy Hospital, Fairfield.

He was 71 years old.

Born in Passaic, Mr. De Graaf was a longtime resident of Clifton before moving to Ohio three years ago. A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, he retired in 1995 as an engineer with Public Service Electric & Gas. Co. in Jersey City after five years of service. Previously, Mr. De Graaf was employed as a plant manager for the Athenia Steel Division of the National Standard Company in Clifton. He was a former vice president, secretary and treasurer of the Clifton Lions Club and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Passaic-Clifton Chamber of Commerce. He served in the U.S. Army after the Korean Conflict. Mr. De Graaf was a member of St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wayne, and the John Wesley United Methodist Church, Cincinnati. He is a former member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clifton, where he was a member of the church’s Men’s Club and served on the church council.

Mr. De Graaf was predeceased by his first wife, the former Shirley M. Ambrose.

He is survived by his second wife, the former Louise Calafiore Post; two daughters, Karen Erickson, of Sparta, and Amy Taranto, of Wayne; four stepdaughters, Jennifer Blakeslee, of Welsley, Fla., Elizabeth Bishop, of Cincinnati, Susan Stuhr, of Highland Ranch, Colo., and Rebecca March, of St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Ruth Harms, of Brielle; a mother-in-law, Margit Ambrose, of Sparta; and eight grandchildren.

The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Building Fund of John Wesley, United Methodist Church, 1927 W. Kemper Road, Cincinnati, OH, 45240.

Paul R. Rapisardi

Wall Township resident Paul R. Rapisardi died Saturday, Oct. 8 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

He was 57 years old.

Born in Paterson, Mr. Rapisardi grew up in Short Hills before moving to Wall Township in 1972. He graduated in 1965 from Milburn High School and graduated from C. W. Post University in Long Island in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Rapisardi was a partner in Crown Beer Distributors, Inc. since May, 1969. He also served as vice president and president, as well as partner and CEO for the company since November 2002. He previously owned Woodlake Oldsmobile in Lakewood, Peugeot-Saab, Wall, Crown Motors of Point Pleasant and Ambassador Limousine, formally located in Wall. He also was a partner in The Old Mill Travel Agency. Mr. Rapisardi was a member of the State Police 200 Club, the Republican Club in Wall, the Manasquan Elks and a former member of the Wall Chamber of Commerce and the Wall Planning Board.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mirto Rapisardi; his daughters, Melissa Anne and Victoria Anne, both of Wall; his stepson, James Burdge, of Farmingdale; his stepmother, Evelyn Rapisardi, of Elberon; his sister, Wendy Rapisardi Jones; his stepsisters, Alyssa Rogers and Leslie DeAngelo; his niece and nephew, Cara and Adam Jones, of Interlaken, and his uncle, John Rapisardi.

Mr. Rapisardi is predeceased by his father, Ralph, and his mother, Anne.

Visiting hours are on Thursday at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will begin on Friday at 8:30 a.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home and then followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, Manasquan.

The family has announced that donations may be made in his name to the American Red Cross or the South Wall Fire Company located at 2605 Atlantic Ave., Allenwood, 08720

Mildred Noir Owen

Manasquan resident Mildred Noir Owen died Friday, Oct. 7 in her home.

She was 90 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Owen lived in Manasquan for the past 55 years.

Mrs. Owen was predeceased by her husband, Jack.

She is survived by her daughter, Jill, of Manasquan; her daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Christopher Holt, of Severna Park, Md., and son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Sandra Owen, of Apex, N.C.

The family would appreciate donations be made to the Wall Community First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 166, Allenwood, 08720.

The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert T. Blair

Manasquan resident Robert T. Blair died Saturday, Oct. 8 at Laurelton Village, Brick Township.

He was 87 years old.

Born in Nutley, Mr. Blair was a resident of Manasquan for 64 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in France during World War II. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross. Mr. Blair was a member and exempt member of Volunteer Engine Company #2 in Manasquan as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1838, Manasquan. He owned and operated Blair’s Taxi in Manasquan for 20 years and retired in 1982. Prior to that, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as well as being employed by the Manasquan National Bank. Mr.Blair also worked as an auto mechanic at Hills Motors in Manasquan and held a position as a paid firefighter at Fort Hancock and Lakehurst Naval Air Station.

He is survived by his wife, Arline Mitchell Blair; his son, Roger T. Blair, of Brick Township; four daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Bill Royson, of Manasquan, Barbara and Richard Conner, of Gilsum, N.H., Lynn and Donald Chapman, of New Egypt, Carol and Johnny Nilsen, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Adelette Thompson, of Englishtown, Evan Lou McClaren, of Columbus, and June Smith, of Freehold; grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Blair, Nancy Dietz, Sherry Bourassa, Carrie Conner, Melissa McCroskey, Corinna, Kelsey and Briana Nilsen, and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Blair is predeceased by his brother, Robert, of Cream Ridge.

Visiting hours will be held at the Neary Quinn Funeral Home 39 South St., Manasquan on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The Fireman’s Service will be Saturday evening at 8:15 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be receiving visitors on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Blair’s residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Manasquan Volunteer Engine Company Number 2, 111 Parker Ave, Manasquan, or to the Manasquan-Sea Girt First Aid Squad, 65 Broad St., Manasquan.
