Anthony S. Genovese
Sea Girt resident Anthony S. Genovese died Thursday, March 17 in the Jersey Medical Shore Center, Neptune.
He was 69 years old.
Born in Long Island City, NY, he had lived in Union City and then in Sea Girt for the past 15 years. Mr. Genovese was a partner in the law firm of Robinson, Brog, Lienwand, Genovese & Gluck, New York City. He was a member of the Bamm Hollow Country Club, Middletown, and was a member of the American Bar Association. Mr. Genovese was a graduate of U.V.A. and U.V.A. Law School.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Maureen (nee White) Genovese; six children, Marta Pourshalchi, Long Island, NY; Caroline Reilly, Long Island; Deborah Santaniello, Cream Ridge; Joseph Genovese, Manhattan; Christine Genovese, Philadelphia; Lindsay Genovese, Philadelphia; and seven grandchildren, Roya, Grace, Patrick, Katie, Scott, Jack, and Toni Rose.
Funeral arrangements were from O’Brien Funeral Home.

Vera Goodwin Cook
Manchester resident Vera Goodwin Cook, who has family in Wall Township, died Thursday, March 17 in her home at the Bey Lea Village, Toms River.
She was 79 years old.
Born in West Belmar, she lived most of her life in Wall before moving to Manchester in 1985. She was a secretary to the wire chief of Bell Telephone in Asbury Park before raising her family. Later, she worked for the Monmouth County T.B. Control.
Mrs. Cook was predeceased by her husband, George P. Cook.
She is survived by three daughters, Gail Winsor, Wall; Sharon Crosthwait, Marlton; and Bonnie Dunbar and husband Bob, Toms River. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Chris Winsor, Shayne Kmiec, and Morial Croswaith.
Funeral arrangements were from the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall Twp.

Richard R. Rooney
Spring Lake resident Richard R. Rooney died Friday, March 18 in his home.
He was 79 years old.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Belleville before moving to Spring Lake in 1957.
Mr. Rooney was the Mayor of Spring Lake Heights from 1976-1980 and had served as a Councilman for 4 terms prior to being the Mayor. He had been employed for 42 years as a manager with Verizon, Neptune before retiring in 1985. Mr. Rooney had also been employed as a home inspector for Connelly, Campion & Wright Insurance Agency, Belmar, for 10 years. He was a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club and a member of the Spring Lake Heights Planning Board. He was also a communicant of St. Catharine’s & St. Margaret’s Church, Spring Lake.
Mr. Rooney was predeceased by his first wife Jane in 1983.
He is survived by his wife Anna Marie Dallakian Rooney; two daughters and their husbands, Pamela and Ken Thoman, Atlantic Highlands; Susan and William Ruggiero, Smith Mountain Lake, VA; and two grandchildren, Ashlee and Benjamin Ruggiero.

Jaques 'Jack' Feder
Brielle resident Jaques “Jack” Feder died Friday, March 18 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
Raised in Hillside, Mr. Feder moved to the Jersey Shore area in 1966. He had been a resident of Brielle for the past 28 years. After retiring as a police officer from Hillside, he worked at Miller Yacht Sales, Bay Head. Mr. Feder was a member of the Azure Masada Lodge F & M, Cranford, and the Order of Elks, Hillside.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirlee, Brielle; daughter Jacqueline Downey and her husband Jim, Howell; and two grandchildren, Jimmy and Jennifer.

Aloysius F. Cashman
Wall Township resident Aloysius F. Cashman died Sunday, March 20 in Sunnyside Manor, Wall.
He was 90 years old.
Born in Bayonne, he lived in Staten Island, NY before moving to Wall 30 years ago. He had been employed as a chemist at Exxon Corporation, Bayonne for 37 years before retiring in 1979. Mr. Cashman held 18 U.S. patents. He was a graduate of St. Peter’s College, Jersey City. He was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, and had been a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, Staten Island. Mr. Cashman was also a member of the American Chemical Society, the Manasquan Elks Lodge, and the Knights of Columbus Council, Bayonne. He was also the 1982 Flight “C” Champion at Howell Park Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy (nee O’Neill) Cashman; five sons and their wives, John and Sally, Middletown; James and Michelle, Red Bank; Mark and Nancy, Yonkers, NY; Richard and Jeanne, White Plains, NY; and Kevin and Maureen, Fanwood; daughter and her husband Marilyn and Steve Long, Staten Island; ten grandchildren, Corrin, Jay, Christopher, Courtney, John, Matthew, Keith, Bryan, Gregory, and Dylan; sister Patricia Murphy, Bayonne; and five great-grandchildren.

Maudie Mortimer
Wall Township resident Maudie Mortimer died Sunday, March 20 in the Tower Lodge Care Center, Wall.
She was 94 years old.
Born in Howell, she was a lifelong resident of Wall. Mrs. Mortimer was a waitress for many years, working in many Jersey Shore restaurants including the Dinner Bell in Manasquan. She also worked at Analytical Measurements in West Belmar before retiring. Mrs. Mortimer was a member of the Pride of Wall Seniors and a member of the Wall United Methodist Church, Wall.
Mrs. Mortimer was predeceased by her first husband, Page LaFetra, second husband Thomas Mortimer, and son Ronald LaFetra.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Carol Ann LaFetra; three grandchildren, Katy Snyder, Karen Levers, and Keith LaFetra; and five great-grandchildren.

Annemarie Sheridan
Spring Lake resident Annemarie (nee Hanken) Sheridan died Wednesday, March 23 in his home.
She was 74 years old.
Born in Luebeck, Germany, she came to the United States in 1962, and lived in New York City until she moved to Spring Lake in 1969.
Mrs. Sheridan was a longtime Communicant of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, and a former volunteer for St. Catherine’s School, both of Spring Lake. She was a homemaker and loving mother to her three children. Mrs. Sheridan had been a volunteer for the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, and had knitted over 500 baby hats for the hospital’s maternity ward. She was well known for the many Irish soda breads she baked for church bazaars, the clergy, and for many friends.
Mrs. Sheridan was predeceased by her husband Andrew M. Sheridan. in June of 2000.
She is survived by her son Cornelius, Spring Lake, her daughter Thea Sheridan, Belmar, her daughter Andrea and her husband Rick Rodgers, Wall, and her sister Ingrid Schula, Leubeck, Germany.
Visitation will be from on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m at the O’Brien Funeral Home., Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A service will be held on Tuesday, March 29 at 9 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake. Interment will follow at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

Cort C. Gorham
Cort C. Gorham, the ultimate optimist, passed away at his home on Monday, Jan. 23.
He was 74 years old.
Mr. Gorham’s greatest loves were his wife, Adair, of 48 years, his four children and grandchildren. His other loves included skiing, fishing, reading, cooking and above all golf, both playing and instructing family and friends. Cort was also known for his patriotism and unwavering love for his country. His family spent summers in Manasquan in the 1930’s and 1940’s and Cort served as a Manasquan lifeguard during his college years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A graduate of Lafayette College, he was an executive at Klopman Mills, New York City, before moving his family to their summer home in Spring Lake in 1969, where he purchased Young’s Office Supply and operated it for 25 years. He was a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club and an active member of the Spring Lake Planning Board and Board of Education. Cort and his wife moved to the Killington area of Vermont in 1990 in pursuit of their passion for skiing and golf. They spent the last three years on the southern coast of North Carolina in Sneads Ferry. He was a life-long loyalist to the New York Giants and the New York Rangers. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his four children, seven, soon to be eight, grandchildren and friends.
Mr. Gorham is survived by his wife, Adair; his three daughters, and their spouses, Krislee and Hal Hall, Sea Girt, Katy and David DiBernardo, Sea Girt, Andrea and Richard Cherkis, Orono, Maine; his son, Cort, and his wife, Rebecca Gorham, Brielle; his grandchildren, Baylee, Brewster and Maddison Cherkis, Kelsey and Hannah DiBernardo, and Alexx and Charlie Hall.
Cort will be best remembered for his famous Creamed Chip Beef on Christmas morning, his out going personality, his ability to make the “best” of every situation and always living every moment to the fullest.

Joyce Ann Lukacs
Georgetown, Del., resident Joyce Ann Lukacs, formerly of Homestead, Fla. and Washington, D.C. died Tuesday, Jan. 31 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del.
She was 77 years old.
Born in Bradley Beach, Mrs. Lukacs was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Hazel E [Phelps] Rogers. She was raised in Manasquan, and then Spring Lake Heights. For many years, before moving to Homestead, Fla., Mrs. Lukacs was a home health aide and secretary for a Lutheran Church. She was a librarian assistant for Miami Dade City in Florida or six years, before retiring in 1990. Mrs. Lukacs enjoyed traveling and reading.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Charles W. Rogers Jr., in 1983, and her son, Charles D. Forrest, in 1996.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Ed M. Lukacs; her two sons, Dean W Forrest, and his wife, Judith A., Barnegat, Mark A Forrest, and his wife, Joan, Tuckerton; her eight grandchildren, Daniel Forrest, Derek Forrest, Dawn Forrest, Diana Forrest, Matthew Forrest, Cori Forrest, Ryan Forrest and Kimberly Forrest; and her great-grandson, Ryan Forrest, Jr.

Nancy Granite
Brielle resident Nancy Granite, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., died Thursday, Feb. 2 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, New York City.
She was 72 years old.
Born in Calabria, Italy, Mrs. Granite came to the United States in 1938, settling in Brooklyn, N.Y. She moved to Staten Island in 1983 before coming to Brielle last year. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, Manasquan, and was a former member of Lady of Pity in Staten Island.
Mrs. Granite was predeceased by her daughter, Dawn Granite, in 1993, and her daughter-in-law, Teresa Ann Granite, in 2002.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Carmine Paul Granite; her son, Michael Paul, Manasquan; her daughter and son-in-law, Debra Ann and Salvatore Formica, Staten Island, N.Y.; her sister, Marie Lopergallo, Long Island, N.Y.; and her five beloved grandchildren, Gianna, Philip, Nicole, Steven and Jonelle.

Marilyn E. Sova [nee Hughes]
Belmar resident Marilyn E. Sova died Sunday, Feb. 5 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 58 years old.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Sova lived in Kearny before moving to Belmar 20 years ago.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Eugene M.; her brothers, John Hughes, Stephen Hughes, and his wife, Margie, Joseph Hughes, and his wife, Patricia; her cousin, Michael Dolan, Brielle; her friend Elizabeth Kemtz, Florida, who was Mrs. Sova’s maid of honor; her sister-in-law, Leona Kozuch, and her husband, Michael, North Alrington; her brothers-in-law, Bernard Sova, Lyndhurst, and Edward Sova, Bayonne.
The Parow Funeral Home, North Arlington, was in charge of arrangements.

Miriam L. Franklin
Manasquan resident Miriam L. Franklin died Monday, Jan. 2 at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston.
She was 81 years old.
Born in East Orange, Mrs. Franklin resided in East Orange before moving to Manasquan in 1964. She was employed by the Borough of Manasquan from 1984-1989 in the tax office. Mrs. Franklin was the Secretary of the Manasquan Chamber of Commerce, serving since 1989.
She was predeceased by her husband, John L. Franklin, in 1998.
Mrs. Franklin is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Franklin Ferchak and Lawrence Ferchak Sr., Livingston; her grandchildren, Lawrence Ferchak Jr., Springfield, William Ferchak, Florham Park, Linda Ferchak, Little Egg Harbor; her sister, Laura Bogstahl, Maplewood; and her brother, Richard Bogstahl, West Orange.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Richard L. Van Pelt
Allentown resident Richard L. Van Pelt, formerly of Brielle, died Sunday, Feb. 5 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer..
He was 77 years old.
Mr. Van Pelt retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad after 40 years of dedicated service as a conductor. He was the proprietor of Hickory Ridge Horse Farm in Allentown, and Wild Horse Ranch in McAlester, Okla. His love for farming and horses was only surpassed by his love for his family. Born in Long Branch, Mr. Van Pelt had lived in Holmdel, Brielle for 15 years and the Allenwood section of Wall Township for 15 years before moving to Allentown 20 years ago.
He was predeceased by his sister, Grace Fulton.
Mr. Van Pelt is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Laurette [nee Fox] Van Pelt; his children and their spouses, Shirley and Thomas Schwier, Manasquan, Richard and Cynthia Van Pelt, Manasquan, Deborah A. and Daniel DiArchangel, Tinton Falls, and James and Michelle Van Pelt, McAlester, Okla.; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Bernie Van Pelt, Point Pleasant; his brother-in-law, Jack Fulton, West Long Branch; his grandchildren, Heather and Brad Krasowski, Thomas Schwier, Daniel R. DiArchangel, Jessie and Matthew Van Pelt, Austin Van Pelt, Brandon and Danielle Kemp, and Lindsay and Rick Hernandez; his great-grandchildren, Emma and Brad Krasowski, and Adelyn and Dominic Hernandez, as well as many nieces and nephews.
