Donald James Ahern
Spring Lake resident Donald James Ahern died Thursday, Feb. 3 in the Heath Nursing Care Center in Heath, Ohio.
He was 82 years old.
Born in Watervliet, N.Y., Mr. Ahern lived in Spring Lake for many years before moving to Ohio 10 years ago.
Mr. Ahern was the manager of the building and grounds at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Sea Girt. Earlier he was an engineer for Bendix in Eatontown for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a civil engineer and retired as a captain in 1952 and then as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force in 1981.
Mr. Ahern was also a trustee at St. Catharine’s Boy Scouts of America Troop 31, a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. While in Ohio he was a communicant of St. Edwards Church, Granville, Ohio.
Mr. Ahern was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Malloy Ahern, in 2002.
Surviving are two sons, James J., Ohio, and Thomas D. and his wife, Robin, Maplewood; five daughters, Marianne and her husband, Jim Kelly, Wall, Terry and her husband, Jack Kelly, Wall, Liz Henry, Ohio, Maureen and her husband, Bob Wantz, Ohio, and Margaret and her husband, Gary Jenkins, Delaware; brother Ed Ahern, Point Pleasant Beach; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Mary Jeanne Cerra
Howell resident Mary Jeanne Cerra, whose family lives in Wall Township, died Thursday, Feb. 3 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 49 years old.
Mrs. Cerra was a dedicated secretary for Kelson & Merves Certified Public Accountants, LLC, in Howell until her passing. Previously she was an office manager at Johnson & Johnson in Hightstown for many years. She was also a volunteer for the Parent Teachers Association and was a leader for the Boy Scouts of America, both in Howell. Mrs. Cerra was a communicant of St. Veronica’s Church, Howell. She had a love and passion for gardening, cooking and arts and crafts.
Mrs. Cerra was a loving, caring mother, daughter and sister. She will be sadly missed by many good friends and relatives.
Mrs. Cerra was predeceased by her father, Vincent J. Cerra Jr., in 1994.
She is survived by her son, Robert Thomas Pullen, daughters Amy Mae Pullen and Chelsea Pullen, all at home; mother, Irene Toye Cerra, Wall; brother, Vincent J. and his wife, Kim Cerra, Keyport; sisters, Lucy and her husband, Gerald Melillo, Manalapan, Patricia M. Cerra, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Irene and her husband, Joseph Kerber, Neptune City.
Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Kathryn Mary Keelan
Ocean Grove resident Kathryn Mary Keelan, whose family lives in Wall Township, died Wednesday, Feb. 2 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 87 years old.
Born and raised in Keansburg, she had lived in Middletown and Holmdel before moving to Ocean Grove five years ago. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt. She was a loving “nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“Everyone who knew her loved her, and she was a very caring person,” the Keelan family said of her.
She was predeceased by her husband, John A. Keelan, in 1982.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, John Peter and Patricia Keelan, Toms River, and Catherine and Peter Clarke, Wall; grandchildren and their spouses Peter and Brook Clarke, Kevin and Christa Clarke, Michele and Andrew Weisbrot, and Shannon, John, and David Keelan, and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Laim, Olivia, and Renee Clarke.

August E. Sieben
Spring Lake Heights resident August E. Sieben died Sunday, Feb. 6 in the Neptune Convalescent Center, Neptune.
He was 88 years old.
Born and raised in Hoboken, Mr. Sieben lived in Bayonne and then in Neptune for 14 years before moving to Spring Lake Heights 14 years ago.
He had been employed as an airplane inspector for the British Occidental Corporation, Murray Hill, for 30 years retiring in 1978. He was also a life member of Western Electric Retired Employee Association.
Mr. Sieben is survived by his wife of 26 year, Margaret Donnenberg Sieben; a son and his wife, Douglas and Eva, Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Geraldine and Lorraine Sieben, Bayonne; three grandchildren, Annette Sieben, Gina and her husband, Brent Euell, and Lisa Sieben, and three great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to call today from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall Township. Interment to follow in St. Anne’s cemetery, Wall.
Catherine Kerwick Casey
Sea Girt resident Catherine Kerwick Casey died Sunday, Feb. 6 in her home.
Born in East Trenton, she resided there until moving to Sea Girt in 1973.
Mrs. Casey was a homemaker.
She was a graduate of Cathedral High School and a member of the Cathedral Alumni Association; St. Joseph’s Parish Altar Rosary Society and the Parent Teacher Association; the Mount Carmel Guild and St. Mark’s Parish, Sea Girt.
Mrs. Casey is the daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen Burns Kerwick. She was also predeceased by her husband, Robert Casey; sisters and brothers, James, Mary K. Brennen, Julia, Ellen, Joseph and John Kerwick, all of Trenton.
She is survived by her daughter with whom she resided, Colette C. Casey, Sea Girt; three sons, Robert P., Washington Crossing, Pa., Joseph C., Newton Square, Pa., and Denis P., Bethany Beach, Del.; eight grandchildren, Anne, Elizabeth, Robert, Jennifer Maier, Sean, Sarah, Lauren Nestor and Erin, sisters-in-law, Catherine LeBras Kerwick, Manasquan, and Helen Sinclair, Trenton, and also many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held today at 10:30 a.m. from the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Trenton at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery. Visiting will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Joan Kinkead Russoniello
Avon-by-the-Sea resident Joan Kinkead Russoniello died Tuesday, Feb. 8 in her home.
She was 86 years old.
Born and raised in Jersey City, she lived there before coming to Avon 44 years ago.
Mrs. Russoniello was a homemaker. She was a member of the Avon Leisure Citizens and was an active communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Avon, serving as a eucharistic minister, volunteering with pastoral care at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. She was also a member of the First Friday Club at St. Elizabeth’s.
Mrs. Russoniello was very athletic in her earlier years, was an avid and very strong swimmer and often traveled locally by bicycle. She was very generous and kind, caring for her family as well as many devoted friends and neighbors. Her family would like to extend special thanks to the Wasacz, Martin, Hulse and Delaney families.
Mrs. Russoniello was predeceased by her parents, Judge Robert V. and Annette Sheridan Kinkead.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Kinkead Russoniello, Michael Amato Russoniello Jr., Thomas F.X. Russoniello, and Patrick Joseph Russoniello; daughters, Marie Russoniello-Mead, Joan Russoniello-Goba, Annette Russoniello-Peck and Therese Russoniello; 31 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She also leaves sisters, Patricia Rasmusson and Jacqueline Flaherty.
Visiting will be today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. The funeral service will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s, Avon on Friday at 10:30 a.m. followed by committal at Holy Name cemetery, Jersey City.

Florence DeRosa Gill
Jersey City resident Florence DeRosa Gill, whose family lives in Sea Girt, died Saturday, Feb. 12 in the Claremont Care Center.
She was 94 years old.
Born and raised in Jersey City, she was the beloved daughter of Jerry and Mary DeRosa. Mrs. Gill spent many happy occasions at the Candle Club affairs, and her monthly card game with “chips and dip” and the “Jolly” girls of Jersey City. Mrs. Gill was a sweet, kind and wonderful person who always put herself last. She was respected and admired by many for her gentle ways. Her family is grateful to the caring staff at Claremont, where she resided for almost four years. Her family and friends were blessed by her presence and she will be deeply and fondly missed.
Mrs. Gill was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Peter and Thomas, and her much loved husband, Martin Joseph in 1974.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Richard M. and his wife Lauren, Sea Girt; granddaughter, Drs. Lauren Gill and husband John Hayser, Avon; grandson and great-grandson, Dr. Richard M. Gill Jr. and Jack H. Gill, both of Wall; “baby” brother, Jerry and his wife Ann; niece, Dr. Mary Ann DeRosa and her husband Jack McFadden, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her extended family who took care of her when she lived in Jersey City — Dina Wojtkiewicz, Margaret Bier and the Venezias.

Lillian Langheld
Brick Township resident Lillian Langheld, whose son and daughter-in-law live in Brielle, died Sunday, Feb. 6 in her home.
She was 100 years old.
Born in Newark, she lived in Irvington for over 40 years before moving to Whiting in 1979 and then to Brick in 2000. Mrs. Langheld was a homemaker and a member of the Second Reformed Church of Irvington and the National Turners North and South.
She was predeceased by her husband, John L. “Roy,” in 2003.
Mrs. Langheld is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John. L and Linda, Brielle; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and George Crothers, of California, and grandchildren, Tracie, Jennifer, Dennis and Tyler.

Monsignor Samuel Carl Constance
Lawrenceville resident Monsignor Samuel Carl Constance, formerly of Sea Girt, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6 in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton.
He was 81 years old.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong resident there. Monsignor Constance was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He graduated from St. Mary’s College in 1951 and following graduation attended Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary from 1951-55. He was ordained into the priesthood in 1955 and went on to serve at Our Lady of Peace in Fords, St. Margaret Mary Mission in Edison, and St. Bernadette in Parlin for six years.
Monsignor Constance served at the Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach for 21 years and later served as Pastor at St. Marks Church in Sea Girt for 12 years. He was elevated as a Prelate of Honor with the title of Reverend Monsignor by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1993. Monsignor Constance also served as the director of the Christian Youth Organization and Sodality in the Middlesex and Amboy area, as Judge of Tribunal, heard confessions of various convents and served as the Diocesean Director of Holy Name Society.
He was predeceased by his parents, Violet Marie and Carl J. Constance; sister, Agnes Nitti; brother-in-law, Francis G. Carella and brother, Anthony Nitti
Monsignor Constance is survived by his sister, Violet Constance Carella; thirteen nieces and nephews, Anthony, Carl and Robert Nitti, Susan Grafton, Debra Meehan, Frederick, Francis, Carl, James, Thomas and Paul Carella, Constance Dalton and Joan Carella, and all of their spouses. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and many great great nieces and nephews.

Helen F. Hansen Anderson
Ocean Grove resident Helen F. Hansen Anderson, formerly of Wall Township and Belmar, died Sunday, Feb. 13 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 77 years old.
Born in Neptune, she had lived in Wall, Belmar and then in Brick Township for 11 years, before moving to Ocean Grove a year ago.
Mrs. Anderson was employed as a home health aide at Family and Childrens Services, Long Branch. She also worked as a bus driver for the Wall Township Board of Education. She was a member of the Belmar Women’s Club, the Forever Young Club of the Neptune Senior Citizens, and a lifelong member of the Wall United Methodist Church, Spring Lake Heights.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Fred Hansen Jr., in 1972, and her second husband, Raymond in 1977.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her two sons, Carl and his wife Julie Hansen, Asbury Park and James and his wife Lori Hansen, Brick; a daughter, Margaret and her husband George Guzzio, Commerce Township, Mich., and four grandchildren.

Elizabeth Durand
Manasquan resident Elizabeth Durand died Monday, Feb. 14 at the Geraldine Thompson Care Center, Allenwood.
She was 102 years old.
Ms. Durand was born in Manasquan and resided there most of her life. She graduated from Asbury Park High School and went to Juilliard School of Music in New York City. She was an accomplished golfer and tennis player, as well as an avid New York Mets fan. Ms. Durand was in complete control of her facilities to the very end. She was a woman of great intelligence and wisdom, and was an advisor to many people who sought her advice.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Frank Durand.
Ms. Durand is survived by her niece, Mary Elizabeth Cooke and her husband the Rev.Peter S. Cooke; nephew, Frank Durand Jr.; six grand nieces and nephews, and three great nieces and nephews.
