Upon retirement, Col. Mooty pursued his lifelong love of dogs and accepted an offer from the American Kennel Club in New York City to hold the office of secretary for 18 years. He bred and showed collies and English bull terriers, and, of late, Gordon setters, all champion pedigree showdogs. Col. Mooty was president of the Monmouth County Kennel Club as well as president of the SPCA of Monmouth County. He was a member of the Order of Daedalians — The National Fraternity of Military Pilots, and an active member of the National Rifle Association. Col.
