Margaret C. Ward
Spring Lake resident Margaret C. Ward died Wednesday, Sept. 29 in her home.
She was 90 years old.
Born in County Monahan, Ireland, Ms. Ward had resided in Spring Lake for 50 years.
Ms. Ward was employed with S.S. Adams in Bradley Beach before retiring and was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Spring Lake.
She is survived by her brother, Michael Ward, Ireland, and her sister, Mary Morgan, England. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and devoted friends.
Visiting hours will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall Township. The funeral will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, a funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret’s Church, located on Third Avenue in Spring Lake, at 9:30 a.m., followed by committal in St. Catharine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

Bernadette Watters
Scottsdale, Ariz. resident Bernadette Whelan Watters, whose daughter lives in Brielle, died Sunday, Oct. 3 after a brief illness.
She was 88 years old.
Born in Grantwood to Joseph and Mary Ellen Whelan in 1916, she married Col. John Watters in 1937. They raised two daughters, Bernadette and Maureen, in Sea Girt.
More recently, Mrs. Watters maintained a house in Brielle, but eventually fell in love with Scottsdale, where she lived with her sister, Irene, for over 20 years.
She was an avid reader, award-winning needlepointer, multi-talented artist, and expert crossword puzzler.
Her family remembers her as a loving, generous, intelligent, woman who is already greatly missed.
She is survived by her sister, Irene Watters, Scottsdale; daughters, Bernadette “Bizi” Reidy, Brielle, and Maureen Watters, Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Bernadette, Phoenix, James and his wife Dori, Milford, Conn., Kathleen and her husband Elliot, Arlington, Va., and Irene and her husband John, New York, and four great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Mary Claire, Ellie and Andy.
A funeral Mass will take place in Arizona. Funeral arrangements were from the Whitney and Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home, Phoenix.

Margaret M. Vitale
Avon-by-the-Sea resident Margaret M. Queenan Vitale died Sunday, Sept. 19 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 96 years old.
Born and raised in Newark, Mrs. Vitale lived in Springfield before moving to Avon in 1958.
She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Avon, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society of the church.
She was a member of the Leisure Citizens of Avon by the Sea.
She was predeceased in 1962 by her husband, Michael C. Vitale.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Bettyanne, Avon, and John and B. and Carol,Spring Lake Heights; one daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” A. Cicchelli, Wall Township; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

John Connelly Meehan
Spring Lake resident John Connelly Meehan died Saturday, Sept. 18 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 42 years old.
John was a life-long resident of Spring Lake.
He was a 1980 graduate of Manasquan High School, where he served as captain of both the football and baseball teams, and led the football team to win the B-South Conference championship in 1979. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Montclair State College in 1984.
John ran a successful landscaping business in the area and was known for hiring many young locals.
He was a lover of the outdoors, especially the beach, and during the summer was often found showing off his dives at the South End Pool.
He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by everyone.
He was predeceased by his father, Hugh B. Meehan Sr.
Surviving are one daughter, Alexandra, Tinton Falls; his mother, Frances Meehan, Spring Lake; four brothers, George, Louis and Michael, all of Spring Lake, and Hugh, Spring Lake Heights; five sisters, Kathryn, Spring Lake, Maree Louise, Spring Lake Heights, Frances, Spring Lake, Maude, Memphis, Tenn., and Eve, Spring Lake Heights; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Curt Michael Colucci
North Carolina resident Curt Michael Colucci, formerly of Manasquan, died Thursday, Sept. 16.
He was 40 years old.
Born in Plainfield, Mr. Colucci lived in Manasquan before moving to North Carolina.
He was employed as a finance manager with National Auto, Wilmington, N.C.
He will live on in the hearts of the many people he touched.
Surviving are his family, Michael, Jason and Casie Madden, and Christine, Monica and Dominic Bassone; his parents, Paul and Carol Colucci; two brothers, John C. and Geoffrey E. Colucci; and his grandmothers, Henrietta Mousted, and Theresa Manelski.

Frances S. Newman
Manasquan resident Frances Salustro Newman died Friday, Sept. 17 in Renaissance Gardens, Tinton Falls.
She was 82 years old.
Born in Neptune, Mrs. Newman lived in Brielle for 40 years before moving to Manasquan in 1997.
Mrs. Newman, along with her late husband, were the original owners of Brielle Furniture for over 37 years before their retirement.
She was a longtime member of Shore Christian Center Church, Allenwood, Wall Township.
She was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, Clayton J. Newman.
Surviving are her daughter, Claire Newman Morrison, Manasquan; and her brother, V. James Salustro, Tinton Falls.

Albert D. Aaronson
Freehold Township resident Albert Dougherty Aaronson Jr., whose family lives in Wall Township, died Saturday, Sept. 18 in Pine Brook Care Center, Manalapan.
He was 80 years old.
Born in Newark, Mr. Aaronson lived in Union for many years before moving to Freehold Township five years ago.
He had been employed as a sheet metal mechanic with Sheet Metal Local No. 25, Carlstadt, for 65 years before retiring in 1987.
He was a communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.
He was a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
He was a U.S. Navy “Seabees” veteran of World War II, serving as a metal smith 3rd class.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Florence Addonizio Aaronson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Anthony Crea, and Karen and Preston Deutsch, all of Manalapan; two grandchildren, Jason A. and Lauren R. Deutsch; two brothers-in-law, Frank and Ralph Addonizio, and one sister-in-law, Antoinette Verdi, all of Wall.
Funeral arrangements are from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. A funeral service will be held at 8:45 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

Frances H. Brennan
Spring Lake Heights resident Frances H. Brennan, formerly of Montclair, died Wednesday, Sept. 15 in her residence.
She was 82 years old.
Born and raised in Montclair, she had lived in Spring Lake Heights for the past 18 years.
Mrs. Brennan was a communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.
In Montclair she was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, Montclair, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Rosary Society, both chapters of Immaculate Conception Church.
She was a homemaker, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Mrs. Brennan was predeceased by her daughter, Eileen Brennan, in July 2001.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John P. Brennan; nine sons, John, Camphill, Pa., Thomas and Michael, Freeport, Bahamas, Brian, Wharton, Mark, Rockaway, Stephen, Randolph, James, Amherst, Mass., Christopher, Sturbridge, Mass., and Robert, Spring Lake Heights; five daughters Patricia Boland, Livingston, Kathleen Baris, Killingly, Conn., Maureen Brennan at home, Margaret Rydzewski, Bloomfield, and Sharon Kennedy, Rutland, Mass.; 41 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Charles E. Burger
Spring Lake Heights resident Charles E. Burger died Tuesday, Sept. 14 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 86 years old.
Born and raised in Bay Bridge, Brooklyn, he had moved to Maplewood in 1945, then to Short Hills before moving to Spring Lake from 1955 to 1967. He then lived in Wall and then Sea Girt for ten years before moving to Spring Lake Heights in 1991.
He was employed for 48 years with First Fidelity Bank, Newark, before retiring in 1991. After his retirement he then went on to work at Alex Estelle Lighting, Sea Girt, for ten years.
He was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Parish, Spring Lake, and had served as an usher for 40 years at the 11 a.m. Mass.
He was also a little league coach in Spring Lake.
Mr. Burger was an Army veteran of World War II who had served in New Guinea and received one battle star.
He had been a member of the American Legion Post #523, Asbury Park, for many years.
Mr. Burger is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane A. Burger; two sons, Charles J. Burger, Brielle, and Kevin B. Burger, Toms River; six daughters, Mary Jane Gaines, Manhattan, Margaret Anne Burger, Spring Lake Heights, Nanci Kowalsky, Wall Township, Patricia Golden, Red Bank, Ginny Fallon, Toms River, and Susan Burger, Point Pleasant; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
