Robert A. Balzano
Point Pleasant resident Robert A. Balzano, whose sisters live in Sea Girt and Spring Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 12 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 38 years old.
Born in Newark, Mr. Balzano lived in Old Bridge and moved to Point Pleasant five years ago.
He was employed as a teamsters shop steward with Roadway Union Local 701 in East Brunswick for 13 years.
Mr. Balzano was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was the Little League Director of girls softball and also coached boys Little League in Point Pleasant. Mr. Balzano was a member of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.
He was a wonderful husband, father, son and brother, and will be in his family’s hearts forever.
Mr. Balzano is survived by his wife, Yvette Napurano Balzano; parents, Frank and Mary Balzano, Brick; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Angie Napurano, Sayreville; maternal grandmother, Frances Fresco, Edison; son, Robert A. Jr., at home; two daughters, Patricia Mary and Gina Marie, at home; brother and sister-in-law, Frank John and Mary Balzano, Old Bridge; sister, Angela Culver, Sea Girt; sister and brother-in-law, Frances Mary and Joe Florentine, Spring Lake, and seven nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by aunts and uncles, Dolores Fresco, Edison; Saverio and Betty Ann Fresco, Manchester; Jack and Marie Balzano, New York, and Don Fresco, Edison.
He was predeceased by his uncle, Andrew Natale Fresco.
Visiting hours are today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick. A funeral liturgy will be offered at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant. Interment will follow.

Gail Elizabeth O’Rourke
Brielle resident Gail Elizabeth O’Rourke died Sunday, Dec. 12 in her home.
She was 54 years old.
Born in Staten Island, New York, Mrs. O’Rourke moved to Brielle in 2001.
Mrs. O’Rourke is the daughter of the late Edward and Evelyne Conway Thompson.
She attended Notre Dame Academy and earned an undergraduate degree from S.U.N.Y, New Paltz, and her master’s degree in education from Richmond College, of C.U.N.Y. She taught at Our Lady of Good Counsel School and Sacred Heart School, both of Staten Island. She also worked as a marketing associate with Dean Witter. She was a homemaker, wife and mother who loved her family, gardening and the beach.
Mrs. O’Rourke is survived by her husband of 18 years, Richard G. O’Rourke, and her son, Kevin Edward, and daughter, Megan Elizabeth, both at home.
She is also survived by her brothers, George Thompson, Sea Girt, and James Thompson, Lakewood; sisters, Carol Rossi, Warren, Ohio, Sandra McSorley, Middletown, and Clare Thompson, Aberdeen; seven nephews and four nieces.
A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan. Interment will follow in Greenwood cemetery, Brielle. Visiting will be today from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the VNA Hospice or the Pancreatic Cancer Research Center, Bethpage, N.Y., would be appreciated.
Robert M. Runyon
Friendship, Maine, resident Robert M. Runyon Sr., formerly of Spring Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 27 in his home with his family by his side.
He was 96 years old.
Mr. Runyon was born Nov. 30, 1908 in Spring Lake to Charles and Elva Sprague Runyon. He graduated from Manasquan High School in the Class of 1925. He was married to Magdalena Mueller on Dec. 11, 1932.
Mr. Runyon worked with his wife’s family to create a wholesale flower growing business with farms in New Jersey, North Carolina and Florida. After the death of his wife’s father in 1936, he helped his mother-in-law and acted as a surrogate father to the 14 children who remained at home. He owned and managed Mueller’s Florist, a retail flower business in Manasquan. He was a member and past president of the New Jersey Flower Growers Association. With his son, Ed, he founded Aquatic Services, a water quality treatment company. Another interest he took up in retirement was raising rabbits, pheasants, pigs and goats. His grandsons and granddaughter have many fond memories of helping him in his varied enterprises.
Mr. Runyon was a founding member of Holy Trinity Church in Manasquan and was active on the church council, organizing a building drive for a new parish hall and renovation of the sanctuary in the 1950s. He was a lifelong fisherman, hunter, and sportsman, hunting in Newfoundland, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and New Jersey with his sons and grandsons.
In 1988 he and his family moved to their new home overlooking the Friendship Back River in Maine. The Runyon garden was a source of vegetables for area food pantries. He and his family became members of Nativity Lutheran Church in Rockport, Maine. Mr. Runyon transferred his baseball allegiance to the Boston Red Sox, and was expecting their post season victory as World Champions at the time of his death.
He was predeceased by his brother, Fred Runyon; sister, Margaret Kreiss, and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Brady.
Mr. Runyon is survived by his wife of 72 years, Magdalena Mueller Runyon; sons, George Henry Runyon, of Friendship, Robert M. Runyon Jr. and his wife, Prudence, of Manchester, and Edwin C. Runyon, Howell; one daughter, Caroline Runyon Zuber and her husband William, of Friendship; sister, Anne Fraley and brother, Edwin Runyon, both of New Jersey.
He is also survived by by his seven grandchildren, William Zuber III and his wife, Margo, Rockland, Maine; Robert Zuber, Washington, D.C.; Andrew Zuber and his wife, Nirvana, South Bristol, Maine, Robert Runyon III, Radnor Pa., Scott Runyon, Raleigh, N.C., Edwin Runyon Jr., Howell, and Jeanne Newberry, Austin, Texas. He was the step-grandfather of Colleen and Erin Brady, Howell. He leaves four great-grandchildren, Sara and Isaac Zuber, Rockland, and Benjamin and Liam Zuber, South Bristol.

June Joan Riggs
Neptune City resident June Joan Riggs, formerly of Belmar, died Thursday, Nov. 11 in her home.
She was 56 years old.
Born in East Orange, Mrs. Riggs lived in Belmar before moving to Neptune City 17 years ago.
She worked as a salesperson in K-Mart in Wall for the past 14 years and never retired.
She was a very loving and caring person who fought a courageous battle against ovarian cancer. She loved animals, especially her dogs, Lacey and Jordan, and her cats, Marrisa and Hilary.
Mrs. Riggs was predeceased by her mother and father, Stanley and Mildred Siomiak, and her brother, Paul S. Siomiak.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Thomas J. Riggs, Neptune City; a sister, Joan M. Davidyock, Brick Township; twin sister, Jean J. Layton and her husband, John J. Layton, of Wall Township, and a brother, Carl F. Siomiak, East Brunswick.
Funeral arrangements were from the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar.

Dominick J. Pascale
Castle Hayne, N.C., resident Dominick J. Pascale, formerly of Belmar and Manasquan, died Wednesday, Nov. 10 in the Britthaven of Northchase Nursing Home, Kinston N.C.
He was 91 years old.
Born and raised in Hoboken, Mr. Pascale lived in Belmar, Manasquan, the Poconos and Ocala, Fla., before moving to Castle Hayne two years ago.
Mr. Pascale was a retired general traffic manager for Universal Carloading, a subsidiary of U.S. Freight in New York City for many years. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in the Poconos.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Rose, in 1952; second wife, Connie, in 1989; son, Thomas, in 1969 and grandson, Paul, in 1977.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Edith Victoria Pascale; son, John Pascale, Spring Lake Heights; step-daughter, Maria Phillips, Belmar, and sister, Grace Tota, Spring Lake Heights. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

John H. McCormick
Belmar resident John “Jack” Hugh McCormick, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and stubborn Irishman, died Friday, Nov. 12 in the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after being involved in an auto accident.
He was 75 years old.
Born in Morristown on May 6, 1929, he moved from Madison to Morganville in 1956 and resided there until moving to Belmar in 1977.
He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 825 for over 45 years. He was employed as project manager for Sean’s Landscaping in Hamilton for the past four year and worked for Voller’s Excavating and Construction Company, in North Branch for almost 25 years.
Mr. McCormick was a hard-working, conscientious individual who took pride in all that he endeavored, both at work and home. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed arriving at the track before sunrise on race day. Mr. McCormick spent many days walking the boardwalk, enjoying the beachfront and chatting with the locals. He will be sorely missed by many.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 42 years, Jean Craig McCormick, in June of 1993.
He is survived by his two sons and their wives, Daniel James and Dorothy, John Hugh III and Michele; three daughters, Christine Murphy and her husband, Brian, Margaret “Maggie” Sitar and Jeff Slocum, and Leslie Best; 12 grandchildren, Brendan, Daniel, Patrick, Brittany and Kellie McCormick, Christine, Danielle, Heather, Ariannne and Benton Best, Sean and Nora Murphy and four great-grandchildren, Cage, Maxwell, and Seth Lister and Ellica Best.

Irene B. Friedel
Wall Township resident Irene “Bobbi” B. Friedel died Friday, Nov. 12 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 73 years old.
Born in Orange, Mrs. Friedel moved to the shore in 1954.
She attended Barry College in Florida where she met her husband, Richard, whom she was married to for 53 years. She was the president of the Wall Lions Club Auxiliary, a a member of the Manasquan Elks and operated The Circus Drive-In in Wall for the past 49 years with her husband and daughter, Carol.
She was predeceased by her son, Richard Jr.
Surviving are her husband, Richard, and daughter, Carol, both of Wall.

Marion Deignan
Manasquan resident Marion Loretta Deignan died Friday, Nov. 12 in Pottstown Memorial Hospital, Pottstown, Pa.
She was 100 years old.
Born in Orange, she lived in West Orange for many years before moving to Manasquan 30 years ago.
Mrs. Deignan was a homemaker. She is a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange and was a member of St. Denis Church in Manasquan.
Mrs. Deignan was predeceased by her husband, William F., in 1986; her brothers, George McNally Sr., Joseph McNally, Robert McNally; sister, Elizabeth Healy, and son-in-law, Robert W. Singewald.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Singewald, Gilbertsville, Pa.; grandchildren, William Robert Singewald and his wife, Cary, Mary Elizabeth Kircher and her husband, Robert, and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kevin Singewald, and Stephen, Elizabeth, Anne and Matthew Kircher.

Dorothy Pullen
Wall Township resident Dorothy Virginia Pullen went to her heavenly home Friday, Nov. 12 while cradled in the loving embrace of her daughters, Ginny and Linda.
She was 85 years old.
Mrs. Pullen, known by all who loved her as Toots, was born Sept. 6, 1919 in Neptune.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Ethel Borden; her husband, Charles L. Pullen; brothers, Charles and Robert Borden and her sisters, Anna Borden and Shirley Elizabeth Morris.
Mrs. Pullen is survived by her son, Charles Pullen and his wife, Marie Pullen, and her daughter, Ginny Pullen, all of Wall. Also surviving are her daughter, Linda Pyle and her husband, Douglas Pyle, Perrysburg, Ohio, and her grandchildren, the joys of her life, grandsons, Robert and his wife, Susan, Matthew, Andrew, and Joshua Pyle, Charles and Michael Pullen and great-granddaughter, Amanda Pullen.
She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Ethel Mae Fisk and Barbara Jean Morris, both of Wall; brother, Willis Borden, Brick Township, and her special nieces, Pam Mauro and Jeanne Avon.

RoSanne R. Newbury
Manasquan resident RoSanne R. Newbury died Sunday, Nov.14 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Paterson.
She was 62 years old.
Born in Paterson, Ms. Newbury resided in West Paterson before moving to Manasquan 12 years ago.
She is survived by a sister, Judith A. Newbury, Manasquan; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Anne Newbury, Hawthorne; nephews and nieces and their spouses, Steven and Susie Newbury, Kelly and Joe Bavaro, Charles and Lynn Newbury, and Sally Newbury; great-nieces and nephews, Jordan and Steven Newbury, Charles Newbury, Sydney Bavaro, and sister-in-law, Charlotte Newbury, Dania, Fla.
She also leaves several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
