John Schnering

Spring Lake resident John “Jack” D. Schnering died Sunday, July 11 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 74 years old.

Born in Newark, he had lived in Middletown before moving to Spring Lake 33 years ago.

He was employed as a Printer for the former Newark Evening News, which later became the Star Ledger, for over 40 years before retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Pressman and Printers Local # 103, Philadelphia, Pa.

He was a communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.

Mr. Schnering is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce [nee Sommers] Schnering; two daughters, Christine Mooney, Lakewood and Donna Mulvaney, Clark; and four grandchildren, Michael and Kristin Mooney and Daniel and Matthew Cappilla.

Funeral service will be Thursday, July 15 at 8:45 a.m. from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. Visitation is Wednesday 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m.. Committal is private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Schnering’s memory may be made to the Spring Lake First Aid Squad, 311 Washington Avenue, Spring Lake 07762.

Cherie J. Erbe

Former Spring Lake resident Cherie J. Erbe died Sunday, July 11.

She was 71 years old.

She lived is Spring Lake for 51 years until she and her husband retired to Seminole, Fla.

She was a communicant of St. Jerome’s Parish, Indian Rocks, Fla.

She was predeceased by her son, Shawn Erbe.

Mrs. Erbe is survived by her husband Harry A. Erbe; her daughters, Sherry Smith, Mary Theresa Jeffries, Colleen McGraw; her sons, Harry A. Erbe, Jr., Kevin Erbe, Michael Erbe, and Darren Erbe; 24 grandchildren and 12 great grand-children.

At her request there will be an immediate cremation and memorial Mass.

Andrew Cavanaugh

Neptune resident Andrew Joseph Cavanaugh died Monday, July 12 at his residence.

He was 81 years old.

Born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he had lived in Asbury Park before moving to Shark River Hills, Neptune in 1968.

He had attended the University of Nebraska.

He had been employed as the Manager of Household Finance Co., Asbury Park for 25 years before retiring. He later went to work at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune in the Account Receivables Department.

He was a Communicant of the Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach and an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Cavanaugh is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth [nee Bertram] Cavanaugh; four sons, Patrick, Neptune, Andrew Jr., Millstone, Michael, Wall, and Kevin, Orange County, Calif.; two daughters,Eileen Slowik, Neptune, with whom he lived, and Elizabeth Falber, Blackwood; two sisters, Jane Coyne, Calif. and Mae Clark, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Friday, July 16, at 9:30 a.m. from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy. 35, New Bedford Road, Wall, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach. Visitation is Thursday 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Committal is private at the convenience of the family.

Darlena Louise Hale

Former Bradley Beach resident Darlena Louise Hale died Monday, July 12 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 63 years old.

Born in New York, N.Y., she had lived in Bradley Beach for many years before moving to Jackson four years ago.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hale is survived by her four sons, Edwin J. and his wife, Irene, Spring Lake, Timothy F. and Sharon, Jackson, Royden K., Wall, and David J. and Kristina, Brick; two daughters, Bea Marie Hale, Jackson, with whom she lived and Pamela L. Hale, Jackson; two great nephews who lived with her and Joshua and Johnny; her brother, Kennath C. Hale, Manville; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, July 16 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall with a service at 8:00 p.m. during the visitation. Committal will be private at the convenience of the family.

Helen K. Langlois

Former Manasquan resident Helen K. Langlois died Sunday, July 11,

She was 95 years old.

Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she relocated to Jacksonville, Fla. in 1986 from Manasquan.

She was the former co-owner of the Polar Cave Custard Stand, with her predeceased husband Ernest Langlois.

She was predeceased by her grandson, Mark Langlois and her brother, Harold Zulch.

Mrs. Langlois is survived by her daughters, Janet Deveney, Manasquan, Lynn Helen Hofgartner [James], Harrison, N.Y., Irene Larson and Peggy [Margaret] Langlois, Jacksonville, Fla.; her sons, Captain Eugene E. Langlois [Ruthann], Toms River, Roger Langlois [Joan], Manasquan, and Douglas Langlois [Darlene], Ocean Gate; grandchildren, Danielle and Christine Langois, Sam, Jeff, T.R., Gayle Deveney, Kathy Watson, Jenny Morford, Doug, Charlene, Beth Hofgartner, Karole Langlois, Meredith and Karla Larson and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 15 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Fla. 32223 with a memorial service at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers a donation in Ms. Langlois’ name may be made to the Sloan Kettering Center.

Corriene Barone

Brick resident Corriene M. Curran Pangaro-Barone died Wednesday, July 7 in her home.

He was 64 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she lived in Brick since 1968.

She was a homemaker.

She was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.

She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4715 Ladies Auxiliary, Point Pleasant and an avid bingo player at St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Pangaro..

Mrs. Barone is survived by her husband, Rocco J. Barone; two sons, two sons, Joseph Pangaro and Todd Pangaro, Brick; six stepchildren, Laura Lenhart, Susan Muench, David Barone, Ella Cipolla, Jena Barone, and Toni Lee Barone; 13 grandchildren, Joseph, Alex, Marisa, Jack, Todd Jr., Kaitlyn and Jake Scott, Michael and Sara Jane Muench, Matthew Cipolla, and Ashley, Arielle and David Barone Jr.; a brother, John Curran, Jersey City; and three sisters, Grace Lauer, Wall, Gloria Wallace, Point Pleasant, and Joan Cooley, Tampa, Fla,

Ella Lida Batterson

Former Manasquan resident Ella Lida “Eleanor” Batterson died Tuesday, July 6.

She was 91 years old.

Born in Lyndhurst, she lived in Manasquan and then Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and belonged to the Hearty Souls at Scottsdale Bible Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; brother, John W. Castles; sisters, Esther Harry and Laura Lincks, and grandson, Nicholas A. Gervase.

Mrs. Batterson is survived by her son, Allan [Betty] Batterson; daughter Barbara [Nicholas] Gervase; grandchildren, Cindy Gervase, Turner, Barbara [Tim] Leary, Lisa [Jim] Quenzler, Andrew [Theresa] Gervase, Sheri [James] Dean and Thomas Batterson; great -grandchildren, Jason Gervase, Pamela Coffman, Miranda Batterson, Danielle Quenzler, and Nicole Quenzler; sister, Catherine Conrad and cousin, Lois Hires and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from Messinger Indian School Mortuary, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Carol Marie Norcia

Wall resident Carol Marie Norcia died Wednesday, July 14 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was 41 years old.

Born in Allentown, Pa. she grew up in North Plainfield and moved to Wall 12 years ago.

She graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1981.

She was a communicant of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Sea Girt.

Mrs. Norcia is survived by her husband, Anthony Norcia; her daughters, Andrea and Natalie Norcia; her parents, John and Shirley Kirchner, South Brunswick; her sisters, Catherine Kirchner, Sommerville, Christina Kirschner, Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; her brothers, Joseph Kirchner, Emmitsburg, Md., Edward Kirchner, Greensboro, N.C., Thomas Kirchner, Yardley Pa.; her father and mother-in-law, Anthony and Joan Norcia, Manchester.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Sea Girt. Visiting will be Sunday 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan.

John Schnering

Spring Lake resident John “Jack” D. Schnering died Sunday, July 11 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 74 years old.

Rose Stasi DeSanto

Manasquan resident Rose M. Stasi DeSanto died Sunday, July 11 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 86 years old.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Mrs. DeSanto moved to Manasquan 20 years ago.

She was employed as a secretary with Hudson Surgeons, Jersey City, before retiring.

She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, and was a member of Gamma Kappa Rho Sorority, Jersey City.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank F. DeSanto; and three sisters, Eleanor Stasi, Antoinette DiCubellis and Angela Scilla.

Surviving are her son, Frank DeSanto, Jersey City; three sisters, Ann Carducci, Josephine Lattuca and Jean Lombard; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Donations to the American Heart Association, 2550 U.S. Hwy 1, North Brunswick, 08902 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.

Maro Gevrekian

Ocean Grove resident Maro Gevrekian,whose dear friend lives in Wall Township, died Thursday, July 15 in the King Manor Care Center, Neptune.

She was 100 years old.

Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Ms. Gevrekian was a longtime supervisor at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, New York City.

She was predeceased by four older sisters, Victoria, Arpine, Pergrouhie and Rosa; and her nephew, Armen Tartanian, who cared for her for many years.

Surviving are four nephews, Charles Tartanian and his wife Mary, Maryland, and Richard Manoogian and his wife Sherri, Leo Manoogian, and Vahe Simonian and his wife Barbara, all of California; two nieces, Adrine Simonian Thomas and her husband Yeppie, and Gloria Simonian Mooradian and her husband Ara, all of California; and her dear friend, Til Tremper, Wall Township.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.
