Richard P. Jackson
Brielle resident Richard P. Jackson passed away Monday, Jan. 26, at his home.
He was 78 years old.
Mr. Jackson was born in Orange, and was raised and educated in Newark, where he resided for 56 years before moving to Brielle in 1983.
He was a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, Newark, class of 1943.
Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Theater during WWII, where he was decorated for actions in the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
He joined the Newark Police Dept. in 1949, rising to the rank of Captain. He retired in 1987 after 37 years on the force. While serving in the NPD, he was a scuba instructor in the NPD Emergency Squad, a member of the Service and Planning Dept., Narcotics, Internal Affairs and Watch Commander.
Mr. Jackson was active with the Boy Scouts, the Holy Name Society and the Alumni Association of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish School Community, Newark.
He held degrees from Rutgers University and Southern Police Institute. He was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan. He was also an avid golf and tennis player.
Mr. Jackson was predeceased by his parents Frank J. and Mary Camille Osterhout Jackson; and his brother Robert J. Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sophie Mainiero Jackson; three sons, Robert J., Bloomfield, Thomas S., Ireland, and Joseph M. of Shark River Hills; two daughters, Barbara E. Lario of Hadden Heights and Anne Marie Larkin of Wall Township; and four grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may gather today at 9:30 a.m. at the Paul A. McDonough Funeral Home, Belmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Denis Church, Manasquan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, Tn., 38105.
Bernard F. Ritchey
Wall Township resident Bernard F. Ritchey died Monday, Jan. 26, at his home.
He was 48 years old.
Mr. Ritchey was born and raised in Johnstown, Pa., and moved to Wall Township 24 years ago.
He was a 1975 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He was employed as a chef for 29 years, last employed by The Family Tree Tavern in Wall for 14 years. Previously, he was employed as the executive chef at the Spring Lake Golf Club, for 9 years.
Mr. Ritchey was a parishioner of St. Denis RC Church, Manasquan.
He was a loving husband and a wonderful father. He was a talented musician who had a love of music and an appreciation for the performing arts.
Mr. Ritchey is survived by his wife of 22 years, Nancy Perkins Ritchey; two sons, Ryan B. and Conor B., both of Wall; his two daughters, Kaitlin J. and Megan N., Wall; his mother Catherine Chessa Ritchey of Johnstown Pa.; three brothers, Paul, Johnstown, David, Pittsburgh, and Ron of Southlake, Texas; his sister Lois Ritchey, Johnstown; several nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Bob Grieco of Wall.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. A Funeral Mass will be held tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis RC Church in Manasquan. Burial will follow at Greenwood cemetery, Brielle.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his honor to the Ritchey Children Education Fund, 1973 Hwy. 34, Wall Township, NJ 07719.
Evelyn P. Wrobel
Millington resident Evelyn P. Wrobel, whose son and daughter live in Manasquan, died Monday, Jan. 26 at her home.
She was 75 years old.
Born in Langhorn, PA, she lived in Englewood and North Plainfield before moving to Millington in 1956.
She graduated Douglas College in 1948 with a BS in chemistry.
She worked as a chemist for Ciba-Geigy in Summit for many years before working as a bank teller for many different banks in the area, before becoming a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald H., in 1986.
She is survived by two sons, James R. of Manasquan and Bruce P. and his wife Lori of Warren Township; one daughter, Leslie M. and her husband John R. Ertl, of Manasquan; and three grandchildren.
There will be a Chapel Service at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge, tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 30, at 12:30 p.m.
Services are under the direction of the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Road, Gillette.
Marion Madden
Spring Lake resident Marion Madden died Friday Jan. 16, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 90 years old.
For many years, she volunteered at the former Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, and for the Holy Innocents Society. She was a member of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph P., in 1968; and her son William J., 2003.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ronald P. Melnik Sr., Spring Lake; and her three grandsons, Patrick J. and his wife Wendy Melnik, Ronald P. Melnik Jr., and Kyle P. Madden.
Interment will be private. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m., at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake.
William C. Gioia
Brielle resident William C. Gioia died suddenly on Wednesday Jan. 28.
He was 33 years old.
Born in City Island, Bronx, Mr. Gioia later moved to NJ and graduated from Manalapan High School.
He enjoyed the outdoors and participated in a National Life Guard Championship in Belmar. He was employed as a union carpenter.
Mr. Gioia is survived by his loving family, parents Donald and Rita Gioia, Brielle; his grandmother Rita Anderson, Freehold; his sister Dawn Leavy and her husband Arthur, Point Pleasant; his brother Donnie and his wife Kelly of Shark River Hills; his brothers Kevin and Andrew, Brielle; his nephew Thomas; his nieces, Taylor, Gianna and Angelina. He is also survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles, and he will be greatly missed by his girlfriend Colleen Tessler.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan, and Interment followed in Greenwood cemetery, Brielle.
Russell C. Walker Jr.
Manasquan resident Russell C. Walker Jr. died Thursday Jan. 29, at his home.
He was 72 years old.
Born in Glen Ridge, he was a life-long resident of Pompton Plains, before moving to Manasquan in 1998.
Mr. Walker Jr. served as an Airman First Class in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an Operations Manager for many years for Globe Products, Clifton, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Pompton Valley Presbyterian Church, Pompton Plains.
Mr. Walker Jr. received a Bachelor of Arts from Fairleigh Dickinson University in industrial engineering in 1959.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mrs. Nancy L. Walker; his son Craig A. Walker, Wayne, Pa., a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Beth E. Carlson and Mr. Nels Carlson of Maple Grove, Minnesota; his grandson Wyatt Walker Carlson; and his sister Mrs. Barbara Paul of Stewart, Fla.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Robert F. Dunn
Former Brielle resident Robert F. Dunn died Tuesday Jan. 27, at Harrogate in Lakewood.
He was 81 years old.
Mr. Dunn was retired as an engineer for RCA in Harrison, after 42 years of service. He was a member of the IEEE Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, INC in NJ, the AARP America Association of Retired Persons in Manasquan, and St. Denis RC Church, Manasquan.
He received his undergraduate and Master degrees in engineering from NYU, NYC, NY.
Born in NYC, he lived in Brielle for 20 years before moving to Lakewood 10 months ago.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen Miskines Dunn, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nancy Dunn, Old Lyme, Conn.; daughter and son-in-law, Candice and Jack Hammond, Wall Township; his sister Pat Smith of New Milford; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Zachary, Sean and Katie.
Arrangements were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Denis RC Church, Manasquan, and Entombment was at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

Nancy Hooyman
North Cape May resident Nancy Gallagher Hooyman, whose mother lives in Manasquan, died Saturday Jan. 31, at Burdette-Tomlin Hospital in Cape May Court House.
She was 49 years old.
Mrs. Hooyman was born to Marie and the late Thomas Gallagher in Newark, and has lived in North Cape for 27 years. She graduated from Manasquan High School and received her B.A. degree in elementary education from Georgian Court College.
She was a dedicated employee in the Lower Township Elementary School district for the past 17 years as a first grade teacher and recently a pre-school teacher at the Memorial School. Prior to her tenure at Lower Township Elementary, the many children who attended potpourri classes in Cape May fondly knew her as “Miss Nancy.” She also taught at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cape May.
Mrs. Hooyman was a member of St. John of God Church and a Eucharistic minister. She was a member of the Cape May County Pre-Cana team for the Camden Diocese. She was a member and the co-chair of the literacy committee of the Delta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Professional teachers organization and the incoming vice president for that chapter. She was a member of the Lower Township Teachers Association, a Republican Committeewoman for Ward 3, a member of CAPE and the Red Hat Society, and a former CCD teacher and youth group leader. She was a donor to the Gift of Life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Richard, and devoted daughter Jennifer; her mother Marie Gallagher of Manasquan; sisters, Marianne Caci of Brielle, Maureen Prevosnak, Clinton Township, Gigi Sharon, Point Pleasant, Carol Prevosnak, Westfield; brothers, Thomas Gallagher, Pawtucket, RI, Michael Gallagher, Ocean Township, Matthew Gallagher, Manasquan; and nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, and friends.
Arrangements were under the direction of Evoy Funeral Homes, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at St. John of God Church on Townbank Road, Cold Spring, at 2:30 p.m. Friends may pay their respect from 1 to 2:30 at the church. Interment will follow the service at Cold Spring Presbyterian cemetery on Seashore Road.
Mrs. Hooyman devoted her life to children, and the family suggests that those who desire to send memorial contributions do so in her name for playground equipment at the Memorial School. They may be sent to the Board of Education Office, 834 Seashore Road, Cape May, NJ 08204.
John Bailey
Asbury Park Tower resident John Bailey, whose brother lives in Spring Lake, died Thursday Jan. 29, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after a short illness.
Mr. Bailey was employed by Maidenform Products in Bayonne, for 35 years until his retirement in 1993. Born in Jersey City, he lived there until 1999 when he moved to the Asbury Towers.
He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater for four years, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War for 18 months.
Mr. Bailey is survived by his brother Joseph, Spring Lake; and nephews, Michael of Lake Bluff, Ill., John, Glen Rock, Stephen and Paul of No. Reading, Mass.; and 10 grand-nephews and nieces.
Arrangements were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. Interment was at the Holy Name cemetery, Jersey City. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake.
James N. Height
Manasquan resident James N. Height died Thursday Jan. 29.
He was 88 years old.
Mr. Height retired from Garden State Heating and Air Conditioning, Freehold, in 1982 as a sheet metal mechanic. Prior to this, he constructed neon and plastic signs for Yates Signs for 23 years.
Born in Manasquan, he was a life-long resident. He is a graduate of Manasquan High School, the last class to attend the Taylor Ave. High School, class of 1932.
Mr. Height is a borough historian and a life member of the Squan Village Historical Society. He is a WWII veteran of the Merchant Marines, where he received the Atlantic, Pacific, Mediteranian, Middle East and Combat Ribbons.
He is predeceased by his wife of 33 years, the former Laura C. Larish of Pittston, Pa., who died in 1978; his father and mother, Milton and Martha Newman Height; and his brother T. Roland Height.
Surviving are his brother Edwin S. Height, Wall Township; his dear friend Marion Weirman and her daughter Allyson Terry; his nephew Jon and his wife Erin Jo Height; his grandson Matthew; his cousin Sue Hand; and many friends.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. Interment followed at Atlantic View cemetery, Manasquan.
