Gail Kathleen Danley

Former Manasquan resident Gail Kathleen Danley, died Friday, Nov. 28, at the J.F.K. Medical Center, Atlantis, Fla.

She was 57 years old.

Gail was a sales clerk at Frank's Nursery and Crafts, Wall, for many years.

She was a 1964 graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School. She was a member of Volunteer Fire Company 2 Ladies Auxiliary, Manasquan, and a volunteer at Yester Year Historical Village, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Gail was an avid supporter of Special Olympic Programs.

Born in Newark, she was raised in Point Pleasant before moving to Manasquan in 1964 and to Lake Worth, Fla. recently.

Surviving are her husband, Wilbur L. Danley Jr.; a son, Lafe A. Danley, Brattlesboro, Vt; a daughter, Debra L. Danley, Lake Worth, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary J. and Mary Flanagan, Neptune; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Tolska of Farmingdale; and a granddaughter, Amber.

Visitation was held yesterday, and a blessing will be offered today, at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. Interment will be in Atlantic View cemetery, Manasquan.

Thomas J. Hastings Jr.

Point Pleasant resident Thomas J. Hastings Jr. died Sunday, Nov. 23 in Alterra Claire Ridge, West Ampton.

He was 85 years old.

Born in Westfield, Mr. Hastings moved to Point Pleasant 56 years ago.

He was an alumni of Duke University, Durham, N.C., and earned a master's degree from MIT, Cambridge, Mass.

He was employed as a stockbroker with Fahnestock & Co., Wall Township, retiring 10 years ago.

He was a member of Manasquan River Country Club, Brielle.

Surviving is one niece, Sharon Lee Moje, Bordentown; one grand nephew, Robert Andrew Moje,Virginia; and two grand nieces, Marissa Ann Moje, Dallas, and Annika Lee Moje,Wilmington, Del.

Funeral arrangements are from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. Visiting hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m.

Virginia Barnes Secor

Lakewood resident Virginia Barnes Secor, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Nov. 20 in the Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.

Born in Everett, Mass., Mrs. Secor lived in Maplewood and the Shore Acres area of Brick before moving to Lakewood.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Shore Acres Yacht Club, Brick, the Ladies Auxiliary of BPO Elks, Brick, and of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Retired Police and Fireman's Association of New Jersey.

She was predeceased in 1984 by her husband, Howard W. Secor.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Mary Lou Secor, Point Pleasant; one daughter and son-in-law, Bethel and William Watt, Los Altos, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 in Harrogate Clark Auditorium, 400 Locust St., Lakewood.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Secor's memory may be made to Ocean Medical Center, Foundation Building Fund, 425 Jack Martin Blvd., Brick, 08724.

Sylvia Fiess-Fiordland

Church View, Va., resident Sylvia B. Fiess-Fiordland, whose niece lives in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Nov. 15 in Virginia.

She was 62 years old.

Born in Neptune, Mrs. Fiess-Fiordland was raised in Middletown and resided in Rumson for five years before moving to Virginia in 1981.

She was a homemaker and had a great love for animals.

She was predeceased by her parents, Max and Anna Fiess.

Surviving are her husband, Capt. Donald Fiordland; two sisters, Erika Falzarano, Forked River, and Irene Newman, Atlantic Highlands; a niece, Catherine Newman, Point Pleasant; a nephew, Dean Newman; Virginia Beach, Va; three great-niece; and two great-nephews.

Joseph B. Rousseau

Spring Lake Heights resident Joseph B. Rousseau passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, at Waterford Glen, Wall Township.

He was 75 years old.

Mr. Rousseau had been employed in the publishing industry earlier in his career at Dun & Bradstreet, NYC, and then later at his own company, Publications Consultants Inc., Brick, before his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council, Jersey City, a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge No. 2534, the Spring Lake Heights Fire Dept. and a member of the Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club.

Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Spring Lake Heights for 11 years, and then in Brick for 21 years before returning to Spring Lake Heights two years ago.

Mr. Rousseau was predeceased by his wife Catherine E. Carugan Rousseau, 1998.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Joseph and Marybeth, Wellington, New Zealand, Michael and Laura, Bell Canyon, Calif., John and Laura, Tiburon, Calif., Thomas and Stephanie, Middletown, and Marie and Paul Larson, Wall Township; a brother, Thomas Rousseau, Wyckoff, and 12 grandchildren, Paul A. III and Robert Larson and Joseph, Michael, Jacqueline, Thomas, Robert, Josephine, John Jr., Natalie, Linette and Catherine Rousseau.

A service will be held today at 8:45 a.m. from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake. Interment will be at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Family Inn “Home away from home for families of transplant patients,” 70 Sewall Ave., Brookline, Mass. 02446.

Ruth W. MacPeek

Brielle resident Ruth W. MacPeek passed away Friday, Jan. 2, at Meridian Hospice Center, Brick.

She was 92 years old.

Born in Newark, and formerly of North Caldwell and Glen Ridge, she had lived in Brielle for the past 25 years.

Mrs. MacPeek was a homemaker, an accomplished horse woman and she took special care of her home garden. She was also an avid golfer, at an earlier age.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur MacPeek, 1963.

Surviving are her son, Philip W. MacPeek, Normandy Beach; her daughter-in-law, Judith S. MacPeek; three grandsons, Philip W. Jr., David R. and Steven A.; and a granddaughter, Lisa A.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, and Greenwood cemetery, Brielle.

Jennie M. Herbert

Former Manasquan resident Jennie M. Herbert passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Meridian Care Center, Brick.

She was 89 years old.

Born in Spring Lake and formerly of Manasquan, she lived in Leisure Village East, Lakewood, for the past 5 years.

Mrs. Herbert was a dress maker and a seamstress, and worked for many years as a member of Ladies Garment Union.

She was also a member of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, various church groups, and a member of AARP.

Mrs. Herbert was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth J. Herbert, 1969.

Surviving are her son James R. Herbert, Barnegat; daughter-in-law Cheri Herbert; and granddaughters, Jessica R. and Krista L.

A blessing was under the direction of the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, and Atlantic View cemetery, Manasquan.

Anna H. Blakeslee

Spring Lake Heights resident Anna H. Blakeslee passed away Friday, Jan. 2, at the Medi-Center, Neptune.

She was 89 years old.

Mrs. Blakeslee was a homemaker.

Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Wall Township before moving to Spring Lake Heights 10 years ago.

Mrs. Blakeslee was predeceased by her husband, Wesley F., 2002.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Wesley and Jeana Blakeslee, Wall Township; her daughter April Blakeslee, Manasquan; her sister Martha Brown, Wall Township; and her grandchildren, Katie, Kara and John.

Arrangements were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made in her name to the Jersey Shore Medical Center Foundation c/o JSMC, Rt. 33 Neptune, NJ 07753.

Joseph Carlo

Former Belmar resident Joseph Carlo passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, at his home with his wife beside him after a long and very courageous battle with cancer.

He was 85 years old.

Mr. Carlo was a 34 year veteran with the U.S. Coast Guard. He served during WWII in Belgium and in Viet Nam during the Viet Nam War.

He was an instructor at the Coast Guard Academy, Cape May, in the 1950’s. He retired in 1973 at the rank of Master Chief Boatswain Mate.

Mr. Carlo owned and operated the Paperback Exchange in Belmar with his wife Isabelle.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling, working at the bookstore, and especially dining out at different restaurants. He always said the key to good living was to “only eat when you’re hungry.”

Born and raised in Astoria, NY, he moved to Belmar upon retiring from the military in 1973, and then to Ocean Grove in 1988.

Surviving are his wife of 10 years, Isabella Koffler Carlo, Ocean Grove; a stepson, George Green, Bradley Beach; two sisters, Fran Borasi, Vineland, and Marie Dempsey, Bennington, Vermont; two nieces and a nephew, Madeline Pennente, Virginia Shirley, James Borasi and their families.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall Township. Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, 4200 Wilson Blvd., Suite 610, Arlington, Va. 22203-1804.

Carole Ann Turanski

Wall Township resident Carole Ann Turanski passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was an executive vice president of the Adam Spence Corporation in Wall Township, until her passing.

Born in Jersey City, she lived in Kearny, Woodbridge and Carteret before moving to Wall 30 years ago.

Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Edward S. Turanski; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Michele, Middletown; her daughter Karen Turanski, Aberdeen, her brother Thomas Duddy, Bayonne; her sister Rose Basiak, Holmdel; and her granddaughter Michaela Rose Turanski.

Arrangements were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. Interment was private.

Donations may be made in her name to the Susan G. Komen Breast Foundation, 785 Springfield Ave., Summit, NJ 07901.
