Harry Wardell

Point Pleasant Beach and Naples, Fla., resident Harry Wardell died Monday, Sept. 29 in his home in Point Pleasant Beach.

He was 88 years old.

Mr. Wardell lived in Point Pleasant Beach his entire life before recently spending winters in Naples, Fla.

He earned a bachelorıs degree in economics from Princeton University in 1936.

He was the president of his family business, Point Pleasant Distributors, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of St. Maryıs By the Sea Episcopal Church, Point Pleasant Beach, and of Trinity by the Cove, Naples, Fla.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Maritime Service. He was an instructor at the U.S. Maritime Academy, Kings Point, N.Y.

He was a former member of the Point Pleasant Beach Rotary Club , a former director of Manasquan Savings Bank, a member of the Manasquan River Yacht Club where he was a former trustee and vice commodore, and a member of the Bay Head Yacht Club.

He was predeceased in 1996 by his wife, Emily Minford Wardell.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and James Dunn, Point Pleasant Beach, Joanne and Robert Carwithen,Warren, Ohio, and Beth and John Hennon, Venezuela; one brother, John Makin Wardell, Bay Head; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow in St. Mary by the Sea Episcopal Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Wardellıs memory may be made to St. Gregoryıs Pantry, 804 Bay Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, 08742.

Elizabeth M. Ryan

Largo, Fla., resident Elizabeth M. Ryan, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Sept. 30 in her home.

She was 83 years old.

Born in New York, Mrs. Ryan lived in Point Pleasant before moving to Florida in 1976.

She was employed as a secretary to the tax collector of the Borough of Point Pleasant before retiring.

She was a member of St. Patrick Church, Largo, Fla.

She was a member of the DAV Womenıs Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Charles W.; one son, William J., Manasquan; one daughter, Jean Marie Kotch, Oakhurst; two brothers, Paul Dolezar, Salisbury, Md., and Louie Dolezar, Barnegat; one sister, Helen Pellegrini, Brick Township; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are from the Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, Largo, Fla. A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. today in St. Patrick Church, Largo, Fla.

Mary G. MacMillian

Gulfport, Fla., resident Mary Grace MacMillian, whose sister lives in Point Pleasant died Sunday, Sept. 28 in Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena, Fla.

She was 84 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. MacMillian lived in Avon-By-The-Sea before moving to Florida in 1973.

She was employed as a salesperson in the womenıs apparel industry before retiring.

She was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Gulfport, Fla.

She was a member of the Womenıs Auxiliary of American Legion Post No. 125.

Surviving are three sons, Robert Howe, Hillsdale, Bernard Howe, Bensalem, Pa., and Edward Howe, Bradley Beach; three sisters, Edna Burke, Sea Girt, Florence Loughran, Point Pleasant, and Doris Tamke, Brick Township; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Gulfport Memorial Funeral Home, Gulfport, Fla.

Kenneth Estabrook

Spring Lake resident Kenneth Estabrook, died Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

Mr. Estabrook was a lawyer, family man and philanthropist who never forgot the importance of education in his life.

The lawyer, a founding partner of the Westfield law firm Lindabury, McCormick and Estabrook, devoted his energy and resources in his later years to the advancement of higher education.

Mr. Estabrook served as the chairman of the board of trustees at Kean University in Union, and was still a trustee when he died.

A Spring Lake resident, he was appointed to the board of the public university by Gov. Christie Whitman and had made substantial contributions to the physical renovations of the campus, fund-raising and educational programs.

His last gift to the college included a $50,000 endowment for a newly established science and technology program.

Mr. Estabrook also established a scholarship at the Cornell University Law School in Ithaca, N.Y., from which he graduated in 1951.

The son of an insurance salesman, Mr. Estabrook grew up in upstate N.Y., before attending Cornell as an undergraduate.

After graduating, he began representing trade association clients in construction, public utility and health care fields, and by 1954 had established a law firm with Joseph Lindabury and Frank McCormick.

Mr. Estabrook built the Westfield firm with Lindabury and McCormick by mentoring younger attorneys into new practice areas and was regarded as a practitioner with the highest integrity.

Despite the fact that he was a founding partner, he took a hands-on approach to managing his law firm, and setting good examples.

He continued to represent some clients until his death.

Mr. Estabrook took the same pro-active role in his volunteer activities and used his powers of persuasion, intellect and vision to move organizations forward.

Over the years, he was involved in dozens of charitable organizations and service groups throughout N.J., including the Union County Alliance, the Elizabeth YMCA, Linden Rotary Club, and the Welkind Rehabilitation Hospital. Mr. Estabrook served as a trustee with the Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corp. from 1968, and was the board chairman for a three year period.

Another one of his favorite organizations was the Frost Valley YMCA, where he served as a trustee and vice president.

During his free time, Mr. Estabrook took up golf, and could often be seen playing at the Baltusrol Golf Club, Springfield, and he served on the club's board of governors for many years.

The upstate N.Y. native who spent his summers on a farm, also loved to garden and spent much time planting vegetables and English-style flower gardens. He even traveled to England with his wife, Anne, to tour the gardens there.

Mr. Estabrook was predeceased by his son, Gary T. Estabrook.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Evans Estabrook; a sister, Janet Rogers; his children and their spouses, David T. and Susan, James K. and Heather Moulton, Jeffrey S. and Lisa, Scott G. and Jennifer. He was also a stepfather and father-in-law to David and Susan Gibbons, Mary M. Gibbons and Anne Marie Gibbons Lejnieks, and Carlos Lejnieks; and 10 grandchildren.

Arrangements were under the direction of the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Eugene J. Sangillo

Spring Lake resident Eugene Joseph Sangillo, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, at his residence.

He was 76 years old.

Mr. Sangillo was a self-employed general contractor in Spring Lake for many years.

He was a communicant of St. Catharine's and St. Margaret's Parish, Spring Lake.

Born and raised in West New York, he had lived in Spring Lake for the past 33 years. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Merchant Marines and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 432, Spring Lake.

Mr. Sangillo was predeceased by his brother, Dominic.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Theresa Carlascio Sangillo; and two sons, Michael and James Sangillo, both of Spring Lake.

Arrangements were under the direction of the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at St. Catharine's RC Church, Spring Lake. Committal was private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

Marcelle Mc Kenzie

Manasquan resident Marcelle Mary Barbara Mc Kenzie, wife of John Mc Kenzie, a 30 year resident of Manasquan, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, at her home.

She was born and educated in Yonkers, N.Y, as well as Paterson.

She had been an avid tennis fan since her early teens and played the game until two weeks prior to her death.

"Marci" married "Squan John" Mc Kenzie in June, 1945.

She is survived by her obedient loving husband John Mc Kenzie; daughter, Karen Ruth Wilson, Annapolis, Ca.; son John Brent Mc Kenzie, Sarasota, Fla.; granddaughter, Jennifer Hellhake, Santa Rosa, Ca.; grandson, Travis John Mc Kenzie, Sarasota, Fla.; great grandson, Conner Michael Hellhake, Santa Rosa, Ca.; and relatives in Yonkers.

"Marci" was her name and tennis was her game.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary "Hollie"

Ferragine

Spring Lake Heights resident Mary "Hollie" Ferragine, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, peacefully at her residence.

She was 76 years old.

Born in Beacon, N.Y., she lived in Jersey City before coming to Belmar in 1971, and Spring Lake Heights three months ago.

Mrs. Ferragine was the owner of Hollie's Hair Fashion in Avon for 20 years before retiring. She also owned hair salons in Jersey City before coming to the shore area. She was truly passionate about her profession as a hairdresser, and was known to her loyal clients as "Hollie."

She was an avid gardener, an excellent cook, and in her retirement, was an important part of her daughters business, Ambiance Antiques, Furnishings and Gifts, Point Pleasant.

Mrs. Ferragine is survived by her daughter with whom she lived, Donna M. Provenzano, Spring Lake Heights; her husband Salvatore Ferragine, Belmar; her former husband Dominick Provenzano; and she also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were under the direction of the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. Committal was private at the convenience of the family.

Margaret Ann Ford Bragg

Former Neptune resident Margaret Ann Ford Bragg, who went to school in Belmar, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Farragut, Tennessee.

She was 72 years old.

Margaret was formerly of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Neptune.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach. She graduated from St. Rose High School, Belmar, and graduated with honors from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa.

Margaret served in the U.S. Navy as a LTJG from 1953-55. She was active in the Republican Party and was a strong supporter of theater and arts, animal welfare, as well as a board member of the USO, Head Start and the St. Mary's Parish Council.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Leroy E. Bragg, Jr. [LTCol USAF, Ret.]; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Jim Yann, Farragut; her grandchildren, Maureen, Katelyn, Jimmy and Patty Yann, all of Farragut; and two brothers, William S. Ford, Jr. and James R. Ford, both of N.J.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Farragut. Interment was in the Tennessee State Veteran's cemetery.
