John McDonald

Belmar resident John “Jack” F. McDonald died Monday, June 28 at his home.

He was 92 years old.

Born in New York City, he lived in Astoria, Queens and summered in Belmar for many years before moving there permanently.

He was the manager of the Village Barn, Greenwich Village, New York City and later the owner of the Riverdale Inn, Riverdale, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his wife, the late Dorothy McAleer McDonald, a sister, Ann DeLia and a brother Joseph McDonald.

Mr. McDonald is survived by two sons, Kevin and Robert McDonald; three grandchildren, Doreen Mrowicki, Kevin McDonald, Jr. and Sean McDonald; and one great grandson, Justin Jay Mrowicki.

Visiting is Wednesday 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Reilly Funeral Home, 8th Avenue and D Street, Belmar. The family will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Rose Church, Belmar. Entombment is at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Wall.

Donations may be made to the St. Rose Athletics, 605 7th Avenue, Belmar, N.J. 07719.

Jean Heyniger

Spring Lake Heights resident Jean A. Heyniger died Monday, June 28 at her home.

She was 87 years old.

Born in Passaic, she has resided in Spring Lake Heights for many years.

She graduated from Beaver College (Arcadia College), Glenside, Pa.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Heyniger, in 1997.

Mrs. Heyniger is survived by her sons, Robert and Richard Heyniger, Winslow and Verona; her brother, Douglas Adams, Phoenix, Ariz.; her sister, Marjorie Rice, Naples, Fla.; her grandson Anders Heyniger, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at Noon at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan. Interment will follow in Mt. Hebron cemetery, Upper Montclair. Visiting will be Friday from 10 a.m. until Noon at the funeral home.

Helen Leete

Williamstown, Mass. resident Helen A. Akey Leete died Thursday, June 17 at Harborside Health Care, Masphee, Mass., following a long illness.

She was 92 years old.

Born in Williamstown, Mass. she also had moved to Deland, Fla. in 1975 and resided there until 2000.

She had been employed in earlier years in the admissions department at Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass.

She was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Robert A. Leette Sr. and a son, Kevin Leete.

Mrs. Leete is survived by four sons, Robert A. Leete, Jr., Wall, Richard Leete, South Windsor, Conn., James Leete, Sandwich, Mass. and Donald Leete, East Falmouth, Mass.; 9 grandchildren, Donna Woszczsak, Susie Panasuk, Bobby Leete, all of Wall and six other grand children.

A funeral was held June 21 in Williamstown, Mass. Burial was in her family plot in East Lawn cemetery, Williamstown.

Florence Loughran

Point Pleasant Beach resident Florence Pray Loughran, whose daughter lives in Brielle, died Sunday, June 20 in her home.

She was 86 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Loughran lived there until moving to Point Pleasant Beach 59 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Point Pleasant Beach Republican Club.

She was a communicant of St Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Thomas F. X. Loughran Sr., and one sister, Mary MacMillan.

Surviving are five sons and four daughters-in-law, Thomas F. X. Loughran Jr. and Patricia, Brick Township; Robert E. and Jo Ann Loughran, Brick; Richard E. and Lois Loughran, Point Pleasant; Michael J. and Pattie Loughran, Point Pleasant Beach; and John B. Loughran, Point Pleasant Beach; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Jane and Mark Fendl, Point Pleasant; and Sara E. Van Wickle, of Brielle. She is also survived by two sisters, Edna Burke, Sea Girt, and Doris Tamke, Brick; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.

Donations may be made to either Meridian Hospice, 615 Hope Road, Bldg. 4, 2nd Floor, Eatontown, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552.

Calla Downs

Former Manasquan resident Calla M. Downs died Friday, June 18 at Hope Hospice, Fort Meyers, Fla.

She was 96 years old.

Born in Robersonville, N.C., Mrs. Downs resided in Manasquan before moving to Cape Coral in 2000.

She was a tax consultant and an advisor with the I.R.S. during her professional career.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley, who died in 1979; her daughter Joy Marie Downs; her grandson James Downs; her granddaughter, Vicki L’Hommedieu; one brother’ and five sisters.

Mrs. Downs is survived by three children and their spouses, Stanley and Laura Downs, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Donald and Maryann Downs, Brick, N.J., Dayna and Edward Liska, Cape Coral, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home.

Donations in Mrs. Downs’ memory can be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Meyers, Fla., 33908.

Peggy Hillman

Burlington resident Peggy [Pat] Keiser Hillman died Tuesday, June 15 at the Masonic Home of New Jersey, where she resided for the past six years.

She was 83 years old.

Born in New York City, she had previously lived in Mooretown and Merchantville.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Merchantville and the Merchantville Chapter 125 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was predeceased by her husband Evans in 1969, and her parents, John J. and Elma Keiser.

Mrs. Hillman is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-laws, Robert J. and Barbera Hillman, Sea Girt, The Very Reverend George E. and Debbie Hillman, Fox Point, Wis.; two grandsons, Eric Hillman, Point Pleasant, and Greg Hillman, New York City.

A memorial service will take place sometime over the summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Hillman’.s memory may be made to m Masonic Charity Foundation, 902 Jacksonville Rd., Burlington, N.J. 08016 or Grace Church of Merchantville.

Kevin Queen

Brielle resident Kevin Richard Queen died Friday, June 1 in his home.

He was 36 years old.

Born in Neptune, he was a life-long resident of the area.

He was a cemetery caretaker for Greenwood cemetery, Brielle.

He was a member of Manasquan Methodist Church, Manasquan.

He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia Queen.

Mr. Queen is survived by his father, Richard Queen, Brick; one daughter, MacKenzie Queen; two sisters, Bonnie Q. Wright and her husband Gregory S. Wright, Brielle, and Jacque Queen, Point Pleasant; a niece, Diana Wright, Brielle; and a nephew, John Wright, Brielle.

Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Queen’s memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mid-Jersey Chapter, 246 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, N.J. 07755.

James Coburn

Former Sea Girt resident G. James “Jim” Coburn died Thursday, June 17.

He was 53 years old.

He was a resident of Warrington, Pa. and Sea Girt.

A graduate of Staples High School, Westport, Conn. and an honors student at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa. he was accepted into the Medical School of the State University of New York, Kings County, New York City. He became afflicted with schizophrenia in his second year of studied and despite a valiant and never ending battle against the ravages of the illness he could make no recovery and is now at peace.

Mr. Coburn is survived by his parents Marilyn [nee MacNee] and Jim Coburn, Sea Girt; his sister Christine Coburn, N.Y.C.; his brother Scott and sister-in-law Eileen, Darien, Conn. with their three children, Michael, Marietta, and Madeline; and his youngest brother Jerry, Sea Girt.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Coburn’s memory to the N.J. Alliance for the Mentally Ill, 1562 Rt. 130, North Brunswick, 08902 or the N.J. State Special Olympics, 3 Princess Rd. Lawrenceville, 08648.

Florence Loughran

Point Pleasant resident Florence [nee Pray] Loughran died Sunday, June 20 in her home.

She was 86 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she moved to Point Pleasant 59 years ago.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant. She was also a member of the Point Pleasant Beach Republican Club.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Thomas F.X. Loughran St. in 1987 and her sister, Mary MacMillan.

Mrs. Loughran is survived by her sons and their spouses, Thomas F.X. Loughran Jr. and Patricia, Brick, Robert E. and Jo Ann Loughran, Brick, Richard E. and Lois Loughran, Point Pleasant, Michael J. and Pattie Loughran, Point Pleasant, and John B. Loughran; daughter, Sara E. Van Wickle, Brielle, and Mary Jane and her husband Mark Fendi, Point Pleasant; sisters Edna Burke, Sea Girt and Doris Tarnke, Brick; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. at Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant. This will be followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant. Internment will take place at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of lowers, a donation in Mrs. Loughran’s memory may be made to either Meridian Hospice, 615 Hop Road, Bldg. 4, 2nd floor, Eatontown or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, Tenn. 38148-0552.

Donald Holmquist

Wall resident Donald W. Holmquist died on Thursday, June 17 at his parents’ home in Brielle.

He was 50 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant, he was a life-long resident of the shore area.

A graduate of Manasquan High School and Rider University, he began his teaching career at Toms River High School North in September, 1976. He taught Advanced Biology and Advanced Placement Biology, and retired from Toms River High School North this year after a 28 year career.

His awards included: Toms River Regional Schools 1988 to 1989 Teacher of the Year; Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program Honoree 1988-89; Governor’s Meritorious Teacher Award for Toms River North - May 1989; Regional Outstanding Educator from the University of Richmond, 1999; Outstanding Teacher for 2002 from the College of New Jersey; and was chosen by his students many times to be included in “Who’s Who Among America’s High School Teachers.”

He was selected by Princeton University to set up its Molecular Biology high school satellite program for high school teachers.

Mr. Holmquist is survived by his parents, Richard Holmquist and Natalie Ritchey Holmquist, Brielle; his brother, Richard Holmquist Jr., Cazenovia, N.Y.; and two cousins, Patricia Geisel Yaeger and her family, Point Pleasant, and Penelope Geisel Bogart and her family, Little Egg Harbor.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home.

Donations in Mr. Holmquist’s memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey Hospice, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank, N.J. 07701, or to the American Cancer Society.
