Dixie L. Kenney
Manasquan resident Dixie L. Kenney, who was born in Point Pleasant, died on Tuesday, July 29, in New England Medical Center, Boston, surrounded by her family.
She was 57 years old.
She resided in Manasquan for many years. She was a camp counselor as a teenager.
Mrs. Kenney was a bus driver for Monmouth Campus for over 13 years, and she also sold Avon products for 13 years.
She was a member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kenney was a wonderful mom, sister, friend and grandmother.
She was predeceased by: her mother, Doris A. Trotter; her father, Harry Trotter; and her uncle, Charles Leon Miller.
Mrs. Kenney is survived by: two children Theresa L. Kenney Waddington, Wakefield, N.H. and Melvin Kenney Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Alve Sarandos, Spring Lake, Dolores Koenig, Brielle, and Tammy Adres, Howell; six grandchildren; six nieces; five nephews; and a special friend that she accepted as a daughter, Anne Francis Orozco. Mrs. Kenney will be lovingly missed.
A funeral service was under the direction of Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. Burial followed at the Atlantic View cemetery, Manasquan.
Kathryn McLaughlin
Kathryn Rose McLaughlin, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died July 15 in the Motion Picture Home in Woodland Hills, Calif.
She was 91 years old.
Born in 1911, in Hollywood, Calif., she began her professional career at age 7 with the Hugo Hamlin Kitty Review. She graduated from the Belmont Professional School in Hollywood in 1929 at the age of 18.
She had a vaudeville act during the 1930s, and during the late 1930s and 1940s, was under contract to Warner Bros. Studios as a dancer. She taught dancing and represented 'Super Taps' Taps Shoes during the 1950s. She was the consummate entertainer: dancer, singer, and musician. She appeared in 'The Jazz Singer,' 'Three Little Girls in Blue,' and various other films.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin Simon, Point Pleasant Beach, her son, Christopher McLaughlin, Toluca Lake, Calif., three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Bastian & Perrott Mortuary, Northridge, CA.
Gennaro A. Donella
Gennaro A. 'Jerry' Donella of Barnegat, whose daughter lives in Bay Head, died July 28 in Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin.
He was 69 years old.
He was a retired supervisor for United Parcel Service, Edison. He volunteered to help at Kenıs Kitchen and also served as a Eucharistic minister. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Victories, Sayreville. He was a communicant of St. Maryıs Church, Barnegat.
Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Little Egg Harbor and Sayreville before moving to Barnegat eight years ago.
He was predeceased by a sister, Concetta Tutolo. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet M. Wright Donella of Barnegat; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Jean M. and Paul Bernard of Mercerville, and Jerri Ann and Robert Parlow of Bay Head; five grandchildren, Nicole and Matthew Bernard and Brittany, Kaitlyn and Bobby Parlow; and a sister, Maryann Beck of Barnegat.

Santa T. C. Brescia
Santa T. Castrovinci Brescia, of Brick Township, whose daughter lives in Bay Head, died Wednesday, July 30, in Burnt Tavern Nursing Home, Brick Township.
She was 81 years old.
She was a devoted homemaker and mother. Born and raised in Jersey City, she lived in Bayonne before moving to Brick seven years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Brescia, in 2001, and a sister, Josephine Cattuzzi. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and Joseph Todisco of Bay Head, and Connie and Jimmy Cantwell of Howell; three sisters, Mary Pepe of Toms River and Camille LaMagra and Loretta Louis, both of Michigan; four grandchildren, Dr. Tricia Todisco Gilbert, Joseph Todisco Jr., John Cantwell and Jimmy Cantwell; and a great-grandchild, Jordan Gilbert.

Joseph R. Pond
Joseph R. Pond of Bay Head died Tuesday in Laurelton Village Nursing Home, Brick Township.
He was 91 years old.
He served on the planning board and the school board in Bay Head and was a member of Bay Head Chapel.
He was employed by Prudential Life Insurance Co., Newark, and was a retired major in the U.S. Army. He served in active federal service from 1943 to 1946 and received the following decorations: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantrymanıs Badge, Expert Infantrymanıs Badge, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, American Theatre Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He authorized two overseas Service Bars.
He was responsible for heading up the United Way Drive in Verona and the American Cancer Society in Essex County. He graduated with a bachelorıs degree from Rutgers University and a masterıs degree from Columbia University.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Fenton Pond; his son, Lawrence Joseph Pond; and 12 brothers and sisters. He is survived by a son, James Pond of Montclair; a daughter, Cynthia Lewis of Hampton and nine grandchildren.
Interment will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 22, 2003, at Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va. There will be no local services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WWII Memorial Fund, American Battle Monuments Commission, P.O. Box 98147, Washington, D.C. 20090-8147. Andrew Chase Gordon
Andrew Chase Gordon of Neptune, who has family in Point Pleasant, died Monday, July 21, in his home.
He was a tree supervisor for the Monmouth County Shade Tree Commission where he worked for 20 years. He also worked for the Asbury Park Press. He was born in Philadelphia.
He is survived by two sons, Andrew Gordon and Thomas Gordon, both of Neptune; a daughter, Margaret Gordon of Neptune; his wife, Gail Gordon of Point Pleasant; a grandson, Tyler Robert Gordon; his parents, Andrew Culver Gordon and Eleanor Evans Gordon of Ocean Grove; a brother, Robert Clarke Gordon of Lexington, Va.; and a sister, Margaret E. Mongin of Roxbury, Conn.

Francis T. Flarity Jr.
Francis T. 'Frank' Flarity Jr. of Brielle, whose brother lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died Saturday, July 2, in his home.
He was a decorated patrolman with the Newark Police Department for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He also managed the Manasquan Inn in the early 1970s. he was a parishioner of St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, Manasquan. He attended St. Rose High School, Belmar, and was a 1953 graduate of Bloomfield Technical High School, Bloomfield. He served in the U.S. Army and was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.
He was a member of the Manasquan Elks and a retired member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Newark Chapter. He was a former member of the Livingston Knights of Columbus and the Irish Americans of North Newark. Born in Newark, and lived there and in Avon before moving to Livingston, where he lived for 34 years before moving to Brielle.
He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Veronica Healy Flarity. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas F. and Angela Flarity, and a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Scott Loftus, all of Manasquan; a brother, Paul of Point Pleasant Beach; a sister, Mary Nielsen of Wall; and grandchildren, Devon Rose and Sean Thomas Flarity.

Anthony D. Arico Sr.
Anthony D. Arico Sr. of Point Pleasant died Tuesday in Laurelton Village Nursing Home, Brick Township.
He was 87 years old.
He was a truck driver for Preston Trucking Co., Jersey City, for many years before retiring. He served in the Naval Reserves. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Midland Park before moving to Point Pleasant in 1966.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Annette Neilson, and a sister, Lena Divsconti. Surviving are his wife, Rose Lipari Arico; a son, Anthony D. Arico Jr. of Lakewood; a sister, Catherine Saputo of Florida; three grandsons, Steven Neilson of North Carolina, Michael Taylor of Tinton Falls and Anthony Wayne Arico of Lakewood; a granddaughter, Nicole Arico of Barnegat; and a great-grandchild, Jared Taylor.

Marie Irons McAlinden
Marie Anastasia Irons McAlinden, a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday while in the care of her beloved son, the Rev. Terence McAlinden.
She devoted much of her time in the past several years to the Point Pleasant Historical Society, travel around the world and her work. Earlier this year, she enjoyed a rigorous trip through the Panama Canal.
Her professional life centered for decades in the local inn and restaurant business, where she often worked beside her husband, Owen McAlinden. In her later years, she worked as a home health aide and for the Ocean County Security Department.
She attended St. Peterıs School, Point Pleasant Beach, and St. Rose High School, Belmar. Her youth was spent at work at several of the grand hotels of New York and New Jersey in the late 1930s and 1940s.
She lived her later years in Bay Head and Toms River.
She was predeceased by her husband, Owen 'Mac' McAlinden, who passed away shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Surviving are a son, Father Terence McAlinden of Tuckerton; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Betty and Chuck McCaffrey of Monmouth Beach, Peg and Jim Camooso of Wayside, Pat and Dan Brzusek of Bellevue, Wash., and Kathleen McAlinden of Flushing, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A social hour of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m Friday in the church hall at St. Theresaıs Church, Tuckerton. This will be followed by a Eucharistic Celebration of Thanksgiving for her life at 11 a.m. in the church. All are welcome to join her parish family for this celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. Theresaıs Building Fund or the Point Pleasant Historical Society. There are no viewing hours and burial is private. Wood Funeral Home, Tuckerton, is in charge of arrangements.
John Francis Carr

Belmar resident John Francis 'Jack' Carr died Saturday, Jan. 27 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 68 years old.
Born and raised in Newark, Mr. Carr lived in Union for many years, spending summers at the shore, before moving to Belmar permanently in 1990.
He earned a bachelorıs of science degree in business management from Seton Hall University.
He was a mortgage banker for more than 45 years, retiring in 1990. He owned Townley Mortgage Company, Morristown, and was co-owner of Essex Mortgage Company, Morristown. He also worked for seven years as a senior toll taker for the Garden State Parkway.
He was a charter member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore and West Orange.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was predeceased in 1960 by his first wife, Elaine McEligot Carr.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Sally Mullen Carr; one son and daughter-in-law, John P. and Kati, Brick Township; one daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Scott Hemsworth, Watchung; and four grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are from the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. today in St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

Helen L. Harper

Manasquan resident Helen L. Loew Harper died Friday, Jan. 26 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 80 years old.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Harper moved to Manasquan 14 years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; one son, Richard; and a brother, Theodore Loew.
Surviving are one son, Edward; one daughter, Eileen Sverchek; and six grandchildren.
