Jessica M. Newman

Belmar resident Jessica MacArthur Newman died Friday, April 25 in her home.

She was 53 years old.

Born in Karney, Ms. Newman moved to Belmar at age 12. For a short time, she lived in California and Nevada before returning to Belmar.

She was employed for the past 17 years as a beautician with the J. C. Penney Hair Salon, Eatontown. Previously, she was employed with Park View Salon, Spring Lake.

She was a member of the Full Gospel Church, Wall Township.

She was a loving mother, and was devoted to her children and many close friends.

She was predeceased in 1959 by her father, Archibald MacArthur, in 1983 by her mother, Johann Gallagher MacArthur Schwartz, and in 1987 by her brother, Jack MacArthur.

Surviving are two daughters, Jessica King and Jarellyn King, both of Belmar; one brother and sister-in-law, Archie and Rachel MacArthur, Arizona; one niece, Christian "Nina" MacArthur; several cousins; and many close friends.

Funeral arrangements were from the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar.

Jane Murray

Sea Girt resident Jane Murray died Saturday, April 26 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Wall Township.

She was 69 years old.

Born and raised in Cresskill, Ms. Murray lived in the convent at the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station before moving to Sea Girt many years ago.

She was a counselor with the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Neptune for 25 years. Previously, she was a Catholic nun with the Sisters of Charity, Convent Station for over 30 years, entering when she was in the eighth grade. As a Sister, she was a teacher for many years in East Orange.

She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church, Sea Girt.

She was predeceased by one brother, Harold R. "Bud" Murray.

Surviving are two brothers, Neal F. Murray, Bergenfield, and Vincent T. Murray, Pensacola, Fla; a sister-in-law, Peggy Murray, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a friend and her family, Ursula and Charles Wooley, Sea Girt.

Funeral arrangements were from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Contributions in Ms. Murray's memory may be made to the Sisters of Charity, P.O. Box 476, Convent Stations, 07961-0476, or the NJ Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 6908, Lawrenceville, 08648.

Vivian Mary Gearing

Manasquan resident Vivian Mary Hunting Gearing died Wednesday, April 23 in the Medical Center of Ocean County -- Brick Hospital.

She was 92 years old.

Born in Brookline, N.H., Mrs. Gearing lived in Union, Brielle, and Chatham before moving to Manasquan in 1970. She reside in Meridian Nursing and Rehab, Brick Township, since 1999.

She was a graduate of Hackensack High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a parishioner of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

She had been the president of the Manasquan High School PTA in the mid-50s, and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader in Brielle, and had served as president of the residents council at Meridian Nursing and Rehab, Brick.

She was predeceased in 1969 by her husband, Raymond E. Gearing; and by her parents, Ernest and Mable Bernier Hunting.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Anne, Pine Beach, and Fred and Barbara, Fort Myers; one daughter and son-in-law, Marguerite and John Lewis, Manasquan; eight grandchildren, David, Paul, and Anne Gearing, Lisa Peck, John, Patrick and Mary Lewis, and Maureen Landowsky; and five great-grandchildren, Leanna Sodan, William Lewis, Andrea Gearing, and D. Austin and Dylan Peck.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Contributions in Mrs. Gearing's memory may be made to Manasquan First Aid Squad, 65 Broad St., Manasquan, 08736.

Ann McNamee Jarrett

Chatham, Mass., resident Ann McNamee Jarrett, whose sister lives in Brielle, died Thursday, April 24.

She was 74 years old.

Born in Spencer, Mass., Mrs. Jarrett lived in Springfield, Mass., for most of her life.

She was a graduate of David Prouty High School, Spencer, Mass., earned a bachelor's degree from College of our Lady of the Elms, attended Worcester Teachers College, and earned a master's degree in psychology from Spring field College. She took additional courses at Smith College, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, harvard Medical School, and the Albert Einstein Medical School.

She was a member of the Springfield School Department for 36 years, serving as a teacher for 17 years and as a psychological adjustment counselor for 19 years. She had been a court investigator of care and protection with the Barnstable District Court since 1991.

She was a communicant of the Holy Redeemer Church, Chatham, Mass., a Lady, Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and a Dame of the American Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

She received Rotary International's highest honor, the Paul Harris Fellow, and had served as a director on many civic organizations, including, Stage West, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Baystate Medical Center, Child and Family Services, Spring field Action Commission, citizens for economy in Government, Willie Ross School for the Deaf, and the South End Community Center, all in Springfield, Mass.

She was also a member of the Junior League of Springfield, the Colony Club, Eastward Ho! Country Club, the Monomoy Yacht Club, Chatham, Mass., and the Hyannis Yacht Club.

Surviving are her husband, Leroy F. Jarrett; one sister, Francine McNamara Shea, Brielle; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Service, West Harwich, Mass.

Anne M. Snoden

Brick Township resident Anne M. McKenna Snoden, whose daughter lives in Manasquan, died Thursday, April 24 in Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant.

She was 92 years old.

Born in Plainfield , Mrs. Snoden lived in Watchung for 35 years before moving to Brick.

She was employed for 21 years with the Borough of Watchung, retiring as Borough Clerk in 1971. She served the borough in several capacities including secretary of the Board of Health and Board of Adjustment.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Stony Hill Church, Watchung.

She was a member of the Watchung Chemical Engine Company Auxiliary, where her late husband served as fire chief. She was one of the organizers of the Watchung Seniors, a member of the North Plainfield Seniors, and was a participant in the original Indian Pageant in Watchung.

She was predeceased in 1950 by her husband, G. Edward Snoden.

Surviving are two daughters, Judith Anne richardson, Manasquan, and Gail S. Dooley, Brick; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Higgins Home for Funerals, Watchung.

Elaine Nunnally

Avon-by-the-Sea resident Elaine Nunnally died Monday, April 28 in her home.

She was 57 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Nunnally moved to Avon in 1968.

She earned a bachelor's degree in special education from Notre Dame College [now part of St. John's University], Staten Island, N.Y., in 1967.

She was employed for the past 20 years as a special education for the handicapped with the Wall High School Resource Center.

She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church, Avon-by-the-Sea.

She served for several years as an officer in the NJEA Teachers' Union.

She was predeceased by her father, August J. Meyer.

Surviving are her husband of 35 years, William S.; two sons, William A., Avon, and Matthew R., Philadelphia; her mother, Claire Meyer, Avon; one sister and brother-in-law, Corinne and Thomas Murphy, Ocean Grove; and a niece and nephew, Sarah and Joseph Murphy.

Funeral arrangements are from the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Church, Avon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Nunnally's memory may be made to the Elaine Nunnally Memorial Fund, c/o Guidance Office, Wall High School, Wall Township.

Thelma Drew

Spring Lake resident Thelma Drew died Friday, April 25 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 88 years old.

Born in New Brunswick, Mrs. Drew lived in Somerset, Naperville, Ill., Spring Hill, Fla., and Mount Dora, Fla., before moving to Spring Lake one year ago.

She earned a degree in history in 1934 from New Jersey College for Women, New Brunswick.

She later became a professor with the university.

She was an avid traveler, and visited Alaska, Hawaii, England and Israel.

She was predeceased in 1998 by her husband, Glen Drew, and in 1972 by her sister, Gladys Black.

Surviving are two sons, John Doyle Drew, Point Pleasant Beach, and Glen Doyle Drew, Rockville, Md.; one daughter, Patricia Sinclair, Ontario, Canada; and five granddaughters.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset. Visiting will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Saint Mary by the Sea Episcopal Church, Point Pleasant.

Anthony J. Zarrillo Sr.

Wall Township resident Anthony J. Zarrillo Sr. died Monday, April 28 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 82 years old.

He was employed for many years as a sales representative for Texaco, New York City and Newark, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Ascension Church, Bradley Beach.

He was a member of VFW Post No. 1398, Wall, and served as post commander from 1988 to 1989.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving from 1939 to 1945.

He was an avid fisherman.

He was predeceased by all his siblings.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Anne Francioso Zarrillo, two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony J. Jr. and Jeanne, Southampton, and Paul M. and Barbara, Langhorne, Pa.; and one granddaughter, Liana Zarrillo.

Funeral arrangements are from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall. Visiting will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Ascension Church, Bradley Beach.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Zarrillo's memory may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung, Trenton Road, Browns Mills, 08015.
