Josephine S. McDevitt
Loving Mother
Spring Lake Heights resident Josephine S. McDevitt died Monday, April 29 in Claremont Center, Point Pleasant.
She was 80 years old.
She was a graduate of Georgian Court College.
Born in Paterson, Mrs. McDevitt lived in Wayne for 27 years before moving to Spring Lake Heights in 1979.
She was a communicant and extraordinary minister with St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake, and was a past president of the Auxiliary of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
She was a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club and Fairways Mews Golf Club.
Mrs. McDevitt will be remembered as an avid bridge player and enthusiastic golfer.
She was predeceased in 1976 by her husband, John J. McDevitt Jr.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John J. and Ginny McDevitt III, Warwick, N.Y.; three daughters and one son-in-law, Marijo and Ralph Stas, Hillsborough, Barbara McDevitt, British Columbia, and Harley McDevitt, Elizabethtown, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Michael, Kristin and Megan Stas, Kathryn Wilson, and Colleen Collins; and one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Marchese, Spring Lake Heights and Highland Beach, Fla., and retired Honorable William Marchese.
Funeral arrangements are from the Meehan Funeral Home, Spring Lake Heights. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today in St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.
DeWitt L. Foulks
World War II Veteran
Brielle resident DeWitt L. 'Bud' Foulks died Sunday, April 28 in his home.
Born and raised in Rahway, Mr. Foulks lived in Brielle for many years, spending summers at his beach house in Mantoloking.
He was employed for 35 years as a materials manager with General Motors, Linden, before retiring.
He was a highly decorated Navy veteran of World War II, where he served on the admiralıs staff.
He was an avid fisherman, and could be found at the beach with his favorite surf rod catching striped bass and bluefish. He also frequented the Great Lakes, especially Lake Ontario.
He was predeceased in 1996 by his wife, Pauline Foulks.
Surviving are one daughter, Jackie Foulks, Brielle and Mantoloking, and a host of many great friends.
Private funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Catherine Matthews
Former School Secretary
Manasquan resident Catherine Gannon Matthews died on Saturday, April 27 in Sunnyside Manor, Manasquan.
She was 84 years old.
Born in Spring Lake, Mrs. Matthews was a lifelong Monmouth County resident.
She was employed as a secretary with the H. W. Mountz School, Spring Lake.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard A. Matthews, and by her son, Stephen Q, Matthews.
Surviving are one daughter, Kim B. Matthews, Telluride, Colo.; and one niece, Catherine Finley Courbois, Arlington, Va.

Robert B. Cramer Sr.
Oil Company Owner
Manasquan resident Robert B. Cramer Sr. died Wednesday, April 10 in his home.
He was 77 years old.
Born in Pottstown, Pa., Mr. Cramer lived in North Brunswick for 40 years before moving to the Manasquan area in 1974.
He was the owner/operator for 40 years of the Cramer Fuel Oil Company, New Brunswick, retiring in 1985. He was employed for the last 10 years with Quail Ridge Golf World, Wall Township.
He was a North Brunswick Township committeeman from 1969-1972, serving as police commissioner, and was a member of numerous service organizations in the New Brunswick area.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by his twin brother, Joseph W.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary Wall Cramer; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert B. Jr. and Diane, North Brunswick; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Frank Wolfgang, Warminster, Pa., Anne and Joseph Patti, North Brunswick, and Patricia and Joseph Hughes, Wall; one brother and sister-in-law, William J. and Jeanne, East Brunswick; 10 grandchildren, Robert B. III, Christopher, Frederick and Michael Cramer, Jennifer and Brian Wolfgang, Joseph Jr. and Maryanne Patti, and Joseph Jr. and Kimberly Hughes; and two great-grandchildren, Colin and Kelsi Cramer.

George R. Hirst
Post Office Employee
Lady Lake, Fla., resident George Robert Hirst, formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died Sunday, April 28 in Florida.
He was 77 years old.
Born in Asbury Park, Mr. Hirst was a long time resident of the Jersey Shore, and raised his family in Spring Lake Heights before moving to Florida.
He was employed as a window clerk with the Spring Lake Post Office until 1975. He was then employed for almost 12 years as a clerk with The Villages Post Office contract station, Lady Lake, Fla. Also, he was the manager, along with his wife, of Card-O-Rama, Ocala, Fla., for 10 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 347, Lady Lake, Fla.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Italy.
He loved bowling, bingo, dancing with his wife, and meeting new people.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Caroline Pape Hirst, two brothers, William and Frank, and two sisters, Theresa Keeley and Rosalind Barkalow.
Surviving are his beloved wife of almost 57 years, Winifred Benson Hirst; one son and daughter-in-law, George R. 'Chip' Jr. and Donna M., Louisville, Ky.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Edwin 'Pete' Otterberg, Wall Township and Lady Lake, Fla., Caroline Siemers and Robert Kahle, Wall, and Anne and Donald McKeeby, Franklin, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Lise Otterberg, Wall, Peter Otterberg, Tupelo, Miss., Steven and Michael Siemers, both of Wall, and Lauren, Katherine and Jessica Hirst, all of Louisville, Ky.; and many nephews and friends.

Elizabeth A. Dangler Morris
Wall Township resident Elizabeth A. Dangler Morris died Tuesday, June 25 at the Geraldine Thompson Care Center in Allenwood.
She was 74 years old.
She was employed by the Asbury Park Free Public Library for over 20 years and retired as an Administrative Assistant in 1987. She was an active member of the Ballard United Methodist Church in Asbury Park, and the Glendola-Allenwood Grange #168. She was also a member of the Monmouth Organ Society in Middletown Township.
Born in Asbury Park, she was raised in Neptune and moved to Wall Township in 1953.
She was predeceased by her parents, Frank A. and Phoebe Dolan Dangler; and a brother Frank A. Dangler, Jr. She is survived by her husband of over 48 years, Claude S. Morris; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph C. and Taeko Dangler of Freehold.
Private arrangements are under the direction of the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Route 138, Wall. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Joan Mary Guyette
Manasquan resident Joan Mary Guyette died Friday, June 28 in the Meridian Hospice, Brick Township.
She was 69 years old.
Mrs. Guyette was born in Edison and resided in Milltown for 25 years prior to moving to Manasquan.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Rutgers University as well as the 'Welcome Center' at Monmouth Park Racetrack, Oceanport.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jennie Drew and Pasquale Cerminaro, and her brother, Frank Cerminaro.
She is survived by her husband, George E. Guyette, Manasquan; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dianne Guyette, Eatontown, and Suzanne and Michael Cavallaro, Odessa, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Dawn and George, Jr., Milltown; one sister, Phyllis Anderson, Somerset; one step father, Ernest Drew, Somerset; and four grandchildren, Christina, Juliana and Hanna Cavallaro, and Ryan Wolf.

Mary Ashfield Anthes
Florida resident Mary Ashfield Anthes, formerly of Manasquan and Avon-by-the-Sea, died recently
She was born in Garwood and lived in Avon-by-the-Sea as well as Manasquan prior to moving to Florida in 1971.
Mrs. Anthes graduated from St. Rose High School, Belmar and from the Monmouth Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Long Branch.
She was employed by the Point Pleasant Hospital, Point Pleasant and Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune as an assistant night supervisor. After relocating to Florida, Mrs. Anthes was employed by Palm Beach Regional Hospital, Lake Worth. In 1985, Mrs. Anthes retired after 45 years in nursing.
During World War II, Mrs. Anthes served in the Army Nurse Corps. Also, when St. Denis Grammar School, Manasquan, was built she was part of the establishment of the student health program.
Mrs. Anthes was predeceased by her husband, Russ, and daughter Mary Rose.
She is survived by her two sons, Steve, Malo, Wash., and Mike, Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, David Pitman, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Nancy Pitman Gould, Ocala, Fla.

Joyce K. Armstrong
Ewing Township resident Joyce K. Armstrong, a summer resident of Belmar, died Sunday, June 30 in her home.
She is survived by her husband, John Lee; her son, John Lee, and his dear friend Darlene Scully, son and daughter-in-law, Diane and C. Wesley III, and Pam and Jeffrey Hugh; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Mark Gregory; six grandchildren, C. Wesley IV, Kimberly, Alex, and Eric Armstrong, and Kyler and Kohnor Gregory; a sister, Joan Smith; niece, Cheri Berg; and nephew, Rick Smith.

Anthony M. Olman
West Belmar resident Anthony Michael Olman died Saturday, June 29 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 20 years old.
Mr. Olman was born in Neptune and was a lifelong resident of the shore area.
He attended Manasquan High School, Manasquan, and Wall High School, Wall Township and was a weight lifting enthusiast. Mr. Olman played Pop Warner football as well as baseball for Manasquan. He was also a member of the North Wall Little Leagues.
He was employed by Precision Mechanical HVAC, Inc, Ocean Township, as a heating and air conditioning technician.
He is survived by his parents, Deborah A. Raimer and Michael W., Sr., West Belmar; two brothers, Michael W., Jr. and Nicholas E., both of West Belmar; paternal grandparents, William E. Olman, Muskegon, Mich., and Barbara A. Baxter Olman, Asbury Park; 19 cousins and several aunts and uncles; and his fiance, Amanda Bailey, Manasquan.
