Helen Solancik

Manasquan resident Helen Solancik died Monday, Sept. 30 in Shorrock Gardens, Brick Township.

She was 86 years old.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Solancik was a longtime resident of Manasquan.

She was employed for many years as a seamstress with Stanley's Cleaners, Manasquan.

She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and John Suszkowski, and her sister, Josephine Krasniewski.

Surviving are her husband, John Solancik; one brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Helen Stanley; a sister-in-law, Stella Suszkowski; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. A blessing will be held at 10:30 a.m. today in the funeral home.

Contributions in Mrs. Solancik's memory may be made to Meridian Hospice of Brick, 415 Jack Martin Blvd., Brick Township, 08723.

John F. Lonergan

Belmar resident John F. Lonergan died Thursday, Sept. 26 in his home.

He was 82 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Lonergan lived there until moving to Belmar in 1987.

He was employed as a Jersey City fireman for 38 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a communicant of St. Rose Church, Belmar.

He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, serving as a technical sergeant during the European Campaign.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Eileen; one son and daughter-in-law, John F. Jr. and Artemis, Belmar; one daughter, Maryann Whitehill, Ocean Township; one sister, Dorothy Rawa, Lincroft; four grandchildren, Eileen McDougal, Jacqueline Mish, and John F. III and Justin Lonergan; and one great-grandson, Frankie.

Funeral arrangements were from the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar.

Catherine D. Brennan

Spring Lake Heights resident Catherine D. Brennan died Saturday, Sept. 28 in her home.

She was 85 years old.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Mrs. Brennan moved to Spring Lake Heights in 1956.

She was a homemaker and was previously employed as a store manager with Four Seasons Gift Shop, Eatontown.

She was a communicant of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

She was predeceased in 1991 by her loving husband, John Brennan; and by her sisters, Edna Boylan in 2000, and Eleanor Specht in 2001.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jack and Tricia, South Belmar, and James P., Spring Lake Heights; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine C. and Richard W. Pepper, Wall Township; one sister, Margaret Elko, Point Pleasant; and two grandchildren, John and Erin O'Neill.

Funeral arrangements were from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Casimer L. Gaska

North Arlington resident Casimer L. Gaska, whose son lives in Manasquan, died Tuesday, Sept. 24 in Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville.

He was 81 years old.

Born in Newark, Mr. Gaska lived in North Arlington since 1955.

He was employed for 15 years as a custodian with the North Arlington Department of Public Works, working in the library and borough hall, before retiring in 1993. Previously, he was employed for 37 years as a bottle driver with the Ballantine Brewery, Newark.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Queen of Peace Council No. 3428, North Arlington, the New Jersey Employee Labor Union No. 1, and the Teamsters Union Local No. 701, Springfield. He was a boxing champ of the Ballantine Brewery.

He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.

Surviving are one son, Cass L. Gaska, North Arlington and Manasquan, one sister, Lodzia "Ann" Bodziuch, Phillipsburg; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral arrangements were from the Parow Funeral Home Inc., North Arlington.

William Tully

Brick Township resident William "Jake" Tully, whose daughter lives in Spring Lake, died Monday, Sept. 23 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

Mr. Tully was a resident of Point Pleasant before moving to Brick.

He was a graduate of Sacred Heart grammar and high schools in Elizabeth and earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Seton Hall University.

He was a teacher, coach and principal in Union from 1948 to 1965 and a principal at Hammarsjold Middle School, East Brunswick, until he retired in 1980.

He was a member of the Glorious Years of St. Peter's Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

He was a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association and was president of the Union County Basketball Association. He was a life member of the Point Pleasant Elks, Lodge 1698. He had a sixteen-year association with the Spring Lake School of Dance.

During World War II, he served with the United States Coast Guard in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres for four and a half years.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ann Marie Quinn Tully; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jeffrey Osborn, Spring Lake, and Nancy and Glenn Henry, Point Pleasant; one sister, Marie Kennedy, Sarasota, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Sean and Timothy Henry, Point Pleasant.

Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. Interment was in the Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial cemetery, Arneytown.

Contributions in Mr. Tully's memory may be made to the Handicapped Children's Committee, Point Pleasant Elks Lodge No. 1698, Box 1069, Point Pleasant, 08742.

Rudolph J. Repka

Manasquan resident Rudolph J. Repka died Wednesday, Oct. 2 in the Medical Center of Ocean County -- Brick Hospital.

He was 87 years old.

Born and raised in Newark, Mr. Repka moved to Manasquan in 1947.

He was the owner and operator of R & R Sports Shop, Manasquan, retiring in 1994. Previously, he was employed as a steel worker in Philadelphia.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

Mr. Repka was a catcher on a semi-pro baseball team in Newark, and served as a Little League coach and youth basketball coach in Manasquan.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Martha Tomasko Repka in 1994, and by his sister, Elizabeth Rzepka.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debbie, Wall Township; one daughter and son-in-law, Rochelle and David Nickerson, Boca Raton, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Rachele, Russell, and Ryan Repka, and Robin, Nicole, and David Nickerson.

Funeral arrangements were from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Contributions in Mr. Repka's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 708 McLean Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, 08742.

Lynne Voorhees Free

Wall Township resident Lynne Voorhees Free died Saturday, Oct. 5 in Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Brick Township.

She was 45 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Free lived in Cream Ridge before moving to Wall seven years ago.

She was a graduate of Dickenson High School, Jersey City.

She was employed as a pre-admission testing administrator with Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

She was a communicant of the Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach.

Mrs. Free was a loving mother, and was devoted to and adored her children.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Free, in 1993, and by her father-in-law, Harry C. Dolan.

Surviving are two daughters, Jennifer Marie and Victoria Lynne Free, both at home; her parents, Robert and Rita Musto Voorhees, Freehold; two brothers, John Vitelli, Toms River, and Gerard Voorhees, Jersey City; two sisters, Judith Grocki, Long Branch, and Barbara Giordano, Toms River; and her mother-in-law, Mary Jane Dolan, Shark River Hills.

Funeral arrangements were from the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall.

Edna M. Stapleton

Spring Lake Heights resident Edna M. Stapleton died Friday, Oct. 4 in Imperial Care Center, Neptune.

She was 80 years old.

Born in Neptune, Ms. Stapleton was a lifelong resident of the Shore area.

She was the former owner/chef of the Sand & Sea Restaurant, Asbury Park, and also worked for many years with Dave's Seafood Restaurant, Belmar.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, Warren and Daniel, Palmer.

Surviving are three sisters, Janice Recchia, Belmar, Marjorie Bonner, Florida, and Elsie Elwood, Neptune.

Funeral arrangements were from the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar.

Olga M. Turner

Ridgewood resident Olga M. Pogachar Turner, whose son lives in Spring Lake, died Wednesday, Sept. 25.

She was 75 years old.

She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Pogachar.

Surviving are her husband, William S. Turner Jr.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bill and Laura, Spring Lake, and Jim, Mahwah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Todd Kloack, Parker, Colo., and Jane and Gregg Clark, Rock Tavern, N.Y.; one sister and brother-in-law, Vera and George Krumm; six grandchildren, Emilee, Brendah, Mackenzie, Amee, Daniel, and Carly; and her sister-in-law, Pat Pogachar.

Funeral arrangements were from the Feeney Funeral Home, Ridgewood.

Contributions in Mrs. Turner's memory may be made to the Valley Hospital Foundation, 223 N. Van Dien Ave, Ridgewood, attention - Pat Parillo.

Elizabeth H. Burnham

Point Pleasant resident Elizabeth Hall Burnham, formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died Monday, Oct. 7 in Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant.

She was 94 years old.

Born in East Orange, Mrs Burnham resided in Spring Lake Heights for 60 years before moving to Point Pleasant one year ago.

She was a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Albright Burnham.

Surviving are one son, Edward Burnham, and one grandson, Eric Burnham, both of Bowie, Md.

Private funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.
