Phyllis Glauch-Arnold, 53
Dated Saturday, October 28, 2006
Phyllis Glauch-Arnold, a former councilwoman in Pompton Lakes, died Wednesday at her Pompton Lakes home. She was 53.
Mrs. Glauch-Arnold, a pharmacist with Fingertip Formulary in Little Falls, also was active in the community as a member of the Republican Club.
"She was a dedicated person during her tenure in public office, always thinking of the interests of the town and its residents," said Police Chief Albert Ekkers. She was the liaison between the council and the Police Department when she was a councilwoman.
Mayor John Murrin remembers Glauch-Arnold -- elected to a three-year seat on the Borough Council in November 1989 -- as "a very bright young lady."
"She cared very much about the town of Pompton Lakes," he said. "She worked hard on all the committees and will be sorely missed."
Her commitment to the community was learned early from her late father, Edward S. Glauch, who was chairman of the Pompton Lakes Fire Prevention Bureau and a former assistant fire chief. She is survived by her mother, Lieselotte Glauch.
She unexpectedly resigned before her term expired, saying, "I am no longer available for all required meetings and sessions."
But a fellow councilman said Mrs. Glauch-Arnold had suffered for months from a heart problem that "impaired her ability to attend council functions."
Mrs. Glauch-Arnold was the wife of Jack Arnold and stepmother of Caitlin and Kerry Arnold.
"She was just a wonderful person, a good person, and very outgoing," said Rich Fleischer, a Pompton Lakes accountant and longtime friend. "She was well-regarded, very intelligent and contributed a great deal."
Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Morrison Funeral Home, 36 Bartholdi Ave., Butler. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, also at the funeral home.
The final disposition will be private.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Bloomingdale Animal Shelter Society, 23 Brandt Lane, Bloomingdale, NJ 07403.
