Clorinda “Gloria” Bunger 83 of Cliffwood died Saturday at the Bayshore Community Hospital.
Born in Cliffwood she remained a life long resident. Gloria was a food service supervisor for the Matawan School System. When Jace Co. took over the food service for the Matawan Schools Mrs. Bunger stayed on and became a District Manager food the Monmouth County area schools for 20 years. She also owned and operated the Pavilion Restaurant in Glenn Falls NY for 3 years. Gloria worked as counter clerk for Eli’s Bagels in Aberdeen for 10 years before retiring. Gloria was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s RC Church, Keyport an active member of the Cliffwood School PTA a member of the Ladies Aux. Cliffwood First Aid Squad and a member of the Social “C” Club, of Cliffwood. Gloria loved to travel. She travelled around Europe several times over the years, at times with her children and grandchildren. Her most recent overseas trip was to Ireland with her sister and frequent travel companion, Jennie. Gloria also enjoyed road trips, often visiting historic landmarks in New England and especially colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, where she would tour the plantations, including her favorite, the Monticello. One of her pastimes was sewing. Gloria would make Easter outfits for her children and nieces, and her Halloween costumes would always win prizes in the annual parades. But her favorite hobby was cooking. She brought the whole family together for the traditional Christmas Eve celebration, her favorite time of the year. Gloria was famous for her sauce, which the extended family enjoyed just about every Sunday. And that brings us to one of her other loves, telling stories. She had no shortage of anecdotes of the good old days in Cliffwood Beach, the family’s time in upstate New York, and of her family as it grew and expanded over the years.
