STRYKER, Philip J., Sr., 74, of Keyport, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, NJ.
Born in Hazlet, he resided in Keyport for 52 years. He served our country in the Army Infantry during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Keyport VFW #4247; and loved the Mets, Jets, fishing, crabbing and country music. He worked as a furnace operator with Anaconda Copper, Perth Amboy, then as a cable splicer with Atlantic Cordage, Edison.
Philip was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Clara (Connell) Stryker. Surviving is his wife, Virginia (Redfield) Stryker, whom he married in 1956; two sons, Eugene and Philip Stryker, Jr., both of Keyport; a daughter, Kathy Stryker-Anderson of Topanga, CA; one brother, Charles Stryker of Keyport and three sisters, Mary Stryker of Keyport, Claire Obichowicz of Marlboro and Theresa Poling of Keyport.
Relatives and friends are invited Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place. Keyport. A funeral service will be held, Friday, 8: 30AM at the funeral home, with a 9: 15AM Mass at St. Joseph ’s RC Church, Keyport. Interment to follow at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
SULLING (aka Sulley), Helen (nee Zelski), 100, of Laurence Harbor, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Madison Center, Old Bridge.
Born in Brooklyn, she resided in Harrison before moving to Laurence Harbor. He was a homemaker; a communicant of St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor and a member of the senior citizens at the church.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Henry Sulling in 1974. Surviving are two sons, Frank Sulley of Laurence Harbor and Henry Sulley, Jr. of Newburg, NY; one daughter, Helen Wegit of Hazlet ; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be Monday, 8AM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, with a 9AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor. Interment to follow at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home on Sunday, 2-4 & 7-9PM for visitation.
PAULA H. RUZA LUND of HAZLET – died Friday, June 06, 2008 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. She was 91.
Born in the Bronx, NY, she resided there for many years before moving to Hazlet 30 years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1980, she was a traffic enforcement official for the City of New York for 20 years. After she moved to New Jersey, she was a school crossing guard in Keyport for 10 years, retiring 20 years ago. She was a former member of the Hazlet Senior Citizens.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold in 1975.
Surviving are a daughter, Wilma Soscia and her husband Robert of Hazlet; three grandchildren, Jennifer VanDright and her husband John, Jill Soscia and Robert Soscia; and two great grandchildren, Maximilian and Ava VanDright.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8: 45 AM in the Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, followed by a 9: 45 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church. Interment will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY .
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday only 8: 30 – 9: 30 AM.
VREELAND, Augusta M., 90, of Cliffwood Beach ( Aberdeen ), passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at home.
Born in Aberdeen Twp, she was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a school bus aide for 14 years with the Matawan Board of Education retiring in 2003. She was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s Church, Keyport.
Augusta was predeceased by her husband, Charles Vreeland; a son, Charles Vreeland in 1998; her parents, Robert and Augusta (Kortenhaus) McGrath; and three brothers, Robert McGrath in 2006; Leo McGrath in 1986 and David McGrath in 2003. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Mary Vreeland of Fredericksburg, VA ; Joseph and Elizabeth Vreeland of Cliffwood Beach ; and Robert and Mary Vreeland of Morganville; a sister, Catherine McGrath of Cliffwood; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, 8: 30AM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, with a 9: 15AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Church. Interment to follow at St. Joseph ’s Cemetery, Keyport. Family and friends are invited Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at the funeral home for visitation.

FOLSCHER, Wallace J., 66, of Freehold, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008, at Centra State Medical Center, Freehold.
He was born in Keyport. He had worked three years as a foreman with the Ocean County Public Works. Wallace was predeceased by his parents, Fred Folscher and Katherine Wallace-Price. Surviving are his daughter, Linda Moffitt; and his son, Wallace John Folscher; his special friends, Ann Marie; two sisters, Betty Ann Koleiji and Mary Lous Galbriath; three brothers, Fred, Billy and Frank Folscher; and six grandchildren, Kyle, Ian and Alyssa Moffitt and Destiny, Cole and Chance Folscher.

Helen Sosinski 86 of Hazlet died Friday may 30, 2008 at her residence.
Born in the Bronx she lived in Hazlet for the past 40 years. Mrs. Sosinski was an Administrative Assistant for the Merrill Lynch Co. in New York City for 40 years. She was a member of Holy Family Church, Union Beach and a former member of their Golden Age Seniors Club. She was also a former member of the Hazlet Seniors and she was an avid bowler.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Casimir in 2000 and her son Stephen in 2001. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 8: 45am at the Day Funeral Home 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735 followed by a 9: 45am mass at Holy Family Church, Union Beach the Entombment will follow at the Holmdel Mausoleum. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Holy Family Church, Union Beach.
OSTERVICH, Joanne P., 60, of Union Beach, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.
Born in Brooklyn, she moved to Union Beach in 1958. For over 25 years, Joanne was employed with Chester, Ploussas, Lisowsky Partnership, Matawan, retiring in 2008. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church, Union Beach.
Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary (O’Leary) Sembler; a sister, Maryann Kennedy and brother, Gregory Sembler. Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Robert Ostervich of Union Beach; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Todd McQuillan of Union Beach; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Ostervich of Jersey City, and Robert and Katie Ostervich of Union Beach; grandchildren, Kyle and Logan McQuillan, and Emma Ostervich; step-grandson, Christian Coughlin-Fischer; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Rose Sembler of Union Beach; John Sembler of Atlantic Highlands; and Edward and Mary Sembler of Union Beach; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Robert Carola of Long Branch; Alice and Albert Ostervich of Union Beach; Barbara and Dennis Ely of Keyport; Margaret Doherty and Thomas Doherty of Somerset; Kathleen and Michael Lesbirel of Holmdel; Patricia and Christopher Coleman of Matawan; and Deborah Poczik of Sanford, FL; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

FUREY, John J., of Matawan, passed away Friday, May 30, 2008, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.
Born in Keyport, he was a lifelong resident of Matawan. He attended St. Joseph ’s School, Keyport and Matawan H.S., Matawan. He owned and operated Squire Sandblasting and Painting and the Matawan-Keyport Rollerdrome. Previously, he was employed by Lavoie Laboratories, Morganville; and Remsco Associates, Old Bridge. He retired in June 2007, after 10 years as a maintenance worker with St. Benedict’s School, Holmdel.
John was predeceased by his parents, James and Lillan (Farrell) Furey; a son, John J. Furey, Jr. in 1986; two brothers, James and William Furey; and a granddaughter, Nicole Jo Furey in 1995. Surviving are his wife, Gloria (Esposito) Furey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas P. and Lisa Furey of Old Bridge ; and Gary J. and Dawn Furey of Manhattan, NY ; and five grandchildren, John R., Branden, Trevor, Casey Rose, and Avery Jenna Furey.
Cremation was private. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 2, 2008, 7: 30PM at St. Benedict’s Church, Holmdel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, 34th and Civic Center Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19104.
ELLIOTT, Eloy, 47, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.
Born in Red Bank, he resided most of his life in Keyport. For 19 years, he was a dispatcher with the Keyport Police Department, then with the NJ Turnpike Authority.
Eloy was predeceased by his father, Eloy Martinez; his mother, Elizabeth (Andrews) Bishop; and three brothers, William, Charles and Kenneth Bishop. Surviving are two brothers, James Bishop of California and George Bishop of Perth Amboy ; a sister, Ester Sobieski of Whiting; ten nieces and nephews; 8 great nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Foxxy.
Visitation will be Monday, June 2, 2008, from 6-9PM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport. Cremation will be private.
