He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Passaic Valley Chapter of Unico and was a member of the board of directors of the North Jersey Blood Center and the Tithing Ministry of the Archdiocese of Newark, where he also served as a lector. He also had been a coach for the Bloomfield Little League and the Wayne American Legion, and was a member of the Packanack Lake Country Club and a member and coach of the Packanack Lake Athletic Association.
