Edward Nathaniel Syrbram, loving husband, father
ATLANTIC CITY -- Edward Nathaniel Syrbram, known to his loved ones and friends as "Eddie King," departed this life on Sunday (June 17, 2001) at Atlantic City Medical Center.
He was born May 11, 1942 to Gloria and Nathaniel Syrbram.
He is survived by his wife, Claudette Syrbram of Atlantic City; his mother, Gloria King of East Orange; four daughters, Soraya Kinsey Rhodes of California, Jacqueline Curtis of Atlantic City, Kim Harriatt of Plainfield, and Tina Wolfork of Somerset; two sons, Derrick Curtis of Newark and Damon Robinson of Plainfield; a stepson, Terron Curtis of Atlantic City; two sisters, Dr. Margo King of Georgia and Gloria Butler of East Orange; four grandchildren, Raychelle, Nieme, Kamika and Mustafa; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Fellowship Church, 521 Doughty Road, Pleasantville, preceded by the viewing at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Atlantic City Cemetery in Pleasantville.
Arrangements are under the direction of Greenidge Funeral Home, Atlantic City.

Eleanor Copt, homemaker
RARITAN -- Eleanor "Laura" Leoncavallo Copt, 81, died Monday (June 18, 2001) at home.
Born in Union City, she resided in Raritan for the past 61 years.
Laura was a homemaker and a member of the Evangel Chapel of Bridgewater.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Marcel; sons, Roger, and daughter-in-law, Judy of Raritan, and Raymond of Three Bridges; her daughter, Patricia, and son-in-law, Dennis Concannon of Neshanic Station; her grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, Ryan, Dennis and Sean; her sisters, Elsie De Santelo of Raritan and Irma Pehnke of Bridgewater; and a brother, Eugene Leoncavallo of Hackettstown.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Route 202 South, Branchburg.
Entombment will follow in St. Bernards Cemetery Mausoleum in Bridgewater.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Henry "Hank" Leibel Jr., retired butcher
SPRING HILL, Fla. -- Henry "Hank" Joseph Leibel Jr., 77, of Spring Hill, Fla., passed away Monday (June 18, 2001) at Brooksville Health Care Center.
He was born in Plainfield and came here 14 years ago from Piscataway.
He was a retired butcher with American Stores Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Battle of the Bulge, and was a member of the VFW 506 and life member of the DAV, both in New Jersey. Mr. Leibel was Catholic by faith.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Martha; a son, Joseph of Drescher, Pa.; a daughter, Marthajane Ziemba of Perth Amboy; a brother, Edward of Plainfield; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Brewer Memorial Funeral Homes and Crematory, Seven Hills Chapel, 280 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill, FL 34609.

Joseph C. Gettys, active in community
PLAINFIELD -- Joseph C. Gettys, 83, died Sunday (June 17, 2001) in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Rock Hill, S.C., he lived in Plainfield for more than 65 years.
He was formerly employed as head custodian at North Plainfield High School.
Previously he worked at Lyons Hospital and in his family's business, Asbury Hill Moving Co. in Plainfield.
Mr. Gettys was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Plainfield where he served as the church treasurer under the late Rev. A. Ross Brent and was the former chairman of the trustee board. In June 1998, he was honored as Trustee Emeritus.
His other memberships include Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 7474 in Plainfield; American Legion Johnson-Jeter Post 219 in Plainfield, where he served as post commander five times and served on all levels in the post for 30 years.
On the county level he served as sergeant-at-arms, chaired the children and youth program for two years, served as the vice commander and membership chairperson, member of Mohawk Lodge No. 307 Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World in Plainfield, where he held the following positions: treasurer for 35 years, Past Exalted Ruler, Past State President, Past Grand Exalted Ruler and he was a general in the Antler Guard of the Elks.
His first wife, Julia Marshall Gettys, died in 1985.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes G. Gettys of Plainfield; a stepdaughter, Mae V. Chavies of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Ernestine Cathcart of Winston Salem, N.C.; two godchildren, Michael Veghte of Plainfield and Michelle Veghte of Arlington, Va.; four sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Shiloh Baptist Church, 515 West Fourth St., Plainfield.
Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Mohawk Lodge No. 307, 1357 West Third St., Plainfield.
Ritualistic service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday by Mohawk Lodge No. 307 I.B.P.O.E. of W.
There will also be visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Shiloh Baptist Church, prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, 515 West Fourth St., Plainfield, NJ 07060.
Arrangements are by Brown's Funeral Home, Plainfield.

Malcolm Mills, lifelong city resident
PLAINFIELD -- Malcolm Allen Sharif "Milk" Mills, 21, who was born in Plainfield and was a lifelong resident, died Sunday, June 17, 2001.
Surviving are his parents, Albert Mills and Carol Nelson; two brothers, Albert L. Mills and Isaiah Gaines; one sister, Siebidi Mills; his stepmother Sonia Mills; his maternal grandmother, Martha Knight, and his great grandparents, Lucille and Rev. William Alston.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday at Rose of Sharon Community Church in Plainfield.
Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
Arrangements are by Judkins Funeral Home.

Robert L. Jones, services Friday
PLAINFIELD -- Robert L. Jones, 62, died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark.
He was born in Plainfield, and lived most of his life in Scotch Plains before moving back to Plainfield three years ago.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Warren Temple; former member of Church of the Living God; and member of The Social Club adult program in Springfield.
He was predeceased by his mother, Alice Jones, in 1998, and his father, Charles Jones, in 1977.
Surviving are his sister, Deresa Woods of Plainfield; a brother, Charlie Jones Jr. of Roselle; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Jones of Roselle and Gladys Walker of Detroit, Mich.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Warren Temple Church in Scotch Plains.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Warren Temple Church.
Arrangements are by Judkins Colonial Home, Plainfield.

Ruther "Rufus" Reeder, U.S. Army veteran
NEWARK -- Ruther "Rufus" Reeder, 55, died on June 8, 2001 at University Medical Center in Newark.
He was born in Newberry, S.C., lived in Plainfield and resided in Newark the past three years.
He was a United States Army veteran and a cook for various restaurants.
He was predeceased by his father, Henry M. Reeder Sr. in 1993; and his brothers, Henry M. Reeder Jr. in 1973 and Elijah Reeder in 1995.
Surviving are his son, Marcus Reeder of Cincinnati, Ohio; his daughter, Dion Johnson of Westfield; his mother, Algalee Reeder; his sister, Regina Reeder of Plainfield; and five brothers, Hubert, Herman and Oliver Reeder, all of Plainfield, John Reeder of Macon, Ga., and Donald Reeder of Baltimore, Md.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.
