PATRICIA "PAT" A. MATTHEWS, 76, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, died Wednesday, May 23, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Mrs. Matthews was born in Jersey City and had lived in Glendale, N.Y., Pennsylvania, Illinois, Manalapan and Port Richey, Fla., before moving to Freehold Township in 2006. She was a sales associate for Steinbach's, Manalapan.
She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2004; and a brother, Richard Harrington. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Matthews of North Brunswick, and Christian Matthews of Wall; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary and Oliver Boucher of Farmingdale, and Margaret Tomaini of Freehold; two sisters, Barbara Timmes of Manalapan, and Kathleen Flanagan of Belleville; four grandchildren, Justin, Jillian, Stephanie and Kelly; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Angelina.
A gathering of friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. The inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Gabriel's Mausoleum, Marlboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Honors & Memorial Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, and would be appreciated.

WILLIAM P. MATTHEWS, 96, of SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS, died Sunday, Aug. 5, at Meridian Nursing & Rehab. at Ocean Grove. Mr. Matthews was born in Colts Neck (formerly Atlantic Township) and had lived in Manasquan before moving to Spring Lake Heights 62 years ago. He was a farmer and owned and operated Matthews Farm Market, Route 71, Spring Lake Heights, retiring 16 years ago.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ann Matthews; a son and daughter-in-law, William P. Jr. and Donna Matthews of Lake Como; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen M. and James Rogers of Vernon; a brother, Charles Matthews of Freehold Township; and five grandchildren, Chelsea, Lindsey, and Kortney Rogers, and Samantha and Tyler Matthews.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at noon Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brian Eble officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.

JAMES McCAULEY, 21, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of HOWELL, died Thursday, April 26, at Orlando Regional Hospital at Lucerne, Orlando. Mr. McCauley was born in Long Branch and had lived in Howell until settling in Orlando in 2003. He was a former member of the Cub Scouts in Freehold Township and a former member of the Challenger baseball, basketball, and soccer leagues in Freehold. He served as an altar boy at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Spring Lake. Mr. McCauley participated as a bowler in the Special Olympics in New Jersey and Florida. He was a member of the Central Florida Miracle League Baseball and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, both of Florida.
He was predeceased by his father, Bruce R. McCauley, in 1997. Surviving are his mother, Susan A. McCauley of Kissimmee, Fla., and a sister, Kymberly A. McCauley of Kissimmee, Fla.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. JOSEPH M. McDONOUGH, 55, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, died Monday, Nov. 27, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Mr. McDonough was born, raised and had lived in Jersey City before moving to Freehold Township in 1995. He was a traffic coordinator for the Middletown Township Police Department for three years. Prior to that, he worked for 26 years for the Jersey City Police Department, retiring in 1999 as an inspector. He was once the youngest police inspector in the history of the Jersey City Police Department. He graduated St. Paul's Grammar School and Hudson Catholic High School, Jersey City. He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Farmingdale. He was a security policeman in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the F.O.P., Emerald Society and P.S.O.A. of Jersey City. Through his life, Joseph was a self-taught individual who taught himself to play the guitar, accordion, oil-paint, speed-read, ballroom dance and gourmet cook. He was a reserved, accomplished man who earned everything he achieved because of his determination and competitive drive to succeed. Although he accomplished many milestones, the one he was the most proud of was his wife and children.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph P. and Helen Healy McDonough. Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Jeannie Fix McDonough; a son, Joseph P. McDonough, at home; a daughter, Kaitlyn McDonough, at home; a brother, Brian P. McDonough of Parlin; and two sisters, Eileen Cahill of Old Bridge, and Maureen Moore of Jersey City.
Visiting hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Family and friends may gather at 8: 30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal followed by a 9: 30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 31 Asbury Road, Farmingdale. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family will be establishing a trust for the education of Joseph and Kaitlyn. RICHARD E. McLOUGHLIN, 51, of HOWELL, died Friday, May 11, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Mr. McLoughlin was born in Manhattan and had lived in Rockaway Beach before moving to Howell 15 years ago. Mr. McLoughlin was currently a claims representative for the Social Security Administration, Jersey City, for the past 27 years. He was a communicant and usher at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Farmingdale. He graduated from St. Francis Prep., and he received his Master's in Public Administration at Baruch College, both in Manhattan, N.Y.
He was predeceased by his brother, Mark, in 1986. Surviving are his wife, Patricia McCauley McLoughlin of Howell; one son, David M. McLoughlin at home; parents, James F. and Mary Taylor McLoughlin of Rockaway Beach, N.Y., and St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, James F. McLoughlin, Jr., of Belle Harbor, N.Y.; and one sister, Susan T. Bartlein of Holbrook, N.Y.
Visiting will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. HOMER A. McOWEN, 79, of HOWELL, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Manchester Manor Nursing Home, Manchester. Mr. McOwen was born in Newark and lived in the Perrineville section of Millstone Township before moving to Howell in 1953. He was a member of the Perrineville Presbyterian Church. He worked for the Monmouth County Bridge Department as a bridge repairman for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anna B., in 1984. Surviving are a son, Robert McOwen of Red Bank; and a sister, Lorraine Palmer of Maryland.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. MARY JUNE MEGILL, 67, of EATONTOWN, died Friday, May 18, at Imperial Healthcare, Neptune. Mrs. Megill was born in Asbury Park and had lived in the West Farms section of Howell, and in Bradley Beach, Asbury Park and Neptune before settling in Eatontown in 2000. She worked for the Avon Public Works Department during the 1980s. Prior to that, she worked for Criterion Candy on the boardwalk in Asbury Park.
Mrs. Megill was predeceased by her father, James Gunther. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Arthur Megill of Eatontown; a son, James C. Megill of Eatontown; two daughters, Barbara June Megill and Elizabeth Morris Megill, both of Eatontown; her mother, Elizabeth Gunther of Howell; a brother, James Gunther of Howell; and three grandchildren, Robert, Noelle and Kaylie.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8: 30 p.m. Monday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold. ZULFIKAR BADRUDIN MERALI, 60, of HOWELL, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Kensington Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation, Toms River. Mr. Merali was born in Jinja, Uganda, came to the United States in 1967, and had lived in Sussex before moving to Howell in 1985. He received his bachelor's and master's of science from Columbia University. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu academic fraternities at Columbia. Mr. Merali was a member of the Ismaili Community of Edison. He was a software engineer for Lucent Technologies, Holmdel, for over 15 years and had received their prestigious "DMTS" Award. Most recently, Mr. Merali was a software engineer at NMS Communications, Red Bank, until becoming ill.
He was predeceased by his mother, Shirin Bandalli Merali. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Joanne Merali of Howell; a son, Imran Merali of Howell; two daughters, Zahra Merali of Howell and Aliya Merali of Howell; his father, Badrudin Jamal Merali of Warwick, England; and two sisters, Zinat Bennett and Yasmin Merali, both of Warwick, England.
Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. Interment will follow in Frankford Plains Cemetery, Frankford Township. THOMAS E. MARIANO, 75, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, died Wednesday, June 13, at home. Mr. Mariano was born in Elizabeth and had lived in Westfield before moving to Freehold Township in 1964. He was a communicant and an active volunteer at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold Township. He held various positions with the Freehold Township Little League. Mr. Mariano was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Proctor & Gamble, Staten Island, N.Y., for 39 years, retiring as a warehouse dispatcher in 1990.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Lucy Laraia Mariano; four sons, Gunnar Mariano, Timmy Mariano, and Thomas Mariano Jr., all of Freehold Township, and Kevin Mariano of Jackson; and two grandsons, Thomas and Kevin.

ROSE MARRANDINO, 86, of HOWELL, died Thursday, Sept. 20, at home. Ms. Marrandino was born in Brooklyn and had lived there and East Windsor before moving to The Villages, Howell, in 1974. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Freehold. She was a member of the Howell Senior Citizen and Friendship Clubs. Ms. Marrandino also was a member of AARP. She was a bookkeeper for more than 30 years working for A.G. Nelson and Mead Paper, both in New York City.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Camille Bongiorno, in 1997, Nicoletta "Clara" Marrandino, in 1999, and Marie Ruggiero, in 2002. Surviving are three nieces, Maryanne Corica, Andrea McIntyre and Julia DiMuro; a nephew, Frank Bongiorno; and her devoted caregiver, Christiana Akpanya.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. CARLTON F. MATTHEWS, 64, of FARMINGDALE, died Sunday, July 9, at home. Mr. Matthews was born in Neptune and was a lifelong resident of Farmingdale. Mr. Matthews was a lifelong member of the Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, Farmingdale, and also served as a trustee and elder. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during in Vietnam. He was a co-founder and active volunteer at Joshua House, Farmingdale. Mr. Matthews was a plumber/steamfitter with Local 9, retiring 12 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Matthews; a son and daughter-in-law, Carlton "Ed" and Elena Matthews of Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelly M. and Bill McAteer of Brick; his father, Lester Matthews of Lynch, Md.; two brothers, Lester "Bob" Matthews of Farmingdale, and Clifford Matthews of Wharton, Md.; a sister, Janice Lee Dey of Betterton, Md.; and two grandchildren, Melanie McAteer and Benjamin Matthews.
