WILLIAM SODEN SR., AGE 81, SPOTSWOOD
William C. Soden Sr., 81, died Thursday at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick.
He was born in Jamesburg and had lived in Spotswood for the past 60 years. Prior to retiring in 1978, he was a supply foreman for E.R. Squibb & Sons in North Brunswick, where he worked for over 25 years. He was a member of the Squibb 25-Year Club and the Squibb Retirees. A World War II veteran, Mr. Soden served as a corporal in a tank battalion in Italy and France and received the Purple Heart for shrapnel-related injuries sustained when a tank exploded. He was a life member, longtime "Officer of the Day" and member of the Color Guard and Honor Guard of Spotswood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4589. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Spotswood. He was also a member of the Spotswood, Jamesburg and Monroe Township senior-citizens clubs.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha Chitren Soden, who died in 1999, and two sisters, Elizabeth Schooley and Stella Lykes.
Surviving are a son, William C. Soden Jr. of Florham Park; two daughters, Bertha "Dolly" Olsen of Whitehall, Pa., and Jean Temperini of Monroe Township; a brother, Howard Soden of Englishtown; two sisters, Isabelle Perkins of Pomona and Louise Holm of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at The Brunswick Memorial Home, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by a 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church in Spotswood. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Monroe Township. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today and both 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Spotswood VFW Post 4589 will conduct services at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spotswood First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 231, Spotswood, NJ 08884, or to the World War II Memorial Fund, c/o American Battle Monuments Commission, P.O. Box 96766, Washington, D.C. 20090-6766.

XIOMARA DEAN, AGE 29, PERTH AMBOY
Xiomara "Mira Rosa" Dean, 29, of Perth Amboy died April 26 in Philadelphia.
She was born Aug. 26, 1972 in Jersey City and lived in Perth Amboy before moving to Philadelphia over two years ago.
She was predeceased by a cousin, Melissa Padilla, who died in 1994. She is survived by her husband, Leon Ray Dean; her mother, Aurora Gomez of Perth Amboy; her father, Luis Cruz of Florida; five children, Leon Ray Dean Jr., Xiomara Dean and Shaniqua Dean, all of Carteret, and Asia Vargas of Jersey City and Nicole Melissa DeCarlo of Sayreville; three brothers, Frank Rosa, Robert Moore of Perth Amboy and Orlando Cruz of Florida, and her maternal grandmother, Maximina Perez of Hoboken.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Flynn & Son Funeral Home, 424 East Ave., Perth Amboy. Burial will be at Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy. ANTHONY C. MARTELLI, 85, of LONG BRANCH
ANTHONY C. MARTELLI, 85, of LONG BRANCH, died Thursday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was a manager for Tom McCann shoe stores in Long Branch, Red Bank and Asbury Park before retiring in 1975. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Asbury Park. He was a member of Asbury Park Elks 128, and was also known as the "Mayor of Cookman Avenue." Born in Asbury Park, he lived there before moving to Long Branch four years ago.
He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Martelli, in 1999; and a sister, Sue Buon-nano, in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Mary Rubino Martelli of Long Branch; two brothers, James Martelli of Neptune, and Jules Martelli of Asbury Park; a sister, Mildred Marron of Toms River; several nieces and neph-ews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Damiano Funeral Home, Third and Franklin ave-nues, Long Branch. A funeral will be held 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Inter-ment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Neptune. ARLENE ANSELL, 61, of West End, LONG BRANCH
ARLENE ANSELL, 61, of West End, LONG BRANCH, died yesterday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was an assistant teacher at the Jewish Community Center, Ocean Township, for the past five years. She was an avid tennis player. Born in Washington, D.C., she lived at the Jersey Shore for the past 37 years, moving to West End 14 years ago.
Surviving are three sons, Scott of New York City, Brian and his wife, Roseanne of Tinton Falls, and Kevin and his wife, Victoria, of Ocean Township; a granddaughter, Sofia Ansell and her best friend, Steven Kessler of West End.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Sunday at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 2130 Route 35, Ocean Township, with interment to follow in Temple Beth El Cemetery, Neptune. Donations are requested to the JCC of Monmouth County.

BERNICE MARTHA GRAVER, 79, of Salem, formerly of BRIELLE, died Wednesday at Christiana Care, Delaware. She was a former mortgage counselor with the Monmouth County Action Program. She was a member of Haven United Methodist Church, Quinton. She was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Manasquan and St. John Episcopal Church, Salem. Born in Bridgeton, she lived in Brielle before moving to Salem 18 years ago.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Marva Jones. Surviving are her companion, Stanley Bailey; four sons, John Johnson of Clementon, Elmer Johnson of Vineland, Wallace Doman Jr. of Carneys Point and Phillip Doman of Neptune; three daughters, Lorraine Uzzle of North Wales, Pa., Claudia Williams of Neptune and Wendy Arnold of Brielle; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Haven United Methodist Church, Bridgeton-Salem Pike, Quinton. A funeral service will be held at noon, with Pastor Thomas Austin officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Salem. Arrangements are by the Edwards and Son Funeral Home, Salem.

CHARLES K. HALL, 66, of Valrico, Fla., formerly of KEANSBURG, died yesterday. He was a retired driver with Linden Motor Freight. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Teamsters Local Union 478, 816 and 807.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary-Catherine Irons; and his father, Charles. Surviving are his wife, Carol; three daughters, Denise Lambert of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., Karen Reed of Okinawa, Japan, and Cristyn Mondelli of Hazlet; a son, Charles T. Hall of Manahawkin, Stafford; his mother, Florence, and a brother, Herbert, both of Brooklyn; and four grandchildren, Sheridon Lambert, Jordan Reed, Anthony Coppola and Jared Hall.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at Stowers Brandon Chapel, 401 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, Fla. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa, FL 33609 in his memory.

DORIS RYAN, 79, of KEANSBURG, died yesterday at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was a secretary for McGraw Hill, New York City, for 12 years, retiring in 1965. She was a member of St. Ann's Church, Keansburg. Born in East Orange, she lived in Highlands before moving to Keansburg 25 years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in February; her parents, Raymond and Mary Dempsey; and a brother, Raymond Dempsey Jr., in 1965. Surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Paul Alfano of Penfield, N.Y.
Burial will be private. Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals, Keansburg, is in charge of arrangements.

FLORENCE C. BERKERY, 82, of Covered Bridge MANALAPAN, died Wednesday at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. Born in Queens, she lived in Covered Bridge for the past 28 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter F. Berkery Sr., in 1994; a son, Peter F. Berkery Jr., in 1987; and her parents, James and Florence McManus.
Graveside services will be held 9:30 a.m. today at Forest Green Cemetery, Old Bridge. Crabiel Home for Funerals, Milltown, is in charge of arrangements.

JODI IRENE EBERHARDT, 39, of HOWELL
JODI IRENE EBERHARDT, 39, of HOWELL, died Thursday. She was a graduate of Howell High School; and Rutgers University, where she earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in plant pathology. She was a principal laboratory technician in the Rutgers University Plant Science Department, New Brunswick. Born in Lakewood, she lived in Howell most of her life.
Surviving are her husband, Douglas Eberhardt; two sons, John and Travis; her father, Patrick Corrigan of Longville, La.; her mother, Irene Ternyik Corrigan of Howell; her paternal grandmother, Margaret Corrigan of Lakewood; and two sisters, Dawn Bausher of New Egypt, Plumsted, and Tina Corrigan.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.

MARGARET W. TRUEX, 83, of FREEHOLD, died Thursday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She was a secretary for the U.S. Government at Fort Monmouth, where she worked for 15 years, before retiring in 1973. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Middletown, Womens Club of Middletown, and Order of The Eastern Star, Atlantic Highlands. She volunteered for many years at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Atlantic Highlands, she moved in Middletown in 1954 and then to Freehold.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold T. Truex, longtime athletic director and coach for Middletown High School, in 1978; her father, Charles Wright; her mother, Pauline Egeland; and a son, Ronald Truex. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and June Rose Truex of Free-hold; grandchildren, Kristen Truex, Keith Truex, Michelle Truex Podesta, and Kimberly Truex Irelan; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, the Rev. MARY C. MALONEY, 85, of SOUTH BELMAR, died yesterday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She was a legal secretary and office manager for Wagner, Quillinan & Tenant, New York City, for 25 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of SCAMP, Belmar Women's Club, and AARP. She was a communicant of St. Catharine's-St. Margaret's Parish, Spring Lake. She enjoyed traveling and traveled the world. Born in Jersey City, she lived there before moving to South Belmar many years ago.
Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Genevieve of Point Pleasant.
Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Meehan Funeral Home, 555 Warren Ave., Spring Lake Heights. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Margaret's Church, Spring Lake. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
