William H. Abbott
FRANKLIN — William Henry Abbott, 77, died after a long illness at home on Friday, May 2, 2008. Born to William and Ruth Abbott in Nutley, he grew up in Montville and lived in Oak Ridge for six years before moving to Franklin in 1966.
Mr. Abbott served with the U.S. Navy in the Sea Bees and then joined the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He then worked as a foreman/welder and was with RAIA Industries in Hamburg for 15 years before retiring in 1995. Mr. Abbott was an honorary member of the Franklin Fire Department and had worked on the department's antique fire truck as well as the Colesville Fire Department's antique fire truck. He was an avid motorcycle rider and train enthusiast.
Mr. Abbott is the beloved husband of 53 years of Lillian J. Van Duyne Abbott; devoted father of Daniel W. Abbott of Franklin and Diane Lovelace of Matamoras, Pa.; cherished by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and dear brother of Joyce Combs of Lubbock, Texas.
Funeral arrangements are by F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main St., Franklin. Cremation is private.

HARDYSTON — Francis Charles Babcock, 66, died after a short illness at home on Thursday, May 1, 2008. Born in Unionville, N.Y., he was a lifetime resident of Hardyston Township.
Mr. Babcock served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and then worked as a factory worker at Ames Rubber in Hamburg for many years. He was an avid conservationist who loved hunting and fishing. He was also a classic car enthusiast.
Mr. Babcock was the devoted father of Frank C. Babcock of Jersey City, Charles M. Babcock of Newton and Morris D. Babcock of Carbondale, Pa.; stepfather of Michael Babb of Eldred, N.Y. and James Babb of Vernon; dear brother of Elizabeth Clegg of Vernon; brother-in-law of Bessie Szoka of Franklin; cousin of Ralph Van Blarcom of Vernon. He was cherished by his three grandchildren and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, at noon, at Mr. Babcock's residence. Funeral arrangements are by F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin.

ANDOVER — Bernice Bradshaw, 86, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at home.
Born in Green Township, Mrs. Bradshaw was a lifelong Sussex County resident. She was a mail carrier for the United States Post Office in Andover before her retirement.
The daughter of the late Marshall Sidney and Lavinia Mackerly Hull, Mrs. Bradshaw was predeceased by her husband, George, in 1990, and a sister, Mildred Saunders, in 2002.
She is survived by one sister, Nancy Toepke; two nephews, Jeff Saunders and David Gramberg; and four nieces, Janet Colwell, Loretta Sickler, Barbara Inman, and Patty Shylkafski.
Arrangements are private and under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.

SPARTA — Felecia A. Diamant, of Sparta, died Wednesday April 30, 2008, following liver cancer.
Ms. Diamant was a longtime lab technician and histologist for Newton Memorial Hospital. She recently worked as a science lab assistant at Sussex County Community College. Ms. Diamant was an amateur painter and stained glass artist.
A longtime member of the Lake Mohawk Country Club, she was predeceased by her six brothers.
She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Diamant of Sparta and Arielle Kolk of Cleveland, Ohio. She also is survived by her sister Erciel Weller of Newton, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are private and under the direction of Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St., Newton.

SPRING HILL, FLA. — Dorothy V. Elg, 90, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Hernando Pasco Hospice in Brooksville, Fla.
Mrs. Elg was married to the late David Elg. As the owner and operator of Elg-Sandberg Company in Sparta until 1980, Mr. Elg built residential homes.
Mrs. Elg graduated from Temple University with a bachelor's degree and was a substitute teacher in Sparta.
She is survived by two sons, Darren Elg and Kevin Elg; and two grandchildren, Geoffrey Nosach and Jenna Nosach.
A memorial service will be scheduled in the summer.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.— William "Mac" F. McSherry, 51, passed away on Tuesday April 29, 2008, at Shands Jacksonville Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Morristown, Mr. McSherry was the son of Mildred Harris McSherry of Morristown and William McSherry Sr. of Plant City, Fla.
He was a maintenance worker for Main Street Trailer Park, Jacksonville, and previously was employed by Metro Trucking in New Jersey.
Mr. McSherry was a member of St. Margaret's R.C. Church in Morristown, where he served as an altar boy. He was also a member of the Morristown Explorer's Post.
He served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Morristown Fire Department Board of Fire Wardens and was an avid NASCAR follower and fisherman. He was a father, son, and brother.
Mr. McSherry is survived by his son, William F. McSherry III of Morristown; his sisters, Lisa Ayres of Franklin and Cory Morong and her husband, Don, of Morris Township; his nieces, Candice and Tara Ayres; his life companion, Kay Bender of Jacksonville; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.
A Mass will take place in remembrance of Mr. McSherry at St. Margaret's Church, 6 Sussex Ave., Morristown, on May 17, at 8 a.m., for family and friends. Florida arrangements are by A.B. Coleman Mortuary, Jacksonville, Fla.
