Edward R. Toker, Sr.
ANDOVER TWP. — Edward R. Toker Sr., 84, died Tuesday Oct. 16, 2007 in Newton following a brief illness. Born in Mt. Union, Pa., he grew up in Jersey City and had also lived many years in New Milford. In 1960, he moved to Andover Twp., where he resided until his death.
Son of the late Stephen and Anna Kostraba Toker, Mr. Toker was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II. A devout parishioner of the Good Shepherd R.C. Church in Andover, he had worked as a logistics analyst for the Singer Kearfott Corp. in Wayne for many years prior to his retirement. An avid bowler, he was also a devoted N.Y. Yankees fan as well as a volunteer for the Manna House in Newton for the past five years.
Mr. Toker's survivors include his wife of fifty three years, Virginia R. Frank Toker; his son, Edward R. Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Andover Township.; his daughters, Joanne O'Connor and her husband, Bob, of Kunkletown, Pa. and Susan Heintz and her husband, John, of Ogdensburg. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Thomas of Elmwood Park ; his four grandchildren, Timothy O'Connor, Amanda Toker, and Amanda and Megan Heintz; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday Oct. 22 at 10:00 a.m. in the Good Shepherd R.C. Church in Andover. Interment will follow in the Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday Oct. 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home at 156 Main Street in Newton.

BANGOR, PA. — Edith Spangenberg, 84, formerly of the Sussex County area, died, Monday Oct. 15, 2007 at her home.
She is survived by 11 children, 32 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.

Dr. Arlene B. Jorgenson
FREDON — Having lived in Sussex County for more than 55 years, Dr. Arlene B. Jorgenson, 91, affectionately referred to as Dr. J. by all who knew her, died peacefully at her home in Fredon on Monday Oct. 15, 2007.
Dr. Jorgenson moved from her native home in Grassy Creek, N. C. to York, Pa. and later to Newton. She had also resided in the Culver Lake section of Frankford for many years before moving back to Newton in 1978 and then to Fredon seven years ago.
Arlene was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Suzanne Rose in 1955; her first husband, Archie Rose in 1964 as well as her second husband, Harvey W. Jorgenson Sr. in 1979; her three brothers, Blaine Blackburn, Veterinary Dr. Earl G. Blackburn, and Rev. Gwen R. Blackburn; and her sister, Lessie Cope.
She is survived by her daughters, Ashleigh EmMae Jorgenson-Yurkiw of Branchville and Joan Rose-Shaw; her step-daughters, Norma Cappola of Fredon and Claire Sutton Hunt of Milford, Pa.; her step-son, Harvey W. Jorgenson Jr. of Sparta; her brother, Bryce A. Blackburn of Jacksonville, Fla.; her sisters, Myrtle D. Wilgis McDaniels of St. Augustine, Fla. and Angelyn Eller, of Purlear, N.C.; as well as her three grandsons, Lt. Reed Jorgenson, William Javan Yurkiw and Mason Julian Yurkin.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church at 111 Ryerson Ave. in Newton. Interment will follow in the Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home at 156 Main St. Route 206 in Newton.

GREELEY, PA.— David Owens, Sr., 63, died Tuesday Oct. 16, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y. The son of the late Edward S. and Frances Bedford Owens, he was born on March 29, 1944 in Wantage.
Mr. Owens was a retired mechanic. He loved to fish and do woodworking. Mr Owens was an avid Nascar fan and the president of the Hitching Post Community Association.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Gornto; and two brothers, Edward Jr. and Jack.
He is survived by his wife, Linda J.Wright Owens; his five daughters, Catherine Herburger of Newton, Sherri Sanders of Monticello, N.Y., Tammy Storms of White Mills, Pa., Betty Ann Stringer of Chickasaw, Ala., and Lori Wright of Greeley, Pa.; two sons, David Owens, Jr. of Titusville, Fla. and Randolph Scott of Greeley, Pa.; three sisters, Hazel Quackenbush of Warwick, N.Y., Joy Martin of Shohola, Pa. and Robin Outer of Vernon. Mr Owens is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 18 nieces and nephews.

YORK, PA. — Carol J. Anthony, 56, formerly of Sussex, died suddenly on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Mark R. Anthony, formerly of Sussex.
Mrs. Anthony was born on Feb. 27, 1951 in Sussex. She was the daughter of the late Arlie and Albert Brink. She was a graduate of Sussex County Vocational Technical School. She retired in January of 2007 from The Sussex County Homestead, after 25 years of dedicated service as a Certified Senior Nurse's Aid.
In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by two children, Fred Lauster III and his wife, Jill, of Wilson, N.C. and Arlie Jager and her husband, Jeff, of York, Pa.; two brothers, William Leek of Sussex and Glendon Brink of Newton; one sister, Barbara Miller, of Mecca Lake; and five grandchildren.
Services were held on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Sussex.

Linda M. DiCiccio, 59, of Andover Township, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at St. Clares Hospital in Denville following a long illness.
Born in East Orange, Mrs. DiCiccio grew up in West New York then moved to Sussex County in 1973. She was a teacher for many years; as well as a homemaker.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Mary B. Strada French, Mrs. DiCiccio is survived by her husband, Michael DiCiccio; one son, Dean DiCiccio and his wife, Tina, of Andover; and one grand-dog, Frankie.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran's Cemetery in Wrightstown followed by interment. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.

VALLEY FALLS, N.Y. — John Murdock Hill, 91, a long-time resident of State Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Hospital in Bennington following a long illness.
Born in Troy, N.Y. on Jan. 8, 1916, Mr. Hill was the son of John and Annie Murdock Hill and the husband for 66 years of Flora E. Sproat Hill, who predeceased him in 2005.
Mr. Hill was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School, Class of 1935.
As a young man he was employed locally for several years as a salesman of highway equipment and aggregate materials by the Midland Asphalt Corporation of Buffalo, N.Y. Shortly after marrying in August of 1938 he was promoted to the position of production supervisor managing Midland's business activities in the Troy area.
On May 8, 1945, he was inducted into the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II. Following basic training, he earned the rank of Private First Class and was awarded the expert marksman with rifle ribbon. He was honorably discharged on November of 1945 at the conclusion of the war.
After the service, he continued to work for the Midland Corporation for several years. In 1957, he founded the Hoosick Valley Asphalt Company in Valley Falls. As president and owner for over 21 years, he partnered with his late wife and worked until the company was purchased by the Peckham Corporation. He retired in June of 1978.
Following retirement, from 1978 until 1994, Mr. Hill and his wife spent their winters in Cape Coral, Fla. and returned each spring to catch up with his life in Valley Falls. There he was active in the arts and was the president of the Cape Coral Art League.
He was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church, a member and past master of the Victor Masonic Lodge No. 680 in Schaghticoke, N.Y., a member of the Oriental Temple Shrine of Troy, a member and past commander of both the American Legion Post No. 731 in Schaghticoke and the Rensselaer County American Legion Post. He was actively involved in United States Veteran's Affairs and was the former superintendent of Veteran's Burials in Rennselaer County. As a young man, he was a member of the Brocket's Lumberjack's Semi Pro baseball team in Johnsonville, N.Y. He also helped to start and was a former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop No. 49 in Valley Falls.
In his quiet time, he enjoyed art and music. He also enjoyed visiting with friends at the weekly meeting of the Rensselaer County Indoor Bird Watcher's Society.
Mr. Hill is survived by his five children and their spouses, John "Jack" C. Hill Sr. and his wife, Susan, of Valley Falls, Carolyn Ann Collette and her husband, Dennis, of Newton, Andrew M. Hill Sr. and his wife, Alice, of Schaghticoke, Elizabeth T. Ricupero and her husband, Frank, of Conway, S.C. and Ina Mari Larson and her husband, James, of Spokane, Wash.; a brother-in-law, James Kessler of California; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and four sisters, Mary Bartholomew, Rheba Banks-Collins, Ina McCue-White and Elizabeth Kessler.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church at 16 State Street, on Route 117, in Valley Falls with the Rev. Eileen Deming officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot located at Elmwood Cemetery in Schagticoke. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2007.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to either the Valley Falls Untied Methodist Church, P.O. Box 236, Valley Falls, NY 12185 or to the Hoosick Falls Health Center, P.O. Box 100 Danforth Street, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090, in memory of Mr. Hill.
Funeral service details are under the direction of the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Ramertown, N.Y.
