Lucy Scala
MADISON — Lucy Scala, 89 died Saturday at home after a long illness.
Mrs. Scala was born in Newark on March 3, 1916, to Nicola and Maria Saporito De Venezia. The second of 10 children, she resided in Florham Park and then for the past 70 years in Madison.
Mrs. Scala attended school at the Little Red School in Florham Park and worked for 18 years in sales at the former B. Altman & Co. in Short Hills, retiring 24 years ago. She was a parishioner at St. Vincent Martyr R. C. Church in Madison and served as an election board worker for the Morris County Board of Elections for 30 years.
Her husband, Henry Sr., died March 28, 1988. She was also predeceased by her brothers Orazio and Anthony De Venezia and her sisters Colette Siano and Michelina Iuso.
Mrs. Scala is survived by three sons, John and his wife, Lola, of Hopatcong, N. Lawrence and his wife, Nancy, of Gillette and Henry Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Hackettstown; two brothers, Edward De Venezia, of Livingston and Richard De Venezia, of Mountain Lakes; three sisters, Irma Conforti, of Bloomfield, Helen Domney, of Rogersville, Mo., and Marie G. De Venezia, of Toms River; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by the Scala Memorial Home, 124 High St., Hackettstown.

Norman Bolin
SPARTA — Norman Howard Bolin, 82, of Sparta, died Sunday.
Born on Feb. 6, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Peekskill, N.Y., before moving to Sparta 33 years ago. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946, serving in the China theater. Mr. Bolin worked as a logistics manager for Singer-Kearfott Inc., in Little Falls, retiring in 1988 after 25 years.
Mr. Bolin was a senior bowler at Sparta Lanes, a life member of the PFC Jeffrey S. Patterson, Detachment No. 747, of the Marine Corps League and a member of the Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta.
He was past president and held various executive board positions in the Northern New Jersey Square Dance Association.
Mr. Bolin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Audrey; two sons, Kenneth, of Southbury, Conn., and Donald, of Shrewsbury, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta.

Philip Low
BYRAM — Philip M. Low, 49, of Byram, died Sunday at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center.
Born in Paterson, he lived in Byram Township all his life. He was a self-employed mason contractor.
Mr. Low is survived by his parents, Gerald and Joan (Barney), of Byram; one brother, Edward, of Flanders; one sister, Nancy Haberzettl, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.; two nieces and one nephew.
Arrangements are by Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing.

Antoinette "Toni" Spradling
MONTAGUE — Antoinette "Toni" Spradling, 85, of Montague, died Sunday at Milford Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center in Milford, Pa.
A dancer for 75 years, Mrs. Spradling was born July 24, 1920, to Francisco and Rose Pagnotti Rosso, in Brooklyn, N.Y. The founder and owner of Toni Spradling Dance Studio of Montague, she began her career as a tap dancer in New York City in 1927. Upon graduating from high school in Brooklyn, she became a Radio City Music Hall Rockette. Later she formed her own traveling dance company and became a stateside member of the USO in the metro New York area. Later she relocated to Dover and operated several dance studios. She and her husband bought the Club 45 in Lake Hiawatha, where Bobby Darin, the Duprees and other notables performed. In 1965 they moved to Montague. For almost the next 40 years, Mrs. Spradling owned and operated the Toni Spradling Dance Studio. She retired in 2002 at age 83.
For more than 30 years, she held an annual dance recital to benefit the drama club at either Port Jervis or Delaware Valley High schools, as well as having her adult and children's dance troops perform for many tri-state area charities.
Her husband of 59 years, Homer C. "Slim," died Jan. 11, 2001. She was also predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Rose Marie and John T. Allen Sr.
Mrs. Spradling is survived by two sons, Guy and his wife, Carol, of Milford, Pa., and Mark and his wife, Teresa, of Pond Eddy, N.Y.; one stepson, David and his wife, Monica, of Hilton Head, S.C.; one brother, Frank Russo and his wife, Shirley, of Toronto, Canada; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
Funeral arrangements are by the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis.

Joyce M. Hastick
BLOOMINGDALE — Joyce M. DeLuca Hastick, 55, died Wednesday.
Born in Passaic, she lived in Passaic, Nutley and Highland Lakes before moving to Bloomingdale six years ago.
Ms. Hastick was employed as a space technologist for Acosta Sales and Marketing in Hackensack for the past three years.
She is survived by one son, Alexander III, of Rossville, Ga.; one daughter, Stacey Sondervan, of Hamburg; one brother, Nicholas DeLuca Jr., of Toms River; one sister, Marty Mullen, of Bayville; her mother, Mary Burek DeLuca, of Bayville and five grandchildren.
Funeral services are under the direction of the Shook Funeral Home, 631 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.

Theresa Paternostro
LYNDHURST — Theresa Paternostro, 91, died Wednesday in Hackettstown.
Born in Italy, she lived in Lyndhurst for 64 years.
Mrs. Paternostro was employed by Bregstein Lingerie in Lyndhurst for 30 years before retiring in 1973. She was also a volunteer at Clara Maass Hospital in Belleville for 20 years, serving 8,250 hours.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus No. 2396, where she served as past president, past vice president and secretary; a member of the Friendship Club in Lyndhurst and a member of the Lyndhurst AARP, where she served as the community service chairperson.
Mrs. Paternostro was a member of the Sacred Heart Church where she served in the following capacities: Rosary Society as past president and vice president, the Sacred Heart Seniors, Parish Council on the Human Concerns Committee and chairperson of the Cenacle and Marion society.
In 1993, she was named the Lyndhurst Volunteer of the Year.
Mrs. Paternostro was honorary chairperson of the Pope John XXIII Regional High School auction.
She was predeceased by her husband, V. Santo "Sam," in 1973; two brothers, Samuel and Fred Paone and one sister, Mary Ann Vescio.
Mrs. Paternostro is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Kohler and her husband, Edward Sr.; one son, Victor and his wife, Patricia; two sisters, Josephine Romeo and Rose Dignazio; one brother, James Paone; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Nazare Memorial Home Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst.

Linwood H. Campbell
THURMONT, Md. — Linwood H. Campbell, 92, died Tuesday at Northampton Manor in Frederick, Md.
Born in Dividing Creek, the next to the youngest of five children, Mr. Campbell lived in the southern New Jersey area until 1931, when he left to attend Rider College.
Upon his graduation from Rider, he took a job with F.W. Woolworth on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. He was transferred several times (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Fifth Avenue, Bridgeton, N.J., Long Branch, N.J., Passaic, N.J., Paterson, N.J., Newark, N.J.) and eventually came to Newton, N.J.
In 1949, Mr. Campbell was offered the opportunity to join Condit Motors as sales manager and he filled this position until becoming president and general manager in 1978. He retired from Condit Ford after 52 years of service.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the Sussex County Auto Dealer Association, having served as president for two terms, and was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Auto Dealers Association for 10 years.
He also offered his volunteer services to the community. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for more than 45 years and served as president three times. A past president and 12-year member of the High Point High School Board of Education, Mr. Campbell was also a member of the Newton Board of Education.
Mr. Campbell was a member and past vice-president of Newton Babe Ruth League, a member and past president of the High Point Booster Club, a member and past president of the North Jersey Baseball Association and a past president and a long time member of the Sussex County Sports Hall of Fame.
Other volunteer service included the Salvation Army, where he was treasurer and chairman for more than 50 years; a member of the American Cancer Society for more than 40 years, having served as a trustee and past president; a member and past president, twice, of the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce and he also delivered meals on wheels twice a month with his wife, Libby.
He had been named "Senior of the Year" by the Don Bosco Council, Knights of Columbus and the Sussex County Honors Committee.
The son of the late Herbert and Lucy Joslin Campbell, he was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" M. Campbell, on Feb. 17, 1992; one brother, Stewart Campbell and two sisters, Hannah Hanners and Mary Emma Campbell.
Mr. Campbell is survived by two sons, Jack W. Campbell of Thurmont, Md. and David L. Campbell of Lake Hopatcong, N.J.; one daughter, Lynn P. Limon of Elon, N.C.; one brother, John Albert Campbell of Lakeland, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.

Helen Cosgrove
MORRIS PLAINS — Helen Frances Vail Cosgrove, 92, died Thursday at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hampton, she had lived in Morris Plains for the past 49 years.
Mrs. Cosgrove was a graduate of the Drake College of Business and worked as a bookkeeper for Acme Markets and M. Epstein in Morristown.
She was a member of the Morristown Historical Society, the Sussex County Historical Society and the Minisink Valley Historical Society.
Mrs. Cosgrove was a member of St. Virgil's Parish in Morris Plains and a founder and president of the Morris Plains Seniors.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward V. Cosgrove Jr.
Mrs. Cosgrove is survived by two sons, Edward V. and his wife, Ann, of Needham, Mass., and Michael and his wife, Rena, of Rockaway and one daughter, Jeane Ellen Allaire of Amherst, N.Y.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison.
