Achille "Iggy" Geneva well-known musician

Achille Anthony Geneva known as "Iggy,' 70, of Ship Bottom died Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin.

Iggy was born in Philadelphia, and was formerly of Springfield, Delaware County, Pa., before moving to Ship Bottom in 1975.

He worked for the Borough of Ship Bottom for 23 years as a machine operator until his retirement in 1999. Prior to that he had worked as a operating engineer for Union Paving in Philadelphia for 24 years. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Brant Beach.

Iggy was a member of the Durning String Band and had been a Mummer from 1952. He was inducted into the Mummers Hall of Fame in 1977. Iggy and his band, "The Mummer's Four" were well known on Long Beach Island and the mainland.

Iggy was predeceased by his son, David A., in 1997. Surviving is his wife of 49 years Ellen M. (Walters); two sons, Mark A. of Manahawkin, and Thomas H. of Ship Bottom; one brother, Hank and a daughter-in-law, Gloria, South Philadelphia.

A memorial service took place Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Brant Beach, under the direction of the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, Ship Bottom.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made ot St. Francis Parish Center, 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ 08008 in Mr. Geneva's name.

Henning L. Wiechmann

Henning L. Wiechmann, 67, of Little Egg Harbor, died Nov. 30 at home.

Born in Hanover Germany, he resided in Clementon prior to moving here 30 years ago.

Mr. Wiechmann was a security guard for Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary H. (Bennett); his daughter, Diane C. Wiechmann and his granddaughter, Nicole Wiechmann.

Private arrangements were entrusted to Maxwell Funeral Home, Little Egg Harbor.

Mary H. Graham

Mary H. Graham (nee Hoey), 82, of Surf City died Thursday, Nov. 28, at home.

Born in New York City and formerly of Clifton and Paramus, and Arlington, Texas she had been a summer and weekend resident of Surf City, moving there year-round in 1992.

Mrs. Graham was a past member of the United Reformed Church of Clifton, the Congregational Church of Paramus, and the First Congregational Church of Fort Worth, Texas. She was a member of the Kynett United Methodist Church of Beach Haven and the Ocean Acres Ladies Golf Association, Manahawkin. Mrs. Graham enjoyed golfing, gardening, and being at the beach.

Mrs. Graham was predeceased by her husband of 53 years. Howard S. Graham, on Oct. 24, 1996.

Surviving are two sons, Douglas H. of Montville, and John D. of Kennebunk, Maine. Also surviving are five grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 12th Street and Boulevard, Ship Bottom. A Memorial Service will take place Jan. 4, at Montiville Reformed Church, Montville. Those wishing to express their sympathy are asked to consider a contribution to the Kynett United Methodist Church, Centre Street and Beach Avenue, Beach Haven, NJ 08008, in Mrs. Graham's name.

Marilyn K. Snyder

Marilyn K. Snyder, 61, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Brant Beach, died Saturday morning in the Inpatient Unit of Hospice Community Care at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, May 26, 1941, a daughter of Fred E. and Nan Dougherty Krackenfels.

She was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, class of 1959 and a 1963 graduate of Wilkes College, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and later a masters in English education. Mrs. Snyder began her real estate career more than 20 years ago, working at Coldwell Banker in Wilkes-Barre. She later founded and owned the Marilyn K. Snyder Real Estate Company in Wilkes-Barre. She earned the GRI Designation, along with the Lifetime Par Excellence Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors. She was a member of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Board of Realtors, the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

Prior to working in the real estate industry she was a former National Products organic research chemist for CIBA Pharmaceuticals (Presently Novartis) and at the Ohio State University.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she served on the Parish Finance Committee. Mrs. Snyder served on the Presidents Advisory Council at Wilkes University. She also had served on the Board of Directors for the Kings College Century Club, Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center and the Bishop Hoban High School Parents club.

She was a member of and past president of the Auxiliary to the Luzerne County Dental Society. She was also a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and the Little Flower Manor Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her son, Leonard J. Snyder Jr., in 2001.

Surviving are her parents; her husband of 38 years, Dr. Leonard J. Snyder; two sons, Dr. Christopher Snyder, Sugarloaf, Pa., and Darren Snyder, Wilkes-Barre; three daughters, Attorney Mary Snyder Coolican, Moosic, Pa., Attorney Nancy Snyder, Wilkes-Barre, and Attorney Kathleen Snyder, Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Krackenfels of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Karen Somma, Bear Creek, Pa., and Nana Merck, Cape Cod, Mass.. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services took place Tuesday morning at the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church. Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bear Creek. Friends called Monday.

Memorial Contributions, if desired, may be made to PanCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Research Organization) 2221 Rosecrans Avenue, El Segundo, CA 90245 or to the Snyder Family Scholarship Fund at Kings College, 133 North River Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711.

Margaret E. Holman

Margaret E. Mathis Holman, 93, of Parkertown, Little Egg Harbor Township, passed away Nov. 29, at Great Bay Rehabilitation Center, Little Egg Harbor.

Born in Ocean City she was a lifetime area resident.

Mrs. Holman was a member of the Regular Republican Club of Little Egg Harbor, Charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary Parkertown Volunteer Fire Company, a past member of Tuckerton Chapter 54 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Parkertown for 57 years and was a former Sunday school teacher and treasurer. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Daughter of the late S. Orlando and Emily Gale Mathis she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Chester Holman, former Little Egg Harbor Township Mayor.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Betty H. and Jack Shinn of Parkertown; two grandchildren, Margaret "Peggy" Shinn of Tuckerton and Suzanne Clarke of Parkertown, also, her great-grandchildren, Cara, Jaiden, Stephen and Kaitlyn.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. today at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Rd., Little Egg Harbor, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Evelyn "Marge" Bitter

Evelyn "Marge" Bitter, (Struble), 92, of Forked River, died Friday, Nov. 29, at Community Medical Center, Toms River.

Mrs. Bitter, was born in Newark and was formerly of Verona. moving to Forked River in 1967.

Mrs. Bitter was a chief operator for the New Jersey Bell of Newark for 30 years retiring in 1967. She was a member of the Forked River Presbyterian Church, Ladies Auxiliary of the Forked River Tuna Club, the Breakfast Club, a former member of the Lady Guard, AARP, and the Republican Club all of Forked River. She was also a member of the Manahawkin branch of the Telephone Pioneers and the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Ocean County Polish American Social Club.

Mrs. Bitter was predeceased by her husband Edward C. on June 17, 1985.

Surviving is one cousin, Clifford Quinn, West Orange and many dear friends.

A funeral service will take place at 2:30 p.m. today at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 Route 9 North, Forked River. Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820 Browns Mills, NJ 08015-0820.

John R. Stockton

John Richard Stockton, 85, of Manahawkin, died Nov. 27, at home.

Born in Jarrell, Texas, he resided in Rumson and Ship Bottom before moving to Manahawkin.

He owned and operated an executive search firm, Management Catalysts, for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He held a Ph.D. in microbiology and served as research director for several national food and drug companies in earlier years.

He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, and taught there while earning his graduate degrees.

He was a member of the King of Kings Community Church.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Norma Boyd Stockton; three sons, James Stockton of Shoreview, Minn., Douglas Stockton of Lander, Wyoming, John Richard Stockton of Hockettstown, Robert Dent Stockton of Manahawkin; two daughters, Alexandra Stockton Fox of Newfield and Joyce Stockton Eldredge of Newfield; 22 grandchildren and five nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at King of Kings Community Church on East Bay Avenue, Manahawkin.

Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, Manahawkin, is in charge of arrangements.

John J. Milano

John J. Milano "Bones," 46, of Ship Bottom died Saturday, Nov. 30, at home.

Born in Newark and formerly of Jersey City, he moved to Ship Bottom in 1970.

Mr. Milano was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose-Beach Haven Lodge 1575 of Manahawkin. From 1988 to present he had been employed at the Wheelhouse Restaurant of Ship Bottom as head chef.

Surviving are his brother, Anthony J. of Barnegat; two sisters, Joanna M. Oliver of Manahawkin and Jeanne E. Milano of Toms River. Also surviving are two nephews, his close friend Karen Turner and her children, Amy, Leisha, Tracy, and the twins.

There will be a gathering of family and friends in January at the Loyal Order of Moose-Beach Haven Lodge, Route 72 West, Manahawkin. The day and time will be announced at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 12th Street and Blvd., Ship Bottom.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for contribution's to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9956 in Mr. Milano's name.

Virginia Leiby Taggart

Virginia Leiby Taggart, 82, of Rosemont, Pa., and 25 Seconds St. in Beach Haven, died in Lankenau Hospital Nov. 22.

The daughter of Scott and Maude Leiby, she was born and lived in Harrisburg, Pa., Virginia, or "Ginny," as she was known, first came to Beach Haven in the summer of 1938 while a student at Weelock College in Boston to run a beach kindergarten with her close friend Henny Lou Darlington Corin.

At that time she lived behind Miss Lilly's boardwalk gift shop. During that summer she met Joseph "Skip" Taggart who attended Franklin and Marshall College. He was a member of the Beach Haven Lifeguards.

Following their marriage in July of 1941, they resided at the Taggart Cottage at 2nd and Atlantic Ave. During the war, Skip served as a gunnery officer in the U.S. Navy in the European Theater. Ginny spent every summer in Beach Haven with her husband, daughter and son. In later years she spent the greater part of the winter there.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Nancy Taggart Davis of Moorestown and Beach Haven, who is a professor at Richard Stockton College, Pomona, and her son, Joseph P. Taggart the III of Rathdrum Idaho, who, like his father, was a member of the Beach Haven Life Guards. She also is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Leiby Gilbert of Camp Hill, Pa., and a niece she raised, Jane Taggart Whittaker of Brigantine.

She also is survived by three devoted grandchildren, Conyers Davis II, who like his grandfather and uncle was a member of the Beach Haven Lifeguards and is currently a student in St. Andrews University in Scotland; Taggart Read Davis who is attending the University of Montana, and her granddaughter, Virginia Ingrid Taggart, who attends college in Portland, Ore.

Ginny was active in a number of civic activities. She was in the Junior League of PA, The Merion Cricket Club, the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club and Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club, where she served with her husband who was commodore in 1970. Ginny served as a tour guide in the Long Beach Island Historical Society, was a regular attendee of the Surflight Theater and recently joined the Mordecai Land Trust as a charter member.

Service and burial will take place at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, in Beach Haven at 11 a.m. Friday.

Stuard Funeral Directors, Inc., 104 Cricket Avenue, Ardmore, Pa., is in charge of arrangements.
