CAROLYN LEE "SUSIE" PINTO NEWELL, 49, of the Leonardo section of MIDDLETOWN, died Saturday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was vice president of Allied Fire and Safety Equipment, Neptune. She was a member of Middletown Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2171, Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Brevent Park Fire Company, Leonardo. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Red Bank. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren and was a loving mother and great friend to many. She loved music, her home and all who came to visit. Born in Long Branch, she was a lifelong Middletown resident.
She was predeceased by her son, Daniel Andrew Newell; her father, Francesco Pinto; and a brother-in-law, Robert S. Newell. Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Ronald S. Newell Sr.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald Scott Jr. and Jessica Newell, Leonardo, and James T. Newell, Middletown; her mother, Betty Jane Pinto, Jensen Beach, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Diane Pinto, Leonardo; a sister, Donna Marie Mc Kenna, Shallotte, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Daniel, Damian and Sarah Newell.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.

JOSEPH F. KELBAS, 73, of HOWELL
JOSEPH F. KELBAS, 73, of HOWELL, died Tuesday at Brick Hospital. He was a police officer for the Newark Police Department for 30 years, retiring in 1986. After his retirement, he was a security guard at Monmouth Park racetrack for 10 years. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Lakewood. Born in Newark, he lived there before moving to Howell 30 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Caso Kelbas; a son, Kenneth of Point Pleasant; and a sister, Stella Bleckicki of Lakehurst.
There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be offered 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Lakewood. Interment will be private. Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN W. CLAYTON, 78, of LAKEHURST
JOHN W. CLAYTON, 78, of LAKEHURST, died Thursday at Hackensack Medical Center. He was superintendent of public works in Keyport, retiring in 1984 after 29 years of service. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 9th Air Force from 1942 to 1945, and received the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Medal. He belonged to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Port Monmouth, Middletown. As a youth, he enjoyed baseball and continued to enjoy the game with his grandchildren. He was a fan of the Yankees. Born in Matawan, he lived in Keyport before moving to Lakehurst four years ago.
He was a predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Clayton; and nine brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Clayton; a son, James Clayton of Fairfield, Iowa; three daughters, Patricia Besek of Cape Coral, Fla., Susan Zurich of Linden, and Joanne Hahn of Point Pleasant; a sister, Elizabeth Coleman of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandsons, Anthony and Adam Zurich, and Trevor Hahn; and two granddaughters, Rebecka Hahn and Kimberly Besek.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bedle Funeral Home, 61 Broad St., Keyport. Funeral services will be held noon Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.

SCOTT CHINERY, 40, of TOMS RIVER
SCOTT CHINERY, 40, of TOMS RIVER, died Tuesday at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Toms River, he was a lifelong resident.
He is survived by his parents and siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Methodist Church, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Oceans of Love.

Patricia Galligan Converse, school teacher
ARLINGTON, VA. -- Patricia Galligan Converse, 42, died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) in an automobile accident in Pennsylvania. Ms. Converse was born in Newark on July 18, 1958, and she was the daughter of Thomas and Kathleen Galligan.
She was a former resident of Washington, D.C. before moving to Arlington 20 years ago. She was a graduate of Bayley-Ellard High School in Madison, attended Georgetown University, graduated from Boston College and received a master's degree in education from Marymount University in Arlington. She was a school teacher at Stoddard Elementary School in Washington, D.C. Patricia was a communicant and CCD teacher at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Community in Alexandria, Va.
Her father, Thomas Galligan, died in 1998. She is survived by her mother, Kathleen Galligan of Whitehouse Station; and two sons, Brendan and Liam Converse, both at home.
The funeral will be 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse followed by a 9:30 a.m. funeral liturgy in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station. Friends may visit from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Bernards Mausoleum in Bridgewater.

MATTHEW "BUCK" ANTON, 22, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP
MATTHEW "BUCK" ANTON, 22, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, died Friday in Ocean City, Maryland. He was produce manager at the Park Avenue Foodtown in Freehold, and he worked at the Raintree Foodtown, Freehold Township, for the last seven years. He graduated from Freehold Township High School in 1996, and continued his education at Brookdale Community College. He was an avid golfer and weight lifter. He was a member of the Raintree Golf Course, Freehold Township. Born in Toms River, he lived in Jackson before moving to Freehold Township 18 years ago.
Surviving are his father and stepmother, James and Eileen Anton of Manalapan; his mother and stepfather, Joeann and Michael Singer of Whiting, Manchester; a brother and sister-in-law, James Jr. and JoAn of Eatontown; three stepbrothers, Craig Damoci of Manalapan, Karl Damoci of Bayville, Berkeley, and Gary Damoci of Brick; a nephew, J.T. Anton of Eatontown; and a niece, Ashley Anton, also of Eatontown.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, 958 Adelphia Road (Route 524), Adelphia. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Galene J. Boyett officiating. Interment will follow in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent, Manalapan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, NJ 07702.

JUDITH M. SKIDMORE KIND, 58, of BRADLEY BEACH
JUDITH M. SKIDMORE KIND, 58, of BRADLEY BEACH, died Friday at home. She was employed by Creative Pension Services, Long Branch. She attended Red Bank Catholic High School and Caldwell College. Her love and devotion to her children and grandchildren and her lifelong love of the beach were her greatest joys. She will be missed by everyone whose lives were touched by her warmth, her generous spirit and her smile. She was born in the Bronx.
She was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Skidmore Shanahan; and her father, Eugene Skidmore. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jenifer and Robert Mihalkanin of Hinsdale, Ill.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Heidi Kind of Morrisville, Pa., Michael Kind and Amy Scutt of Makanda, Ill., and James and Judith Kind of Morrisville, Pa.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, E. Joseph and Martyna Skidmore of Long Branch, and Michael Skidmore of New York City; nine grandchildren, Jake, Emily, Abigail, Sierra, Riley, Christina, Jennifer, Steven and Dustin; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Church of the Assumption, Evergreen Road, New Egypt, Plumsted. Following the memorial service, all are invited to attend a celebration of her life at the home of her son Jim in Morrisville, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations toward a memorial in her name in Bradley Beach. Donations can be made to The Judi Kind Memorial Fund and sent in care of Jim Kind, 524 Berwyn Road, Morrisville, PA 19067. Dunn Givnish Funeral Home, Langhorne, Pa., is in charge of arrangements.

DEBORAH VAUGHN, AGE 49, NO. BRUNSWICK
Deborah "Debbie" Anne (Brenner) Vaughn, 49, of North Brunswick died Tuesday at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in New Brunswick, Debbie was a lifelong North Brunswick resident. She was a graduate of New Brunswick High School. She was a member of the North Brunswick Democratic Club, and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of East Brunswick Elks Lodge 2370. Debbie was an active member of Georges Road Baptist Church, serving as financial secretary, church council member, and Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
She was the daughter of the late Rudolph Brenner and Eileen Reilly Scardino. Surviving are her husband, Billy, and her brother, Raymond N. Brenner III of Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Georges Road Baptist Church, 440 Church Lane, North Brunswick, with Pastor James A. Brix officiating. Cremation will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 2 p.m. until service time. Arrangements are by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

SAMUEL BIANCA, 62, PISCATAWAY
Samuel A. Bianca, 62, died Saturday in Bridgeton.
He was born in New Brunswick and had lived there prior to moving to Piscataway in 1961. He was a graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1967. He was presently employed by Atlantic Power Inc. of Castleton, N.Y. as a Territory Manager. He was a current member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and an educator at the Middlesex County Vocational School. He had enjoyed piloting private planes since 1957. He was an avid fisherman and motorcyclist. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima in Piscataway.
He is survived by his wife, Ann (Donato) Bianca of Piscataway; his daughters, and son-in-law, Pamela and Wade Sjogren of Bridgeton, Mary and Richard Tangolics of Ocean Grove, and Julia and Mario Gargiulo of Belmar; two sisters, Diane Stankovits of Milltown and Patricia Cotter of Hillsborough; five grandchildren, Jeffery, Christopher, Eric, Josephine, and Marc, and two great-aunts, Mary Danis, and Dora Mosca, both of Sarasota, Fl.
Services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday from the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church in Piscataway. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

BASIL J. PLASTERAS, 56, of WEST LONG BRANCH, died Thursday at home. obitpix He was proprietor of Squire's Pub Restaurant, West Long Branch, for 28 years before retiring five years ago. He was a commissioner of the New Jersey Racing Commission; a chair-elect of the Racing Commissioners International; a former board member of the Ronald McDonald House, Long Branch; a chairman of the Monmouth Health Care Foundation at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch; a board member of the Rainbow Foundation; an honorary fire chief of West Long Branch Fire Company 1; and an honorary member of West Long Branch Policemen's Benevolent Association Local 141. Born in Long Branch, he lived in West Long Branch for the past 30 years.
He was predeceased by a brother, George Plasteras; a sister, Virginia Matouk; and his parents, James G. and Marguerite Gatta Plasteras. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Ann Scharber Plasteras; two sons, James G. of West Long Branch, and George M. of Delaware; two daughters, Vanessa C. Plasteras and Caroline A. Plasteras, both of West Long Branch; a brother, James G. Plasteras of Eatontown; two sisters, Alexandra Diglio of West Long Branch, and Margo Hooker of Middletown; his mother-in-law, Dolores Scharber of Phoenix; and several nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Damiano Funeral Home, Third and Franklin avenues, Long Branch. A funeral will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 10:30 a.m. St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, West End, Long Branch. Interment will be at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. Memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth Health Care Foundation, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch, NJ 07740, or the Challenged Youth's Sports, P.O. Box U, Cliffwood, NJ 07721.

JONATHAN VALENTINE, 19, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP
JONATHAN VALENTINE, 19, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, died Friday from injuries sustained in a car accident last week in Howell. obitpix He graduated in the top 5 percent of his class from St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, in 2001, where he was a member of the soccer, wrestling and track teams. Upon graduating, he went to Lafayette College, where he played rugby and just completed his freshman year. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. He lived his life to the fullest and gave his all to everything he did. Born in St. Louis Park, Minn., he had lived in Freehold since 1984.
Surviving are his parents, Michael and Ana Valentine; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Yerana; a sister, Lisa; paternal grandfather, Arthur; family members Matt and Yeralis Knice; many friends; and many family members in Venezuala.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E. Main St., Freehold. A funeral Liturgy will be offered 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Freehold Township, followed by burial at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, New Building Campaign, Georgia Road, Freehold, NJ 07728.

Jared Scott McLaren, 20, of Old Bridge died Sunday at Bayonne Medical Center in Bayonne.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Old Bridge in 1989. He was a student at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken.
He was the beloved son of Charles and Linda (Alt) McLaren of Old Bridge, and the beloved brother of Kelly McLaren, who resides at home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Freeman Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. Burial will be at Marlboro Cemetery in Marlboro. Visitation will be 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
